The Battle River Coal-Fired Generating Station is located 200 kilometres southeast of Edmonton, Alberta on the banks of the Battle River. It supplies water from a reservoir created by a 12 metre dam on the Battle River in 1954. The station works with a mining company to ensure mined land is returned to equivalent or better productivity levels. It has received ISO 14001 registration for its environmental management system. The 689MW station has been operating since 1956 using coal to power steam turbines and generate electricity.
