There are over 850,000 young people in the UK diagnosed with a mental health condition, affecting how they think, feel and behave. Common conditions include depression, anxiety, and psychosis. Depression causes feelings of sadness and hopelessness, while anxiety causes feelings of fearfulness and constant worrying. Psychosis causes unrealistic perceptions through hallucinations and delusions. Support services for young people include CAMHS through the NHS which provides psychologists, social workers, psychiatrists and nurses. Salford City College also offers free counseling to students to help with personal or practical issues like depression, anxiety, family problems and exam stress.

1. Youth Mental Health
There are more than 850,000 young people in the UK alone who havebeen
diagnosed with a mental health condition. Mental health illnesses affect the
way you think, feel and behave and therefore havea serious impact on a
persons every day life, there are a number of different types of mental health
conditions that many young people suffer fromranging fromgeneral to
severe, below is a list of some of these illnesses and the symptoms which
accompany them:
Depression: Depression can effect people in a variety of different ways, with
symptoms ranging fromfeeling sad, hopeless, loosing interest in things you
once enjoyed, constant tiredness and lack of both sleep and appetite.
Depression can vary frommild to severe, with people suffering frommore
severe depression often experiencing suicidal tendencies.
Anxiety: Anxiety refers to feeling of fearfulness, tension and constant worrying,
although everyone experiences symptoms of anxiety at some points during
their life, anxiety becomes a problem when it interferes with a persons
everyday life and thereforepreventing themfromliving their normal lives.
There are a variety of different anxiety conditionssuch as social anxiety,
acute stress disorder, post traumatic stress disorder and agoraphobia.
Psychosis: Although Psychosis is not classed as a specific mental health illness,
it is a range of symptoms which accompany a number of serious mental
health illnesses such as schizophrenia, bipolar and severedepression.
Psychosis causes a person to perceive or interpret things in an unrealistic way
due to hallucinations, be this auditory or visually and delusions in which a
person firmly believes something that is proved to be surreal.
There are various other mental health illnesses which also affect young
people such as schizophrenia, bipolar and OCD.
Support services for young people sufferingfrom mental illnesses:
CAMHS - Is a NHS mental health service which focuses on the needs of
children and young people, CAHMS consists of a number of a number of
specialists including psychologists, social workers, psychiatristsand nurses.
EDIT - Early intervention is also a mental health services which focus on young
people, consisting of similar specialists including psychologists and social
workers, although EDITis for those young people showing early signs of
psychosis and are at risk of developing seriousmental health illnesses such as
schizophrenia, schizoaffective disorder and bipolar.

2. Salford City College Support:
Salford city college provides a free counselling service to all full time
students in order to help them with any personal or practical issues,
providing a place for students to talk about any worrying issues they
may have such as feeling depressed, anxiety, family and relationship
problems, exam stress and bullying.
