Amphetamines Research Paper
The pressures placed on university students to excel, as we all know, is immense. This has managed to
push at least 11% of students, according to a survey done at the university of the Free State, into the
trap of using Amphetamines such as Adderall, Ritalin, Strattera, the generic Methylphenidate and
Concerta, as performance enhancers. Amphetamines are generally prescribed to ease hyperactivity or
aid in calming and concentration in patients. Even when prescribed, these drugs have unpleasant side
effects such as heart palpitations, dehydration and wakefulness. Due to constringent deadlines, social
lives and other commitments, students often find the side effect of wakefulness appealing, with some

Of Mice And Men Theme Analysis
In the novel Of Mice and Men Steinbeck, the author of this novel does a wonderful job creating many
themes. This novel is about two friends named George and Lennie and their journey during the great
depression. Even though Lennie has a disability George is always by his side and they create a
wonderful companionship. Both of them have a dream of owning their own land together and also this
dream tries to help keep Lennie in check. They meet many people during the story that also have
companions and dreams during these rough times. Two major themes that stand out during the novel is
to always follow your dreams and keep your good friends close to you. One theme that Steinbeck
shows a lot during the novel is to never let things get it in your way to follow your dreams. During the
novel, George and Lennie have a dream of owning a farm that they can do whatever they want and
they can call it their own farm. Lennie wants to have ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

lonely ranch worker like the rest of the men. George even says to Lennie Guys like us, that work on

Shipwrecks In Libya Research Paper
At least 239 migrants are believed to have drowned this week in two shipwrecks off the coast of
Libya, the United Nations refugee agency said Thursday, adding to the toll in what was already the
deadliest year on record in the Mediterranean Sea. Survivor accounts suggest that two crowded boats
broke up just off the Libyan coast Wednesday, said Carlotta Sami, spokeswoman for the UN High
Commissioner for Refugees. The 31 survivors were taken to the Italian island of Lampedusa, which
has become a rescue hub amid an ever deadlier crisis as migrants depart Africa s northern shores
trying to reach Europe. The reports from the survivors could not be independently confirmed, but it is
common for migrant ships to be filled far beyond capacity, and hundreds have perished in past
sinkings. If true, the latest shipwrecks bring the toll of dead and missing in the Mediterranean to 4220
this year, the highest on record, Sami said. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Pregnant women and at least six children were on board, survivors told the UNHCR, but no children
were saved in the rescue, which took place about 40km off Libya s coast. One woman lost her 2
month old baby, Sami said, and 12 bodies were recovered. The survivors said they were in the cold
waters for hours before being rescued about 3pm that day. They said more than 140 people were
aboard the boat. Migrants who fell in the water from a crowded rubber dinghy are rescued. Photo /

The Transmission Of Universal And Timeless Issues Through...
An Eternal Prison
The Transmission of Universal and Timeless Issues through Experiences in the Soviet Gulag Camps.
Alexander Solzhenitsyn s novel One Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovich follows exactly as its title
suggests, a day in the life of Ivan Denisovich, a prisoner of the Soviet Gulag camps, and the
tribulations that he and his fellow prisoners encounter in their daily lives. Having personally
experienced the horrific conditions of the Gulag camp system, Alexander Solzhenitsyn wrote the
novel as a means to communicate these horrors to not only the Russian people, but also beyond the
boundaries of the Soviet Union, to the international community. Its stark realism and political
undercurrents shocked many at the time of its publishing, and caused a great amount of controversy in
the Soviet Union (Klimoff xiv). The style in which Solzhenitsyn presents his work transcends the
scope of the novel and its translation into something more sweeping. Although Ivan Denisovich is
rooted in the contextual background of a Soviet Gulag, it is able to relay universal and timeless issues
such as oppression, sense of identity, and the social hierarchy.
The issue of oppression appears throughout the novel as Ivan Denisovich is imprisoned as a traitor as
he had surrendered in order to betray his country and returned from POW camp to carry out a mission
for German intelligence (Solzhenitsyn 69 70), and is sent to the Gulag. The Gulag camp system, were
a series of labour camps created

Godzilla Reflection
The film names Godzilla is what we saw last week and the film began with the nuclear weapon
exploded to the sea. Unfortunately, the boat names Lucky Dragon was near the place where nuclear

Lucky Dragon finally died after the six months. After the nuclear weapon exploded, the Godzilla was
waked by the nuclear weapon and started to attack Japan. Like the William Tsutsui said in his book
that the original Godzilla film (Gojira) was more than just a guy in a rubber suit smashing a model of
Tokyo. Some people argue the movie Godzilla does not have a deep meaning because it copied the
idea of other movies and they just want to make money. In my opinion, I have a different opinion
which agrees with what William Tsutsui said in his book because the film Godzilla shows the anti
nuclear, anti war and also tell people that science s both sides for humans which also reflect the
influence of nuclear.
First of all, the movie has a deep meaning of the anti nuclear which is The time honored story of
Godzilla s genesis begins in the spring of 1954 with Tanaka Tomoyuki. (p14). In 1954, Japan was
attacked by America s nuclear and they were afraid of the nuclear weapon because the Godzilla was
waked by nuclear weapon at that time. Then the Godzilla started to attack Japan for several times and
most of them died from the attack. For example, in the movie that Godzilla waked up in the sea by the
nuclear weapon and started to go to the cities hurt Japanese by using fire and trampling on the
buildings. I still remember that one train drove nearby and then the Godzilla just stepped on the train
and also throws some parts of the train away, many people dead from his attack and restless people
just ran away and show the faces that they are scared. Especially at the end of movie, the person said
If we keep on conducting nuclear tests. It s possible that another Godzilla might appear...Somewhere

will make another Godzilla appears again in the future to hurt people and also showed its meaning

Information And Communication Technologies And The Present...
Abstract:
This paper examines information and communication technologies and the present media background.
The characterizations of media culture are then explored from the insight of new generation, and the
relations between them and ICT are investigated. The dominant educational logic with regard to ICT
is outlined, and different forms of the digital divide are presented. Some global aspects of ICT use
among new generation are reviewed, using both primary and secondary sources. New forms of
modern generation socialization brought about by the coming out of ICT are examined, and the
concluded with a set of recommendations.
Key words: New generations, information communication, technologies

Regardless of the vast multiplicity in living environments, an exceptional and unifying global media
culture has developed that challenges and often places of interest such traditional forms of
socialization as family and school.
This versatile cultural circumstances in which new generation are under pressure to find route in their
lives or simply to survive, to improve their living conditions, and to develop their identities has been
given various names. Some call it the information or informational age, while others prefer the term
techno traditions or techno entrepreneurship, global media culture, or simply globalization, referring
to the dialectic procedure in which the global and the local exist as combined and mutually
implicating principles .(1) Labels such as post industrial, virtual and cyber society are also in use.(2)
The idea behind all these terms is that across the globe, ICT are playing a central role in young people
s lives and in society at large.
Two major assumptions underlie the role of ICT: the first is that the propagation of these technologies
is causing rapid transformations in all areas of life; the second is that ICT function to unify and
standardize culture. It is on the basis of these assumptions that the term media culture , incorporating
the phenomena of informationalism (3) and globalization,
This is about bridging the digital divide, it is therefore important to recall that ICT carry a cultural

The Recession Of The Great Recession
In 2007, the United States economy experienced a financial crisis known as the Great Recession,
which affected much of the world. It officially lasted from December 2007 to June 2009 and all began
with the bursting of an 8 trillion dollar housing bubble. A volatile mixture of financial market chaos
triggered by the housing bubble and low consumer spending left millions of Americans wondering
about their economic fate, the fate of their neighbors, and the fate of the nation.
The Great Recession, from 2007 2009, is the greatest economic downturn since the Great Depression,
from 1929 1939. In spite of its currency, much of the world doesn t know what led up to the Great
Recession, let alone what caused it. This video simplifies the housing crisis and breaks down the key
factors that attributed to the downfall of the financial market. While the recession only lasted two
years, many are still feeling its effects.

