Target Audience Questionnaire Results.
Afterreleasingaquestionnaire askingwhatgenresof musictheylistento,toa range of people from
differentages,Icollatedthe resultsandcame tothe conclusionthatthe targetaudience formy
genre wasages 18-25. To thencarry out furtherresearchintomytarget audience’sexpectationsfor
the genre I sentout anotherquestionnaire topeople betweenthe ages18 and25 of both genders.
The aim of thiswas to discoverwhatitwas myaudience likedaboutthe genre andwhatstyle of
musicvideotheyassociatedwiththe genre sothatIcan constructmy ideasina way that conforms
to the conventionsof the genre.
Firstly,Iwantedtofindout whatlisteningtothe musicmakespeoplethinkof,orwhatthe songsare
associatedwithintermsof feelingandlyrics.Fromthe resultsof myquestionnaire,itisclearthat
the most commonassociationtothe genre or whatthe audience thinkthe musiclinkstoiswritten
about,is relationships.ThisissomethingIwill considerwhendraftinginitial ideasformyvideo.
Whenparticipantscircled‘other’some of the ideastheywrote downincluded:Travelling,just
relaxingandchillingoutimplyingafeelingratherthanstate of being.

musicvideoof thisgenre.Thismaybe due to the moodof the musicor the narrative of the lyricsbut
mostpopularlocationswere ‘ahouse’or‘an openspace’,Ifindthisinterestingasthese are both
verycontrastinglocationsandthuswill create dynamicforthe videoasI can workeffectivelywith
the proxemicsof the actors to conveymessagestothe audience if Ichoose touse these locationsin
my final idea.ThisinformationalsolinkstoanothervideoIanalysedwithinmygenre thatwasbased
ina domesticlocation,ahouse,indicatingme amaybe a genre convention.
Finally,Iaskedwhatstyle of musicvideomyaudience wouldexpectformygenre.Itisclear that
‘Narrative’isthe mostpopularforthe videoandso I will keepthisinmindwhendevisingmyidea.
Howeverbothconceptandperformance were chosento.Thisisinterestingaswithinmygenre
researchthe three videosIanalysedincorporatedall three betweenthemindicatingthere isno
particularstyle linked withthe genre,butlinkedmore directlywiththe song.
