Punitive notions of disease have a long history, and such notions are particularly active with cancer. There is the “fight” or “crusade” against cancer; cancer is the “killer” disease; people who have cancer are “cancer victims.” Ostensibly, the illness is the culprit. But it is also the cancer patient who is made culpable. Widely believed psychological theories of disease assign to the ill the ultimate responsibility both for falling ill and for getting well. And conventions of treating cancer as no mere disease but a demonic enemy make cancer not just a lethal disease but a shameful one.
Leprosy in its heyday aroused a similarly disproportionate sense of horror. In the Middle Ages the leper was a social text in which corruption was made visible; an exemplum, an emblem of decay. Nothing is more punitive than to give a disease a meaning—that meaning being invariably a moralistic one. Any important disease, whose physical etiology is not understood, and for which treatment is ineffectual, tends to be awash in significance. First, the subjects of deepest dread (corruption, decay, pollution, anomie, weakness) are identified with the disease. The disease itself becomes a metaphor. Then, in the name of the disease (that is, using it as a metaphor), that horror is imposed on other things. The disease becomes adjectival. Something is said to be disease-like, meaning that it is disgusting or ugly. In French, a crumbling stone façade is still “lépreuse.”
Epidemic diseases were a common figure for social disorder. From pestilence (bubonic plague) came “pestilent,” whose figurative meaning, according to the Oxford English Dictionary, is “injurious to religion, morals, or public peace—1513”; and “pestilential,” meaning “morally baneful or pernicious—1531.” Feelings about evil are projected onto a disease. And the disease (so enriched with meanings) is projected onto the world.
In the past, such grandiloquent fantasies were regularly attached to the epidemic diseases, diseases that were a collective calamity. In the past two centuries, the diseases most often used as metaphors for evil were syphilis, tuberculosis, and cancer—all diseases imagined to be, preeminently, the diseases of individuals.
Syphilis was thought to be not only a horrible disease but a demeaning, vulgar one. Antidemocrats used it to evoke the desecrations of an egalitarian age. In a late note for his never completed book on Belgium, Baudelaire wrote:
We all have the republican spirit in our veins, like syphilis in our bones—we are democratized and venerealized.
In the sense of an infection that corrupts morally and debilitates physically, syphilis was to become a standard trope in late nineteenth- and early twentieth-century anti-Semitic polemics. The Ohio State University Comprehensive Cancer Center, will provide insight into new directions in targeted therapeutic approaches for older adults with mantle cell lymphoma.
STATEMENT OF NEED
Mantle cell lymphoma (MCL) is a rare, aggressive B-cell non-Hodgkin lymphoma (NHL) accounting for 5% to 7% of all lymphomas. Its prognosis ranges from indolent disease that does not require treatment for years to very aggressive disease, which is associated with poor survival (Silkenstedt et al, 2021). Typically, MCL is diagnosed at advanced stage and in older patients who cannot tolerate intensive therapy (NCCN, 2022). Although recent advances have slightly increased remission rates, recurrence and relapse remain very common, leading to a median overall survival between 3 and 6 years (LLS, 2021). Though there are several effective options, progress is still needed towards establishing an accepted frontline approach for MCL (Castellino et al, 2022). Treatment selection and management of MCL are complicated by the heterogeneity of prognosis, advanced age and comorbidities of patients, and lack of an established standard approach for treatment, making it vital that clinicians be familiar with the latest research and advances in this area. In this activity chaired by Michael Wang, MD, Professor in the Department of Lymphoma & Myeloma at MD Anderson Cancer Center, expert faculty will discuss prognostic factors informing treatment, the promising results of recent trials in new therapeutic approaches, and the implications of treatment resistance in therapeutic selection for MCL.