Depression vs Recession
The 2008 financial crisis was the worst economic disaster the world had seen since the Great
Depression of 1929. In spite of efforts made by the Federal Reserve and Treasury department to
prevent such a tragic event from occurring, a large portion of the US banking system was fraudulent.
The banks failure took a toll on more than just the financial system it hurt people. People experienced
layoffs, lost pensions, lost retirement funds,

The Pathos Of Failure By Thomas Elsaesser
The Pathos of Failure, is Thomas Elsaesser s diagnosis of an ideological trend that occurred in
mainstream Hollywood in the 1960s 1970s. During this time, the American film industry saw an
unprecedented, revolutionary detour in stylistic experimentation, and thematically, a focus on the
somewhat sentimental gestures of defeat, (Eleasser 234). This shift represented a departure from
Classical Hollywood s idealized vision of America, the films of which reproduced aspects of dominant
American ideology subject to increasing contempt among audiences. Interesting parallels can be
drawn between The Graduate (1967) and The Parallax View (1974) in relation to Elseasser s analysis.
The Pathos of Failure is felt acutely in both films, not only thematically, but also in the craft of the
films themselves: non linear, episodic, unresolved narratives and complex, counter cultural, marginal
male protagonists, whose goals are ill defined and ultimately unattained (Hehr 85). Perhaps the allure
of these films was that they required a degree of critical engagement from the audience, reflected by
wider society s growing cynicism towards American institutions and their basic pillars, (Hehr 31).
There is a certain comfort, I will argue, in honestly acknowledging both internal conflicts and greater
societal defects through the medium of cinema. Where the Classical Hollywood film would typically
offer a solution to the problems established, the Hollywood Renaissance film, via irresolution

The Outlook for Girls In Engineering and Mathematics Essay
areas of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics employers are not getting enough women
(Pozniak). High school girls only represent 17 percent of computer science Advance Placement (AP)
test takers (O Shea). The most significant group of minorities who are behind in earning computer
technology degrees and working in science and mathematical professions are women. Historically,
women s low representation in science and engineering was said to be due in large part of their lack of
ability, interest, or both (Horning 30). However, this is no longer a true fact according to Ward. Some
suggestions to increasing the amount of women in sciences include introducing already present
women faculty as mentors. Over the last three decades, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Xie states that women with children have a much smaller chance to pursue a career in engineering.
These women are less likely to receive a promotion. Gender roles in society demand more of women
in raising children. Differences in marriage and social life can be held responsible for most of the
difficulty that is placed on women in engineering. Interest in science, technology, engineering, and
mathematics (STEM) is thinning for women as they progress into higher levels. Women in grades 7 12
were surveyed to see if their interest in STEM fields were diminishing. According to Van Leuvan, this
survey showed that there was a decline in interest as these girls progress through high school.
Throughout middle school and junior high a love for mathematics can be developed. However, a loss
of interest is present as soon as girls hit more demanding classes like calculus. Grades will highly
diminished and a fear for comprehension of mathematics in the future will develope. According to the
article Women and Minorities in Engineering a major outlook on success from students is their ability
to understand calculus.
Aside from chemistry and physics, a one year calculus sequence is a prerequisite for many
engineering courses (Frehill). Bonsangue and Drew described calculus as the gateway course . They
found that women who demonstrate good performance and persistence in calculus would likely
succeed in engineering. Moreno and Muller s research corroborated

western world dating back as far as the 1830s. The exact stairs I propose to reproduce is the stairs

Google, the staircase is from a house in Yorkshire, England and the house has been published many
times for its interior design. I intend on informing the current homeowners on my project and I will try

I plan on finishing these stairs in a spray lacquer finish. I think this type of finish would be best as its
hard wearing and easy to apply coat after coat. A spray lacquer finish is quick drying so it is does not
take long before many coats can be applied. Context and Rational Regulations in today s joinery
design can affect how some aspects of joinery cannot be exactly reproduced. The main area in joinery
were this is relevant is in stair design because for example older stair designs would have had bigger
risers which does not comply with modern regulations. This can take from the original look of the
stairs but to comply with regulations stairs are reproduced in measurements that comply with
regulations. However when replacing a traditional style windows it can be by regulation to replace it
with pieces of exact dimensions to keep with the previous style. Regulations on the design and
geometry of external joinery are the strictest area as and windows are considered the eyes of the
building. So essentially the reasons for regulations on stair design is due to that they have a everyday
practical use and need to be safe as a lot of accidents in the home are from falling down stairs. Another
main area where this has implications on stair design is the regulation with the gap between balusters
as the regulation state they cannot be

still hasn t changed from the 1930 s 1940 s. Today is not as bad as when the Holocaust was going on.
Back then, you got killed if you were a Jew. Today if you are mexican, African American, Caucasian,

survival. Many Jews had to hide or leave their families to survive. Today, if you want to have a roof

Suburban Warriors Sparknotes
The Rise of the Right Beginning in the 1960s the conservative middle class, living in the suburbs,
called for an end to the New Deal and the moral decay of their country. Recognizing the liberal
movement s inability to organize, and agree on issues, right wing activists began to mobilize.
Although split between social conservatives and libertarians the right was able to unify on common
ground and change the direction their nation was headed. In Suburban Warriors: The Origins of the
New American Right, McGirr argues that this movement, centered in Orange County, would begin a
new era of a return to traditional values and would be successful as a result of organization, faith, and
a fierce dedication to what these middle class Americans believed to be morally right. The book
follows the rise of the right side chronologically, focusing on major issues and themes along the way.
The American middle class longed for the return of the American dream working comfortably paid
jobs, moving into planned neighborhoods they now had time to focus on other issues such as the
morally corrupt communists and liberals who were dominating the media. A fear of big government
between 1960 and 1963 caused the anti communist movement in Orange County to explode. This was
one of the many ways the right side was unified. Support of religion and promotion of God ... Show

women want a return to traditional values. Suburban Warrior compares to Power to the Poor, by

which were based around human rights and government assistance to the

Westfield offices agree with his vision to not only have entertainment combined with retailing, as
such, but specialty restaurants, TV production and viewing, dance productions and vast Internet
facilities as well. In addition, his vision incorporates all the above plus utilizing vacant mall space for
late evening and late weekend hours when shopping tends to slow down.
Under the Westfield corporate banner, Sanders continues with the development and production of
Broadway bound plays including Tootsie, Coal Miner s Daughter and Up Here. Moreover, a motion
picture adaptation of Lin Manuel Miranda s In the Heights is already in the works.
The combining of mall shopping experiences and the theatrical touch provides a promising
expectation of success. While this is not the first time such an experience has been attempted in malls,
it is the first on such a grand scale with so many high caliber theatrical professionals involved. As of

Historical Perspective Of Django Unchained And Butch...
Ricardo Godinez
Professor Dew
History of Film

Wild, Wild West
Intro
Historical Perspective Both films were made for different reasons and made different impacts during
their time of release. For Django Unchained, the film showed the horror of slavery before the civil
war. Showing slaves being eaten by dogs to slaves fighting to the death, makes an unconventional film
for its time and raised a lot of controversy considering the movies historical accuracy. The horror of
slavery is in the dehumanization that slave owners create and the effects placed upon the slave of
having to do whatever is necessary to survive, including killing. The memory of slavery is revisited
and reminds the United States of its shame during the time of the film. Butch Cassidy and the
Sundance Kid is a revisionist western that pays homage to old western movies. Since Westerns were
outdated in the late 60 s, this revised western film is created with New Hollywood elements including
an unhappy ending and film using rock/pop soundtracks to attract the youth.
Theme
Both Django Unchained and Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid share a common theme of freedom.
In Django Unchained, there are multiple layers of freedom shown that a man and woman is able to
obtain in life. Django is released from chains of oppression, then is given the right to choose his
costume. After his task with Dr. Schultz, he is given his freedom. Dr. Schultz has a greater
understanding of freedom since he has never

