Social Injustice
Social Injustice Speech
Question: How can dancers of color prove their place in the white world of ballet? By definition,
dance is for everyone. But how come we rarely see dancers of color have the lead role or even be
seen on stage? Racial prejudice is still a social issue that impacts society today. For instance
Precious Adams was told to bleach her skin by one of her teachers while studying at the Bolshoi
Ballet Academy. Michaela Deprince overheard one of directors saying we don t put a lot of effort
in the black girls, because they end up getting fat . So how can dancers of color to show others that
they are good enough to be put on stage?
To answer the question, I did research, read articles, as well as watched documentaries. ... Show

As the inspector is looking around, she spots Adams, she steps in front of her and asks What are
you doing here? . Although skinny, Adams is different from the other ballerinas at the academy
Why?, because unlike most of her classmates Adams is black, and is about to graduate in the
spring as one of the first African American ballerinas to finish school, despite the persistent
discrimination at the academy that is used to lighter skin complexions. Why is she one of the
first? Why does it not feel normal for someone to graduate the academy as an African American?
In more than two years at the academy, Adams has been left out of performances because of the
color of her skin, she says, and has been told to try and rub the black off to make her look like what
the directors want for the shows, Why are we compelled to follow the ground rules? Why can t
we choose what can be right, and what is a good idea for a later time?
Another example is the Michaela Deprince incident where at the age the 10 years old, she thought
of quitting dance after a teacher told her mother that she didn t want to put a lot of

Conduct Disorder Research Paper
Conduct disorder is an externalizing childhood disorder and involves a child displaying
behaviors that violate societal norms or other people s own rights. The causes of such deviant and
aggressive behavior may be linked to genetic, neurobiological, psychological, and sociocultural
factors. Some propose that peer influences may also be etiological factors to such disorders. First,
characteristics of aggression are generally more heritable than other delinquent behaviors such as
stealing. It is also suggested that the MAOA gene on the X chromosome responsible for the break
down of certain neurotransmitters is less active in those with conduct disorder. However, studies
show that there is only an increased risk for conduct disorder among children when the
environmental factor of being maltreated co occurs with the decreased MAOA activity.... Show

It is also known that when a child develops a conduct disorder earlier on in childhood, this is
associated with a lower than average IQ in future years of school. Some psychological factors
that may contribute to the development of conduct disorders include the child s moral awareness,
parenting styles, theories based on modeling and operant conditioning, and Dodge s social
cognitive perspective. Sociocultural factors that are likely predisposing factors to conduct
disorders are poor neighborhoods, lack of parental supervision, and hyperactivity. It should be
noted that ethnicity does not increase a child s risk, but poor neighborhoods that tend to be heavily
populated by minorities do. Finally, peer influences such as being rejected by peers or interacting
with like minded peers can be predictive of a conduct

War on Drugs Essay examples
I. Thesis and Literature Summary In our contemporary society, the media constantly bombards
us with horror stories about drugs like crack cocaine. From them, and probably from no other
source, we learn that crack is immediately addictive in every case, we learn that it causes
corruption, crazed violence, and almost always leads to death. The government tells us that we
are busy fighting a war on drugs and so it gives us various iconic models to despise and detest :
we learn to stereotype inner city minorities as being of drug infested wastelands and we learn to
witchhunt drug users within our own communities under the belief that they represent moral sin
and pure evil. I believe that these titles and ideals are preposterous... Show more content on

They assert that the government has invested considerably in studies whose results could be used
to wage the perennial war on drugs while to politicians, that war has amounted to nothing more
than a perceptual war on poverty and urban crime. Since politicians have had little else of
marketable interest to debate over the years, this aggressive attack on drugs has existed as one of
their only colorful means by which to create debate, controversy, and campaign fuel. In other words,
when balancing the budget and maintaining an effective foreign policy became two boring to
handle, Reinarman and Levine assert that the crack epidemic became the focus of politicians with
the intent of luring public interest to their flashy anti drug campaigns. Finally, in addition to the
media s excess attention on the war against drugs, Reinarman and Levine make the point the
constant coverage of crack in the news media has only been counterproductive to the alleged goals
of any anti drug program. With descriptions of the crack high that glorify it considerably the
politically charged media campaigns to fight drugs have worked somewhat ironically as huge
advertising campaigns for crack increasing public awareness and stimulating the interests of
venturous junkies. II. Application of Theoretical Framework While Reinarman and Levine are

APPRAISAL OF THE ECONOMIC IMPLICATION OF ELECTRONIC BANKING IN NIGERIA
BANKS (A CASE STUDY OF DIAMOND BANK PLC NIGERIA)
CHAPTER ONE
1.1BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY Before the emergence of modern banking system, banking
operation was manually done which lead to a slow down in settlement of transactions. This manual
system involves posting transactions from one ledger to another which human handles. Figures or
counting of money which should be done through computers or electronic machine were computed
and counted manually which were not 100% accurate thereby resulting to human errors. Most bank
then use only one computer in carrying out transactions which ameliorate the sluggish nature of
banking ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Adoption of electronic banking which suppose to ease banking transactions rather resulted to
woes to customer. Most people complain of time wasted in banks. This occurs when there is
power failure in banks resulting to slow down in operation. Another problem that emerged was that
banks do not have information backup to fall back on should there be any computer break down.
In investing in electronic banking, the country will need a large amount of financial resources in
computer technology, obviously, the resource is in short supply in Nigeria, couple with high level
of poverty. For an efficient functioning of electronic payment system, there must be availability of
infrastructural facilities such as electricity and telecommunication network, however, power supply
fluctuates and there is still constant failure links in networks. Since early 2000s banks have been
developing and introducing payment cards for their customers as well as deploy ATM s cards.
Usage was however low due to lack of interconnectivity i.e. switching platform to interconnect the
ATM s for card holders.
1.3OBJECTIVES OF THE STUDY This research work intends to assess the extent of electronic
payment in banking activities as well as identify the various types of electronic banking. The
researcher will also evaluate the major problems associated with the development of

Essay about Influenza Vaccines
Influenza is an infectious illness that can be spread from one individual to the next. It can be
transmitted by means of saliva, nasal secretions, feces and blood. It can also be spread by coming
in contact with the virus on contaminated surfaces. Influenza is responsible for an average of
36,000 deaths and for more than 226,000 hospitalizations each year in the United States. (Davidson,
2007 2009, Davis, 2007).
Influenza viruses are divided into three classes. These are A, B, and C. Influenza A and B are
blamed for the increases in hospitalization and deaths each year. The aim of receiving an annual
vaccine is to prevent spreading infections. Since flu outbreaks vary, it is recommended that
individuals receive a vaccination for the flu ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Additionally, as many as 500,000 chicken eggs per day are needed for the process. Influenza
viruses are injected into chicken egg embryos, where they are allowed to incubate and multiply for
several days. A machine extracts the virus from the egg, which is then purified and chemically
killed and made into the vaccine. (Tenpenny, 2008, Davidson, 2007 2009, Offit, 2008).
It takes about eight months for the vaccines to be developed using chicken eggs. If another
pandemic were to arise, we would not have access to the vaccines for at least eight months.
Moreover, once the vaccines are made, they must be used. Vaccines that are not used cannot be
stored and must be destroyed because the vaccines break down. The vaccines do include the three
influenza viruses; two against different strains of type A, and one against the type B virus.
(Tenpenny, 2008, Davidson, 2007 2009, Offit, 2008).
In late spring 2009, the World Health Organization labeled the swine flu a pandemic. In October
2009, President Barack Obama declared a state of emergency when over 1,000 Americans, as
well as nearly a hundred children, had died as a result of the swine flu. Unfortunately, we also
faced a shortage of vaccines to deal with the outbreak. Responding to the flu outbreak was also
slow. In April 2009, the United States federal government authorized production of the swine flu
vaccine. Based on prior growth patterns of seasonal flu vaccines, it projected that 120 million doses

The Importance Of Stagflation In The United States
3.) Stagflation Stagflation is a slowdown in the economy, which can include high unemployment
and this is paired up with high levels of inflation. It is significant because the economy is
basically stuck. The middle class also tends to shrink in these periods because people loose the
ability to have spending money. This is somewhat going on now with rising gas and food prices.
5.) Patriot Act The law is intended to help government agencies detect and prevent possible acts of
terrorism, or sponsorship of terrorist groups. The U.S Pariot Act permits the government to
scrutinize peoples reading habits by monitoring public library and bookstore records, without
notifying the suspect. It also allows for sneak and peak tactics such as physical search of property
and computers, wiretapping and monitoring of email, and access to financial and educational
records, without providing notification.

