The needs of researchers in key disciplines are changing rapidly and this has important implications for the library’s role in enhancing research productivity and impact.
Librarians can build a roadmap for supporting 21st Century research needs that draws on both published research sources and institution-specific user research. Several key trends from recent studies and ideas for institution-specific user research tools are highlighted within.

However I am of the opinion that Social Media is not an add-on to a marketing plan, but social is the way forward for a marketing plan. Case sStudy
This study evaluated the impact of an information literacy course on preservice teachers' skills. It compared a treatment group of 16 students who took the course to a comparison group of 10 students who did not. Both groups completed a questionnaire and thinking-aloud tasks involving finding articles, evaluating websites, and selecting Web 2.0 tools. Results showed the treatment group performed better on skills tests and demonstrated more familiarity with resources. However, neither group excellently completed all tasks. The study concluded that while the course helped, an enhanced long-term instruction program is needed to fully develop teachers' twenty-first century information literacy abilities.

Evidence from the frontline of searching j clapton
Janet Clapton conducted research to analyze which bibliographic databases are most relevant for social care literature. She carried out a systematic search of 31 databases, labeling 500 references by their source. Her analysis found that references came from a variety of sources.
Clapton also recorded her experiences conducting this research project. She tracked 70 hours over 35 occasions spent on the project. Her results showed the importance of preparing literature reviews, analyzing data, and disseminating findings.
Based on her experience, Clapton provides tips for practitioner researchers, noting the importance of time management, doubling up work, and maintaining software and hardware.

Update on the JISC KeepIt Repository Preservation Exemplars Project, June 2010
The KeepIt project held a meeting to discuss digital preservation repositories. It has two strands: people (e.g. repository managers) and technology (e.g. preservation tools). The meeting covered topics like organizational issues, costs, workflows and formats. A course on preservation tools was evaluated positively, though applicability was sometimes too focused on research data. Objectives included upgrading repositories, specializing tools for teaching/learning and research formats, and assessing preservation requirements based on anticipated growth. Lessons learned included the value of existing tools, positive response to hands-on practice, and need to simplify tools for non-specialists and integrate them into repositories. Transforming repositories: from repository managers to institutional data man...
The last decade has seen support for digital preservation transformed. There are now a multitude of organisations, training courses, and software development tools to help guide managers of digital data towards preservation decisions and solutions. But how well do these approaches understand the needs and requirements of users? This presentation was given at ECA 2010, a conference for digital archiving professionals. But not everyone can be a digital archiving specialist. At a time of exploding volumes of digital content, especially on the Web, many non-specialists need help in preserving digital content. The presentation looks at the applicability and practicality of all this support for one class of user, digital repositories, and in particular institutional repositories (IRs) and their managers. We report on a course on digital preservation tools, designed by repository managers as part of the JISC KeepIt project. Positive feedback from the evaluations of this course have show that the emergence of the tools used in this course is a great story for digital preservation.

The typical problem in product engineering is not bad strategy, so much as “no strategy”. This leads to confusion, lack of motivation, and incoherent action. The next time you look for a strategy and find an empty space, instead of waiting for it to be filled, I will show you how to fill it in yourself. If you’re wrong, it forces a correction. If you’re right, it helps create focus. I’ll share how I’ve approached this in the past, both what works and lessons for what didn’t work so well.
Mutation Testing for Task-Oriented Chatbots
Conversational agents, or chatbots, are increasingly used to access all sorts of services using natural language. While open-domain chatbots - like ChatGPT - can converse on any topic, task-oriented chatbots - the focus of this paper - are designed for specific tasks, like booking a flight, obtaining customer support, or setting an appointment. Like any other software, task-oriented chatbots need to be properly tested, usually by defining and executing test scenarios (i.e., sequences of user-chatbot interactions). However, there is currently a lack of methods to quantify the completeness and strength of such test scenarios, which can lead to low-quality tests, and hence to buggy chatbots.
To fill this gap, we propose adapting mutation testing (MuT) for task-oriented chatbots. To this end, we introduce a set of mutation operators that emulate faults in chatbot designs, an architecture that enables MuT on chatbots built using heterogeneous technologies, and a practical realisation as an Eclipse plugin. Moreover, we evaluate the applicability, effectiveness and efficiency of our approach on open-source chatbots, with promising results.

Its core banking applications run on the mainframe and Citizens was using legacy utilities to get the critical mainframe data to feed customer-facing channels, like call centers, web, and mobile. Ultimately, this led to higher operating costs (MIPS), delayed response times, and longer time to market.
Ever-changing customer expectations demand more modern digital experiences, and the bank needed to find a solution that could provide real-time data to its customer channels with low latency and operating costs.