The Culver City City Council Meeting Essays
On Monday, April 13th, 2009, I visited the Culver City city council meeting, and found that they
operate using a council manager form of government. For a city with a population of about 38,000,
this type of governmental structure is fairly common, and I was not surprised to see it in action in a
community where the median household income is around $56,000 a year. Culver City is also a
culturally rich community with a 60 percent Caucasian population, and a quarter of the residents are
either of African American or Asian decent. The mayor, D. Scott Malsin, is one of five members on
the council, and his term as mayor is on a rotating basis. Having been to a Hermosa Beach city council
meeting with a similar council manager structure, I knew ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

with unanimous consent, but one council member, Christopher Armenta, and the vice mayor, Gary
Silbiger, had issues with C 5. On the calendar, this agenda item reads as the following, Approval of
Professional Services Agreements with Associated Soils Engineering, Inc., Geo Environmental, Inc.,
and Zeiser Kling Consultants for Geotechnical Engineering and Construction Services. Councilman
Armenta was worried that the council would not have any oversight over the process of awarding
geotechnical service agreements to particular firms, and that the amounts given to a particular firm
could wind up being an exorbitant amount of money. Vice mayor Silbiger had similar fears. Silbiger
suggested that instead of contracting out a consultant, he wondered if there could be a permanent
consulting position, but the city manager disagreed because the city needs to bring in all sorts of
consultants with varying expertise. The city manager noted that one consultant with limited range
would have little to do much of the time, and the consultant would waste the fiscal budget of the city.
The mayor and the other councilmen tried to soothe Armenta and

What Does The Flowers Symbolize In Paul s Case
In Willa Cather s, Paul s Case , several different references are made within the story in relation to
flowers. In many cases, the flowers resemble life and the journeys that one goes through. On the other
hand, flowers resemble death and how easily it can creep up on a person. Both these symbols can be
recognized in the story of the young protagonist; However, the true reason the flowers are so
prominent in the story is to resemble, and therefore predict, the life of Paul. Like the flowers, Paul will
bloom and prosper and be beautiful, but if the flowers spend too much time trying to live in a non
compatible season, the flowers will wither away and die like Paul. One of the most prominent flowers

resemble his life and how he, like the flowers, has wilted. This fabulous life he had been living was
short lived and eventually had to come to an end sometime. Likewise, the flowers had tried to live in a
season to which they had not belonged, mocking it behind a glass case. Paul had done the same; trying

protection of his fake identity. However, both Paul and the reader realize that when the glass is taken

Despite the lack of association between triglycerides and prostate cancer in the present study,
experimental studies suggest that triglycerides may induce prostate cancer progression. For instance,
several studies found that triglyceride rich remnant like particles stimulated PC 3 cell proliferation by
increasing activity of MAPK, MEK/ERK and/or Akt pathways, which are associated with controlling
cell growth and proliferation, apoptosis, cell cycle arrest and lipid biosynthesis (39,40).
Total cholesterol
Similar to the HUNT 2 study, we did not find any association between total cholesterol and prostate
cancer death in the overall study population (32). Interestingly, though, the findings based on quartiles
of total
cholesterol and our spline model suggested a non significant inverse association between total
cholesterol and prostate cancer death. Haggstrom et al. also reported an inverse, but non significant,
association between total cholesterol and prostate cancer death (8). This finding may be due to the
influence of latent cancer. However, in analyses where we excluded the first two years of follow up,
the tendency remained.
Although epidemiological studies, so far, do not support an association between total cholesterol and
prostate cancer survival, an association between

Cyberspace and Identity Essay
Multiple identities have been increased by the creation of cyberspace communications according to
Cyberspace and Identity by Sherry Turkle. Turkle uses four main points to establish this argument.
Her first point is that online identity is a textual construction. Secondly she states that online identity
is a consequence free moratorium. Turkle s third point is online identity expands real identity. Finally,
her last point states that online identity illustrates a cultural concept of multiplicity. I disagree with
many aspects of her argument and I have found flaws in her argument. Technology is an area that does
not stand still and consequently outpaced Turkle s argument.
First, Turkle states that cyberspace makes it possible ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A core self is created as a result of this consequence free environment. This will give the user an
identity.
Online identity expands real identity is Turkle s third point. The user may choose to be anyone he or
she wants in cyberspace. There are no boundaries on who or what a person may be. A user can express
many different aspects of his or her personality without being made fun of because no one would
know the truth. A man may be a woman because he wants to engage in his feminine side. The other
users may not know it is a man because in cyberspace, others only know what it told to them. If a
person chooses, he or she may change gender, age, physical characteristics, and such. A fat man can
easily become a beautiful woman in a few key strokes. On the other hand, one may express their
nonconformities in a safe way and not have to repress them. A user may be blunt and be proud of it
without receiving a black eye for it. Therefore, online identity expands real identity.
Finally, according to Turkle s article online identity illustrates a cultural concept of multiplicity. Freud
believed the subconscious revealed centralized identity but this is not apart of the popular culture
anymore. Today the computer screen conveys theory. No longer are people concentrating on the
unitary self, but yet people are experimenting with multiplicity through new social practices of
identity. None of this can compare with

Technology Explanation
Technology Explanation
There are many different kinds of technologies that are available for the world to use today. We have
the convenience of all different types data input and output devices and the means to store and make
available at lightning fast speeds. Some of the input devices that we use every day are essential in
different kinds situations and projects everyday. We also use many different types of output devices to
view our finished product. The input devices that we use are keyboards, scanners, a mouse, and a few
others in there as well. We use output devices to see our finished result or our desired outcome just as
much, or if not more than input devices. Some of these output devices are monitors, printers, LCD ...

accurately into a computer is the document scanner and fax machine to scan and send thousands of
miles away. All of these input devices are a breakthrough in the technology world today and has made
our lives a lot easier when it comes to massive inputting and accuracy of the inputs themselves. We
have talked a lot about inputting devices, now we ll talk about output devices and the quality of these
outputs. When we want to see something, we want to see, or hear, or even feel the best that we
possibly can. There are many ways to do this, but there are better ways than others for different things.
Hand held computers have been exploding into the market today. The reason why they are so popular
is because the quality of the output is so great. The (TFT) thin film transistors, and (LCD) liquid
crystal display screens that they use today are very clear and easy to read. Most of them are in color as

Diagnosis And Therapeutic Strategies Of Ebola Virus
From the first outbreak in DRC in 1976 to the recent epidemic in West Africa (2013 2015), there has
been a considerable amount of research done to further the development of the diagnosis and
therapeutic strategies of the Ebola virus. Methods for detecting the virus have improved drastically.
From the initial stage of simply identifying the virus as a whole, diagnosis can now define the specific
species of the virus. Diagnosis processes developed over the years are those that involve Cell Culture,
Antibody Detection, Protein Antigen Detection, Conventional RT PCR, and Real Time RT PCR,
which is the current standard for EVD diagnosis. In terms of the therapeutic process, there is still no
cure or vaccine that has been approved or cleared for use on human patients with EVD. The therapy
hence largely depends on the immunity of the patient and general treatment of symptoms as they
occur.
INTRODUCTION
EBOV (Ebola virus) is an enveloped RNA virus belonging to the family Filoviridae; under the
electron microscope, it appears filamentous (Strong, et al. 2006). The genus Ebolavirus comprises of
five EBOVs; EBOV being identified as the causative agent of the recent outbreak (Broadhurst, Brooks
Pollock, 2016). Ebola virus disease is caused by three Ebolaviruses EBOV included. In humans, the
disease is clinically characterized by severe hemorrhagic fever with a 90% fatality rate. Since its first
outbreak (largely in Zaire and Sudan) in the 1970s, two more outbreaks have been