RESULTS: Overall life span (LS) was 2252.1±1742.5 days and cumulative 5-year survival (5YS) reached 73.2%, 10 years – 64.8%, 20 years – 42.5%. 513 LCP lived more than 5 years (LS=3124.6±1525.6 days), 148 LCP – more than 10 years (LS=5054.4±1504.1 days).199 LCP died because of LC (LS=562.7±374.5 days). 5YS of LCP after bi/lobectomies was significantly superior in comparison with LCP after pneumonectomies (78.1% vs.63.7%, P=0.00001 by log-rank test). AT significantly improved 5YS (66.3% vs. 34.8%) (P=0.00000 by log-rank test) only for LCP with N1-2. Cox modeling displayed that 5YS of LCP significantly depended on: phase transition (PT) early-invasive LC in terms of synergetics, PT N0—N12, cell ratio factors (ratio between cancer cells- CC and blood cells subpopulations), G1-3, histology, glucose, AT, blood cell circuit, prothrombin index, heparin tolerance, recalcification time (P=0.000-0.038). Neural networks, genetic algorithm selection and bootstrap simulation revealed relationships between 5YS and PT early-invasive LC (rank=1), PT N0—N12 (rank=2), thrombocytes/CC (3), erythrocytes/CC (4), eosinophils/CC (5), healthy cells/CC (6), lymphocytes/CC (7), segmented neutrophils/CC (8), stick neutrophils/CC (9), monocytes/CC (10); leucocytes/CC (11). Correct prediction of 5YS was 100% by neural networks computing (area under ROC curve=1.0; error=0.0).
CONCLUSIONS: 5YS of LCP after radical procedures significantly depended on: 1) PT early-invasive cancer; 2) PT N0--N12; 3) cell ratio factors; 4) blood cell circuit; 5) biochemical factors; 6) hemostasis system; 7) AT; 8) LC characteristics; 9) LC cell dynamics; 10) surgery type: lobectomy/pneumonectomy; 11) anthropometric data. Optimal diagnosis and treatment strategies for LC are: 1) screening and early detection of LC; 2) availability of experienced thoracic surgeons because of complexity of radical procedures; 3) aggressive en block surgery and adequate lymph node dissection for completeness; 4) precise prediction; 5) adjuvant chemoimmunoradiotherapy for LCP with unfavorable prognosis.

2. There are many ideas about the nature and cause of cancer.
But God’s Word gives us all things that pertain unto life (2
Peter 1: 3). What does therefore, does the Bible teach about
cancer? In the Bible a “Canker” is something that eats away
at the body.
2Timothy And their word will eat as doth a canker …
3. Johnson’s English Dictionary (1755) tells us that the word
“canker” is the same as the word canker.
The Bible refers to a “canker worm”:
Nahum There shall the fire devour thee; the sword shall
cut thee off; it shall eat thee up like the cankerworm:
make thyself many as the cankerworm, make thyself many
as the locusts.
4. “The ancients knew of cancer for we find it described by
Galen … The Bible also refers to cancer [2 Timothy 2: 17],
‘and their word will eat as doth a canker’ (cancer) …

Is thi9s an important key to understand cancer as disease?
Obviously, there are worms that can eat up corps in the
fields. It is therefore not unreasonable to assume that there
are worms that can eat up the physical body! Perhaps there
are various types of “cankerworms” (i.e. cancer worms)!:

sat upon his throne, and made an oration unto them
22 And the people gave a shout, saying, It is the voice of a
god, and not a man.
23 And immediately the angel of The Lord smote him,
because he gave not God the glory: and he was eaten of
worms, and gave up the ghost.

6. Job My flesh is clothed with worms and clods of dust; my
skin is broken, and become loathsome.
The Bible also speaks of “pestilences: that will arise in the
last days. The “pests” (worms, or parasites) are not usually
seen by the naked eye:
Psalms Nor for the pestilence that walketh in darkness …
Luke And great earthquakes shall be in divers places, and
famines, and pestilences …
7. Is cancer one of these pestilences in the last days? Cancer
rates have certainly been increasing madly:
“Deaths from cancer are constantly increasing … in 1900 in
the United States it was 63 per 100,000 …”
(Pacific Medical Journal, Volume 58, 1915).
By year 2007, the cancer rate had shot up to 465 per 100,
000! (United States Cancer Statistics Incidence and
Mortality Report).
8. “Professor Sanfelice, of the University Of Messina [Milan],
claims to have discovered after fifteen years of experiments
that cancer is caused by a parasite and to have found a serum
which kills it …”
(Columbus Medical Journal, 1909)
“Most experts are agreed that [cancer] must be due to a
parasite … Figiber … examined 61 rats which had been caught
in a sugar refinery, and out of that number he succeeded in
finding his newly discovered ‘parasite’ in 40 of them … By
feeding to rats the cockroaches infected with the eggs of the
parasite, he succeeded in producing the cancerous growth in
every rat!”

9. How do we obtain
these deadly
Parasites??????????
10. The Bible speaks of the “diseases of the Egyptians” (Exodus 15:
26). Ancient Egyptian “medical” records refer to this disease of
cancer; and they reveal the extent that the Egyptians ate
unclean animals, and even used the dung of unclean animals in
their “medicines”:
“…[It] has been found in an old Egyptian mummy …The Papyrus
Ebers 1550 B.C. [ancient Egyptian medical Journal], contains an
account of malignant tumor …”

There are probably multiple ways to get these cancer “worms”.
Parasites often cause innumerable diseases, and it is not
unreasonable to also link them to cancers.
11. Many ailments and diseases are likely simply other names for
Trichinosis (worms), and such like, that have invaded the
muscles, lungs, brain, etc., and have multiplied. Notice how
many doctors and researchers in earlier years, linked cancer to
parasites obtained by insanitary conditions, or an unsanitary
and/or immoderate diet:
“A most striking example of this form of tumor … came under
my observation in 1869, in a German, fifty-four years of age,
who had long been in the habit of eating pork.”
