1. A SMARTER SCHOOL

2. We have thought about the huge waste of paper in each school.
The main part of school still uses paper books.
➢ Schools spends between $30.000 and $50.000 on paper, using almost 6 millions sheets of paper
every year.
➢ According to WWF every school is responsible of the cutting down almost 80 trees every year.

3. The Problems
➢ The upkeep of a wide area server could be expensive
○ It will be covered with the money saved with our project by the schools involved
➢ Many cannot afford school books.
○ the digitalization will make them more affordable.
➢ Many cannot afford a Pc or a Tablet needed to access the network.
○ The school could provide them

4. Our Vision
In this Project we will try to find a solution to reduce the use of paper in schools that can
be accessible by every student.

5. Our Solutions
➢ One network could contain all the books and through which you could also
organize the paper usage for the school. Also the price of books will extremely
decrease.
➢ The paper used by the school could be recycled in a more organized and
environmental friendly way.
➢ Use paper sheets in a smarter way (Print front and back…)

6. One Network to rule them all
➢ This application, connected to the school network, will be free to download.
➢ At the beginning of the first year of study there will be some lesson to learn all the
network’s functions.
➢ The network could also be used by the teachers to organize the paper needs of
the school.
➢ If a family doesn’t have enough money to buy a tablet, the school could lend it to
the student

7. The economic side
➢ It costs about 0,05€ to recycle 1Kg of paper, it would cost about 1200€ to
recycle all the paper needed, saving almost a maximum of 40000€ each
school.
➢ E-book prices are lower than paper books.
The school could use the money saved to finance the organization and upkeep
of the network and the recycling of the paper

8. Timeline
➢ We want to start this project in a local scope, and if it will be efficient we could expand it in a wider
territory
➢ With the flowing of time we we want to increase the number of devices provided to and by the
school and also install some solar panels on the school’s roof to recover the energy used by the
devices and reduce costs
➢ With time this could be a country wide solution and be organized by a proper administration