What Happened To Make My Hair Fall Out Research Paper
But I m a woman, what happened to make my hair fall out?
If you are a woman and you have lost your hair or you re in the process of losing it, you may have
already gone through the many stages that are involved. For instance, when you noticed more than
usual hair in your brush, did you convince yourself it was just your imagination?
Upon awakening one morning, did it appear as though someone had given you a haircut while you
were sleeping due to all the hair on your pillow?
Even then, were you still completely in denial and convinced yourself that it s just a temporary
situation or a phase your hair is going through? It won t last long so I ll just wear my hair different
until it s back to normal.
Unfortunately, like the rest of us, you ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Additionally, you can have a sensitivity to the male hormones in your body. That figures...right?
Post pregnancy Hormonal changes sometimes cause hair loss. A woman s body does so much for the
baby during pregnancy and when the pregnancy is over and the baby is no longer there, the body goes
through a multitude of hormonal changes, so this can sometimes lead to excessive hair loss.
Fortunately, it s normally a temporary situation.
Hereditary If one of your parents lost their hair, there s a good chance yours is hereditary. Try not to
give them a hard time about it, they didn t give it to you on purpose.
Stress No surprise here. Stress is the culprit in many of our bodies disruptions. Thinning or loss of hair
can certainly be one of them. It s a Catch 22 situation because stress causes hair loss and losing our
hair gives us stress.
Unhealthy diet A diet low in protein can be one of those reason for hair loss that can definitely be
rectified by eating a healthy diet. It makes sense because about 85% of hair is made from protein. Hair
loss can be caused by low iron as well, which is more prevalent in

The Nature Of Love As Described By Helen Fischer
The evolution of love is ever changing. Its biochemical foundations and its vital importance to human
society are informing and transforming the way we understand ourselves . TED speaker Helen Fischer
states that this expression known as love derives from three basic human neural happenings, sex drive,
romantic love, and attachment. Once all of these stages fall into place within the brain, the
phenomenon known as love occurs, according to Helen Fischer. The depth of it all depends on how
deep, and far the individual has taken the subject of the matter into hand. The concept of love as
described by Helen Fischer focuses on the effects of love on the human body and the human brain.
Love starts off by finding meaning, it can be ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
once meaning is given to someone, love is unavoidable, which is most likely where the common
expression said by many who love someone is I can t live without you or I am nothing without you
because meaning is what establishes basic human functionality and the sense of self assurance, it
keeps sanity, for most, the majority of the population is very sentimentally knitted within the mind,
whether it be meaning which derives from the love for god, maybe love derives for some from
religious purposes, or from hobby niched people, or simply hugging the one that is most dear. It is in
fact the key element to a person, love, whether it is towards something that is artificial, like a car,
someone who is passionate about cars cannot seem to want to give up wanting to love the vehicle
world simply because it peaks their interest, or gives them joy, all humans have and find something to
love.
When in love, a person who is deeply invested with their significant other will often have found
meaning, thus, love begins to flourish. Often one will not know why they are in love. It could be the
part of the brain in which Helen Fischer describes as a craving, a basic human, functional need. It is
the way of survival and purpose established by the human animal.
The term coinciding with meaning is attachment. This is where it all begins, attachment is when it is
confirmed that this stage

Analysis Of Dr. Horton s Home Construction Company
A third of my life was spent in a family home in Elk Grove, California called Shadowbrook. More
accurately, Shadowbrook is the name of the model of one of the cookie cutter homes by DR Horton,
home construction company. This two story and approximately 2,450 square feet single family home
has four bedrooms and three bathrooms featuring a central heating and cooling system, fireplace, and
tandem three car garage. Shadowbrook was built in 2003 where my family was fortunately the first
owner of this structure housing my parents, myself, and my two sisters. Since Shadowbrook is a fairly
new house, little transformation has been done to the home; most transformation of the house was
applied to the landscaping of the lot of the house. One of the most memorable part of my life was the
feeling and the process of moving into an actual house as I had lived in apartments for the better part
of my life. Unfortunately, I gave very little thoughts about the house itself since any family house we
would have moved in would still had made me delighted for it would still be a new change or an
upgrade from my previous family residence. After a stumble of curiosity, I wanted to know what
expectation I had when moving into this family home and does it follow a particular trend of the time.
Moving to Elk Grove where lots of new construction home were on a rise, I expected to see stucco
cookies cutter homes as it was one of the trends I was seeing when we looked for a new home.

Thomas C. Foster s How To Read Literature Like A...
Every character that travels down a path, that encounters obstacles on their journey, that makes
sacrificial decisions faces each of these components as they undertake a life altering quest. Often
times the hero ventures out to save someone or solve a problem, but in fact, their true journey is a
search for self knowledge. Through every obstacle and road block along the way, the character
discovers more about themselves and their true identity. Though they may have journeyed across great
lands to accomplish their mission, the thing they were searching for was inside of them all along; the
journey and challenges only helped to reveal their real character. As explained in Thomas C. Foster s

Foster breaks down the aspects of a journey to describe the quester, the destination, the stated reason,
the challenges, and the real reason. The character who embarks on the journey, also known as the
quester, has a defined reason to do so, whether it is to obtain an object, save one from the lurking
dangers, or acquire life saving knowledge. Along their way to reach their destination, they may
encounter various challenges such as a physical barrier, a challenger/defender, or a personal obstacle
they must face. Through whatever form it takes, these barriers force the quester to challenge their
abilities and beliefs, which ultimately leads to them discovering personal knowledge previously
unknown about themselves. Though the quester may have accomplished their stated goal of their
journey, they return from their voyage often as a changed person as the real reason for their quest was
to gain self knowledge. After they finish their conquest, the quester realizes that the journey was more
important than the destination whether they built upon their relationships with another, conquered a
personal fear, or gained new found knowledge about themselves, altering their personality and their
identity. Foster believes that every trip is a quest, and the quest is a revelation about one s

Character Analysis Owen Meany
In the book A Prayer for Owen Meany by John Irving, my favorite character is Owen Meany. I admire
the way he cares about his friends and is willing to do anything for them. Owen has a dream about his
death, and believes that Johnny will be present. Owen does not want to put him at risk, so he cuts off
John s finger to prevent him from going into the war. This would be difficult, but he loves John and
wants to protect him. Another thing I enjoy is Owen s jokes and humor. He constantly lightens the
mood with his clever remarks. I respect how confident he is. Although he is rather short and has a
distinct voice, he is never insecure or bothered by it. He is sure of himself and he trusts in his abilities.

