Unit 57: Photography and Photographic Practise
Project Proposal
(P2, P3, M2, M3, D2, D3)
Candidate
name: Shauna
Leacy
Theme: Music Magazine Portrait Photo Shoot
Predicted final outcome
I’m going to be taking pictures for a music magazine genre of my choice they will
be shot as a portrait. I will be taking a minimum of 50 photos to then select the best
10, they will be pictures of people and somewhere that looks music related maybe
some pictures of instruments I want to make them as music related as possible to
get the message out that they are for a music magazine. The subject in the photo
will be doing something in the photo some could be smiling and others could be an
action shots. They would match the chosen music genre.
Reasons for selection of theme (including inspiration from the work of
others)
These images will be for a music magazine in a portrait style
Sebastian Kim
I like the way they look simple and natural as if they were taken spontaneously
Instead of them looking directly at the camera also I like the black and white effect
giving it at ‘edge’. They all have very similar styles being dark and ‘mysterious’
Q Magazine
I like the close up image of the first one it frames her and is focused on her face because
she is a popular artist people will notice her instantly the others are group photos which all
gets to show them each it wouldn’t work having close ups with a group unless they
had separate covers but i like the way it fits.
Billboard Magazine
The first and last image are both close up a lot simialr to what I want the typical
portrait ‘look’ of the face and then slightly zoomed out to show more of their body
framing them more I like the style of the magazine not always making the main
image centrerd but slight off to the side
The photo imaging equipment and medium that will be used and why
I have two options with what camera I could use one being the Canon 7D and the
other being the Nikon D3100, with the canon 7d I could change the lens and use
the depth of field one so I could take pictures and focus on the person in the image
and have the background out of focus also the shutter speed having used this
camera more than the other I can work the shutter speed, ISO etc. easier. I could
use the Nikon D3100 which I could get good quality images from.
The Canon 7D is what I used
Techniques that will be used and how they will help convey the visual
message
Rule of thirds will be a main technique framing the image and making sure the most
important and interesting points are framed the way I want.
I could have some very close up to the person and others shoulders upwards don’t
want them all to be to similar.
Location of shoot Emily Aldred’s house
Risk and health and safety considerations
I will complete a risk assessment
