God wants us to be secure in His covenant of grace
He can never break His covenant with His Son,
Jesus, on our behalf

Teaching The Law makes us insecure
- when we believe its based on our
performance we feel guilty and insecure
1 John 5:13 These things have I written unto you
that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye
may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may
believe on the name of the Son of God.
Hebrews 13:5 For He Himself has said,“I will
never leave you nor forsake you.”

No matter what situation you are in – we have an
unbreakable covenant of favor and grace through
Jesus
Romans 8:31 What then shall we say to these
things? If God is for us, who can be against us?
32 He who did not spare His own Son, but
delivered Him up for us all, how shall He not with
Him also freely give us all things? …

Romans 8:34 Who is he who condemns? It is
Christ who died, and furthermore is also risen, who
is even at the right hand of God, who also makes
intercession for us. 35 Who shall separate us from
the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or

“more than conquerors” – hupernikao – one who is
super victorious, wins more than an ordinary victory

1 Samue; 17:26 Then David spoke to the men

the man who kills this Philistine and takes away the
reproach from Israel? For who is this uncircumcised
Philistine, that he should defy the armies of the living
God?”

“You come to me with a sword, with a spear, and
with a javelin. But I come to you in the name of the
Lord of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, whom
you have defied. 46 This day the Lord will deliver
you into my hand, and I will strike you and take your
head from you.And this day I will give the carcasses
of the camp of the Philistines to the birds of the air
and the wild beasts of the earth, that all the earth
may know that there is a God in Israel.

spear; for the battle is the Lord’s, and He will give
you into our hands.”

1 Samuel 18:3 Then Jonathan and David made a
covenant, because he loved him as his own soul.
4 And Jonathan took off the robe that was on him
and gave it to David, with his armor, even to his
sword and his bow and his belt.
- Exchange of robes – Jonathon gave his royal robe
and weapons to a shepherd

1 Samuel 20:14 And you shall not only show me
the kindness of the Lord while I still live, that I may
not die; 15 but you shall not cut off your kindness
from my house forever, no, not when the Lord has
cut off every one of the enemies of David from the
face of the earth.” 16 So Jonathan made a covenant
with the house of David, saying, “Let the Lord
require it at the hand of David’s enemies.”

Saul - represents the human race
- we are all rebellious, don’t trust God
Jonathon – represents Jesus, God the Son
- means given by Jehovah, a gift from
God
David – represents God the Father
So God the Father cut a covenant with God the Son

2 Samuel 4:4 Jonathan, Saul’s son, had a son who
was lame in his feet. He was five years old when the
news about Saul and Jonathan came from Jezreel;
and his nurse took him up and fled.And it happened,
as she made haste to flee, that he fell and became
lame. His name was Mephibosheth – (to breath out
shame)
- The world has a wrong perception about God, they
think He is full of wrath and judgment – so they flee
God

The house of Saul needs to hear the good news
David loves them and wants to bless them

2 Samuel 9:1 Now David said,“Is there still
anyone who is left of the house of Saul, that I may
show him kindness for Jonathan’s sake?”
2 And there was a servant of the house of Saul
whose name was Ziba. So when they had called him
to David, the king said to him,“Are you Ziba?”
He said,“At your service!”

2 Samuel 9:3 Then the king said,“Is there not still
someone of the house of Saul, to whom I may show
the kindness of God?”
And Ziba said to the king,“There is still a son of
Jonathan who is lame in his feet.”
4 So the king said to him,“Where is he?”
And Ziba said to the king,“Indeed he is in the house
of Machir the son of Ammiel, in Lo Debar.” –
LoDebar – no word, without pasture

18.
The house of Saul is without word and without rest
– so they are in a desert place
Mephibosheth is a prince but doesn’t know it
God wants to show kindness to His people for Jesus
sake

2 Samue9:7 So David said to him,“Do not fear,
for I will surely show you kindness for Jonathan your
father’s sake, and will restore to you all the land of
Saul your grandfather; and you shall eat bread at my
table continually.”
8 Then he bowed himself, and said,“What is your
servant, that you should look upon such a dead dog
as I?”

1 Samuel 9:9 And the king called to Ziba, Saul’s
servant, and said to him,“I have given to your
master’s son all that belonged to Saul and to all his
house. 10 You therefore, and your sons and your
servants, shall work the land for him, and you shall
bring in the harvest, that your master’s son may have
food to eat. But Mephibosheth your master’s son
shall eat bread at my table always.” Now Ziba had
fifteen sons and twenty servants.

1 Samuel 9:11 Then Ziba said to the king,
“According to all that my lord the king has
commanded his servant, so will your servant do.”
“As for Mephibosheth,” said the king, “he shall eat at
my table like one of the king’s sons.”
12 Mephibosheth had a young son whose name was
Micha.And all who dwelt in the house of Ziba were
servants of Mephibosheth. 13 So Mephibosheth
dwelt in Jerusalem, for he ate continually at the
king’s table.And he was lame in both his feet.

2 Samuel 9:7 So David said to him,“Do not fear, for
I will surely show you kindness for Jonathan your
father’s sake
- God will show us grace for His Son’s sake
- If you need a miracle – you will get a miracle
- It is an unbreakable covenant of grace
- We are Kings and Priests based on what Jesus has
done – in our own strength we are crippled

23. I Corinthians 11:24
“Take, eat; this is My body which is broken for you; do
this in remembrance of Me.” 25 In the same manner He
also took the cup after supper, saying,“This cup is the
new covenant in My blood.This do, as often as you drink
it, in remembrance of Me.”
26 For as often as you eat this bread and drink this cup,
you proclaim the Lord’s death till He comes.