Despite how The Voice comes across to some of the faculty, Owen is simply trying to make a
difference at the school and give the students a voice: The Voice was our voice; he championed our
causes; he made us proud of ourselves in the atmosphere that belittled and intimidated us, (290). It is
clear that he cares deeply about his friends and is loyal to them. Even though Owen is smart enough to
skip a grade, he volunteers to repeat a grade in order to stay with John: WHAT ARE FRIENDS FOR?
I LL NEVER LEAVE YOU, (267). Although, one qualm is that Owen is extremely demanding. He
takes control of the Christmas pageant and changes everything to the way he wants it: THE WIGGINS
ARE NOT GOING TO MAKE ME PLAY THE STUPID ANGEL AGAIN! (148). At times, I think
that Owen is too demanding and rude to his parents: WHAT ARE YOU DOING HERE?...GET OUT
OF HERE, (219 220). I understand that Owen and his parents do not have a strong relationship, but
they do love him and are only trying to support him. I think it is unnecessary for Owen to act the way
he does at times, but I also believe that Owen is charming. Despite the fact that Johnny s grandmother
despises Owen for many years, he manages to win her over. They find something that they have in
common, bond over it, and become good friends: But my grandmother and Owen Meany twittered
over him as hysterically as the blue haired ladies in Liberace s audience did, (262). Besides

Battleship Potemkin And The Russian Revolution
A revolution is something that s very common in history of any country. The only thing that separates
a Revolution is the difference in reason and purpose of settling a dispute between either a country or a
city. In Russian History there was a revolution that set a new standard of fighting for a new rule. This
Russian Revolution took place from March 1917 until November 1917 in the Russian Empire. The
Russian people were tired of the imperial power of Tsarist leaders and they wanted to overthrow
power. Two films made in 1925 portrayed the Revolution through silent films Battleship Potemkin and
Aelita: Queen of Mars. Both films were produced mainly for showing the people what was going on
in society. This form of entertainment was highly recommended because of the lack of the Television
and Radio production during the time.
In the film production Battleship Potemkin, Sergei Eisenstein makes many eye opening points
throughout the film. The first point I would like to address is at the beginning of the film when the
soldiers are all on the deck. There is meat hanging up and as the men are inspecting it they have found
that the meat is rotten. Viewing their responses from this instance shows that this is not the first
incident with them getting rotten meat. One of the sailors response to this situation was We are tired of
rotten meat1 . While this is taking place the ship s Doctor comes and inspects the meat and sees the
maggots and tells the soldiers that Sailors were

Summary Of Bilingual Childhood By Richard Rodriguez
Approximately 37 million people speak both English and Spanish in the United States and have
experienced a feeling of discrimination or rejection. Richard Rodriguez s memoir called Aria: A
Memoir Of A Bilingual Childhood demonstrates this with a personal experience. This memoir was
taken from the book Hunger Of Memory which was originally published in 1982 . The events in this
memoir occur specifically in the 1900s, when the author was a young boy, entering an American
school for the first time. One of the main issues displayed in his memoir is when Rodriguez recalls
being labeled as a problem student being a Hispanic American student in an all white school. Another
issue displayed in this memoir is the difficulties he had had to learn English meantime he felt more
comfortable with Spanish. Being discriminated and not being able to adapt to two different languages
is a struggle more than half of the world deals with. This is truly a serious issue because this could
potentially be the origin of socially feeling uncomfortable. The purpose of this memoir was to tell the
reader that individuality can come from both one s private and public communities, but that does not
mean that one loses himself. The audience attracted to this memoir are foreigners in America. This
memoir is directed to immigrants and other foreign people who have experienced the same difficulty
of learning a new public language in America. Rodriguez wrote in his memoir about the struggles he

main hallmark of an autosomal recessive trait is that both men and women have an equal chance in

when discussing recessive genetic disorders? Consanguineous means people coming from the same
heritage. This is especially important when discussing recessive genetic disorders because it could
affect the chances of someone occupying the disease. 3. What is it about the inheritance pattern of
factor viii deficiency seen in Greg and Olga s pedigree that point toward it not being an autosomal
recessive trait? The trends point to factor viii not being autosomal recessive trait because clearly it
seems to be affecting males significantly more than females. This would mean that the trait does not
affect the males and females equally which takes away from the hallmark of an autosomal recessive
trait where they have equal chances. Part 4: Sex Linked Inheritance: 1. What are the characteristics of

A Study On The And Properties Of Aluminium Alloys
CHAPTER 3 LITERATURE REVIEW
3.1 Introduction
The Al Zn Mg series aluminium alloys (7xxx) are the heat treatable alloys and widely applied as large
structural components in navigation and transportation facilities, due to good combination of hardness,
high strength and fracture toughness [1 6]. The use of Sc (scandium) to achieve grain refinement has
recently received great attention. The microstructures and properties of aluminium alloys are strongly
affected by adding small quantities of scandium. Scandium additions in excess of 0.55wt.% (i.e.,
hypereutectic) are very effective in grain refinement, suggesting that the primary ScAl3 phase serves
as an effective grain nucleant [7 9].
The effect of a Sc addition will of course depend on the composition of the alloy. The additions of Sc
in aluminium alloy appear to reduce hot tearing and shrinkage porosity. Hot shortness increase with
increase in Zn but decrease with increase in Mg content [10, 11]. The process of precipitation in the Al
Zn Mg alloy system is quite complex. The aged structure and the kinetics of ageing depend on both
the Zn and Mg concentration and the temperatures of solution and ageing treatments. As the Sc
contents increases within the specified solubility in the solid solution, the grains virtually do not
disintegrate. The maximum solubility of scandium increases from 0.35 to 0.6 wt.% [12, 13]. When the
amount of scandium exceeds the eutectic content and, consequently, there appear primary particles of

I remember when visuals were used to represent psychiatric treatment consisted of a man wearing
black horn rimmed glasses, sitting in a high back arm chair, with a pen and tablet in his hands to take
notes on the session with the June Cleaver looking woman laying on :the couch, a small wind up clock

driven largely by the machinations of the pharmaceutical industry:
Psychiatry once subscribed to the Freudian view that mental illness came from roots in unconscious
conflicts (usually appearing in adolescence) that affected the mind as though it were separate from the
brain. With the introduction of psychoactive drugs in the 1950s, and sharply accelerating in the 1980s,
it was then that the psychiatric focus shifted to the brain. Psychiatrists began to refer to themselves as
psycho pharmacologists, and became far less interested in exploring the life stories of their patients
and more interested in treating their patients with drugs. The psychiatric profession became optimistic
that the use of psychoactive drugs would be beneficial with the new biological model that psychiatry
adopted. Their optimism began to fade as serious side effects of the drugs

Juxtaposition In Cold Blood
In Cold Blood and the Death Penalty Is the killing of certain people morally acceptable? In his novel,
In Cold Blood, Capote makes an argument about the death penalty. In Cold Blood, written by Truman
Capote, is a seemingly objective account of the Clutter murders of Holcomb Kansas. Capote details
both the lives of the Clutters and the lives of the two men involved in their murder. In this novel
Capote argues against the death penalty using devices such as simile, metaphor, juxtaposition, and. In
the first passage of the book, Capote writes about the incident and the resulting deaths. He writes At
the time not a soul in sleeping Holcomb heard them four shotgun blasts that, all told, ended six human
lives (Capote 5). This is an example of juxtaposition because it shows the contrast of the sleeping

detail the nature of the crime, but also to make a subtle argument about the case. After finding out that

referring to the warehouse as a Halloween pumpkin , Capote establishes the sinister feel it has. By
comparing it to Halloween he shows that it something established in spirits and death. In addition, by
comparing it to a jack o lantern, Capote paints a picture in the reader s mind of the eerie glow coming
from the warehouse, and the metaphorical fire found within. This comparison shows the reader the

