Teachers can develop students' creative writing skills through various strategies and techniques. These include warm-up activities like having students create something from clay to get them thinking imaginatively. The writing process involves prewriting, drafting, revising and reflecting. Creativity can be fostered by choosing interesting topics, rewarding creative efforts, and creating a supportive environment. Specific strategies covered are fast writes, thematic trees, multidimensional writing from different perspectives, brainstorming and mind mapping, story transformations, and employing techniques like character empathy and wish fulfillment.

I teach a weekly online class to virtual students in my school, focusing on 5th grade Writing Strategies. This PowerPoint is one of the lessons that I designed for the class. It is aligned to CA standards for fifth grade, and also aligned to the K12 curriculum so that students can get guided instruction on one of their lessons and be able to mark it off at the end.
My students have to write descriptions very often while making different academic assignments. I prepared this slide show as a supporting material to teach a case study on poverty alleviation.
Teach students how to identify an author's purpose with this interactive presentation. Designed specifically for intermediate and middle school students.
These tips will help you make an important transition:
away from writing poetry to celebrate, commemorate, or capture your own feelings (in which case you, the poet, are the center of the poem’s universe)
towards writing poetry in order to generate feelings in your reader (in which case the poem exists entirely to serve the reader).
This discusses Creative form of writing and how it differs with Academic and Technical forms of writing. It also covers the important literary devices: Imagery and Figures of speech.

For the benefit of those who came to my talk on writing for children and teenagers at York Festival of Writing, 2014. It will not make much sense if you weren't there, though you may find some useful tips at the end.
These are the most common literary terms taught in introductory English courses. If you master these, you will perform well in any high school or college English class you take. I look forward to working with you on these.

At the 10/15/2014 Parent Ed talk, Principal Heather Swanson Johnson gave a fascinating presentation about Catharine Blaine's Writer's Workshop. Her talk reminded me how fortunate we are to have passionate educators like her and Ms. Lily in our children's lives.
Even if you missed Heather's dynamic delivery of this PPT, you'll see her main takeaways from her talk about Writer's Workshop. Hope to see you at the next Parent Ed night!

A Strategic Approach: GenAI in EducationPeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.
