14. Types of Energy
There are 2 main types of energy:
★ POTENTIAL ENERGY
★ KINETIC ENERGY
15. Potential Energy
● It is when the energy is
stored up in the object.
● This energy is ready to use
● The object does not move.
16. Kinetic Energy
It is when an object moves.
Every moving object has Kinetic energy.
The energy that a body gets because of its
motion is called kinetic energy.
17. Energy
★ Energy is everything that produces changes in
things.
★ It can be stored up
★ It is invisible.
★ It cannot be created, or cannot be destroyed, it only
transforms from one form to another
18. Forms of Energy
In these two types, there are many different forms of energy:
Mechanical Electrical Light
Sound Thermal-heat Solar
Nuclear Gravitational Chemical ----
19. Energy - Task 3
Individual task:
Use the 4 worksheets of energy and
build a interactive learning activity
24. ENERGY IS ...
★ everything that produces changes in things.
★ invisible.
★ It does not have a volume or a mass, so energy
is NOT matter.
★ It does not create, it does not destroy, it only
transforms
26. Transformation of Energy
A transformation of energy is when one form of
energy changes into another form of energy.
27. Transformation of Energy
It can be transformed from one FORM into another,
examples:
○ The sun’s HEAT transforms into MECHANICAL energy,
when it heats up the air and it begins to move, creating
wind.
○ The sun’s LIGHT transforms into CHEMICAL energy, when
plants make their food through photosynthesis.
28. Transformation of Energy
It can be transformed from one FORM into another:
○ Potential energy is transformed into kinetic energy
○ Kinetic energy is transformed into thermal energy
○ Chemical energy is transformed into heat energy
○ Chemical energy is transformed into Mechanical energy
29. HOW DO WE OBTAIN ENERGY?
Energy sources are the natural resources from
which we obtain the energy to use:
★ RENEWABLE SOURCES, practically
INEXHAUSTING (never finishes)
★ Non-RENEWABLE SOURCES,
EXHAUSTING, WILL FINISH
31. SOURCES OF Energy
RENEWABLE SOURCES
Solar Wind wood
Agricultural waste water
❖ These sources have not been traditionally used as Energy
source
❖ However, these sources will always be available in nature and
are renewable,
33. SOURCES OF Energy
Non-RENEWABLE SOURCES
fossil fuels radioactive substances
❖ They need long time to form, millions of years
❖ We are exhausting these sources because we consume them
quicker than they form
❖ They do not have time to renew themselves.
34. LET’S see the Sources of Energy:
★ The biggest source of energy is our Sun
★ Some other sources are:
○ coal
○ wood Primary sources of energy are from the
○ wind NATURE, it is in his natural state.
○ water
○ Food Secondary sources of energy have a
○ Electricity transformation from the primary sources
35. USES OF ENERGY SOURCES
Electricity
Transportation
Cooking
Sun
Coal
Water
Oil
Gas