Red Robin Review
Looking for a fantastic place to spend quality time with family? Red Robin is obviously a phenomenal
choice where the whole family can dine! One can t go wrong with this place. From the eccentric
setting, the famous food, and deferential service, this restaurant completely deserves five stars. Red
Robin will satisfy every craving. So why waste money or obsess over soggy McDonalds fries, when
appetizing steak fries and gourmet burgers are awaiting for just a dollar more? Try burgers such as the
mouth watering Guacamole Bacon Burger, known for its smoky, flavorful bacon. Or possibly the
Whiskey River BBQ Burger basted with Red Robin s signature Whiskey River BBQ Sauce, and lasso
d together with the cheddar cheese, crispy onion straws, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Service in Red Robin is absolutely remarkable. With extremely courteous and humorous
waiters/waitresses, and very accurate and appropriate timing of food arriving, this restaurant is perfect
in every way. The service is quick which won t keep one too hungry. Also they keep customers
entertained in many different ways. For example, on a friend or family member s birthday, a waiter or
waitress can become a clown! They will come and sing to the one whose birthday it is with their own
special version of the Happy Birthday Song! They clap and sing and make themselves look 100%
ridiculous, but they are more than happy to do it to brighten up a birthday. Again, one can t go wrong
with Red Robin s superior, comical service which must be experienced. Red Robin has to be a top
choice from a critic s perspective for the perfect setting, marvelous burgers, and respectful service
when looking for the ideal dining place that is outstanding and satisfying for the whole family! No
need to worry about children being picky and not finding what they enjoy. There are plenty of choices
that no one can resist, including kids. The children s menu is reasonable as well as the adult s menu!
Not one burger or entrée at Red Robin is blasé; they are all fantastic and delightful! So why settle for
fast food when one can get the food fast and relax at the same time? Come to Red Robin to be a part
of family, scrumptious food, and exciting

Arctic Vampire Lizard Research Paper
Throughout the majority of the year, the Arctic vampire lizard is a parasite to the muskox (Ovibos
moschatus). Around the beginning of September, Arctic vampire lizards will climb up the legs of
muskoxen grazing on the last vegetation of the summer. Using its long toes to climb, the Arctic
vampire lizard will navigate through the fur of its muskox. Like some snakes, the vampire lizard has a
pit organ located beneath the nostrils with which the lizard can detect infrared radiation (Gracheva et
al. 2010). The Arctic vampire lizard uses the heat sensing organ to locate where blood vessels lie close
to the skin on the muskox. After locating a site, the Arctic vampire lizard will use its razor sharp teeth
to first shave the area of hair, then to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Immediately after entering the stomach, water and the unusable plasma of the ingested blood are
absorbed by the lining of the stomach (Breidenstein, 1982). The majority of the dry matter in blood is
mainly proteins, so the digestive system of the Arctic vampire lizard goes to work on breaking these
proteins down (Breidenstein, 1982). Beginning in the stomach, the enzyme pepcin begins breaking
some of the peptide bonds of the proteins (Silk et al. 1985). The contents of the stomach are then
quickly transported to the small intestine, where pancreatic enzymes continue to hydrolyze the
polypeptides, breaking them into individual amino acids (Silk et al. 1985). In the small intestine, the
amino acids are diffused through the intestinal lining into the tangent blood vessels to be delivered
through the body through the circulatory system (Silk et al. 1985). The liver can then convert amino
acids like alanine to glucose through a process called gluconeogenesis (Yoon et al. 2001). The glucose
is then made into ATP through aerobic respiration, producing water and carbon dioxide (Yoon et al.

The Justification Of The Nsa Unlawful Spying Activities
The justifications provided for the leakage of the NSA unlawful spying activities also support the
argument that Snowman s act was permissible. For instance, Snowden justifies his act by stating that
he relied on the U.S Constitution, the Universal Declaration of Human Rights as well as the 1945
Nuremberg declaration. He provides his explanation for his shift from the his earlier held philosophy
of nationalism by noting that people have an international duty that surpasses their national
obligations of loyalty, (Scheuerman, 2014). He further expounds that sometimes national loyalty leads
to national relativism whereby people overlook their country s evils, instead preferring to focus on
distant and external evils.
Generally, intelligence systems are extensively concealed, which exposes them to potential abuse by
those in charge. This results in abuse of human rights such as privacy rights that is detrimental to the
very security that such systems ought to safeguard. As such, blowing the whistle on such activities can
be an effective mechanism of exposing the ills that characterize intelligence systems. Furthermore,
Scheurman (2014) argues that a requirement for whistleblower identity disclosure as proposed in
Sagar s framework enhances their opportunity to fulfill their obligations to justify their actions. They
further state that whistleblower identity disclosure demonstrates civic mindedness. In addition, the
disclosure of the whistle blower s identity helps to prevent

Anne T. Donahue s Nine Cinderella Stories You Might Not Know
Cinderella For centuries children have been familiar with fairy tales. The fantasy of the fairy tales
allows children to have an imagination. Children gain their imagination from these stories, based off
of the characters and the adventures they go on. One particular fairy tale that many children enjoy, is
Cinderella. According to Anne T. Donahue s article 9 Cinderella Stories You Might Not Know which
was published in the March 13, 2015 Refinery29, Cinderella has come a long way from its origins as a
tale about persecution and the dangers of systemic oppression. Dating back to the first century, what
was once a story about a Greek slave girl becoming an Egyptian queen has evolved into something
much more magical, romantic, and ultimately

Essay On The Controversy Of Voices In The Media
Inclusion is a major issue, and will continue to be an issue in today s media. Yes, there is an array of
voices in the media, but the positive voices and stories often get overshadowed by negativity. There s
a misconception that certain stories are not worthy of being told, or are a too risky. For example, I saw
this first hand while taking one of my television development courses. While some students pushed
for diversity in their made up television shows, others remained close minded about even the smallest
of details, such as casting for their television shows. This was a problem, because they did not see a
problem.
I think the more we push to produce stories that are different from our own, the more it will become
the norm. I don t believe the industry should strive for ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example, one of Netflix s newest shows, Marvel s Luke Cage, was met with a large amount of
controversy. Many applauded the focus on delicate topics, and the show s timeliness, but a few weary
fans of the series went as far as to comment on the lack of white voices in the television program, and
to display their annoyance with the show s references to political topics. Disney Channel actress,
Zendaya was met with similar backlash after it was announced that she would be playing Mary Jane in
the new Spiderman Homecoming film.
So how do we move past preconceived ideas and prejudices in the media? The answer will change for
each person that you ask. Personally, I believe that as long as realistic stories continue to get produced
and told, we will be one step closer to achieving the goal of inclusivity. It won t happen overnight, or
even all at once, but it will happen. In the future, I hope to keep the discussion of inclusion in the
media going, as well as contribute, by developing content to assure that the media successfully reflects
the various voices, people and ideas of the world that we live

Children in Hospice
Children in Hospice

RES/110

Professor James Lazos
Children in Hospice
Research suggests that every year there are between 100,000 to 150,000 children born in the United
States with a genetic disorder or defect. This represents approximately 20% of infant deaths each year.
However, many of these children live to age well beyond the expectation, and some are enrolled in
hospice. According to Armstrong Daily and Zarbock (2001), The concept of hospice today is applied
to patients who are traveling through the final stages of their lives in effect seeking shelter and
comfort. Hence, the main focus of this program is to prepare families for the death of a loved one.
Although accepting these ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Even when hospitalized, parents must be prepared to fight for the right of their child to live because
many medical professionals give the impression that any effort would be useless. Many parents are
even willing to care for the child within the home but there are no resources available to assist with
care other than nursing. This should be a key area for concern as the patient is expected to live six
months in most cases and it is more than enough time to prepare for the child s death. When that time
has passed and the child is still progressing, one is only left to wonder the next step. At this point, time
spent creating memories with family should be top priority.
It is my recommendation that the health care community implement a network of resources for parents
who are not willing to accept and grieve but are willing to accept and fight to prolong the life of their
child. Resources and information should be readily available to assist with any type of services that
would bring relief for situations ranging from housing to therapy. Medical professionals also should be
required to take a course in patient relations giving some insight into the emotional turmoil that many
parents experience. This probably would change some parent s perception of the medical profession
because discretion and empathy would be used when providing information about the child s
condition. Any feelings of hopelessness may be eliminated and replaced with feelings of relief