Free Will
The Concept of Free Will Free will is the ability to make your choices in life without having any
consequences. We may feel the existence of free will until we start thinking and then figure out
there really is not. Thus, free will is nothing other than just an illusion. The moment a person is
born, they are confined to a land of law, a set biological makeup, and environmental factors that
are beyond their control. Hence, human beings do not have free will and ultimate responsibilities
thus the punishment for their misdeeds are not justifiable. A human can very well do what he
wants, but cannot will what he wants. Einstein. We, people, consider ourselves as a free being as

Hence, we are not responsible for our misdeeds as we do not have free will. Let us take an
example of a computer system. Computers do not have its user makes free will and all its
choices. For instance, the computer you just bought spending lot of money is affected by a
virus that duplicates your file and makes it accessible to other users within the network. Would
you shut it down and put it in your basement for its misdeed holding it responsible or take it to
the technician and get it fixed? Another thing to question would be, if one should be punished for
misdeeds if they are mentally ill. People that are mentally ill do not have the capability of
functioning in the society like most other people do. This is due to impairments of the brain that
is way beyond anyone s control. In some court cases, this disability is highly considered. If the
criminal does not have the free will to perform these misdeeds, how can they be held accountable

My diversity experience began on November 12, 2016 in Wilmington, North Carolina at the

Jamaicans residing in various parts of the United States, particularly in New York, Florida, and
Georgia (Atlanta). Prior to searching for an authentic Jamaican restaurant, I decided that I needed
to do some research regarding the culture of Jamaica; and, as a result of my research, I discovered
that the culture of Jamaica is quite interesting to learn about. In fact, Jamaica is a mountainous

Persuasive Essay On Cloning A Horse
Ever since the first cloned animal, Dolly the sheep, in 1996 the argument has arose that if cloning
a human is appropriate. Not only is there an argument for human cloning but, in the past couple
years there has been many debates on whether it is right or wrong to clone a horse. Cloning refers
to the process of creating genetically similar organisms or the production of organisms that are
genetically identical through the transfer of somatic cells of an existing organism and transferring
it to an oocyte where the nucleus has been extracted. To clone a horse means using the DNA from
a donor horse to produce a genetically identical foal. Thus, the question is asked why would
someone need to clone a horse? When there is a horse that shows exceptional talent, in particularly

Although the stallion may never need to compete but can serve as a stud and then pass on the
DNA of the original horse. However, there has been many debates on whether cloning is morally
correct or is healthy for the new horse, but equally as important to the equine industry is the
current debate over the fact that cloned horses are not allowed to be registered in the American
Quarter Horse Association (AQHA) database. To some horse owners or buyers registration of a
horse is highly important, because it adds value to a horse and it s important for breeding
purposes. Also registration is important for the use of tracking a horse, wether it is to track the
age of the horse, to gain knowledge of the horse s relatives or their performance history. Although
this all depends on personal preference. If a horse is not registered that does not mean the horse is
worthless or untalented, this just means that the horse can not participate in AQHA horse shows,
which are very prestigious. However, the the opposing sides argument is that by allowing the

Producing sustainable competitive advantage through the effective management of people*
Jeffrey Pfeffer
Executive Overview
Achieving competitive success through people involves fundamentally altering how we think about
the workforce and the employment relationship. It means achieving success by working with
people, not by replacing them or limiting the scope of their activities. It entails seeing the
workforce as a source of strategic advantage, not just as a cost ... Show more content on

The point here is not to throw out conventional strategic analysis based on industrial economics but
simply to note that the source of competitive advantage has always shifted over time. What these
five successful firms tend to have in common is that for their sustained advantage, they rely not on
technology, patents, or strategic position, but on how they manage their workforce.
The Importance of the Workforce and How
It is Managed
As other sources of competitive success have become less important, what remains as a crucial,
differentiating factor is the organization, its employees, and how they work. Consider, for instance,
Southwest Airlines, whose stock had the best return from 1972 to 1992. It certainly did not achieve
that success from economies of scale. In
1992, Southwest had revenues of $1.31 billion and a mere 2.6% of the U.S. passenger market.4
People
Express, by contrast, achieved $1 billion in revenues after only 3 years of operation, not the almost
20 it took Southwest. Southwest exists not because of regulated or protected markets but in spite of
them. During the first three years of its history, no
Southwest planes were flown. 5 Southwest waged a battle for its very existence with competitors
who sought to keep it from flying at all and, failing that, made sure it did not fly out of the newly
constructed Dallas Fort Worth international airport.
Instead, it was restricted to operating out of the

Throughout time, one of the greatest challenges mankind has faced is the sexual conquest of
womankind. In many cultures today, this challenge has evolved into an intricate courting process
that often involves buying the woman flowers, gifts, and meals to persuade her to have sex.
Another device that a man might use to seduce a woman is poetry. In the English language, the use
of poetry to seduce women may be traced back to the late sixteenth and early seventeenth centuries.

Thus, Herrick, Donne, and Marvell s consistent poetic reliance upon logical rhetoric, first person
plural narration, and imperative, interrogative, and conditional statements signifies the veritable
influence of these devices to convince women to have sex in late sixteenth and early seventeenth
century England.
While Herrick s famous Corinna s Going A Maying depends primarily on imperative statements, it
also features logical rhetoric and first person plural narration. Likewise, the overpowering ingredient
in Donne s Eligy XIX: To His Mistress Going to Bed is also the imperative statement, although he
also includes a dash of logic and interrogation. Similarly, Donne arranges interrogative statements,
logical reasoning, and first person plural narration into The Good Morrow. Marvell s To His Coy
Mistress is particularly unique in its ample use of conditional statements in combination with other
devices. To reiterate, the recurrence of literary elements in seduction poetry around the late
sixteenth and early seventeenth centuries in England clearly demonstrates their persuasive impact
upon women of the time.

Red Blood Cell Is An Essential Treatment For Patients With...
Red Blood Cell (RBC) transfusion is an essential treatment for patients with the Sickle Cell Disease
(SCD). Alloimmunization to RBC antigens has remained a challenge due to the difference in
antigen prevalence, such as in the case of people of African origin and those of white descendent do
not have a similar antigen prevalence. The presence of RH heterogeneity leads to alteration of the
representation of the Rh antigen on a patient s RBC hence increasing chances of alloimmunization.
To be able to counter this, methods such as pre transfusion determination of extended Rh (CcEe)
and K antigen phenotypes and RBC phenotyping by hemagglutination have been attempted. RBC
phenotyping by hemagglutination has been the gold standard, but is labor intensive and hindered
by subjectivity in interpreting agglutination reactions and transcription errors when manually
transcribing results. Testing is also limited by lack of reagents for a number of clinically significant
antigens.
10 DNA based assays targeting single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) associated with blood
group antigen expression offer an alternative. 11 14 Genotyping method provide information on
RBC antigens for which standardized serologic typing reagents are not available and are responsive
to high throughput testing with computerized interpretation. RBC antigen phenotypes determined
by single nucleotide polymorphism analysis was compared with serologic testing for 13 routinely

with menstrual dysfunction often display low levels of the reproductive hormones estrogen and

