Comparison Of Adam Bede And Goblin Market
Comparing George Eliot s Adam Bede and Christina Rossetti s Goblin Market
George Eliot s Adam Bede offers a realistic and highly detailed look into the everyday life of
ordinary people in rural Treddleston. Although the characters are fictional, several of them are
based upon people Eliot knew or knew of, which adds to the realism. As she delightedly observes
and describes the intricacies of the natural, ordinary world, Eliot pays attention to human nature,
applying keen psychological insight to characters thoughts, choices, and actions. Eliot seems to
understand that certain people are a certain way, and she encourages her reader to gently evaluate,
rather than hastily judge, both her characters and people in general. Within the ... Show more

Eliot describes the problem with physical attractiveness, the kind that renders Hetty susceptible to
vanity, self centredness, and ultimately, poor choices. Beautiful, kitten like Hetty is so caught up in
her appearance and in the way she is certain others perceive her that she is barely affected by the
serious and often grave situations others are experiencing. In fact, after discovering that Adam s
father had died, Hetty was thinking a great deal more of the looks Captain Donnithorne had cast at
her than of Adam and his troubles (Eliot 96). It is not that Hetty is deliberately cruel or uncaring,
but admiring glances from a handsome young gentleman, with white hands...and wealth and
grandeur immeasurable...set poor Hetty s heart vibrating, and playing its little foolish tunes over
and over again (Eliot 96). Eliot, though clearly disapproving of Hetty s foolish vanity, nonetheless
encourages her reader to be understanding of the young girl. She directly addresses the reader as
she accounts for Hetty s self centredness:
We must learn to accommodate ourselves to the discovery that some of those commonly fashioned
instruments called human souls have only a very limited range of music, and will not vibrate in the
least under a touch that fills others with tremulous rapture or quivering agony. (Eliot 96)
Hetty is lacking in the very area Eliot

The Household Circle Of India
1.The household circle in France and that of India display numerous similarities. However, it may
be that such is the case in most countries where families are kept together. In India, distant relatives
like grandparents and cousins either settle collectively or maintain a near distance if living
separately. Indians are not as likely as Americans to relocate away from their families and, when it
is economically possible, prefer to stay in the same geographic area. Though it seems that the
French differentiate from that of my own culture due to that fact that they maintain relations with
those of the enlarged household till the third or fourth generation. Also, on page 60 Au Contraire
mentions that the extended kinsfolk gather together for a Sunday lunch. This is generally not seen
in India as members of the lengthened household may reside adjacent to each other, but do not meet
as often as the French. Nonetheless, as an Indian American, my society maintains most of the
aspects of the Indian community and a little of the typical American culture. The French concept of
the state of a young adult is similar to my cultural structure due to the fact that the youth gravitate
to stay nearby parents until marriage in order to remain under their watchful eye and to refrain
from an involvement of morally disliked activities. Similarly, as mentioned on page 60 of the book
Au Contraire, in France, children attend universities in close proximity to their homes and lean to

I write to express my interest in the tenure track appointment in guitar at the assistant or associate
professor level beginning fall 2018 at the Arizona State University School of Music. While I have
taught at a number of institutions, my position at Georgia State University (GSU) has offered the
greatest opportunities for professional growth. Consequently, my discussion of professional
activities will focus primarily on the work I have done in connection with GSU starting in 2012. In
this time I have revitalized a failing guitar program, reinstated its MM performance degree, and
created a guitar chair position within the Georgia Music Educators Association (GMEA) while
holding two to three part time positions and maintaining an active... Show more content on

I have taught Brazilian, Mexican, Chinese, Indian, and Pakistani students, among other
nationalities, and have experience working with special needs students. Because the GSU SOM
offers degrees in Music Performance, Music Education, Music Composition, Music Technology,
and Music Management, all of these majors may be in the studio at one time, each with different
lesson and degree requirements. Provided students are able to apply themselves and accept my
high expectations, I am excited to have them and their variety of perspectives and experiences in
the studio. My most impactful endeavor at GSU is the reinstatement of the Master of Music in
Guitar Performance degree which was deactivated in 2000. In the spring of 2015, with the support
of the GSU SOM interim director, I submitted a proposal for reinstatement. The proposal had the
honor of being fast tracked by upper level administration and passed all college and university level
committees by December 2015. Following reinstatement at the university level, I worked closely
with my director/dean and graduate coordinator in successfully petitioning NASM for accreditation.
The MM in Guitar Performance degree accepted students fall 2016 and I was granted a graduate
assistant to aid with teaching and administrative duties. There

Analysis Of John Was An American Comic Book Artist
John was an American comic book artist known for his work with EC Comic on Two Fisted
Tales and Frontline Combat, Marvel Comics on war and western comics, and a 45 year stint with
the magazine Cracked. He was also one of the founding artists of Mad in 1952. Severin was
insucted into the Will Eisner Award Hall of Fame in 2003 before passing away in 2012.
Severin s strongest aspects of this piece are framing, line work, and detail. The framing is
successful with the archway in the foreground of the environment. This black arch frames the
whole piece. Within the arch, the skeletons create a secondary framing device, calling attention to
the men on the stains. The immense detail in the skeletons allow them to work with the top arch ...

The black placement is almost nonexistent except for inside the building in the background. This
pulls the viewer to this spot, which is rather unimportant in the image, while the focus should be on
the woman.
This piece successfully utilizes hatching, black placement, and has reproduced a character who is
identifiable. The hatching in the cloak of the character shows directionality without becoming too
complicated can being distracting. The black placement in the cloak weights the character provides
ground for him and the mailbox to sit on. The reproduction of a character is sometimes difficult to
achieve without matching a certain style. Severin successfully achieves drawing Bilbo Baggins and
having him recognizable, despite the name on the mail box to push recognition. The weakest
aspect of the piece is acting. Bilbo is stiff, and white he is in the act of taking the mail out of the
mailbox, he breaks the fourth wall by looking at the viewer. It would be more successful acting if
he was looking at the action he was performing.
The strongest aspect of this piece is line direction. In the water they encircle the action, and in the
rocks they lead the viewer down into the water. They also aid in the creation of texture, rhythm,
pattern, and framing. The texture created by the lines in the water reflect ripples that would
actually occur in the real world.

Jean Piagets Theory
Throughout history, many people have made many contributions to the school of psychology.
One individual is that of Jean Piaget and his theories on the cognitive development stages. Jean
Piaget was born in Neuchatel, Switzerland, where he studied at the university and received a
doctorate in biology at the age of 22. Following college he became very interested in psychology
and began to research and studies of the subject. With his research Piaget created a broad
theoretical system for the development of cognitive abilities. His work, in this way, was much like
that of Sigmund Freud, but Piaget emphasized the ways that children think and acquire knowledge.
Piaget referred to his theory as genetic epistemology. This is defined as the... Show more content on

In addition , children use animistic thinking which is the tendency to endow events and objects
with lifelike attributes. The stage of concrete operations is so named because in this period
children operate and act on the concrete, real, and perceivable world of objects and events.
Egocentric thought is replaced by operational thought, which involves dealing with a wide array
of information outside the child. Therefore, children can now see things from someone else s
perspective. Children in this stage begin to use limited logical thought and processes and are able
to order and group things in classes on the basis of common characteristics. The child is able to
reason and to follow rules and regulations. They are able to regulate themselves , and they begin to
develop a moral sense and a code of values. Conservation is the ability to recognize that, although
the shape of objects may change, the mass and amount stay the same. For example, if you put the
same amount of liquid in two containers the child may think there is more in the taller cylinder.
Children also begin to understand reversibility, which is the capacity to understand the relationship
between things. They begin to realize that one thing can turn into another and back again. The most
important sign that children are still in the preoperational stage is that they have not achieved
conservation or reversibility. Dealing with

If Beale Street Could Talk by James Baldwin and John...
Andrew Bernstein, an author and professor of philosophy, once said, Nothing is given to man on
earth struggle is built into the nature of life, and conflict is possible the hero is the man who lets
no obstacle prevent him from pursuing the values he has chosen. Although many people transform
into someone they are not and forget what they believe in during challenging times, the true man
fights to remain loyal to his morals in the toughest of times. Martin Luther King, Jr. s quote about
the true neighbor exposing his real character and virtue in times of challenge and controversy is
revealed in James Baldwin s novel If Beale Street Could Talk and John Steinbecks novel The
Grapes of Wrath. In Baldwin s novel, Mr. Hayward sticks to his principles in a time of
controversy as he risks his reputation for the good of others; in Steinbeck s novel, Jim Casy
sacrifices his life for the welfare of others, while refusing to give up his beliefs. As readers
witness characters remaining true to themselves during hardships, as well as risking a part of
themselves to benefit others, they are reminded through the powerful messages in literature to be
cautious of their own reactions to distress and obstacles. In If Beale Street Could Talk, Baldwin
reveals that the character in this case, Mr. Hayward who remains honest to himself and risks his/her
reputation for others portrays the true neighbor. For one thing, Mr. Hayward, the lawyer, refuses to
accept the racial stereotypes

