The butterfly effect analysis; MEDIA STUDIES KASStrein96
Our task as a group was to individually write an analysis of an opening sequence of a psychological thriller.
I chose The Butterfly Effect
Josh chose The Shawshank Redemption
Dom chose Panic Room
This is my powerpoint of the screenshots within the opening sequence, all annotated and full described of Mise en Scene and how it effects the viewer.
This is a Powerpoint Presentation on Genre Conventions for our chosen genre of Horror. We have given the main conventions, how they are used in horror films (including examples) and how we will use them in our film to represent the genre og horror.

A Strategic Approach: GenAI in EducationPeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.

Synthetic Fiber Construction in lab .pptxPavel ( NSTU)
Synthetic fiber production is a fascinating and complex field that blends chemistry, engineering, and environmental science. By understanding these aspects, students can gain a comprehensive view of synthetic fiber production, its impact on society and the environment, and the potential for future innovations. Synthetic fibers play a crucial role in modern society, impacting various aspects of daily life, industry, and the environment. ynthetic fibers are integral to modern life, offering a range of benefits from cost-effectiveness and versatility to innovative applications and performance characteristics. While they pose environmental challenges, ongoing research and development aim to create more sustainable and eco-friendly alternatives. Understanding the importance of synthetic fibers helps in appreciating their role in the economy, industry, and daily life, while also emphasizing the need for sustainable practices and innovation.

2. Cinematography: Extreme close-up of Sarah vomiting. Camera is moving towards the next shots where she sees a
ghostly figure of a friend.
Mise en scene: Sarah finishing vomiting after she had escaped and drove away for a few seconds before she broke
down.
Narrative: Sarah had just escaped the cave after some time stuck in there, thinking she had killed one of her
friends. After breaking down, her feelings (as well as the break down itself) affect her body, causing her to vomit.
Editing and Effects: Editing and effects used to create the environment of a gloomy, rainy day supported by the rain
on the car.
Sound: Diegetic sound of vomit leaving the mouth and the character spitting the vomit out.
3. Cinematography: Transitions (through moving
shots) to mid shots of Sarah and a ghostly figure of
Juno.
Mise en scene and Effects: Sarah sits back and
notices her friend in her car, face covered in blood.
She screams in fright and reaction. The lighting has
exaggerations of blue to add to the eerie factor of
the expressionless, ghostly figure of Juno.
Narrative: Sarah notices the ghostly figure of Juno.
This suspects the viewer that Sarah is suffering a
side effect of staying in the cave too long – which
was described in a scene where they were walking
to the underground pit. If Juno had not sat in the
car with Sarah, we wouldn’t know if Sarah had
actually escaped or not, but Juno being in this
scene shows that Sarah is not actually escaping.
Editing: Brightness reduced to add to the ghost’s
eerie look. Editing wasn’t used to switch shots, this
time.
Sound: Non-diegetic sound of a high-pitched
screech to increase the shock on Sarah and the
viewer. Diegetic sound of Sarah screaming in
reaction to the ghost of Juno.
4. Cinematography: Close-up of Sarah, who is actually lying in a cave. Camera is still.
Mise en scene and Effects: Sarah lays down in a cave and opens her eyes . This shows that she
was dreaming after being knocked out after falling, although it could be seen as a hallucination
as well. Lighting is red to show the red flare used to navigate in the cave and exaggerate the
blood on Sarah’s face.
Narrative: Sarah is seen sleeping. This can show she was knocked out after a certain scenario
(e.g. she fell). She opens her eyes at this point, showing her awakening. This shot appeared after
a drastic cut from the last shot inside the car, showing that she may have been dreaming or
hallucinating
Editing: Brightness reduced to match a cave’s environment. Red colours exaggerated. Camera
cuts drastically to contrast from the outside to back inside the cave.
Sound: Sound of the flare can be heard on mostly the right speaker, it could be diegetic or non-
diegetic. The screaming stops but is echoed using audio filters to further give the feeling of
dreaming that Sarah had been going through in this scene.