The purchasing process involves the use of purchasing systems which provide ways for firms and
companies to purchase and acquire goods and services at the best prices and at optimum terms.
Purchasing Information Systems are used in decision making at different levels as tools for
planning, analyzing, monitoring and controlling the business operations. These systems can be use
for various functions like invoice management, ordering of orders automatically, management of

The systems are to be installed in the Starshine Electronics Company.
The following is a diagram explaining the various steps involved in the purchasing process. The
first step involved is to identify the need for certain goods. These can be in form of raw materials
or equipments. The need must be felt and identified before taking any step to purchase the product.
For example, Starshine Electronics may want to offer transport as an after sale services to their
customers. In order to do this, a vehicle is required. The need of this vehicle is then identified and
the first step in purchasing the product is put into action.
The second step involves selecting the specific type of product that Starshine Electronics desires to
purchase according to their needs. There are various types of products that can be used to do a
given function and hence there is need to decide the product that suits you better. For example,
there are many types of vehicles in the market from different manufacturers and hence Starshine
Electronics should decide on the best model from a particular manufacturer to order. After selecting
the product, a purchase team needs to be appointed or selected. The formation of the team helps
greatly in the management of the purchase process through conducting research, analyzing the
findings and planning on the necessary technical specifications for the product and the process
involved in purchasing the product. Research about the product

Essay on Arts of the Contact Zone by Mary Louise Pratt
Arts of the Contact Zone by Mary Louise Pratt
In the Arts of the Contact Zone, Mary Louise Pratt has tried to explain the concepts of the contact
zone , which she referred to as the space of colonial encounters . This social space that she speaks
about is a stage where disparate cultures meet, clash, and grapple each other, often in highly
asymmetrical relations of domination and subordination . Pratt aims to highlight these relations
between the colonizer and the colonized in terms of copresence, interaction, interlocking
understandings and practices . There often are conflicts of views and ideas; the very concept of
existence maybe apprehended differently by the two involved subjects in the contact zone .The

Britain, at the time, was a growing nation in possession of the techniques, organization, and energy
which would enable her to become a world power. She was in the midst of a political, social and
economical transformation. Britain s transformation was of great importance to the development of
new attitudes towards India.
The designs of the English became more imperial and their attitude more haughty and aloof
(George,44). The social gulf that existed between the diplomatic pundits and the English scholars
began to widen. The attitude of the average Englishman changed from one of disapproval of Hindu
superstitions and Mussalman bigotry and of philosophic and cultural interest in Hindu mythology,
and of historical curiosity in Moguhal domination; into one of contempt for an inferior and
conquered people (George, 44). The English had developed from the pettifogging traders
quarreling over their seats in church, to imperial swashbucklers and large scale extortionists
(Spear, 23). The British no longer relished the ways of commerce; their appetites , instead were
whetted by conquest and prospects of plunder.
With the death of the Mughal Emperor, Aurangzib, saw the disintegration of the Mughal Empire.
This left the country in a situation of political unrest and uncertainty. The British had an

Teens and Minimum Legal Drinking Age (MLDA) Essay
Introduction
For many years, underage drinking in America has been a very controversial topic. However,
because of the many discrepancies that some US state representatives have added to the federal
underage law, this subject will hardly be solved or going away, anytime soon. Proponents argue
The current underage drinking law of 21, has not stopped teen drinking, and has instead pushed
underage binge drinking into private and less controlled environments, leading to more health and
life endangering behavior by teens (ProCon, 2012, para. 2).
Therefore, the minimum legal drinking age for teens should be lowered from 21, to 18. On the
other hand, Opponents of lowering the MLDA argue that teens have not yet reached an age where ...

The strongest reasons in favor of Proponents: If teens are responsible enough to serve in the
military, then why are they not responsible enough to drink alcohol? Opponents contend that: (1)
Lowering the MLDA will see an increase in injuries and death resulting from car crashes; (2)
Long term alcohol abuse causes serious health problems in teens when compared to teens that do
not drink alcohol; and, (3) Teens that drink alcohol are involved in a higher rate of assaults than
teens that do not drink alcohol. Opponents also argue that teens who abuse alcohol: (4) Are more
apt to commit suicide, than teens who do not abuse alcohol; (5) Are involved in a significant
amount of non vehicular homicides, than teens that do not drink alcohol; (6) Have a higher chance
of being sexually and physically abused by friends and strangers than non drinking teens.
Strongest argument in favor of Opposition is that, traffic fatalities decreased when the MLDA
increased (ProCon, 2012). I maintain for this argument that: Although MLDA does not effectively
prevent teens from drinking alcohol or from drinking in inappropriate locations, it does however set
the legal standard that allows for accountability for the risky and dangerous behaviors that are often
associated with underage drinking.

What Is The Meaning Of Hassan s Redemption Song
Every man got the right to decide his own destiny. A legendary reggae musician and singer, Bob
Marley, once wrote in his song called, Redemption Song , this song shows that one s fate can only
be decided by self choice. Bob Marley wrote and published this song just before his death at age 36,
from cancer. Bob Marleywrote this song almost as a departure, knowing that the end was near. This
song represents his attempts at redemption towards his past. A loss within, forces redemption to
come into play, to gain back what was lost in the beginning. This holds true for the Cleveland
Cavaliers. The Cleveland Cavaliers thought they had it all, but in the end, they lost to the Golden
State Warriors in the NBA Finals. Now, the Cavaliers

Adapting to a Long Term Care Facility Essay
The character Dorothy said in The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, there is no place like home (Baum,
1960, p. 45). Sadly, many of our elderly live in Long Term Care Facilities (LTCF). The transition
from living in their own homes, to living in a LTCF, can be a traumatic experience. Poor
adaptation to a LTCF may cause depression, malnutrition and significantly reduce the lifespan of
the elder. Thus, it is imperative, that nurse s recognize this promptly. According to Agnes and
Guralnik (2008) adaptation is a gradual change in behavior to conform to the prevailing cultural
pattern (p. 15). When elders are placed in a LTCF, whether it be voluntarily or involuntarily, they
must give up certain liberties that are taken for granted. This... Show more content on

160). She goes on to say that adaptation to a LTCF is the process by which someone copes with
the transition into the life of being a LTCF client (p.159). How the elders view their situation
also plays a major role on their adaptation to the LTCF. When someone views the environment in
an absolute negative way, they are going to struggle to become adapted. On the other hand, if
they look at the positives of the environment they may adapt more appropriately. According to
Sister Callista Roy s theory, adaptation is the process and outcome of individuals and groups,
who use conscious awareness, self reflection and choice to create human and environmental
integration (Bergland and Kirkevold, 2006, p.686). This theory lends to adaptation of living in a
LTCF by examining a key issue, the elders choice. With personal experience in this matter, it
seems as if elders who make the decision of moving into a LTCF better adapt to the environment.
In my opinion, a lot of how elders adapt to living in a LTCF depends on the choices they make. If
they sit around, and think poor pitiful me, they will have a much harder time adapting to their new
environment. If the elder becomes engaged in their new environment, they will adapt more
efficiently. As Parker (2013) mentioned, she stays heavily involved in activities that the LTCF
provides, but also performs a multitude of other activities in her apartment