The Never Ending Israel-Palestine Peace Talks Essay
The news of people dying and suffering, killings of women and children, and bombings by terrorists
and militaries, has undoubtedly grabbed the world s attention towards the Israel Palestine conflict.
While Palestinian children scream for their dead parents, the world s leaders and academics
initiated a frantic debate, trying hard to point out the real cause and viable solutions for the current
situation. This has led to many peace initiatives by the international community that were
unfortunately a devastating failure. This deadlock had left leaders and supporters of both sides
blaming each other for their stubbornness, in some cases elevating the unrest in Israeland Palestine
(Reynolds). In this difficult condition, it is hard for us to... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The first negotiation and agreement between Palestine and Israel was the Oslo Agreement in
1993. In this agreement, Israel promised the Palestinians that they would withdraw from part of
the Palestinian land. The Oslo Agreement aimed on putting an end to decades of confrontation
and conflict and recognizing both sides have legitimate and political rights . Unfortunately, the
agreement failed due to lack of implementation and cooperation from both Israelis and
Palestinians (Reynolds). Subsequently, in the year 2000, Camp David was organized by Bill
Clinton in his effort to address the final issues of the Oslo Agreement which were boarders,
Jerusalem and refugees. In this peace talk, the Palestinians were represented by Arafat while the
Israelis were represented by Barak. Arafat and Barak failed to agree in the talk as the maximum
Barak could offer was less than the minimum Arafat would accept (Reynolds). Subsequent peace
talks after Camp David also faced similar problems.
Israel s Perspective on the Issue. In order for us to comprehend why Israel is reluctant to fulfill
Palestine s demands in peace talks, it is essential that we observe the connection Israelis have with
the Palestinian land. According to Israel s history, the land of Palestine, or more specifically,
Jerusalem, originally belonged to the Jews. About 3,000 years ago, King David made Jerusalem the

The Tensile Of Tensile Test
The tensile test is a standout amongst the most normally utilized tests for assessing materials. The
tensile test is done just by grasping inverse finishes of test thing and applying elastic power with the
machine. This outcomes in continuous stretching and consequent fracture in the test thing. During
this procedure, power expansion information normally are checked and recorded. Malleable test
measures properties like extreme rigidity and most extreme stretching specifically simultaneously,
utilizing these estimations different properties, for example, Young s Modulus, Poisson s
proportion and yield quality can likewise be resolved. At the point when appropriately directed, the
pliable test results power expansion information that can measure a few vital mechanical properties
of a material. The ductile test led for this paper is done in room temperature under the ISO 6892 1
standard.
4.6 Sheet Metal Cutting Methods For conducting a tensile test, the sheet metals will be cut from
cold formed metal sheet by various cutting techniques. Regular techniques for cutting sheet metal
will be explored. Reviewed techniques are metal stamping/blanking, water plane cutting and wire
electrical release machine cutting.

Men As An Object Of Society Analysis
Men as an Object of Society
A lethal duel between Major von Crampas and Baron von Instetten had taken place in the
seaside resort of Kessin in Eastern Pomerania, resulting in the death of the major (Fontane
Chapter 29 ). The duel occurred as a result of the Major having a love affair with the Baron s wife
six years ago, and was revealed through the previous love letters that had been discovered in the
wife s sewing table. WГјllersdorf, a lawyer and friend to the Baron, was immediately summoned to
deliver the challenge of the duel and to act as a second in the affair (Fontane Chapter 27 ). Dueling
had become a common practice in Germany, much to the point that it questions whether this

Being considered a coward is the true insults to male honour that men including Innstetten felt if
he did not provoke a duel. Likewise, the challenged party such as Crampas would feel equally
obliged to accept the duel; otherwise he would infinitely suffer the criticism from the larger society
(Frevent 176). The Baron was quick to notify WГјllersdorf with a note regarding the affair, which
he should have controlled his emotions (Fontane Chapter 27 ). Even when WГјllersdorf had vowed
to keep silent of the affair, Innstetten not wanting to be the object of his sympathy, considered it
too late to undo the dueling request (Fontane Chapter 27 ). He took his pride seriously, and was
convinced that duel was the only solution even when his happiness was at stake (Fontane Chapter

wishes of the community. Masculinity and honour is defended when one was courageous enough

James Bond Personality Traits
James Bond has been around since 1962, and 26 movies later, his image is still going strong of the
extremely handsome and covert agent that saves the day, and always gets a pretty lady/Bond Girl,
at some point of the movie, to himself. Skyfall incorporated all these traits that make 007 (another
name James Bondgoes by) who he is. Skyfall is a Bond movie that describes his comeback to MI6
(his secret agency) after being off the radar for a long amount of time. Bond shows the usual
Bond traits in this movie, but at the start, he needs to brush off the dust and get back into the hunt.
And of course he gets back quickly and stronger than ever. For years, Bond has been a male dream

the middle of the fight and being the target, even M s entire character changes from a women
that was always a step ahead, knows what to say and when to say it, and was always calm cool
and collected. All of that changes though when the villain is staring her in the face with a gun
pointed to her head. M knew right there she was powerless to what happened next. Only one
person in Skyfall has the power to save her, and that is her ace in the hole 007. After a shootout
at the court house, Bond and M are going to go to the one place Bond knows better than his
enemy, and that is home. On the way there, M says Too many people are dying because of me,
showing that she truly leave the situation in Bond s hands because she would never say
something like this if she could find her own way out. This speaks to the masculinity and power
Bond has in these situations. At Skyfall, even then you see a male dominated fighting plan, as
Bond and his housekeeper are both equipped with shot guns while M is given equipped with any
resources she can find. When then fight begins M kills two people total and Bond s housekeeper
kills four, with Bond mowing down the rest. Bond even completely exploded the house after the
three had gotten out (nothing is more masculine than an explosion). In the closing of this fight

the situation. M, unfortunately, is overused to the

The Importance Of Group Communication At Cyberbullying
The opportunity to do the group project helped put all of the readings and lectures into
perspective regarding group communication. Cyberbullying can be an intense topic, with people
having different experiences with it. It is also an extremely complex issue with a lot of gray
areas and unknown factors when considering prevention and response. Due to the nature of the
topic of cyberbullying, being able to establish a group process as outlined in class readings and
lectures as quickly as possible would be beneficial. In order to have tough conversations and to
brainstorm efficiently, there must be clear group standards to have the most productive
conversation possible. Through knowledge about groups, awareness of the explicit and implicit
components of them, and the ability to avoid negative group practices allowed our group to
thrive. When group two first met, no one sat at the head of the table, but rather along the sides.
One student explicitly stated, Who wants to take the head chair and be the leader? The lack of
nonverbal leadership led to a few moments of slightly awkward silence as the group questioned
who should initiate the conversation. According to Burgoon s theory of proxemics, the fact that no
one sat at the head of the table completely threw off the traditional dynamics that are usually seen
in groups. In addition, everyone sat in one chair away from one another, keeping the space
personal, but not closer than 18 or so. This highlights what was found with

Molar Heat of Combustion
Aim:
To find the molar heat of combustion for four different alkanols:
1.Methanol
2.Ethanol
3.1 Propanol
4.1 Butanol
And to compare the experimental value with the theoretical.
Background:
The Molar Heat of Combustion of a substance is the heat liberated when 1 mole of the substance
undergoes complete combustion with oxygen at standard atmospheric pressure, with the final
products being carbon dioxide gas and liquid water. (Ref. Conquering Chemistry, Roland Smith,
2005 )

Karma In The Japanese Tales
In the Japanese Tales, translated by Royall Tyler, the observation that animals function as agent of
karma is valid. Aside from this motif, snakes can be portrayed with a broad range of abilities and
personalities in order to teach Buddhist values. Within these many Buddhist values are themes of
karma and lustthat teach a moral lesson, which gives snakes a paradoxical characterization. This
essay will show the complexity in characterization of snakes in order to express karmic

