Addressing these challenges requires a multidisciplinary approach involving governments, industries, academia, and civil society. Striking a balance between
reaping the benefits of digital technologies and mitigating their potential drawbacks is at the heart of the digital dilemma.
Privacy and Security Concerns
With the increasing digitization of personal
data, concerns about privacy and security
have become critical. Companies collect
massive amounts of user data, raising
questions about how this information is used
and protected.
The digital dilemma lies in balancing
the convenience of technology with
safeguarding our privacy and ensuring
cybersecurity.
Ethical Implications
The digital world introduces ethical
challenges that demand careful
consideration. Issues such as online
harassment, misuse of personal data, and
the spread of fake news require ethical
guidelines and responsible practices. Striking
the right balance between innovation and
ethical conduct is crucial in addressing this
aspect of the digital dilemma.

19. Technological Challenges,
4 priorities in cybersecurity 👻
If you had to do 3 things:
(1) create a security culture where employees
know why they should and shouldn't do certain
things, know where to report when things go
wrong, and dare to report.
(2) turn on multi factor authentication, so a
username and password (what you know) plus
something else (token you have, fingerprint
who you are).
(3) get a managed detection and response
service that monitors your network and system
and intervenes when necessary.

20. Societal Impact Information Overload
Information overload
Impact of social media on
communication, relationships, and
behavior. Spread of misinformation
and echo chambers. Address the
digital divide and the challenges of
equitable access to technology.
Don’t ever believe what you read.
WYSINWYG
Information Overload
The abundance of information available online can be overwhelming.
With the rise of social media and instant access to data, it becomes
challenging to sift through the vast amount of information and determine
its veracity. As a result, we may face difficulties in making informed
decisions and distinguishing fact from fiction.

22. Bad example
Recent: Data breaches and their consequences: Doxing
Kadaster Netherlands (Land Registry)
A security breach allowed anyone to access data in the protected
part of the Land Registry in a childishly simple manner. Thus,
residential addresses of millions of Dutch citizens could be
found out by anyone. According to experts, this is a dangerous
situation and the data are worth gold to criminals.
The restricted area should be accessible to bailiffs and
notaries, but also real estate agents and lawyers. They
need access to this information from time to time in order
to do their work and can create an account for this
purpose.
According to Dutch RTL News, however, the security turned
out to be "as leaky as a sieve": they were able to access
the protected, private part of the Land Registry and could
thus delve into the data of millions of Dutch citizens to their
heart's content.
Doxing (sometimes written as Doxxing) is the act of
revealing identifying information about someone online,
such as their real name, home address, workplace, phone,
financial, and other personal information. That
information is then circulated to the public — without the
victim's permission.