Ethical Cases Of The Ford Pinto
In 1978 a tragic automobile accident occurred on U.S. Highway 33 in Elkhart county, Indiana
involving a 1973 Ford Pinto that killed three teenagers. The Pinto they were driving was hit from
behind by a van which ruptured the vehicle s gas tank engulfing the car in flames. This provoked
the Elkhart County prosecutor to push for a criminal homicide charge against Ford Motor Company
. This trial was big and would affect many American businesses in concerns of corporate
responsibility and product liability.
Even though this was the first criminal case against Ford Motor Company it doesn t mean these
were the first people to lose their lives. There had been hundreds of people who either burned to
death or were left scared and disfigured in similar accidents involving the Pinto. Ford Motor
Company knowingly sold an unsafe car to their customers and paid out millions to settle law suits
for damages out of court. They also spent many more millions lobbying against Federal Motor
Vehicle Safety Standard 301. They fought against this standard until they felt it was profitable to
make the change to the Pinto design which was determined by their cost benefit analysis. This to
me was not a wise ethical decision as it would eventually ruin the company s reputation as well as
the lives of people involved.
During this 20 week trial Judge Staffeldt advised the jury that Ford Motor Company should only be
found guilty if it could be proven the company had committed plain, conscious

The Increment of the Proportion of Nurses with a...
Recommendations The fourth recommendation suggests the increment of the proportion of
nurses with a baccalaureate degree to 80% by 2020. In this way, it is fundamental to note that
such an increase is likely to impact extensively on the performance of nurses and the general
efficiency of the nursing profession. An increase of such nurses to 80% would certainly mean
that the care and duty normally provided by the nurses will certainly improve. Considering that
most nurses only hold diploma certificates as the basis for their service, an increase in degrees
will mean that more nurses will have learnt more about the nursing profession. In this regard, their
performance would be expected to increase drastically. In the same way, the government will
certainly be forced to chuck out more money in paying the nurses since the increase in the level of
qualifications for the nurses would have to be accompanied by an increase in their salaries and
wages. On the other hand, it is presumed that such an increase in the number of nurses with degrees
might negatively affect the nursing profession in case the nurses are not sufficiently paid. Most of
them would thereby opt to offer their services in the private sector in case the government is
unwilling to remunerate them effectively. When more nurses get the degrees, they will operate
with a lot of commitment and dedication owing to the increase in their salaries and wages. By
doubling the number of nurses with a doctorate would

Tale Heart is suffering homicidal mental illness. He may also be suffering from schizophrenia, and a
person with schizophrenia is more likely to commit violent crimes. People who have mental

Edgar Wright Hot Fuzz and Shaun of the Dead By Brearna Sandri
Shaun of the Dead
In this close viewing I will be using the films Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz, directed by Edgar
Wright, to show significant aspects/techniques of different scenes used in both films. I will be
focusing on the features of sound effects, dialogue and comparing near same scenes within two
different films and the aspects that Edgar Wright was trying to cover.
Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz both have fence jumping scenes. In Shaun of the Dead, the
scene is opened with Shaun opening the gate quite forcefully along with the rest of his team.
Shaun says The Winchester s just over there and David says in a sarcastic tone, Just over there
behind the 20 garden fences? When David is saying the last bit of his sentence the camera pans
over the fences in which they have to jump to show audiences what they have to jump over. For
example, to show why David is being sarcastic towards Shaun, and why it s being used in that
particular scene, Shaun then says What s the matter, David? Never taken a shortcut before? , and
smirks while turning behind, and tries to jump over the fence but ends up making the fence fall
over. He then picks himself back up and subtly tries to make it seem like he didn t just break the
fence. The background noise in this scene is filled with car alarms, house alarms and deep music
/sound effects. This creates the effect of a crisis situation, as they are in a zombie apocalypse.

Kill A Mockingbird By Harper Lee Essay
The way that people understand their circumstances and surroundings is often directly correlated to
the way they perceive the world around them. An adult understands much more around him than a
child does because of the mature, more knowledgeable perception he has. Meanwhile, the child,
while not able to fully understand what she sees, often sees more than an adult because of the
knowledge hungry, curious perceptionshe has. In the book To Kill a Mockingbird, the characters
range in gender, age, and intelligence. The narrator herself is a young elementary age child. She
is extremely smart for her age, but because of her limited exposure to the world, does not fully
understand the seriousness and danger of the story unfolding around her. While the book To Kill a
Mockingbird covers many controversial topics, perception and the change certain characters
undergo that effects this perception are the key to connecting many of them. One of the main
characters in Too Kill a Mockingbird is Jem. He is Scout s older brother. As the story is told, he
ages, transitioning from a young boy into a teenager. His perception of the world around him
changes vastly as he ages, leaving curiosity behind for a better understanding. At the beginning of
the story, the reader is introduced to the unseen character of Boo Radley. According to the adults
around town, he is a recluse who never leaves his home. However, Jem, Scout, and their friend Dill

The Chinese Film Shaolin Directed By Benny Chan
Buddha be praised, as many monks said after the passing of one s life (Shaolin, 00:03:00). The
Chinese Film Shaolin directed by Benny Chan tells a story of a historical event that was based
on a true story, but warped a little in order to fit the time period of today. Monks are considered
high class in the Chinese clan system, while those of a refugee status are no more than mere pigs
in the eyes of the Warlords. The Shaolin Monasteryis located in the Songshan Mountains in
Dengfeng City, Henan Province of today; similarly, the movie is set in Dengfeng city and at the
monastery. The Shaolin Monastery is a combination of supernatural powers of Buddhismand the

one gets from meditating at this monastery. Martial arts are ways of defense amongst the Asian

Chinese people believed that too much meditation will develop a weak body (Shaolin Temple).
That being said, Benny Chan s use of narrative elements in his movie Shaolin to convey Chinese
culture in the Henan Province represents a similar depiction of what had occurred during the Tang

Just Absolute In The Republic By Plato
I believe that fundamentally, we can all agree that disagreements have become an inevitable
aspect of human nature, which has lasted for millennia. From what I ve observed, this stems from
our ability to perceive things differently especially in how we define, value and categorize certain
aspects of our lives. Although this is not a problem pertaining to simple matters but issues do
arrive with more complex ideas and ideologies. In the Republic by Plato, Socrates asks his friends
to define more complex matters such as just and courage in their own words. There we see a

spheres. Some believe that one sphere should be more highly valued than the other... Show more

The one thing that I love about Clare s writing is that she can create so many different point of

The Perception Of The Human Brain s Brain
The significance of this video s phenomenon is that it assists people learn what kinds of conduct

as mirror neurons (H. C. Sinclair, 2013). It also relates to current human behavior for the reason
that it echoes the modeling or imitation behavior executed by children and adolescents. For
example, individuals that are into Football will get worked up from just watching it due to
similarly reacting to the responses of the actual audience at the game. The reason as to why is
because of the outcome of the human brains premotor cortex initiating its mirror neurons via trying

the simulation of these neurons on a cellular level is fundamental for humans to effectively

The Catcher In The Rye Analysis
In the novel The Catcher in the Rye, JD Salinger tells the story of a teenage boy, Holden
Caulfield, who has just been expelled for failing four out of his five classes, from his third
boarding school, Pencey Prep. Holden, a sixteen year old junior in high school, is transitioning
from being a child to becoming an adult. However, he is struggling to grow up, mostly because of
his very negative and cynical view towards adults and growing up, and seems emotionally stuck in
childhood, unable to develop into a young man. Throughout the book, Holden mentions quite a few
times that his secret goal in life is to be the catcher in the rye , meaning that he wants to catch
children before they fall off the cliff of innocence and childhood into adulthood. In The Catcher in
the Rye, Salinger uses this metaphor, being the savior of childhood innocence , as a symbol
throughout the novel to represent the hardship and painfulness of growing up.
Indeed, Holden tells his little sister, Phoebe, that all he wants to be in life is the catcher in the rye :
That s all I d do all day. I d just be the catcher in the rye and all. I know it s crazy, but that s the only
thing I d really like to be. I know it s crazy (225). In this metaphor, he envisions children playing in
a field of rye, full of joy and innocence. This field is located on a very dangerous cliff, and if a child
were to come too close to the edge of the cliff, Holden would be there to catch and save them, from
falling from

resign (Peukert, 1987; 46). If Wilson s constitutional reforms were to be implemented a
democratic parliament could have been formed (Peukert, 1987; 24). Obviously Germany was
reluctant, at first, to accept all of the responsibility of the war. To add to the attempt of keeping
Germany a War state and its reluctant surrender, Keiser Wilhelm II ordered a last attempt by the
German Naval Fleet to attack. This created a mutiny in Wilhelmshaven on October 28, 1918 and
a sailor s resurrection in Kiel on November 3rd and 4th (Peukert, 1987; 27). The peaceful
revolutionary movement has begun in Germany and the citizens began expressing they wanted a
new government. During the revolution the Weimar Republic was forming and it seemed to be
doing so with little compromise from polar parties. Somehow, the Weimar Constitution was written
and the new government began to practice democracy. Most of Germany, by now, wants to be a
viable part of the world and achieve a better standard of living, the newly formed Weimar Republic
and fragile economy will be tested with the Versailles Treaty. Second, the reparations of the
Versailles Treaty further stalled Germanys attempt at a Democracy by critically maiming its
economy. Germany,