Uniform Commercial Code Pros And Cons
The Uniform Commercial Code (UCC) is a collection of laws that cover many different problems
that might come about in commercial transactions. These could include sales, contracts, leases,
letters of credit, bank collections and secured transactions. The hopes in creating the UCC was that
each state would adapt to it so that there would be uniformity among commercial law. The UCC
was created in the fall of 1951, Pennsylvania the first state to enact its laws adopted the codes in

The basic principles of satire include the usage of writing techniques to criticize, expose, and
ridicule a topic or group of people. Techniques include the usage of comedy, irony, and

Black Bears And The Black Bear
A typical West Michigan backyard has tendencies to be a visiting place from some of nature s
finest species. A raccoon, opossum, or even white tailed deer is very likely. A new likely
species? A black bear. The imagination of seeing one of the most potentially dangerous species
is actually becoming a reality in many locations all over the area. Many have reported aggressive
tendencies from the black bear population. Reports of attacks are emerging throughout the state.
Some experts say there is no trend of black bears migration to more southern areas of the state,
yet others have projected that Indiana and Illinois will have some sort of black bear population.
For the moment, it seems as if we won t have to prepare ourselves for black bears, but the future
may hold new residents to the southern counties of Michigan. Black bears are being spotted
almost everyday in territories that are somewhat surprising. The concern for other species are
now taking place, and questions are being asked about the risk of other local species. Is there a
trend of black bears migrating south? Each year there are seems to be more evidence that black
bears are on the move to the southern part of the state. Michigan Radio reports that this a trend
for the past 5 to 10 years for young male black bears to roam south (As spring begins, para. 5).
Even though there are growing numbers of sightings, many can conclude they won t be established
in West Michigan for quite some time. If a time comes to

Fear can be expressed as a progressive element, which over the course of time picks away at the
characters sense of sanity. Throughout the film the audience may agree with Quentin: at first he
seems to be the only reasonable one out of the group, who doesn t real appear to be hiding
something (stating he s a cop). However by the end he turns out to be a woman abuser, and
bully. Quentin in the beginning of the film can easily be signified to represent the caretaker
amongst the group. However, Quentin anger progressively becomes the virtuous monster in the
film, to which by the end runs a fascist form of ministry. Thus fear is also generated in the film
from the sanctions imposed from Quentin, and his coercive persuasion over the other. Compared
to the character Worth who in contrast to Quenin is the outcast amongst the group in the
beginning, yet by the end he ends up a hero, sacrificing his life for Kazam. Finally the idea of the

place where the clash between the individual and society is reenacted

How Is Siddhartha Successful
Great achievement is always correlated with fame and riches, but is that all? What about happiness,
knowledge, and family? In the book Siddhartha by Hermann Hesse, the most successful characters
are Siddhartha and Vasudeva. Based on their pursuit of knowledge, evaluating themselves and their
psychological happiness, they have both become the characters that have lead a successful life.
Leading a successful life is no easy task, they are faced with many obstacles.
Initially, Siddhartha would ve been the successful character of the two, but thinking back on
Vasudeva and how he had his priorities straight from the beginning, it would make him be more
prosperous in life. The article How 9 Incredibly Successful People Define Success says, Zappos ...

Police Officer Shootings
Yes I do feel that our police departments generally do a good job of screening applicants. The
Knoxville Police Department employees 397 police officers to protect the city of Knoxville, which
had a population of 185,638 in 2015 (UCR, n.d.). According to the statistics on officer involved
shootings from the Knoxville PoliceDepartment there showed to be no shootings in 2015 but in
2014 there were five officer involved shootings, three of which were fatal for the suspect
(knoxvilletn.gov, n.d.). In each of these cases the officers were exonerated from liability as their
actions were found to be within departmental policy (knoxvilletn.gov, n.d.). I feel that the
psychological testing of incoming officers is an important aspect to ensure we hire the most
professional officers for our police forces but sometimes individuals with behavioral or mental
issues can be missed and any individual who exhibits such traits or bias should be dealt with or

In some of these cases there has been video evidence of the officer performing improperly and in
other cases the officer has performed properly and was exonerated. The media loves to report as

skewing the facts is a website I accessed while searching for information on police shootings. The
Washington Post website shows a database of police shootings in 2016 and when accessing the
website the number 958 is in large letters with lethal force written underneath and it ticks up one
digit at a time to reach 963 (Washington Post, n.d.). This makes it appear that shootings are
occurring currently even though 2016 has already past. Tactics such as this are those that the media

Summary Of Snapping Beans By Lisa Parker
No matter how far away from family you are, you will always be connected to your roots. In
Snapping Beans by Lisa Parker, Parker uses an important symbol that resonates throughout the
poem. The hickory leaf, which symbolizes the granddaughter, is the most important symbol in the
poem. The granddaughter is the first child to go off to college and learn from the books rather than
learn from culture like her grandmother. During her conversation with her grandmother concerning
school, there is a wave of emotions flowing through the granddaughter s mind. The response at the
end of the poem that the grandma gives, It s funny how things blow loose like that is significant to
the symbolism of the granddaughter. In the poem, the leaf is being blown

Causes And Effects Of The Titanic
The Titanic was the dream ship, the unsinkable ship. It was supposed to sail from Southampton,
England to New York on April 10, 1912. But the dream ship never made it to New York (Tibballs
25). The disaster of the Titanic was both tragic and adventures. The passengers were both poor
and very wealthy (Staff). The people were seeking adventure in a new country. Some went to
travel, others went to live the American dream and start a new life ( The Sinking... ). The dream
of the people came to an end on April 14, 1912. The Titanic was known as the greatest ship ever
built: luxurious, unsinkable, and unbelievably big (Dubowski 4). The Titanic was more than
882 feet long and 92 feet wide, and it stood 175 feet tall (Dubowski 5). Even though the Titanic
was a large ship, it only carried four collapsible boats and sixteen lifeboats, which wasn t enough
boats to accommodate all the passengers on the ship (Sherrow 10). The cost of a first class
parlor suite ticket range from $1,724 $4,350. In today s time, the ticket will cost about $100,000
(Tibballs 30). The first class passengers had a low opportunity to survive the Titanic voyage
(Staff). The Titanic s famous Captain Edward J. Smith was going to retire after planning the
Titanic s voyage (Rosenburg). The first day at sea was a success. Captain Smith felt like he
should make the voyage to New York sooner than expected (Sherrow 22). The passengers were
having a great time and happy with the progress of the Titanic (Dubowski 13). The Titanic had
received the first report of ice on April 14th (Rosenburg). The last warning was sent out between
9:30 p.m. regarding the Titanic had sheets of ice in their pathway (Tibballs 42). Captain Smith
went to bed without realizing the dangerousness of the iceberg (Rosenburg). The weather was
getting colder that night. Around 10 o clock that night, the weather got down to 31 degrees
Fahrenheit at sea ( The Sinking... ). It was very dark outside. The lookout couldn t see very far in
front of the ship (Rosenburg). The ship was speeding through the frigid water at 22 knots (Staff).

these people are people of color. One of the largest and poorest neighborhoods in the United States

The targets (1 7) of Goal 14 are designed to provide ways to monitor the progress of this goal.
Generally, these targets do this, however, they do not provide specifics for the ways in which they

Ecosystem Health and Ocean Observation. The IOC assesses marine environment globally working

Soft power is important in today s world because it essentially influences beliefs on one s behalf.
Convincing people to want what you want, instead of forcing them or coercion them holds a huge
advantage. The use of force and intimidation and coercion will ultimately lead to negative power.
The use of soft powerleads to positive power, where both sides win. Today, the growth of Asia
will heavily influence the power of the world, and is shaped by their beliefs. As Dr. Nye states in
the video, power today is not just winning wars, its about whose story wins and if China s power
spreads throughout Asia then ultimately power lies with them.

