The team created a Facebook group to share and discuss in-depth articles they found about the benefits of social media. They also collaboratively created a blog to collect and break down their discussions on various articles into detail, with each member providing their own opinions and perspectives. Moving forward, they plan to use social media to gather additional opinions from others on the topic and include those perspectives in their blogging as well.

Cultivation theory explains that regular and frequent exposure to certain types of social media information have an effect on a person's attitudes and behavior. Cultivation theorists believe that social media has effects that are small, gradual, indirect, and cumulative - they add up over time to change a person's attitudes and behaviors, kind of like a stalagmite building up on a cave floor over the years.
Social learning theory explains that we learn through observation. According to social learning theory, the three pieces of this puzzle are the person, the modeled behavior, and the environment. We form a model of behaviors without needing to actually do it ourselves - we can see someone almost being hit by a car in the street and know that we need to be very careful in the street without being (nearly) hit ourselves. We can watch a YouTube video on makeup application or car repair and then go on to try the process in real life.
Agenda setting theory explains that social media influences people regarding what to think about rather than what to think. This theory holds that social media influences and amplifies our existing beliefs, and that people are willing to look to social media to cue us as to where we should focus our attention. You might see this as waves of people on your social media sites tend to post about similar issues, which gets you (and them) thinking about them more and leads to more posting for a while. Then the attention goes somewhere else. For example, for a while, the gold and white / blue and black dress was lighting up social media sites (google it if you don't know), which led to a lot of discussions on visual processing and the work our brains do. Then along came the next big item on the agenda.
Uses and gratification theory identifies that people look to social media to escape from challenges or be entertained. This theory assumes that people are not passive, but are actively searching out and using the information they are consuming from social media sites.
Schemas are ways of organizing our world. We all have stereotypes that help us classify people and things. Schemas are not a theory, per se, but an explanation on how our memory organizes information. Jean Piaget developed the use of schemas to explain not only how we categorize our knowledge, but how we utilize that knowledge as well. Online, ethical issues can arise from downloading content without permission, keeping data that doesn't belong to you, copyright infringement of images and text without citing sources. Privacy is also an important online ethical issue, as personal data generated online can be sold to advertisers, and people are often surveyed without consent. Younger generations may understand and value privacy differently than older ones, carefully managing disclosure of information rather than seeking to hide it completely.

Radio waves used in media technology
Radio waves are used in various media technologies to transmit signals and data wirelessly. They are a type of electromagnetic radiation that allows WiFi, mobile networks, and television broadcasting to function. WiFi uses radio waves to transmit signals between wireless adapters and routers to enable internet access on devices. Mobile networks also use radio waves to transmit signals between mobile phones and base stations to access the internet remotely. Television broadcasting transmits moving images and sound via radio waves from stations to antennas and dishes in homes.

I develop the Ruby programming language, RubyGems, and Bundler, which are package managers for Ruby. Today, I will introduce how to enhance the security of your application using open-source software (OSS) examples from Ruby and RubyGems.
The first topic is CVE (Common Vulnerabilities and Exposures). I have published CVEs many times. But what exactly is a CVE? I'll provide a basic understanding of CVEs and explain how to detect and handle vulnerabilities in OSS.
Next, let's discuss package managers. Package managers play a critical role in the OSS ecosystem. I'll explain how to manage library dependencies in your application.
I'll share insights into how the Ruby and RubyGems core team works to keep our ecosystem safe. By the end of this talk, you'll have a better understanding of how to safeguard your code.

- 2. Benefits of social media Discussing real examples of social media benefitting individuals, groups and businesses and analysing through our discussion the benefits it brings. Finding out how social media has had an impact on lives and the world. Social media has its obvious benefits that we are all familiar with, but we’re looking at major or unique cases where social media has played an important role.
- 3. Facebook group This is where we are sharing articles we find and discussing them in depth. It allows us to see each others point of view and the different ideas we get. A Facebook group also allows us to be organised, share news, photos and files, and easily keep in contact.
- 8. After a week of discussing various different articles which show the benefits of social media, we collect our thoughts and discussions in a blog post. This is a great way of breaking down an article into detail as we all have our own opinions and find out different things, and this is all collected in our collaborative blog.
- 10. What next? Our opinions are limited. We will be using social media to ask other people of their thoughts and ideas and collect their opinions as well. This will be done by using Twitter/Facebook to post articles on our news feeds and allowing other people to respond. We will collect opinions and blog about them. Our aim is to find out the benefits social media brings to every aspect of society, and how it brings more positives than negatives.
