● POLITICS - is derived from the Greek word polis which means
“city-state”, a small independent self- contained political society.
5. POLITICS AS:
Politics is what defines the
activities of the government
and of the state.
Politics is played by
everybody, politicians or not.
In politics, compromise,
conciliation and negotiation
become necessary.
Politics happens in all human
interactions: within the family, among
friends, among officemates, etc.

8. TWO APPROACHES to
the STUDY of POLITICS
It is the traditional approach in
which the primary goal is to
understand the essence or the
truth about politics.
It is the empirical/ objective approach
in which it places little emphasis on
abstract and normative questions,
and concentrates on a dispassionate
and objective view of the realities of
politics.

An actor is a sector or group or

A structure refers to an
organization or mechanism that