Shipwrecks In Libya Research Paper At least 239 migrants are believed to have drowned this week in two shipwrecks off the coast of Libya, the United Nations refugee agency said Thursday, adding to the toll in what was already the deadliest year on record in the Mediterranean Sea. Survivor accounts suggest that two crowded boats broke up just off the Libyan coast Wednesday, said Carlotta Sami, spokeswoman for the UN High Commissioner for Refugees. The 31 survivors were taken to the Italian island of Lampedusa, which has become a rescue hub amid an ever deadlier crisis as migrants depart Africa s northern shores trying to reach Europe. The reports from the survivors could not be independently confirmed, but it is common for migrant ships to be filled far beyond capacity, and hundreds have perished in past sinkings. • 6. The Transmission Of Universal And Timeless Issues Through... An Eternal Prison The Transmission of Universal and Timeless Issues through Experiences in the Soviet Gulag Camps. Alexander Solzhenitsyn s novel One Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovich follows exactly as its title suggests, a day in the life of Ivan Denisovich, a prisoner of the Soviet Gulag camps, and the tribulations that he and his fellow prisoners encounter in their daily lives. Having personally experienced the horrific conditions of the Gulag camp system, Alexander Solzhenitsyn wrote the novel as a means to communicate these horrors to not only the Russian people, but also beyond the boundaries of the Soviet Union, to the international community. Its stark realism and political undercurrents shocked many at the time of its publishing, and caused a great amount of controversy in the Soviet Union (Klimoff xiv). The style in which Solzhenitsyn presents his work transcends the scope of the novel and its translation into something more sweeping. Although Ivan Denisovich is rooted in the contextual background of a Soviet Gulag, it is able to relay universal and timeless issues such as oppression, sense of identity, and the social hierarchy. The issue of oppression appears throughout the novel as Ivan Denisovich is imprisoned as a traitor as he had surrendered in order to betray his country and returned from POW camp to carry out a mission for German intelligence (Solzhenitsyn 69 70), and is sent to the Gulag. After the nuclear weapon exploded, the Godzilla was waked by the nuclear weapon and started to attack Japan. Like the William Tsutsui said in his book that the original Godzilla film (Gojira) was more than just a guy in a rubber suit smashing a model of Tokyo. Some people argue the movie Godzilla does not have a deep meaning because it copied the idea of other movies and they just want to make money. In my opinion, I have a different opinion which agrees with what William Tsutsui said in his book because the film Godzilla shows the anti nuclear, anti war and also tell people that science s both sides for humans which also reflect the influence of nuclear. First of all, the movie has a deep meaning of the anti nuclear which is The time honored story of Godzilla s genesis begins in the spring of 1954 with Tanaka Tomoyuki. (p14). In 1954, Japan was attacked by America s nuclear and they were afraid of the nuclear weapon because the Godzilla was waked by nuclear weapon at that time. Then the Godzilla started to attack Japan for several times and most of them died from the attack. For example, in the movie that Godzilla waked up in the sea by the nuclear weapon and started to go to the cities hurt Japanese by using fire and trampling on the buildings. I still remember that one train drove nearby and then the Godzilla just stepped on the train and also throws some parts of the train away, many people dead from his attack and restless people just ran away and show the faces that they are scared. Especially at the end of movie, the person said If we keep on conducting nuclear tests. • 10. The Pathos Of Failure By Thomas Elsaesser The Pathos of Failure, is Thomas Elsaesser s diagnosis of an ideological trend that occurred in mainstream Hollywood in the 1960s 1970s. During this time, the American film industry saw an unprecedented, revolutionary detour in stylistic experimentation, and thematically, a focus on the somewhat sentimental gestures of defeat, (Eleasser 234). This shift represented a departure from Classical Hollywood s idealized vision of America, the films of which reproduced aspects of dominant American ideology subject to increasing contempt among audiences. Interesting parallels can be drawn between The Graduate (1967) and The Parallax View (1974) in relation to Elseasser s analysis. The Pathos of Failure is felt acutely in both films, not only thematically, but also in the craft of the films themselves: non linear, episodic, unresolved narratives and complex, counter cultural, marginal male protagonists, whose goals are ill defined and ultimately unattained (Hehr 85). Perhaps the allure of these films was that they required a degree of critical engagement from the audience, reflected by wider society s growing cynicism towards American institutions and their basic pillars, (Hehr 31). There is a certain comfort, I will argue, in honestly acknowledging both internal conflicts and greater societal defects through the medium of cinema. Interest in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) is thinning for women as they progress into higher levels. Suburban Warriors Sparknotes The Rise of the Right Beginning in the 1960s the conservative middle class, living in the suburbs, called for an end to the New Deal and the moral decay of their country. Recognizing the liberal movement s inability to organize, and agree on issues, right wing activists began to mobilize. Although split between social conservatives and libertarians the right was able to unify on common ground and change the direction their nation was headed. In Suburban Warriors: The Origins of the New American Right, McGirr argues that this movement, centered in Orange County, would begin a new era of a return to traditional values and would be successful as a result of organization, faith, and a fierce dedication to what these middle class Americans believed to be morally right. The book follows the rise of the right side chronologically, focusing on major issues and themes along the way. The American middle class longed for the return of the American dream working comfortably paid jobs, moving into planned neighborhoods they now had time to focus on other issues such as the morally corrupt communists and liberals who were dominating the media. Ricardo Godinez Professor Dew History of Film November 21, 2017 Wild, Wild West Intro Historical Perspective Both films were made for different reasons and made different impacts during their time of release. Showing slaves being eaten by dogs to slaves fighting to the death, makes an unconventional film for its time and raised a lot of controversy considering the movies historical accuracy. The horror of slavery is in the dehumanization that slave owners create and the effects placed upon the slave of having to do whatever is necessary to survive, including killing. Therefore, online identity expands real identity. Finally, according to Turkle s article online identity illustrates a cultural concept of multiplicity. Diagnosis And Therapeutic Strategies Of Ebola Virus From the first outbreak in DRC in 1976 to the recent epidemic in West Africa (2013 2015), there has been a considerable amount of research done to further the development of the diagnosis and therapeutic strategies of the Ebola virus. Methods for detecting the virus have improved drastically. From the initial stage of simply identifying the virus as a whole, diagnosis can now define the specific species of the virus. Diagnosis processes developed over the years are those that involve Cell Culture, Antibody Detection, Protein Antigen Detection, Conventional RT PCR, and Real Time RT PCR, which is the current standard for EVD diagnosis. In terms of the therapeutic process, there is still no cure or vaccine that has been approved or cleared for use on human patients with EVD. The therapy hence largely depends on the immunity of the patient and general treatment of symptoms as they occur. Its biochemical foundations and its vital importance to human society are informing and transforming the way we understand ourselves . TED speaker Helen Fischer states that this expression known as love derives from three basic human neural happenings, sex drive, romantic love, and attachment. Once all of these stages fall into place within the brain, the phenomenon known as love occurs, according to Helen Fischer. More accurately, Shadowbrook is the name of the model of one of the cookie cutter homes by DR Horton, home construction company. This two story and approximately 2,450 square feet single family home has four bedrooms and three bathrooms featuring a central heating and cooling system, fireplace, and tandem three car garage. Shadowbrook was built in 2003 where my family was fortunately the first owner of this structure housing my parents, myself, and my two sisters. Since Shadowbrook is a fairly new house, little transformation has been done to the home; most transformation of the house was applied to the landscaping of the lot of the house. One of the most memorable part of my life was the feeling and the process of moving into an actual house as I had lived in apartments for the better part of my life. Richard Rodriguez s memoir called Aria: A Memoir Of A Bilingual Childhood demonstrates this with a personal experience. The events in this memoir occur specifically in the 1900s, when the author was a young boy, entering an American school for the first time. One of the main issues displayed in his memoir is when Rodriguez recalls being labeled as a problem student being a Hispanic American student in an all white school. A Study On The And Properties Of Aluminium Alloys CHAPTER 3 LITERATURE REVIEW 3.1 Introduction The Al Zn Mg series aluminium alloys (7xxx) are the heat treatable alloys and widely applied as large structural components in navigation and transportation facilities, due to good combination of hardness, high strength and fracture toughness [1 6]. The use of Sc (scandium) to achieve grain refinement has recently received great attention. The microstructures and properties of aluminium alloys are strongly affected by adding small quantities of scandium. Scandium additions in excess of 0.55wt.