Researchers have taken the Y chromosome of higher primates including humans, and great apes

that the X and Y chromosomes recombine only at the pseudo autosomal region (PAR), which is
located at the tip of one arm of X and Y chromosome respectively (Wimmer et al., 2005). They
have also discovered that due to lack of recombination the Y chromosome goes through, there is a
specific point in the genewhere mutations accumulate (MSY) in almost all primates (Wimmer et

Evidence supports that most likely, with male extinction comes primate extinction. This is because
crucial maternal genes are sometimes activated through males on their Y chromosomes (Marvan et
al., 2005). But there is still a possibility, as the loss of the Y chromosome after relocation of the
SRY gene might prove successful for humans. However, evidence shows that when a Y
chromosome becomes functionless species are readily capable to adapt to male less conditions
(Marvan et al., 2005). Studies of the Y chromosome have shown the importance of mapping out its
evolutionary history in order to better understand why the Y chromosome looks and functions the
way it does. Its divergence outside of the monotremes showed that primates have ancestral Y
chromosome relationships with earlier mammals that independently evolved from other sex
chromosome. Similarly, the variation of male specific genes, such as DAZ, display how significant
the modification of the Y chromosome truly can be. Its susceptibility to evolutionary pressures such
as mutation, genetic drift, and natural selection. a The Y chromosome s potential for being

Track Multi Target As Camera Motion Essay
MCMC particle filter
In this project, it is challenging issue to track multi target as camera motion is unknown. To deal
with this issue and targets occlusion, the camera parameters are calculated and targets were also
tracked within the 3D coordinates [W. Choi] at the same time. To be specific, it is aimed 1) to
solve the multi object tracking issue by using a single non calibrated camera, [W. Choi] 2). to deal
with complicated scenes in which multiple pedestrians are moving and occluding each other [W.
Choi] at the same time, 3). to calculate the 2D/3D trajectories within the camera reference system
[W. Choi].
The important task in this project was to calculate camera parameters (such as camera pose and
focal length of a camera) and track objects such as pedestrians as they move in the scene [W.
Choi]. Tracks are helpful in calculating the parameters of a camera by using their velocity and
scale within the image plane; simultaneously, camera parameters can help to follow objects very
robustly as previous important information is available. This enables to calculate object 3D
trajectories in the reference system of a camera. The author used a simplified camera model which
allows finding a powerful compact relationship between the variables such as camera parameters
and target, with the help of projection constraints of a camera. The identification of a handful of
feature tracks which associated with the static background allows adding extra constraints to the
camera

An Explanation of the British s Stuggles to Finance the...
The article written by Javier Cuenca Esteban, The British balance of payments, 1772 1820: India
transfers and war finance focuses on the British ability to finance the wars with Napoleonic France.
Esteban challenges the academic state of debate regarding the importance of exports on British
Industrialization by pointing out that he believes without the exports from India, Britain would
have struggled to finance her wars with France and may have never become the incubator of
Industrialization. His argument comes back to the numbers he presents projecting the gap between
foreign indebtedness actual and counterfactual would increase from 1802 to 1815 by over ninety

Esteban sets the value of his calculations by creating an average of pre existing calculations for
the earliest time frame of 1772 1775 of net British debts. He relies mainly on figures derived from
Walter Nash and Albert H. Imlah, both of which are Economic British Historians. The author then
begins to advance each line according to their own specific histories. For instance he takes into
account the raise of tariffs on certain products such as tobacco that would affect the quantity of
illegal imports, thus affecting the real credit value. The author also goes into great detail to
compensate for the stated inaccuracies of some numbers, by showing how numbers counter
balance one another to give an accurate final account of net credits. In the appendix he goes into
great depth to explain each category as well as giving a price evidence for numerous specific
commodities traded between Britain and India during this time period.
Esteban concludes with acknowledging the weaker values for some of the credits. He makes it
clear the entire process of the time period moving from mercantilism to industrialization within the
time frame and the wars with France created extremely complex range of scenarios to explain the
balance of payments. He points out research in the areas of wealthy immigrants transfers and net
incomes, as well as capital flow from the British West Indies remain particularly difficult to
quantify. This gap in

An Evaluation Will Be Made Of Clause 35 Of Afrosa s...
An evaluation will be made of Clause 35 of Afrosa s contract with Foghorn Cars. Accordingly, an
explanation will be made of the legal rules which relate to exclusion clauses with reference to the
Unfair Contract Terms Act 1977 and Sale of Goods Act 1979.
Terms may be implied into a contract in a number of ways. Primarily terms may be implied by
statute. Legislation may be implemented to protect parties where there may be inequality in
bargaining power, such as dealing with companies standard form contracts. An example of such
regulatory legislation is the Sale of Goods Act 1979 (SGA 1979) particularly sections 12 15 which
govern seller implied terms. Afrosa is dealing with Foghorn Cars standard form contract.
Section 2(1) SGA 1979 outlines that Afrosa s contract with Foghorn Cars is governed by the act
as it is a contract by which the Foghorn Cars has agreed to transfer property, that is, vehicles for
a price paid by Afrosa. Sections 13 and 14 SGA 1979 imply terms which are particularly
relevant. Section 13(1) relates to sale by description and stipulates that the goods sold must
correspond to the description in the contract. There is no evidence in the facts to suggest that
Foghorn Cars drew Afrosa s attention to any defects in the goods. Therefore there should be no
reason for the goods to be defective regardless of the timeframe involved. Section 14(2) relates to
the quality of the goods sold and stipulates that the goods must be of satisfactory quality . Despite

Nature Vs. Nurture By Francis Galton
You inherit your environment just as much as your genes. (Rich, 2015) In 1869, the phrase nature
vs. nurture was coined by an English polymath named Francis Galton. There are two sides to this
debate, each with their own pros and con s. Nature is the side that argues that the DNA and
genotype humans are born with determines who they are and what personality and traits they will
have throughout their lifetime. Whereas the nurture side of the debate argues that humans are born
with sponges as minds, and through interactions and experiences while we grow, the knowledge
and understanding of life is gained and this is how our personalities are sculpted. Many people
have studied this debate through multiple schools of thoughts; each with their own arguments to
which side they believe prevails. Yet, to this day, there is no proof to say which side of the debate
if correct. Based on the psychological, sociological, and epigenetic schools of though, it can be
validated that when it comes to the nature vs. nurture debate, nurture will always prevail and
remain most relevant. The basic assumption of psychologists in correlation to nurture is that the
mind is a blank slate, or tabula rasa (Locke, 1689) during infancy, and continues to absorb new
information as the environmentchanges with the child. There are multiple disciplines within the
psychological school of thought that become very relevant when studying nurture. For starters,
cognitive psychologystates that mental

The Prince Of Machiavelli s Prince
When evaluating the political leaders in modern times there is one leader that wields his power the
most like Niccolo Machiavelli s Prince, from his book The Prince, that leader is President Vladimir
Putin of the Russian Federation. Although, Putin does not hold the title of Prince, he has held
influential positions throughout the years, i.e. Prime Minister and Acting President, that hold
power similar to the Prince. Every position that Putin has held in Russia he has acted as if he were
a Prince. Putin has held such all consuming control and influence over Russia that some would say
that Putin is the state , a position that Machiavelli strongly suggest that all Princes should have.
Although, there are infinite examples showing Putin acting similar to Machiavelli s Prince
throughout the years, the current interaction between Syria and Russia exemplifies Putin s
similarity to Machiavelli s Prince. In the interaction between Russia and Syria, Putin mostly
resembles the trait of the Prince that Machiavelli describe in chapters 14, 18, and 21 In chapter 14
of Machiavelli s The Prince Machiavelli explains how a prince should act when dealing with
military affairs. Machiavelli says that the Prince should be the head of the military, the Prince
should know all things military, and the Prince should always be pursuing military advances

Shadow of the Night
Shadow of the Night
On a freezing, dark blue night of Li, in the Village of Li Marta. This was an old little village, the
houses were nothing but ash and rubble except an old abandoned barn. The barn had creaking floor
boards and a rotten wooden roof.
In this abandoned barn there lived a young and confident farm boy; his clothes were ragged and
full of holes. The young boy was called Rye named after the agricultural god Ren Rye.
As Rye was sitting on the creaking floor boards a thought hit him, he remembered something his
mother told him, be strong like an ox! Suddenly a gang of raiders came down from the north
came to torch the village to ashes. A horn blew. It was the raider chieftain Kai Tai s way of
terrifying the villagers. Outside the Barn two raiders were battering through the barn door, then
Rye s mother said hide, son! Hide in the rafters! from his hiding place Rye saw the doomed doors
explode into a shower of splinters and he saw his mother being dragged away.
Rye remembered those horrendous moments. In frustration he would kick a stone for no purpose or
reason. His father fought till his last breath and defending Rye, valiantly clutching his pitchfork.
Rye had woken up from that dreadful nightmare, he was now somewhere unfamiliar a dark, dark
place, where there was no light. It was the spirit realm of Gahem a quiet but deadly realm to stay
in. Suddenly out of the darkness a shadow appeared the shadow had black clothing and a dark
purple hood, this