What Are The Positive And Negative Impact Of Immigration...
LESSON 15 Immigration and Urban Growth
Objectives:
Identify which countries most of the immigrants came from and why immigrants flocked to the
United States
Identify the positive and negative impact of immigrants on the United States
Identify the positive and negative traits of American Politics during this time period
Immigrants and America, the Melting Pot begins.
Between 1870 and 1920, about 20 million Europeans immigrated to the United States. Many of
them came from eastern and southern Europe, which had not provided large numbers of
immigrants before. Some, like Jews, fled religious persecution. Other immigrants came to the
United States to escape economic hardship. Many left Europe full of ideas for reform and political
freedom denied to them in the past.
About 200,000 Chinese immigrants came from 1851 to 1883. Many thousand immigrants came
from Japan as well. From 1880 to 1920, about 260,000 immigrants came from the Caribbean.
Many Mexicans immigrated to the United States as well. Many Mexicans became part of the
country when territory was added after the Mexican War. About a million immigrants came from
1910 to 1930 to escape turmoil in Mexico.
Most immigrants traveled by steamship, riding in steerage, the cargo holds below the ship s
waterline. Conditions were cramped, with little light or air and were unclean. Immigrants often
suffered from disease. Immigrants who arrived in New York were processed at Ellis Island. The
process, which took

Essay on Omega Paw Case Study Solution
Case Analysis
Executive Summary:
As the population of cats in North America increases, so does the ownership of them as pets.
Omega Paw s novel and unique litter box, self cleaning with a closed top, has tapped into the
market with customer satisfaction and positive reviews. The company looks forward to reflect this
positivity with an increase in sales and profit levels. Introducing the product in grocery stores would
result in weekly sales of $126,000, highest among other alternatives. With direct and indirect
competition along with the production constraints, Ebert (president) is motivated to break through
these barriers and prolong the growth phase of this product with increased sales and profits.
Problem Statement:

In terms of the business, a booming cat population could attract more companies to introduce
enhanced version of this product in this industry where there are no barriers to entry.
Market and competitive analysis:
There are estimated to be 66 million cats in North America. This estimate has risen by 7 percent
between 1994 and 1996 and is estimated to grown at an annual rate of 4% over next few years.
There has been an uptrend in multiple cat households which is primarily due to the ease of care and
maintenance for cats relative to other pets.
Omega Paw has segmented its market into three divisions. 5% of the cat owners are new or first
time owners while 80% of the owners are experienced. The rest of the 15% are segmented in the
gray zone where owners keep their pets outdoors and therefore only spend on food. Omega Paw
should focus its marketing in the first two segments as those owners are likely to research and
browse information about the best available products for their feline friends. The 80% segment
could be divided more in to smaller segments with pet owners who prefer to use basic traditional
equipment versus owners who are willing to try new products to see if it matches their needs.
Omega Paw faces direct competition from three companies. It has a competitive advantage over
Everclean Self Scoop Litter Box in term of its pricing. However,

Time Capsule History
In 1795 Paul Revere and Samuel Adams placed in the cornerstone of the Massachusetts
Statehouse a time capsule. It was a small box, an inch and a half deep and about half the size of a
piece of printer paper. Two hundred and twenty years pass neighborhoods are built, colleges,
schools, churches; the Civil War, and its draft riots, begin and end. Flight is conquered; the
automatic rifle is invented the typewriter, telegraph, television, and the computer soon follow.
Awash with war, the twentieth century sees the fall of empires, large and small, and the
development of the atomic bomb. The Olympic Games, Watergate, Harry Potter, 9/11. Two and a
quarter centuries after Revere and Adams laid the small box in a stone in the capitol of the 6th state,

It must have caught the plumber by surprise to find a ten pound time capsule from the first years of
the United States. Lodged tightly in stone, it took workers seven hours to remove the box, and
before a special ceremony held for the opening, another four to loosen the screws holding it fast.
Wearing protective gloves, members of the historical society found newspapers, coins, and even a
rectangular silver plate engraved by Revere himself inside the capsule. The contents of the box
were well preserved, and they provided a rare and candid glimpse at our not so distant past. The
Samuel Adams and Paul Revere Time Capsule is to this day the oldest time capsule to have been
discovered in the United States, and since 1795, certainly, the time capsule craze has exploded, and
with good reason.
People have always found the idea of time fascinating. We all want to be here in one way or
another William E. Jarvis states in Time Capsules: A Cultural History. That s why some of us (try
to) freeze ourselves alive to be thawed and revived in the era of our choice. That s why people
construct crypts, time bombs, time capsules, and cornerstone deposits, he goes on to say. To some
degree, all people connect through a fascination with time. What will it be like in the future? What

Okonkwo’s Failures Due to Masculinity
Most men in society do not like to be seen as feminine, so they do whatever they can to prove
their masculinity and overall power. In Chinua Achebe s novel, Things Fall Apart, Okonkwo s
main goal in life is to be as masculine as possible. He does not let anyone drag him down, even if it
means hurting them in the process. In the end, Okonkwo s attempts to be masculine and powerful
highlight his failures as a father, husband, and son.
One specific thing Okonkwo is a failure at is being a father. First of all, his only son, Nwoye, is
a Christian and Okonkwo hates him for that. He sees him as weak and feminine, which all along
has been the exact opposite of his goal as a man in society. Okonkwo has constructed a sense of
gender by ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Okonkwo is a failure in every way as a husband.
Okonkwo is a failure in every way as a son as well. It is learned early on in the book how much
he hates Unoko, his father. Okonkwo s relationship with him is devoid of love and is marked
with disgust because his he is weak and a failure. Whenever someone brings up his name, it gives
him bad thoughts of him and what little he did in his lifetime. Even while his father is dead, he
wants nothing to do with him and pushes away the memories he has of him. Okonkwo hates what
his father is so much that he becomes the exact opposite. He is determined to succeed in whatever
respect his father ha[s] failed ( Things Fall Apart ). With a dad like Unoka, he [does] not have the
start in life which many young men ha[ve]. He neither [inherits] a barn nor a title, nor even a
young wife (Achebe 18). His father is very poor and never has a good harvest, and so during his
entire life, Okonkwo aims to be wealthy and prosperous in comparison. He also wants to be
strong and powerful because of how weak his father is. Okonkwo becomes a famous wrestler
when he is young to prove his point. He acts powerful, too, and shows with brutal force that he is
the head of his household and a great leader, whether that means beating his family or killing a
Christian who tries to change the ways of his society. One more thing he strives to be is masculine

Comparing The Ways Writer Present Doubts, Uncertainties...
Controlled Assessment Alby Joseph
Compare the ways writer present doubts, uncertainties and conflict in the minds of the characters.
Poems are the most simplistic way to express one s feelings and beliefs through writing. Poets
mostly try express love, loss, death, some may speak from their own experience or for the sake of
their characters who tend to be quite sophisticated. They tend to write about these 3 topics
commonly due to the fact that practically everyone has experienced this sort of emotion. Poetry has
existed since man could write, to Aristotle, to Victorian times and now to the present day where it
is internationally used. Poems are now used to promote movements for the benefit of the world,
varying from poverty to the sustainability of the environment; of which most have been
successful due to poetry being able to connect with the reader, even if they are not in the same
situation. However they are still able to feel what their character is feeling and what state of mind
they are in. Poems also tend to be short so that the reader does not loose concentration nor loose the
power of the poem, but instead the poet chooses to write to a short limithowever they choose their
words carefully so that the reader will be intrigued and contemplated the whole way through the
poem however leave the poembeing fascinated.

