“TEACHER AS THE
CURRICULUM EVALUATOR”
PREPARED BY: MIKEE ANNE L. LUCERO 
What is Curriculum Evaluation?
 Curriculum evaluation is a component of
curriculum development that responds to public
accountability.
 It looks into educational reforms or innovations
that happen in the teacher’s classroom, the
school, district, divisions or the whole
educational system as well.
 It is establishing the merit and worth of
curriculum. Test results will only be used as one
of the pieces of evidence of evaluation. For at
the end, the purpose of evaluation is to improve
not to prove.
What is the purpose of Curriculum
Evaluation?
 The purpose of evaluation is to gather data
that enables one to decide whether to accept,
change, eliminate the whole curriculum.
 To know how to improve the curriculum.
 To identify the strengths and weaknesses as
well as the problems encountered in the
implementation, to improve the curriculum
development process.
Why we Evaluate the Curriculum?
 The need to evaluate curriculum arises
because it is necessary for both teachers
and students to determine the extent to
which their current curricular program and
its implementation have produced positive
and curricular suitable outcomes for
students.
The role of the Teacher in Evaluation
 A teacher's role in curriculum evaluation affects the
school's choice of textbooks, as well as the adoption of
special programs to augment educational standards.
Classroom instructors examine the curriculum's objectives
to determine the relevance of the materials.
 This final role of a teacher- to evaluate- is vital to a
teacher’s success. It is this role that allows the teacher to
discover the worth of their work. Teachers must find the
value in what they do. Most fields of endeavor have some
measure of success
Teaching Process
Planning
EvaluatingImplementing
 Planning involves developing learning objectives,
designing the method to achieve the objectives and
deciding on the assessment to determine if the objectives
have been achieved.
 The implementation of the plan involves putting the plan
into action. Success often rests with the ability of the
teacher to manage students and the classroom
environment.
 Evaluation is a subjective process. Teachers and
administrators evaluate lessons, textbooks, programs and
students. They even evaluate each other.