Anger Is A Universal Emotion
Anger is a universal emotion. It might make you act out and throw something, or it might boil up
inside you until you blow up on some innocent person simply asking a question. How every person
reacts to anger is different, some people may deal with anger more efficiently than others: like
counseling, therapy or by taking medication that mainly focuses on depression or anxiety which
fuels anger. People often wonder if they have anger problems and if it s genetic. Not many know
what part of the brain anger comes from, or what triggers it. Red often symbolizes anger,
because blood is red and so is fire, both associated with anger. Anger is hard to control, and it may
not be your fault for controlling it due to genetics of anger. Thanks to science, studies have given
us bits and pieces to the puzzle we have before us concerning anger.
Being Raised in an Angry Environment
The part of the brain that controls emotions including anger, occur in the amygdala. Science has
shown that adolescences use their amygdala s for decision making more than adults, who use
their frontal lobes. The reason people have anger can be from stress, abuse, finances, social or
family issues. Factors like substance abuse and being raised by or with people with anger issues
can affect ones way of dealing with and levels of anger.
The Brain and Anger
Anger naturally triggers the fight/flight response, which mentally and physically prepares the body
for survival. During the flight/flight response, the

Target Holdings Ltd V Redferns
INTRODUCTION
After Lord Browne Wilkinson s judgment in Target Holdings Ltd v Redferns, the principles of
equitable remedy for breach of trust had remained muddled due to academic criticism of His
Lordship s judgment. It was not until the Supreme Court decision in AIB Group v Mark Reddler
that it would be a backward step [...] to depart from Lord Browne Wilkinson s fundamental
analysis that His Lordship s judgment was clarified, and the principles of equitable unriddled. One
of the scholars that contributed to the confusion prior to AIB was Professor Charles Mitchell, by
declaring that,
Lord Browne Wilkinson took a false step in Target when he introduced an inapt causation

Lord Toulson started his impressive judgment in AIB by declaring the stitching together of equity
and the common law continues to cause problems at the seams. Whereas Lord Browne Wilkinson
followed McLachlin J s non fusionist approach in Canson, Lord Toulson preferred a fusionist
approach in AIB, contending, the extent of equitable compensation should be the same as if
damages for breach of contract were sought at common law.
Scholars pointed out that fusing equitable and legal remedies is somewhat undefined because
there is no clear set of legal remedies remedies. Therefore, what is meant by fusion is that the same
remedies should apply when equity and common law wrongs are effectively the same. Lord
Neuberger contends that simplicity and clarity of the judicial system is his mission statement for
the UK Supreme Court, whereas Lord Millet disagrees with fusion. Although there are two
opposing views among scholars and the judiciary, AIB interprets Target to support fusion of
equitable and legal

The Success Of A Student Essay
Results: Ultimately, this cycle culminated in a better understanding of, and connection with, my
students. I felt that this cycle helped me to foster the gradual independence that the school
encourages in its students, as we could then collaborate together on problems and recognise
successes. Perhaps most importantly, the interest and focus I was able to show each student
made the students feel valued and to be more motivated. The students also seemed to
demonstrate greater understanding of themselves as learners; for example, the student who was
struggling with maths expressed a desire to continue tracking his progress independently. It is
important to note that in that case I have the advantage of only working with a class of 6
currently, and I may not be able to use this technique as effectively with a larger class, though I
could surely use some variation of it. Though I did have a strong knowledge of students,
particularly due to the small size of my class, having a detailed record to which to refer and
create feedback helped to deepen this understanding and the quality of feedback. (reference)

Perfectionism in its Adaptive form is often seen as a compliment in reference to diligence and the
pursuit of excellence. But the Maladaptive (or neurotic) form is a destructive, dysfunctional type of
persistent perfectionism, which is ultimately damaging both to the perfectionist and to those closest

Consumer Rights And Consumer Strengths
CONSUMER RIGHTS AND CONSUMER MYTHS A CRITICAL STUDY
ABSTRACT
Consumer right is the right to have information or the right to know about the potency, quality,
quantity, price, purity and standard of goods and services. The consumers should be protected from
unfair trade practices. It is very important and mandatory for the consumers to know their rights. If
they know their rights properly then they can be saved from exploitation from the shop keepers. To
safeguard the consumers and their rights the Consumer Protection Act of 1986 has been introduced.
It ensures correct information to the consumers and fair competition in the market. But on the
other side consumers are also exploited. Many people are cheated by low quality or duplicate
products but people do not claim for it. Nowadays we are not able to find the duplicate and original
products. There are many consumer rights but there are some facts and myths too. Most of the
people are not aware of their consumer rights and who to complain once any of the rights are
infringed. Though consumer rights are provided with each and every consumer should be aware of
the products which they buy. On the one side consumers are protected by their rights on the other
side consumers are being cheated by attractive advertisements, guarantees, warranty etc.

The Molarity Of The Sucrose To Find The Osmotic Potential...
The aim of this experiment was to use the molarity of the sucrose to the find the osmotic potential
of the potato.
Most of the results of the experiment show that as the molarity of sucrose in the solution increases,
the percent change in mass of the potato decreases. This is due to osmosis, water moves from a
higher water concentration area to a lower water concentration area. From the results table, one can
see that the mass of potato in the 0.1M sucrose solution increased by 13%, and the mass decreased
by 28% in the 1.0M sucrose solution.
The results supported the hypothesis that the osmotic potential of potato would be somewhere that
intermediates between a dilute solution and concentrated solution. When the change in mass of the

Everyday, throughout the world, restaurants throw away large amounts of uneaten food. Public
Health laws prevent them from re serving or reusing this food, and, for similar reasons, they cannot
simply give it away to hungry people. We opted to review this as our messy situation due to the
impact that this has on people and the environment.
Response and Revision
The issue of food waste could be improved should all restaurants and food services participate in a
composting program. Having an effective composting program would help reduce solid waste
disposal fees and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
An educational campaign should be launched to inform and encourage new behaviors. All
consumers should be shown the benefit of composting versus traditional disposal methods. Once
consumers have been properly educated, encouraging participation is key. This would include
providing a composting method for waste to be properly composted. The food recycling program
would provide the means for all associates to begin composting donations rather than disposing
via trash receptacles. Food compost bins should be provided in any food service industry to allow
for proper disposal of waste. Companies should locate composting facilities and begin distributing
food waste to said facilities rather than traditional trash disposal services. If possible and practical,
companies should work to create their own composting stations.
True success will be measured when all food service companies send their food materials for
composting. As output is measured, immediate improvement cannot be expected, but steady and
sustained increases in the amount of food waste sent to compost is expected. Tonnage is the most
consistent way to measure improvement.
There is also the important element of rewarding improved behaviors. Companies should provide
composting initiatives to their employees. Companies can be rewarded with government incentives
for implementation and maintenance of the composting problems.
As a case study for success, consider Middlebury College in

Lamuel Gulliver Essays
Lamuel Gulliver
Jonathan Swift is one of the best known satirists in the history of literature. When one reads his
works, especially something like Gulliver s Travels, it is easy for one to spot the misanthropic
themes, which emerge within his characterization. Lamuel Gulliver is an excellent protagonist: a
keen observer, and a good representative of his native England, but one who loses faith in mankind
as his story progresses. He ends up in remote areas of the world all by accidents in his voyages. In
each trip, he is shipwrecked and mysteriously arrives to lands never before seen by men. This forms
an interesting rhythm in the novel: as Gulliver is given more and more responsibility, he tends to be

Gulliver is a good representative of England, but one who loses faith in mankind as the story
progresses. The visit to Brobdingnag accounts for most of this misery, where he attempts to
preserve his dignity as an English man. Gulliver becomes exactly the controversial figure of what
he was in Lilliput. In this case, the Brobdingnagians remain peaceful with him, yet he is prideful.
The flag of Gulliver s homeland, England, on the coat of arms illustrates pride.
Yet due to his pride for his native England, in the country of the Houyhnhnms, Gulliver is
gradually driven mad by his realization that he can never hope to achieve the state of existence of
the supremely rational, noble Houyhnhnms. Even though the Houyhnhnms consider Gulliver to be
noble, Gulliver is constantly offended when he sees a disturbing resemblance between himself
and the barbaric Yahoos. He falls to the same sin of pride that he condemned in the others in
previous voyages. He is disgusted that the members of his own human race are living a filthy
lifestyle such as the animals of England, and this makes him eager to return to home, where he
thinks things are normal. Therefore, a rat ready to enter its hole represents Gulliver forced to return
to England because of his fear that he will eventually turn barbaric.
The essential rhythm the author has interwoven in all the four of Gulliver s