How Did The Pope Lose His Power
Power is said to be the authority to act. Throughout the years of growth and strong leadership, the
Roman Church began to suffer its grip on the faithfulness of the European people. This downfall
was inevitable due to the strict policies of the Popes that had tremendous power. During the
centuries, the papacy suffered a major decline in authority due to several events and movements.
These include, the incident between King Philip IV and Boniface III, the Great Schism and post
Black Death. In the end, I strongly agree that the Popes power had declined in relation to all the
events and movements that have happened in the past to affect it severely. During the 10th century,
there have been conflict between the Pope and the king for powers. The most... Show more content

In response to all this chaos, Philip accused the Pope of committing crimes against man, nature,
and God. Pope Boniface didn t like the accusation, so he retreated to Avignon. The Pope s
movements of going back to Avignon were a weakness shown because the people of Rome felt
very fearful and anxious with the idea of the Pope overseeing the citizens from a different city.
In the perspective of the people, they didn t believe in the Pope to make wise and crucial
decisions for Rome. Things came to an end when King Philip IV made a powerful order of
denouncing the Pope. Later, King Philip gathered an important council meeting of the Church
and talked about the allegations of Pope Boniface, which includes simony, bribery, and more. To
counterattack King Philip, Boniface came up with a papal bull to banish the king, but it wasn t
enough. The last attack happens when Philip demands an arrest on Boniface, but failed. Finally,
Pope Boniface VIII died as he was viewed as a crude leader by the people of Rome. In fact, many
will say that he abused his powers when he moved in at the Avignon. I think this was one major
event that

Who s To Blame For Titanic Research Paper
Do you know who s to blame for the Titanic? The Titanic was the largest ship, at the time, and it
was also told to be unsinkable. The Titanic belonged to The White Star Cross line, along with her
sisters, Olympic and Britannic. The Titanic hit the iceberg April 14 and went down April 15th.
J.Bruce Ismay is at fault for the sinking of the Titanic. Ismay is at fault because he owned the
Titanic, he left the ship, he declined 48 lifeboats.
For example, he owned the Titanic. In the article it states, Also consider that Ismay owned the
White Star Line, which means he owned the Titanic. Also in the article, If a person owns
something that is used for the public, and it fails in some way, or if death or injury occurs on that
public property, it seems whoever owns it should take some responsibility. In other words, the
Titanic was used for public use, so if it causes injury or death, the owner should be held
responsible. He not only owned it but he had a say in some of the construction. ... Show more

The Dieppe Raid

roughly five thousand were Canadians, landed at the French port of Dieppe in their first major test
of the defence of the German held coastline of Europe since Dunkirk. A combination of over rigid
planning, inadequate communication; lack of supporting firepower; and in the final hour before the
raid, absolute bad luck inflicted on the Allies made the Dieppe raid one of their worst defeats in
World War Two.

A fairly considerable assault fleet was being built up, and although
Combined Operations Headquarters (C.O.H.Q) had experience of small operations employing
infantry landing ships and assault and mechanized landing craft, there were now available also
tank landing craft which had not yet been under fire; and there had been no experience of what
was involved in handling a fleet of all these types in action. At this point the planning for the raid
seemed a purely
British conception without any argument form other Allied force Commanders (Robertson, 72).
For the main assault force, C.O.H.Q called upon the services of the 2nd Canadian Division, under
the command of Major General John Hamilton Roberts. The Canadian government knew its men
were frustrated and demoralized by inactivity, pressured the British government to send them into
action at the earliest opportunity Dieppe (Whitehead, 65). While the Canadians were assembling
and beginning their training in the Isle of Wight, detailed planning was proceeding in London,
under the direction of
Lord Louis Mountbatten, the three Force Commanders, and the General Montgomery. During this
phase the original outline plan was materially altered. The most important change was the mistake
of eliminating the heavy air bombardment. At the same time it was agreed that briefing of the plan