% (i.e., hypereutectic) are very effective in grain refinement, suggesting that the primary ScAl3 phase serves as an effective grain nucleant [7 9]. The effect of a Sc addition will of course depend on the composition of the alloy. The additions of Sc in aluminium alloy appear to reduce hot tearing and shrinkage porosity. Hot shortness increase with increase in Zn but decrease with increase in Mg content [10, 11]. The process of precipitation in the Al Zn Mg alloy system is quite complex. The aged structure and the kinetics of ageing depend on both the Zn and Mg concentration and the temperatures of solution and ageing treatments. As the Sc contents increases within the specified solubility in the solid solution, the grains virtually do not disintegrate. The maximum solubility of scandium increases from 0.35 to 0.6 wt.% [12, 13]. When the amount of scandium exceeds the eutectic content and, consequently, there appear primary particles of ... • 40. Arctic Vampire Lizard Research Paper Throughout the majority of the year, the Arctic vampire lizard is a parasite to the muskox (Ovibos moschatus). Around the beginning of September, Arctic vampire lizards will climb up the legs of muskoxen grazing on the last vegetation of the summer. Using its long toes to climb, the Arctic vampire lizard will navigate through the fur of its muskox. Like some snakes, the vampire lizard has a pit organ located beneath the nostrils with which the lizard can detect infrared radiation (Gracheva et al. 2010). The Arctic vampire lizard uses the heat sensing organ to locate where blood vessels lie close to the skin on the muskox. After locating a site, the Arctic vampire lizard will use its razor sharp teeth to first shave the area of hair, then to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Immediately after entering the stomach, water and the unusable plasma of the ingested blood are absorbed by the lining of the stomach (Breidenstein, 1982). The majority of the dry matter in blood is mainly proteins, so the digestive system of the Arctic vampire lizard goes to work on breaking these proteins down (Breidenstein, 1982). Beginning in the stomach, the enzyme pepcin begins breaking some of the peptide bonds of the proteins (Silk et al. 1985). The contents of the stomach are then quickly transported to the small intestine, where pancreatic enzymes continue to hydrolyze the polypeptides, breaking them into individual amino acids (Silk et al. 1985). In the small intestine, the amino acids are diffused through the intestinal lining into the tangent blood vessels to be delivered through the body through the circulatory system (Silk et al. 1985). The liver can then convert amino acids like alanine to glucose through a process called gluconeogenesis (Yoon et al. 2001). The glucose is then made into ATP through aerobic respiration, producing water and carbon dioxide (Yoon et al. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 41. The Justification Of The Nsa Unlawful Spying Activities The justifications provided for the leakage of the NSA unlawful spying activities also support the argument that Snowman s act was permissible. For instance, Snowden justifies his act by stating that he relied on the U.S Constitution, the Universal Declaration of Human Rights as well as the 1945 Nuremberg declaration. He provides his explanation for his shift from the his earlier held philosophy of nationalism by noting that people have an international duty that surpasses their national obligations of loyalty, (Scheuerman, 2014). He further expounds that sometimes national loyalty leads to national relativism whereby people overlook their country s evils, instead preferring to focus on distant and external evils. Generally, intelligence systems are extensively concealed, which exposes them to potential abuse by those in charge. This results in abuse of human rights such as privacy rights that is detrimental to the very security that such systems ought to safeguard. As such, blowing the whistle on such activities can be an effective mechanism of exposing the ills that characterize intelligence systems. Furthermore, Scheurman (2014) argues that a requirement for whistleblower identity disclosure as proposed in Sagar s framework enhances their opportunity to fulfill their obligations to justify their actions. They further state that whistleblower identity disclosure demonstrates civic mindedness. In addition, the disclosure of the whistle blower s identity helps to prevent ... • 42. Anne T. Donahue s Nine Cinderella Stories You Might Not Know Cinderella For centuries children have been familiar with fairy tales. The fantasy of the fairy tales allows children to have an imagination. Children gain their imagination from these stories, based off of the characters and the adventures they go on. One particular fairy tale that many children enjoy, is Cinderella. According to Anne T. Donahue s article 9 Cinderella Stories You Might Not Know which was published in the March 13, 2015 Refinery29, Cinderella has come a long way from its origins as a tale about persecution and the dangers of systemic oppression. Dating back to the first century, what was once a story about a Greek slave girl becoming an Egyptian queen has evolved into something much more magical, romantic, and ultimately ... • 43. Essay On The Controversy Of Voices In The Media Inclusion is a major issue, and will continue to be an issue in today s media. Yes, there is an array of voices in the media, but the positive voices and stories often get overshadowed by negativity. There s a misconception that certain stories are not worthy of being told, or are a too risky. For example, I saw this first hand while taking one of my television development courses. While some students pushed for diversity in their made up television shows, others remained close minded about even the smallest of details, such as casting for their television shows. This was a problem, because they did not see a problem. I think the more we push to produce stories that are different from our own, the more it will become the norm. I don t believe the industry should strive for ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For example, one of Netflix s newest shows, Marvel s Luke Cage, was met with a large amount of controversy. Many applauded the focus on delicate topics, and the show s timeliness, but a few weary fans of the series went as far as to comment on the lack of white voices in the television program, and to display their annoyance with the show s references to political topics. Disney Channel actress, Zendaya was met with similar backlash after it was announced that she would be playing Mary Jane in the new Spiderman Homecoming film. So how do we move past preconceived ideas and prejudices in the media? The answer will change for each person that you ask. Personally, I believe that as long as realistic stories continue to get produced and told, we will be one step closer to achieving the goal of inclusivity. It won t happen overnight, or even all at once, but it will happen. In the future, I hope to keep the discussion of inclusion in the media going, as well as contribute, by developing content to assure that the media successfully reflects the various voices, people and ideas of the world that we live ... • 44. Children in Hospice Children in Hospice Katrina Williams RES/110 April 26, 2012 Professor James Lazos Children in Hospice Research suggests that every year there are between 100,000 to 150,000 children born in the United States with a genetic disorder or defect. This represents approximately 20% of infant deaths each year. However, many of these children live to age well beyond the expectation, and some are enrolled in hospice. According to Armstrong Daily and Zarbock (2001), The concept of hospice today is applied to patients who are traveling through the final stages of their lives in effect seeking shelter and comfort. Hence, the main focus of this program is to prepare families for the death of a loved one. Although accepting these ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Even when hospitalized, parents must be prepared to fight for the right of their child to live because many medical professionals give the impression that any effort would be useless. Many parents are even willing to care for the child within the home but there are no resources available to assist with care other than nursing. This should be a key area for concern as the patient is expected to live six months in most cases and it is more than enough time to prepare for the child s death. When that time has passed and the child is still progressing, one is only left to wonder the next step. At this point, time spent creating memories with family should be top priority. It is my recommendation that the health care community implement a network of resources for parents who are not willing to accept and grieve but are willing to accept and fight to prolong the life of their child. Resources and information should be readily available to assist with any type of services that would bring relief for situations ranging from housing to therapy. Medical professionals also should be required to take a course in patient relations giving some insight into the emotional turmoil that many parents experience. This probably would change some parent s perception of the medical profession because discretion and empathy would be used when providing information about the child s condition. Any feelings of hopelessness may be eliminated and replaced with feelings of relief ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