Barbie Doll Alternate Ending
Head Less You are so pretty, my best friend said, while we were walking to my mom s car. Thank
you so much, you are always so nice to me. So what are we gonna play when we come home? I
asked. Oh, I know, she said. She looked at me, I looked at her. Barbie dolls, we said at the same
time. When we came home, we threw our backpacks on the floor, and ran upstairs. Come on, I
yelled. I am right behind you, my best friend said. When we came to my room, we grabbed the
barbie doll box, and threw all the barbie dolls on the floor. I looked at all the pretty barbie dolls,
trying to pick the best one. There it is, I thought to myself. The barbie doll with the long, blond
hair was lying on the floor next to all the other barbie doll. I looked at it for a second, thinking that

I looked at the barbie doll. Oh no, I said, the barbie doll s head fell off when we were pulled. That
is why we both were holding the barbie doll. She was holding the body, and I has held the head.
What happened, my friend asked. I didn t know what to say, so I just laughed. She laughed too.
We laughed for such a long time. When we stopped laughing, I tried to fix the barbie doll, but I

  • 2. Comparison Of Adam Bede And Goblin Market Comparing George Eliot s Adam Bede and Christina Rossetti s Goblin Market George Eliot s Adam Bede offers a realistic and highly detailed look into the everyday life of ordinary people in rural Treddleston. Although the characters are fictional, several of them are based upon people Eliot knew or knew of, which adds to the realism. As she delightedly observes and describes the intricacies of the natural, ordinary world, Eliot pays attention to human nature, applying keen psychological insight to characters thoughts, choices, and actions. Eliot seems to understand that certain people are a certain way, and she encourages her reader to gently evaluate, rather than hastily judge, both her characters and people in general. Within the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Eliot describes the problem with physical attractiveness, the kind that renders Hetty susceptible to vanity, self centredness, and ultimately, poor choices. Beautiful, kitten like Hetty is so caught up in her appearance and in the way she is certain others perceive her that she is barely affected by the serious and often grave situations others are experiencing. In fact, after discovering that Adam s father had died, Hetty was thinking a great deal more of the looks Captain Donnithorne had cast at her than of Adam and his troubles (Eliot 96). It is not that Hetty is deliberately cruel or uncaring, but admiring glances from a handsome young gentleman, with white hands...and wealth and grandeur immeasurable...set poor Hetty s heart vibrating, and playing its little foolish tunes over and over again (Eliot 96). Eliot, though clearly disapproving of Hetty s foolish vanity, nonetheless encourages her reader to be understanding of the young girl. She directly addresses the reader as she accounts for Hetty s self centredness: We must learn to accommodate ourselves to the discovery that some of those commonly fashioned instruments called human souls have only a very limited range of music, and will not vibrate in the least under a touch that fills others with tremulous rapture or quivering agony. (Eliot 96) Hetty is lacking in the very area Eliot ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. The Household Circle Of India 1.The household circle in France and that of India display numerous similarities. However, it may be that such is the case in most countries where families are kept together. In India, distant relatives like grandparents and cousins either settle collectively or maintain a near distance if living separately. Indians are not as likely as Americans to relocate away from their families and, when it is economically possible, prefer to stay in the same geographic area. Though it seems that the French differentiate from that of my own culture due to that fact that they maintain relations with those of the enlarged household till the third or fourth generation. Also, on page 60 Au Contraire mentions that the extended kinsfolk gather together for a Sunday lunch. This is generally not seen in India as members of the lengthened household may reside adjacent to each other, but do not meet as often as the French. Nonetheless, as an Indian American, my society maintains most of the aspects of the Indian community and a little of the typical American culture. The French concept of the state of a young adult is similar to my cultural structure due to the fact that the youth gravitate to stay nearby parents until marriage in order to remain under their watchful eye and to refrain from an involvement of morally disliked activities. Similarly, as mentioned on page 60 of the book Au Contraire, in France, children attend universities in close proximity to their homes and lean to disapprove of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Admission Essay I write to express my interest in the tenure track appointment in guitar at the assistant or associate professor level beginning fall 2018 at the Arizona State University School of Music. While I have taught at a number of institutions, my position at Georgia State University (GSU) has offered the greatest opportunities for professional growth. Consequently, my discussion of professional activities will focus primarily on the work I have done in connection with GSU starting in 2012. In this time I have revitalized a failing guitar program, reinstated its MM performance degree, and created a guitar chair position within the Georgia Music Educators Association (GMEA) while holding two to three part time positions and maintaining an active... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I have taught Brazilian, Mexican, Chinese, Indian, and Pakistani students, among other nationalities, and have experience working with special needs students. Because the GSU SOM offers degrees in Music Performance, Music Education, Music Composition, Music Technology, and Music Management, all of these majors may be in the studio at one time, each with different lesson and degree requirements. Provided students are able to apply themselves and accept my high expectations, I am excited to have them and their variety of perspectives and experiences in the studio. My most impactful endeavor at GSU is the reinstatement of the Master of Music in Guitar Performance degree which was deactivated in 2000. In the spring of 2015, with the support of the GSU SOM interim director, I submitted a proposal for reinstatement. The proposal had the honor of being fast tracked by upper level administration and passed all college and university level committees by December 2015. Following reinstatement at the university level, I worked closely with my director/dean and graduate coordinator in successfully petitioning NASM for accreditation. The MM in Guitar Performance degree accepted students fall 2016 and I was granted a graduate assistant to aid with teaching and administrative duties. There ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Analysis Of John Was An American Comic Book Artist John was an American comic book artist known for his work with EC Comic on Two Fisted Tales and Frontline Combat, Marvel Comics on war and western comics, and a 45 year stint with the magazine Cracked. He was also one of the founding artists of Mad in 1952. Severin was insucted into the Will Eisner Award Hall of Fame in 2003 before passing away in 2012. Severin s strongest aspects of this piece are framing, line work, and detail. The framing is successful with the archway in the foreground of the environment. This black arch frames the whole piece. Within the arch, the skeletons create a secondary framing device, calling attention to the men on the stains. The immense detail in the skeletons allow them to work with the top arch ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The black placement is almost nonexistent except for inside the building in the background. This pulls the viewer to this spot, which is rather unimportant in the image, while the focus should be on the woman. This piece successfully utilizes hatching, black placement, and has reproduced a character who is identifiable. The hatching in the cloak of the character shows directionality without becoming too complicated can being distracting. The black placement in the cloak weights the character provides ground for him and the mailbox to sit on. The reproduction of a character is sometimes difficult to achieve without matching a certain style. Severin successfully achieves drawing Bilbo Baggins and having him recognizable, despite the name on the mail box to push recognition. The weakest aspect of the piece is acting. Bilbo is stiff, and white he is in the act of taking the mail out of the mailbox, he breaks the fourth wall by looking at the viewer. It would be more successful acting if he was looking at the action he was performing. The strongest aspect of this piece is line direction. In the water they encircle the action, and in the rocks they lead the viewer down into the water. They also aid in the creation of texture, rhythm, pattern, and framing. The texture created by the lines in the water reflect ripples that would actually occur in the real world. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Jean Piagets Theory Throughout history, many people have made many contributions to the school of psychology. One individual is that of Jean Piaget and his theories on the cognitive development stages. Jean Piaget was born in Neuchatel, Switzerland, where he studied at the university and received a doctorate in biology at the age of 22. Following college he became very interested in psychology and began to research and studies of the subject. The stage of concrete operations is so named because in this period children operate and act on the concrete, real, and perceivable world of objects and events. Egocentric thought is replaced by operational thought, which involves dealing with a wide array of information outside the child. Therefore, children can now see things from someone else s perspective. Children in this stage begin to use limited logical thought and processes and are able to order and group things in classes on the basis of common characteristics. The child is able to reason and to follow rules and regulations. They are able to regulate themselves , and they begin to develop a moral sense and a code of values. Conservation is the ability to recognize that, although the shape of objects may change, the mass and amount stay the same. For example, if you put the same amount of liquid in two containers the child may think there is more in the taller cylinder. Children also begin to understand reversibility, which is the capacity to understand the relationship between things. They begin to realize that one thing can turn into another and back again. The most important sign that children are still in the preoperational stage is that they have not achieved conservation or reversibility. Dealing with ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. If Beale Street Could Talk by James Baldwin and John... Andrew Bernstein, an author and professor of philosophy, once said, Nothing is given to man on earth struggle is built into the nature of life, and conflict is possible the hero is the man who lets no obstacle prevent him from pursuing the values he has chosen. Although many people transform into someone they are not and forget what they believe in during challenging times, the true man fights to remain loyal to his morals in the toughest of times. Martin Luther King, Jr. s quote about the true neighbor exposing his real character and virtue in times of challenge and controversy is revealed in James Baldwin s novel If Beale Street Could Talk and John Steinbecks novel The Grapes of Wrath. In Baldwin s novel, Mr. Hayward sticks to his principles in a time of controversy as he risks his reputation for the good of others; in Steinbeck s novel, Jim Casy sacrifices his life for the welfare of others, while refusing to give up his beliefs. As readers witness characters remaining true to themselves during hardships, as well as risking a part of themselves to benefit others, they are reminded through the powerful messages in literature to be cautious of their own reactions to distress and obstacles. In If Beale Street Could Talk, Baldwin reveals that the character in this case, Mr. Hayward who remains honest to himself and risks his/her reputation for others portrays the true neighbor. For one thing, Mr. Hayward, the lawyer, refuses to accept the racial stereotypes ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. The Never Ending Israel-Palestine Peace Talks Essay The news of people dying and suffering, killings of women and children, and bombings by terrorists and militaries, has undoubtedly grabbed the world s attention towards the Israel Palestine conflict. While Palestinian children scream for their dead parents, the world s leaders and academics initiated a frantic debate, trying hard to point out the real cause and viable solutions for the current situation. This has led to many peace initiatives by the international community that were unfortunately a devastating failure. This deadlock had left leaders and supporters of both sides blaming each other for their stubbornness, in some cases elevating the unrest in Israeland Palestine (Reynolds). In this agreement, Israel promised the Palestinians that they would withdraw from part of the Palestinian land. The Oslo Agreement aimed on putting an end to decades of confrontation and conflict and recognizing both sides have legitimate and political rights . Unfortunately, the agreement failed due to lack of implementation and cooperation from both Israelis and Palestinians (Reynolds). Subsequently, in the year 2000, Camp David was organized by Bill Clinton in his effort to address the final issues of the Oslo Agreement which were boarders, Jerusalem and refugees. In this peace talk, the Palestinians were represented by Arafat while the Israelis were represented by Barak. Arafat and Barak failed to agree in the talk as the maximum Barak could offer was less than the minimum Arafat would accept (Reynolds). Subsequent peace talks after Camp David also faced similar problems. Israel s Perspective on the Issue. In order for us to comprehend why Israel is reluctant to fulfill Palestine s demands in peace talks, it is essential that we observe the connection Israelis have with the Palestinian land. The duel occurred as a result of the Major having a love affair with the Baron s wife six years ago, and was revealed through the previous love letters that had been discovered in the wife s sewing table. WГјllersdorf, a lawyer and friend to the Baron, was immediately summoned to deliver the challenge of the duel and to act as a second in the affair (Fontane Chapter 27 ). Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Being considered a coward is the true insults to male honour that men including Innstetten felt if he did not provoke a duel. Likewise, the challenged party such as Crampas would feel equally obliged to accept the duel; otherwise he would infinitely suffer the criticism from the larger society (Frevent 176). The Baron was quick to notify WГјllersdorf with a note regarding the affair, which he should have controlled his emotions (Fontane Chapter 27 ). Even when WГјllersdorf had vowed to keep silent of the affair, Innstetten not wanting to be the object of his sympathy, considered it too late to undo the dueling request (Fontane Chapter 27 ). He took his pride seriously, and was convinced that duel was the only solution even when his happiness was at stake (Fontane Chapter 27 ). James Bond Personality Traits James Bond has been around since 1962, and 26 movies later, his image is still going strong of the extremely handsome and covert agent that saves the day, and always gets a pretty lady/Bond Girl, at some point of the movie, to himself. Skyfall incorporated all these traits that make 007 (another name James Bondgoes by) who he is. Skyfall is a Bond movie that describes his comeback to MI6 (his secret agency) after being off the radar for a long amount of time. All of that changes though when the villain is staring her in the face with a gun pointed to her head. M knew right there she was powerless to what happened next. Only one person in Skyfall has the power to save her, and that is her ace in the hole 007. After a shootout at the court house, Bond and M are going to go to the one place Bond knows better than his enemy, and that is home. On the way there, M says Too many people are dying because of me, showing that she truly leave the situation in Bond s hands because she would never say something like this if she could find her own way out. This speaks to the masculinity and power Bond has in these situations. At Skyfall, even then you see a male dominated fighting plan, as Bond and his housekeeper are both equipped with shot guns while M is given equipped with any resources she can find. When then fight begins M kills two people total and Bond s housekeeper kills four, with Bond mowing down the rest. Bond even completely exploded the house after the three had gotten out (nothing is more masculine than an explosion). • 13. The Importance Of Group Communication At Cyberbullying The opportunity to do the group project helped put all of the readings and lectures into perspective regarding group communication. Cyberbullying can be an intense topic, with people having different experiences with it. It is also an extremely complex issue with a lot of gray areas and unknown factors when considering prevention and response. Due to the nature of the topic of cyberbullying, being able to establish a group process as outlined in class readings and lectures as quickly as possible would be beneficial. In order to have tough conversations and to brainstorm efficiently, there must be clear group standards to have the most productive conversation possible. Through knowledge about groups, awareness of the explicit and implicit components of them, and the ability to avoid negative group practices allowed our group to thrive. When group two first met, no one sat at the head of the table, but rather along the sides. One student explicitly stated, Who wants to take the head chair and be the leader? The lack of nonverbal leadership led to a few moments of slightly awkward silence as the group questioned who should initiate the conversation. According to Burgoon s theory of proxemics, the fact that no one sat at the head of the table completely threw off the traditional dynamics that are usually seen in groups. In addition, everyone sat in one chair away from one another, keeping the space personal, but not closer than 18 or so. This highlights what was found with ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