  • 2. Social Injustice Social Injustice Speech Question: How can dancers of color prove their place in the white world of ballet? By definition, dance is for everyone. But how come we rarely see dancers of color have the lead role or even be seen on stage? Racial prejudice is still a social issue that impacts society today. For instance Precious Adams was told to bleach her skin by one of her teachers while studying at the Bolshoi Ballet Academy. Michaela Deprince overheard one of directors saying we don t put a lot of effort in the black girls, because they end up getting fat . So how can dancers of color to show others that they are good enough to be put on stage? To answer the question, I did research, read articles, as well as watched documentaries. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As the inspector is looking around, she spots Adams, she steps in front of her and asks What are you doing here? . Although skinny, Adams is different from the other ballerinas at the academy Why?, because unlike most of her classmates Adams is black, and is about to graduate in the spring as one of the first African American ballerinas to finish school, despite the persistent discrimination at the academy that is used to lighter skin complexions. Why is she one of the first? Why does it not feel normal for someone to graduate the academy as an African American? In more than two years at the academy, Adams has been left out of performances because of the color of her skin, she says, and has been told to try and rub the black off to make her look like what the directors want for the shows, Why are we compelled to follow the ground rules? Why can t we choose what can be right, and what is a good idea for a later time? Another example is the Michaela Deprince incident where at the age the 10 years old, she thought of quitting dance after a teacher told her mother that she didn t want to put a lot of ... • 3. Conduct Disorder Research Paper Conduct disorder is an externalizing childhood disorder and involves a child displaying behaviors that violate societal norms or other people s own rights. The causes of such deviant and aggressive behavior may be linked to genetic, neurobiological, psychological, and sociocultural factors. Some propose that peer influences may also be etiological factors to such disorders. First, characteristics of aggression are generally more heritable than other delinquent behaviors such as stealing. It is also suggested that the MAOA gene on the X chromosome responsible for the break down of certain neurotransmitters is less active in those with conduct disorder. However, studies show that there is only an increased risk for conduct disorder among children when the environmental factor of being maltreated co occurs with the decreased MAOA activity.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is also known that when a child develops a conduct disorder earlier on in childhood, this is associated with a lower than average IQ in future years of school. Some psychological factors that may contribute to the development of conduct disorders include the child s moral awareness, parenting styles, theories based on modeling and operant conditioning, and Dodge s social cognitive perspective. Sociocultural factors that are likely predisposing factors to conduct disorders are poor neighborhoods, lack of parental supervision, and hyperactivity. It should be noted that ethnicity does not increase a child s risk, but poor neighborhoods that tend to be heavily populated by minorities do. Finally, peer influences such as being rejected by peers or interacting with like minded peers can be predictive of a conduct ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. War on Drugs Essay examples I. Thesis and Literature Summary In our contemporary society, the media constantly bombards us with horror stories about drugs like crack cocaine. From them, and probably from no other source, we learn that crack is immediately addictive in every case, we learn that it causes corruption, crazed violence, and almost always leads to death. The government tells us that we are busy fighting a war on drugs and so it gives us various iconic models to despise and detest : we learn to stereotype inner city minorities as being of drug infested wastelands and we learn to witchhunt drug users within our own communities under the belief that they represent moral sin and pure evil. I believe that these titles and ideals are preposterous... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... They assert that the government has invested considerably in studies whose results could be used to wage the perennial war on drugs while to politicians, that war has amounted to nothing more than a perceptual war on poverty and urban crime. Since politicians have had little else of marketable interest to debate over the years, this aggressive attack on drugs has existed as one of their only colorful means by which to create debate, controversy, and campaign fuel. In other words, when balancing the budget and maintaining an effective foreign policy became two boring to handle, Reinarman and Levine assert that the crack epidemic became the focus of politicians with the intent of luring public interest to their flashy anti drug campaigns. Finally, in addition to the media s excess attention on the war against drugs, Reinarman and Levine make the point the constant coverage of crack in the news media has only been counterproductive to the alleged goals of any anti drug program. With descriptions of the crack high that glorify it considerably the politically charged media campaigns to fight drugs have worked somewhat ironically as huge advertising campaigns for crack increasing public awareness and stimulating the interests of venturous junkies. APPRAISAL OF THE ECONOMIC IMPLICATION OF ELECTRONIC BANKING IN NIGERIA BANKS (A CASE STUDY OF DIAMOND BANK PLC NIGERIA) CHAPTER ONE 1.1BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY Before the emergence of modern banking system, banking operation was manually done which lead to a slow down in settlement of transactions. This manual system involves posting transactions from one ledger to another which human handles. Figures or counting of money which should be done through computers or electronic machine were computed and counted manually which were not 100% accurate thereby resulting to human errors. Adoption of electronic banking which suppose to ease banking transactions rather resulted to woes to customer. Most people complain of time wasted in banks. This occurs when there is power failure in banks resulting to slow down in operation. Another problem that emerged was that banks do not have information backup to fall back on should there be any computer break down. In investing in electronic banking, the country will need a large amount of financial resources in computer technology, obviously, the resource is in short supply in Nigeria, couple with high level of poverty. For an efficient functioning of electronic payment system, there must be availability of infrastructural facilities such as electricity and telecommunication network, however, power supply fluctuates and there is still constant failure links in networks. Since early 2000s banks have been developing and introducing payment cards for their customers as well as deploy ATM s cards. Usage was however low due to lack of interconnectivity i.e. switching platform to interconnect the ATM s for card holders. 1.3OBJECTIVES OF THE STUDY This research work intends to assess the extent of electronic payment in banking activities as well as identify the various types of electronic banking. The researcher will also evaluate the major problems associated with the development of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Essay about Influenza Vaccines Influenza is an infectious illness that can be spread from one individual to the next. It can be transmitted by means of saliva, nasal secretions, feces and blood. It can also be spread by coming in contact with the virus on contaminated surfaces. Influenza is responsible for an average of 36,000 deaths and for more than 226,000 hospitalizations each year in the United States. (Davidson, 2007 2009, Davis, 2007). Influenza viruses are divided into three classes. These are A, B, and C. Influenza A and B are blamed for the increases in hospitalization and deaths each year. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Additionally, as many as 500,000 chicken eggs per day are needed for the process. Influenza viruses are injected into chicken egg embryos, where they are allowed to incubate and multiply for several days. A machine extracts the virus from the egg, which is then purified and chemically killed and made into the vaccine. (Tenpenny, 2008, Davidson, 2007 2009, Offit, 2008). It takes about eight months for the vaccines to be developed using chicken eggs. If another pandemic were to arise, we would not have access to the vaccines for at least eight months. Moreover, once the vaccines are made, they must be used. Vaccines that are not used cannot be stored and must be destroyed because the vaccines break down. The vaccines do include the three influenza viruses; two against different strains of type A, and one against the type B virus. (Tenpenny, 2008, Davidson, 2007 2009, Offit, 2008). In late spring 2009, the World Health Organization labeled the swine flu a pandemic. In October 2009, President Barack Obama declared a state of emergency when over 1,000 Americans, as well as nearly a hundred children, had died as a result of the swine flu. Unfortunately, we also faced a shortage of vaccines to deal with the outbreak. Responding to the flu outbreak was also slow. In April 2009, the United States federal government authorized production of the swine flu vaccine. Based on prior growth patterns of seasonal flu vaccines, it projected that 120 million doses ... • 7. The Importance Of Stagflation In The United States 3.) Stagflation Stagflation is a slowdown in the economy, which can include high unemployment and this is paired up with high levels of inflation. It is significant because the economy is basically stuck. The middle class also tends to shrink in these periods because people loose the ability to have spending money. This is somewhat going on now with rising gas and food prices. 5.) The U.S Pariot Act permits the government to scrutinize peoples reading habits by monitoring public library and bookstore records, without notifying the suspect. It also allows for sneak and peak tactics such as physical search of property and computers, wiretapping and monitoring of email, and access to financial and educational records, without providing notification. 