interviews with journalists themselves, Lewis examines how raced Black
journalists and their journalism organizations process their circumstances

“Blackness” in news production and its subversion by Black journalists
negotiating issues of objectivity, authority, voice, and appearance along

True objectivity requires courage to tell all sides of a story and go beyond superficial approaches, even if it angers those in power.

1) Agenda setting refers to how the media influences audiences by choosing which stories to cover and how prominently to cover them.
2) Priming occurs when media coverage suggests issues for audiences to use in evaluating leaders and government.

Do Liberal Stereotypes of the National News Media Hold Up to Scrutiny
1) The analysis found that news media is dominated by hard news rather than soft news, contradicting the hypothesis. Only one news source, Good Morning America, had more soft than hard news.
2) Newspapers had the highest ratio of hard to soft news, supporting the second hypothesis. Newspapers' ratio was 4.86:1 hard to soft news.
3) The ratio for liberal news sources was higher than conservative sources, supporting part of the third hypothesis. However, conservative news was found to be dominated by hard rather than soft news, contradicting another part of the hypothesis.