To deal with this issue and targets occlusion, the camera parameters are calculated and targets were also tracked within the 3D coordinates [W. Choi] at the same time. To be specific, it is aimed 1) to solve the multi object tracking issue by using a single non calibrated camera, [W. Choi] 2). to deal with complicated scenes in which multiple pedestrians are moving and occluding each other [W. Choi] at the same time, 3). to calculate the 2D/3D trajectories within the camera reference system [W. Choi]. The important task in this project was to calculate camera parameters (such as camera pose and focal length of a camera) and track objects such as pedestrians as they move in the scene [W. Choi]. Tracks are helpful in calculating the parameters of a camera by using their velocity and scale within the image plane; simultaneously, camera parameters can help to follow objects very robustly as previous important information is available. This enables to calculate object 3D trajectories in the reference system of a camera. The author used a simplified camera model which allows finding a powerful compact relationship between the variables such as camera parameters and target, with the help of projection constraints of a camera. The identification of a handful of feature tracks which associated with the static background allows adding extra constraints to the camera ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

He relies mainly on figures derived from Walter Nash and Albert H. Imlah, both of which are Economic British Historians. The author then begins to advance each line according to their own specific histories. For instance he takes into account the raise of tariffs on certain products such as tobacco that would affect the quantity of illegal imports, thus affecting the real credit value. The author also goes into great detail to compensate for the stated inaccuracies of some numbers, by showing how numbers counter balance one another to give an accurate final account of net credits. In the appendix he goes into great depth to explain each category as well as giving a price evidence for numerous specific commodities traded between Britain and India during this time period. Accordingly, an explanation will be made of the legal rules which relate to exclusion clauses with reference to the Unfair Contract Terms Act 1977 and Sale of Goods Act 1979. Terms may be implied into a contract in a number of ways. Primarily terms may be implied by statute. Legislation may be implemented to protect parties where there may be inequality in bargaining power, such as dealing with companies standard form contracts. An example of such regulatory legislation is the Sale of Goods Act 1979 (SGA 1979) particularly sections 12 15 which govern seller implied terms. Afrosa is dealing with Foghorn Cars standard form contract. Section 2(1) SGA 1979 outlines that Afrosa s contract with Foghorn Cars is governed by the act as it is a contract by which the Foghorn Cars has agreed to transfer property, that is, vehicles for a price paid by Afrosa. Sections 13 and 14 SGA 1979 imply terms which are particularly relevant. Section 13(1) relates to sale by description and stipulates that the goods sold must correspond to the description in the contract. • 40. Nature Vs. Nurture By Francis Galton You inherit your environment just as much as your genes. (Rich, 2015) In 1869, the phrase nature vs. nurture was coined by an English polymath named Francis Galton. There are two sides to this debate, each with their own pros and con s. Nature is the side that argues that the DNA and genotype humans are born with determines who they are and what personality and traits they will have throughout their lifetime. Whereas the nurture side of the debate argues that humans are born with sponges as minds, and through interactions and experiences while we grow, the knowledge and understanding of life is gained and this is how our personalities are sculpted. Many people have studied this debate through multiple schools of thoughts; each with their own arguments to which side they believe prevails. Yet, to this day, there is no proof to say which side of the debate if correct. Based on the psychological, sociological, and epigenetic schools of though, it can be validated that when it comes to the nature vs. nurture debate, nurture will always prevail and remain most relevant. The basic assumption of psychologists in correlation to nurture is that the mind is a blank slate, or tabula rasa (Locke, 1689) during infancy, and continues to absorb new information as the environmentchanges with the child. There are multiple disciplines within the psychological school of thought that become very relevant when studying nurture. For starters, cognitive psychologystates that mental ... • 41. The Prince Of Machiavelli s Prince When evaluating the political leaders in modern times there is one leader that wields his power the most like Niccolo Machiavelli s Prince, from his book The Prince, that leader is President Vladimir Putin of the Russian Federation. Although, Putin does not hold the title of Prince, he has held influential positions throughout the years, i.e. Prime Minister and Acting President, that hold power similar to the Prince. Every position that Putin has held in Russia he has acted as if he were a Prince. Putin has held such all consuming control and influence over Russia that some would say that Putin is the state , a position that Machiavelli strongly suggest that all Princes should have. Although, there are infinite examples showing Putin acting similar to Machiavelli s Prince throughout the years, the current interaction between Syria and Russia exemplifies Putin s similarity to Machiavelli s Prince. In the interaction between Russia and Syria, Putin mostly resembles the trait of the Prince that Machiavelli describe in chapters 14, 18, and 21 In chapter 14 of Machiavelli s The Prince Machiavelli explains how a prince should act when dealing with military affairs. Machiavelli says that the Prince should be the head of the military, the Prince should know all things military, and the Prince should always be pursuing military advances (Machiavelli Chapter 14). This was an old little village, the houses were nothing but ash and rubble except an old abandoned barn. The barn had creaking floor boards and a rotten wooden roof. In this abandoned barn there lived a young and confident farm boy; his clothes were ragged and full of holes. The young boy was called Rye named after the agricultural god Ren Rye. As Rye was sitting on the creaking floor boards a thought hit him, he remembered something his mother told him, be strong like an ox! Suddenly a gang of raiders came down from the north came to torch the village to ashes. A horn blew. It was the raider chieftain Kai Tai s way of terrifying the villagers. Outside the Barn two raiders were battering through the barn door, then Rye s mother said hide, son! Hide in the rafters! from his hiding place Rye saw the doomed doors explode into a shower of splinters and he saw his mother being dragged away. Rye remembered those horrendous moments. In frustration he would kick a stone for no purpose or reason. His father fought till his last breath and defending Rye, valiantly clutching his pitchfork. Rye had woken up from that dreadful nightmare, he was now somewhere unfamiliar a dark, dark place, where there was no light. It was the spirit realm of Gahem a quiet but deadly realm to stay in. • 46. Anger Is A Universal Emotion Anger is a universal emotion. It might make you act out and throw something, or it might boil up inside you until you blow up on some innocent person simply asking a question. How every person reacts to anger is different, some people may deal with anger more efficiently than others: like counseling, therapy or by taking medication that mainly focuses on depression or anxiety which fuels anger. People often wonder if they have anger problems and if it s genetic. Not many know what part of the brain anger comes from, or what triggers it. Red often symbolizes anger, because blood is red and so is fire, both associated with anger. Anger is hard to control, and it may not be your fault for controlling it due to genetics of anger. Thanks to science, studies have given us bits and pieces to the puzzle we have before us concerning anger. Being Raised in an Angry Environment The part of the brain that controls emotions including anger, occur in the amygdala. Science has shown that adolescences use their amygdala s for decision making more than adults, who use their frontal lobes. The reason people have anger can be from stress, abuse, finances, social or family issues. Factors like substance abuse and being raised by or with people with anger issues can affect ones way of dealing with and levels of anger. Target Holdings Ltd V Redferns INTRODUCTION After Lord Browne Wilkinson s judgment in Target Holdings Ltd v Redferns, the principles of equitable remedy for breach of trust had remained muddled due to academic criticism of His Lordship s judgment. It was not until the Supreme Court decision in AIB Group v Mark Reddler that it would be a backward step [...] to depart from Lord Browne Wilkinson s fundamental analysis that His Lordship s judgment was clarified, and the principles of equitable unriddled. Whereas Lord Browne Wilkinson followed McLachlin J s non fusionist approach in Canson, Lord Toulson preferred a fusionist approach in AIB, contending, the extent of equitable compensation should be the same as if damages for breach of contract were sought at common law. Scholars pointed out that fusing equitable and legal remedies is somewhat undefined because there is no clear set of legal remedies remedies. Therefore, what is meant by fusion is that the same remedies should apply when equity and common law wrongs are effectively the same. Lord Neuberger contends that simplicity and clarity of the judicial system is his mission statement for the UK Supreme Court, whereas Lord Millet disagrees with fusion. I felt that this cycle helped me to foster the gradual independence that the school encourages in its students, as we could then collaborate together on problems and recognise successes. Perhaps most importantly, the interest and focus I was able to show each student made the students feel valued and to be more motivated. The students also seemed to demonstrate greater understanding of themselves as learners; for example, the student who was struggling with maths expressed a desire to continue tracking his progress independently. It is important to note that in that case I have the advantage of only working with a class of 6 currently, and I may not be able to use this technique as effectively with a larger class, though I could surely use some variation of it. Though I did have a strong knowledge of students, particularly due to the small size of my class, having a detailed record to which to refer and create feedback helped to deepen this understanding and the quality of feedback. Most of the results of the experiment show that as the molarity of sucrose in the solution increases, the percent change in mass of the potato decreases. This is due to osmosis, water moves from a higher water concentration area to a lower water concentration area. From the results table, one can see that the mass of potato in the 0.1M sucrose solution increased by 13%, and the mass decreased by 28% in the 1.0M sucrose solution. The results supported the hypothesis that the osmotic potential of potato would be somewhere that intermediates between a dilute solution and concentrated solution. An educational campaign should be launched to inform and encourage new behaviors. All consumers should be shown the benefit of composting versus traditional disposal methods. Once consumers have been properly educated, encouraging participation is key. This would include providing a composting method for waste to be properly composted. The food recycling program would provide the means for all associates to begin composting donations rather than disposing via trash receptacles. Food compost bins should be provided in any food service industry to allow for proper disposal of waste. Companies should locate composting facilities and begin distributing food waste to said facilities rather than traditional trash disposal services. If possible and practical, companies should work to create their own composting stations. True success will be measured when all food service companies send their food materials for composting. As output is measured, immediate improvement cannot be expected, but steady and sustained increases in the amount of food waste sent to compost is expected. Tonnage is the most consistent way to measure improvement. There is also the important element of rewarding improved behaviors. Companies should provide composting initiatives to their employees. Companies can be rewarded with government incentives for implementation and maintenance of the composting problems. As a case study for success, consider Middlebury College in ... When one reads his works, especially something like Gulliver s Travels, it is easy for one to spot the misanthropic themes, which emerge within his characterization. Lamuel Gulliver is an excellent protagonist: a keen observer, and a good representative of his native England, but one who loses faith in mankind as his story progresses. He ends up in remote areas of the world all by accidents in his voyages. In each trip, he is shipwrecked and mysteriously arrives to lands never before seen by men. Gulliver is a good representative of England, but one who loses faith in mankind as the story progresses. The visit to Brobdingnag accounts for most of this misery, where he attempts to preserve his dignity as an English man. Gulliver becomes exactly the controversial figure of what he was in Lilliput. In this case, the Brobdingnagians remain peaceful with him, yet he is prideful. The flag of Gulliver s homeland, England, on the coat of arms illustrates pride. Yet due to his pride for his native England, in the country of the Houyhnhnms, Gulliver is gradually driven mad by his realization that he can never hope to achieve the state of existence of the supremely rational, noble Houyhnhnms. Even though the Houyhnhnms consider Gulliver to be noble, Gulliver is constantly offended when he sees a disturbing resemblance between himself and the barbaric Yahoos. He falls to the same sin of pride that he condemned in the others in previous voyages. He is disgusted that the members of his own human race are living a filthy lifestyle such as the animals of England, and this makes him eager to return to home, where he thinks things are normal. Therefore, a rat ready to enter its hole represents Gulliver forced to return to England because of his fear that he will eventually turn barbaric.