6.) • 8. Free Will The Concept of Free Will Free will is the ability to make your choices in life without having any consequences. We may feel the existence of free will until we start thinking and then figure out there really is not. Thus, free will is nothing other than just an illusion. The moment a person is born, they are confined to a land of law, a set biological makeup, and environmental factors that are beyond their control. Hence, human beings do not have free will and ultimate responsibilities thus the punishment for their misdeeds are not justifiable. Would you shut it down and put it in your basement for its misdeed holding it responsible or take it to the technician and get it fixed? Another thing to question would be, if one should be punished for misdeeds if they are mentally ill. People that are mentally ill do not have the capability of functioning in the society like most other people do. This is due to impairments of the brain that is way beyond anyone s control. In some court cases, this disability is highly considered. If the criminal does not have the free will to perform these misdeeds, how can they be held accountable for such wrong ... Also, because there appears to be a large number of Jamaicans residing in various parts of the United States, particularly in New York, Florida, and Georgia (Atlanta). Prior to searching for an authentic Jamaican restaurant, I decided that I needed to do some research regarding the culture of Jamaica; and, as a result of my research, I discovered that the culture of Jamaica is quite interesting to learn about. In addition to dinning, I had the opportunity to briefly talk with a customer who migrated from Jamaica to America six months ago. • 10. Persuasive Essay On Cloning A Horse Ever since the first cloned animal, Dolly the sheep, in 1996 the argument has arose that if cloning a human is appropriate. Not only is there an argument for human cloning but, in the past couple years there has been many debates on whether it is right or wrong to clone a horse. Cloning refers to the process of creating genetically similar organisms or the production of organisms that are genetically identical through the transfer of somatic cells of an existing organism and transferring it to an oocyte where the nucleus has been extracted. To clone a horse means using the DNA from a donor horse to produce a genetically identical foal. Thus, the question is asked why would someone need to clone a horse? Although the stallion may never need to compete but can serve as a stud and then pass on the DNA of the original horse. However, there has been many debates on whether cloning is morally correct or is healthy for the new horse, but equally as important to the equine industry is the current debate over the fact that cloned horses are not allowed to be registered in the American Quarter Horse Association (AQHA) database. To some horse owners or buyers registration of a horse is highly important, because it adds value to a horse and it s important for breeding purposes. Also registration is important for the use of tracking a horse, wether it is to track the age of the horse, to gain knowledge of the horse s relatives or their performance history. Although this all depends on personal preference. If a horse is not registered that does not mean the horse is worthless or untalented, this just means that the horse can not participate in AQHA horse shows, which are very prestigious. However, the the opposing sides argument is that by allowing the clones in the breeding register will ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Producing sustainable competitive advantage Essay а®Ѕ Academy of Management Executive, 2005, Vol. 19, No. 4 Reprinted from 1995, Vol. 9, No. 1 ........................................................................................................................................................................ Producing sustainable competitive advantage through the effective management of people* Jeffrey Pfeffer Executive Overview Achieving competitive success through people involves fundamentally altering how we think about the workforce and the employment relationship. It means achieving success by working with people, not by replacing them or limiting the scope of their activities. It entails seeing the workforce as a source of strategic advantage, not just as a cost ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The point here is not to throw out conventional strategic analysis based on industrial economics but simply to note that the source of competitive advantage has always shifted over time. What these five successful firms tend to have in common is that for their sustained advantage, they rely not on technology, patents, or strategic position, but on how they manage their workforce. The Importance of the Workforce and How It is Managed As other sources of competitive success have become less important, what remains as a crucial, differentiating factor is the organization, its employees, and how they work. Consider, for instance, Southwest Airlines, whose stock had the best return from 1972 to 1992. It certainly did not achieve that success from economies of scale. In 1992, Southwest had revenues of $1.31 billion and a mere 2.6% of the U.S. passenger market.4 People Express, by contrast, achieved $1 billion in revenues after only 3 years of operation, not the almost 20 it took Southwest. In many cultures today, this challenge has evolved into an intricate courting process that often involves buying the woman flowers, gifts, and meals to persuade her to have sex. Thus, Herrick, Donne, and Marvell s consistent poetic reliance upon logical rhetoric, first person plural narration, and imperative, interrogative, and conditional statements signifies the veritable influence of these devices to convince women to have sex in late sixteenth and early seventeenth century England. While Herrick s famous Corinna s Going A Maying depends primarily on imperative statements, it also features logical rhetoric and first person plural narration. Likewise, the overpowering ingredient in Donne s Eligy XIX: To His Mistress Going to Bed is also the imperative statement, although he also includes a dash of logic and interrogation. Similarly, Donne arranges interrogative statements, logical reasoning, and first person plural narration into The Good Morrow. Marvell s To His Coy Mistress is particularly unique in its ample use of conditional statements in combination with other devices. To reiterate, the recurrence of literary elements in seduction poetry around the late sixteenth and early seventeenth centuries in England clearly demonstrates their persuasive impact upon women of the time. Alloimmunization to RBC antigens has remained a challenge due to the difference in antigen prevalence, such as in the case of people of African origin and those of white descendent do not have a similar antigen prevalence. The presence of RH heterogeneity leads to alteration of the representation of the Rh antigen on a patient s RBC hence increasing chances of alloimmunization. To be able to counter this, methods such as pre transfusion determination of extended Rh (CcEe) and K antigen phenotypes and RBC phenotyping by hemagglutination have been attempted. RBC phenotyping by hemagglutination has been the gold standard, but is labor intensive and hindered by subjectivity in interpreting agglutination reactions and transcription errors when manually transcribing results. Testing is also limited by lack of reagents for a number of clinically significant antigens. 10 DNA based assays targeting single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) associated with blood group antigen expression offer an alternative. 11 14 Genotyping method provide information on RBC antigens for which standardized serologic typing reagents are not available and are responsive to high throughput testing with computerized interpretation. The designs of the English became more imperial and their attitude more haughty and aloof (George,44). The social gulf that existed between the diplomatic pundits and the English scholars began to widen. The attitude of the average Englishman changed from one of disapproval of Hindu superstitions and Mussalman bigotry and of philosophic and cultural interest in Hindu mythology, and of historical curiosity in Moguhal domination; into one of contempt for an inferior and conquered people (George, 44). The English had developed from the pettifogging traders quarreling over their seats in church, to imperial swashbucklers and large scale extortionists (Spear, 23). Proponents argue The current underage drinking law of 21, has not stopped teen drinking, and has instead pushed underage binge drinking into private and less controlled environments, leading to more health and life endangering behavior by teens (ProCon, 2012, para. 2). Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The strongest reasons in favor of Proponents: If teens are responsible enough to serve in the military, then why are they not responsible enough to drink alcohol? Opponents contend that: (1) Lowering the MLDA will see an increase in injuries and death resulting from car crashes; (2) Long term alcohol abuse causes serious health problems in teens when compared to teens that do not drink alcohol; and, (3) Teens that drink alcohol are involved in a higher rate of assaults than teens that do not drink alcohol. Opponents also argue that teens who abuse alcohol: (4) Are more apt to commit suicide, than teens who do not abuse alcohol; (5) Are involved in a significant amount of non vehicular homicides, than teens that do not drink alcohol; (6) Have a higher chance of being sexually and physically abused by friends and strangers than non drinking teens. Strongest argument in favor of Opposition is that, traffic fatalities decreased when the MLDA increased (ProCon, 2012). She goes on to say that adaptation to a LTCF is the process by which someone copes with the transition into the life of being a LTCF client (p.159). How the elders view their situation also plays a major role on their adaptation to the LTCF. When someone views the environment in an absolute negative way, they are going to struggle to become adapted. On the other hand, if they look at the positives of the environment they may adapt more appropriately. According to Sister Callista Roy s theory, adaptation is the process and outcome of individuals and groups, who use conscious awareness, self reflection and choice to create human and environmental integration (Bergland and Kirkevold, 2006, p.686). This theory lends to adaptation of living in a LTCF by examining a key issue, the elders choice. With personal experience in this matter, it seems as if elders who make the decision of moving into a LTCF better adapt to the environment. In my opinion, a lot of how elders adapt to living in a LTCF depends on the choices they make. If they sit around, and think poor pitiful me, they will have a much harder time adapting to their new environment. In this way, it is fundamental to note that such an increase is likely to impact extensively on the performance of nurses and the general efficiency of the nursing profession. An increase of such nurses to 80% would certainly mean that the care and duty normally provided by the nurses will certainly improve. Considering that most nurses only hold diploma certificates as the basis for their service, an increase in degrees will mean that more nurses will have learnt more about the nursing profession. In this regard, their performance would be expected to increase drastically. In the same way, the government will certainly be forced to chuck out more money in paying the nurses since the increase in the level of qualifications for the nurses would have to be accompanied by an increase in their salaries and wages. On the other hand, it is presumed that such an increase in the number of nurses with degrees might negatively affect the nursing profession in case the nurses are not sufficiently paid. The Chinese Film Shaolin directed by Benny Chan tells a story of a historical event that was based on a true story, but warped a little in order to fit the time period of today. • 38. The Catcher In The Rye Analysis In the novel The Catcher in the Rye, JD Salinger tells the story of a teenage boy, Holden Caulfield, who has just been expelled for failing four out of his five classes, from his third boarding school, Pencey Prep. Holden, a sixteen year old junior in high school, is transitioning from being a child to becoming an adult. However, he is struggling to grow up, mostly because of his very negative and cynical view towards adults and growing up, and seems emotionally stuck in childhood, unable to develop into a young man. Throughout the book, Holden mentions quite a few times that his secret goal in life is to be the catcher in the rye , meaning that he wants to catch children before they fall off the cliff of innocence and childhood into adulthood. In The Catcher in the Rye, Salinger uses this metaphor, being the savior of childhood innocence , as a symbol throughout the novel to represent the hardship and painfulness of growing up. Indeed, Holden tells his little sister, Phoebe, that all he wants to be in life is the catcher in the rye : That s all I d do all day. I d just be the catcher in the rye and all. I know it s crazy, but that s the only thing I d really like to be. I know it s crazy (225). In this metaphor, he envisions children playing in a field of rye, full of joy and innocence. This field is located on a very dangerous cliff, and if a child were to come too close to the edge of the cliff, Holden would be there to catch and save them, from falling from ... Poems are the most simplistic way to express one s feelings and beliefs through writing. Poets mostly try express love, loss, death, some may speak from their own experience or for the sake of their characters who tend to be quite sophisticated. They tend to write about these 3 topics commonly due to the fact that practically everyone has experienced this sort of emotion. Poetry has existed since man could write, to Aristotle, to Victorian times and now to the present day where it is internationally used. Poems are now used to promote movements for the benefit of the world, varying from poverty to the sustainability of the environment; of which most have been successful due to poetry being able to connect with the reader, even if they are not in the same situation.
