A presentation looking at some of the challenges facing information literacy teaching at UEA. Just how do we convince students that using the library will be better for them than using Google? Are we right?
There is nothing new under the sun. Aristotle told us about persuasion, and that helps us with relationships, sales, engagement, process, and success. Enjoy!
The document outlines 7 types of original input that can be used in research or academic writing: 1) Using an idea for the first time in a specific language, 2) Using an idea for the first time in a specific place or community, 3) Using an idea for the first time to meet a specific need or solve a problem, 4) Using an idea for the first time for a particular purpose or context, 5) Using an idea for the first time together with another idea, 6) Modifying an idea to achieve the same result, and 7) Modifying an idea to achieve a different result. The document provides guidance on identifying original contributions by specifying how the idea is being used for the first time.
This document discusses the logical fallacy of appeal to ignorance. It explains that appeal to ignorance argues that a proposition is true because it has not been proven false, rather than providing evidence of it being true. Some examples given include arguing that aliens must have built the pyramids because their construction was previously unexplained, or that ghosts likely exist because their nonexistence can't be proven. The document provides additional examples and questions for readers to identify appeals to ignorance and understand why they are logically fallacious forms of argument.
This document provides guidance on research skills for dissertation work, including how to develop effective search strategies using keywords and alternative terms, tips for searching library databases, and how to evaluate sources using the CRAAP test. It also gives an overview of the library resources available, such as books, ebooks, journal articles, and how to access materials from other libraries through interlibrary loan. Students are encouraged to contact the librarian with any questions about researching for their dissertation.

It also gives an overview of the library resources available at the College including books, ejournals, and inter-library loans, as well as contact information for getting additional research help.
This document provides guidance on how to critically read textbooks and other materials. It recommends evaluating the author's qualifications and potential biases, checking facts and differentiating facts from opinions. Readers should compare the content to their own knowledge and experiences, as well as biblical principles. When critiquing a text, readers should determine if it contains reasonable information, exaggerations, propaganda or biases. Facts should be distinguished from opinions.

This document discusses the first civilizations in the Americas. It describes how sedentary groups began developing more complex ways of life, forming villages that communicated with each other. This led to the emergence of the first civilizations in two main regions: Mesoamerica and the Andes mountains. In Mesoamerica, early cultures like the Olmec established writing, calendar, and cultural traditions that influenced later civilizations such as the Maya, Toltec, and Aztec. Along the Andes, civilizations such as the Chavin, Moche, Nazca, and Inca arose, distinguished by achievements like observatories, aqueducts, and pottery-making.

Underneath the Roses Where I Remembered Everything by Molly RoseBurning Eye
Molly Case's poem "The Park Next to the Hospital" vividly describes memories of childhood and adolescence spent in a local park. It recalls experiences like watching the night sky, drinking and smoking, witnessing fights, and one's first kisses. The poem acts as a meditation on nostalgia and how childhood places remain unchanged over time. The narrator finds comfort in knowing the park will still be there, as they now work at the nearby hospital as a nurse.

Newell Rubbermaid created an inclusion and diversity program to build an inclusive culture that leverages differences. In 2007, over 2,200 managers received training on inclusion and diversity. Newell Rubbermaid also measured workforce demographics, formed two employee resource groups for women and Hispanics, and aimed to increase supplier diversity and community relations. The company's goals for 2008 were to continue these efforts to create a more diverse and inclusive workplace.
The document discusses water behavior in unsaturated particulate materials at both the microscale and macroscale. At the microscale, interparticle forces are analyzed based on Laplace's equation for menisci between idealized spherical or flat particles. The small strain stiffness of drying specimens is measured and related to changes in interparticle forces. Microscale experiments assess menisci failure strains and regeneration rates. At the macroscale, the effective stress concept is extended to unsaturated soils based on Bishop's equation, though limitations are noted. The behavior depends on water content, pore size, surface tension, and other factors. Overall, the document aims to provide insight into unsaturated soil behavior, especially during the pendular stage, through particle-level studies

LAND USE LAND COVER AND NDVI OF MIRZAPUR DISTRICT, UPRAHUL
This Dissertation explores the particular circumstances of Mirzapur, a region located in the
core of India. Mirzapur, with its varied terrains and abundant biodiversity, offers an optimal
environment for investigating the changes in vegetation cover dynamics. Our study utilizes
advanced technologies such as GIS (Geographic Information Systems) and Remote sensing to
analyze the transformations that have taken place over the course of a decade.
The complex relationship between human activities and the environment has been the focus
of extensive research and worry. As the global community grapples with swift urbanization,
population expansion, and economic progress, the effects on natural ecosystems are becoming
more evident. A crucial element of this impact is the alteration of vegetation cover, which plays a
significant role in maintaining the ecological equilibrium of our planet.Land serves as the foundation for all human activities and provides the necessary materials for
these activities. As the most crucial natural resource, its utilization by humans results in different
'Land uses,' which are determined by both human activities and the physical characteristics of the
land.
The utilization of land is impacted by human needs and environmental factors. In countries
like India, rapid population growth and the emphasis on extensive resource exploitation can lead
to significant land degradation, adversely affecting the region's land cover.
Therefore, human intervention has significantly influenced land use patterns over many
centuries, evolving its structure over time and space. In the present era, these changes have
accelerated due to factors such as agriculture and urbanization. Information regarding land use and
cover is essential for various planning and management tasks related to the Earth's surface,
providing crucial environmental data for scientific, resource management, policy purposes, and
diverse human activities.
Accurate understanding of land use and cover is imperative for the development planning
of any area. Consequently, a wide range of professionals, including earth system scientists, land
and water managers, and urban planners, are interested in obtaining data on land use and cover
changes, conversion trends, and other related patterns. The spatial dimensions of land use and
cover support policymakers and scientists in making well-informed decisions, as alterations in
these patterns indicate shifts in economic and social conditions. Monitoring such changes with the
help of Advanced technologies like Remote Sensing and Geographic Information Systems is
crucial for coordinated efforts across different administrative levels. Advanced technologies like
Remote Sensing and Geographic Information Systems

Changes in vegetation cover refer to variations in the distribution, composition, and overall
structure of plant communities across different temporal and spatial scales. These changes can
occur natural.
