Taarifa is an open source platform for collecting and mapping citizen reports. It allows people to submit reports via SMS, web forms, email or Twitter, and places them in a workflow where they can be followed up on. The goal is to engage citizens and communities to improve public service delivery and address issues. Taarifa is currently built on PHP/MySQL but is transitioning to a Python/JavaScript API and GeoDjango to improve its functionality as a cross-platform mobile and web app.

Taarifa is a system that allows citizens in less developed countries to report water and sanitation issues through SMS, a web form, or Android app. It uses Ushahidi as a base and adds functionality like geocoding SMS messages, assigning reports to work teams, and notifying citizens about progress. The goal is to improve sanitary conditions by providing a channel for issue reporting and feedback while being accessible through basic phones. It will be demonstrated to Tanzanian officials with the aim of the project being adopted locally to create solutions and jobs within the community.

The aim of the mobile app developed is to retrieve reports and data from users about illegal fishing and other behaviours. Users get notifications based on the real time analysis of vessel traffic retrieved from the Automatic Identification System (AIS). Finally, accessing ESA Copernicus Sentinel 1 satellite radar images to confirm the data reported by users and AIS, it would be possible to join then three independent evidency sources to have a strong argument at court.

In this talk, I will introduce the future technical and social impact of open data on the open platform. Nowadays, web technology, whose process of standardization is open and independent of vendors, has evolved into an application platform on various devices such as PC, mobile and embedded devices. Developers of web-standards and web-based application are now trying to integrate a map technology tightly into the web standards for the future mobile web-based applications. As an organizer of a workshop aiming to discuss the future web-based map technology, I will introduce emerging technology and discussion in this area. At the workshop I held in Tokyo, Japan in 2012, many developers and researchers in various communities such as OpenStreetMap, FOSS4G, HTML5, and Linked OpenData gathered and had an enthusiastic discussion. I will summarize the discussion and future perspective at the workshop in my talk in order to discuss future technical and social possibility of OpenStreetMap on web-based open platform.

These processes must be translated into so-called star schemas, which means, denormalised databases where each table represents a dimension or facts. This event will adopt a hybrid format, allowing participants to join us either through an online Mircosoft Teams session or in person at TU/e located at Den Dolech 2, Eindhoven, Netherlands. The meet-up will be hosted by Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e), a research university specializing in engineering science & technology. Power Grid Model The global energy transition is placing new and unprecedented demands on Distribution System Operators (DSOs). Alongside upgrades to grid capacity, processes such as digitization, capacity optimization, and congestion management are becoming vital for delivering reliable services. Power Grid Model is an open source project from Linux Foundation Energy and provides a calculation engine that is increasingly essential for DSOs. It offers a standards-based foundation enabling real-time power systems analysis, simulations of electrical power grids, and sophisticated what-if analysis. In addition, it enables in-depth studies and analysis of the electrical power grid’s behavior and performance. This comprehensive model incorporates essential factors such as power generation capacity, electrical losses, voltage levels, power flows, and system stability. Power Grid Model is currently being applied in a wide variety of use cases, including grid planning, expansion, reliability, and congestion studies. It can also help in analyzing the impact of renewable energy integration, assessing the effects of disturbances or faults, and developing strategies for grid control and optimization.
