Growing Up on Death Row: The Death Penalty and Juvenile Offenders in Iran
Scores of youths in Iran are languishing on death row for crimes committed under the age of 18, said Amnesty International in a damning new report published today. The report debunks recent attempts by Iran’s authorities to whitewash their continuing violations of children’s rights and deflect criticism of their appalling record as one of the world’s last executioners of juvenile offenders.
Growing up on death row: The death penalty and juvenile offenders in Iran reveals that Iran has continued to consign juvenile offenders to the gallows, while trumpeting as major advances, piecemeal reforms that fail to abolish the death penalty against juvenile offenders.
“This report sheds light on Iran’s shameful disregard for the rights of children. Iran is one of the few countries that continues to execute juvenile offenders in blatant violation of the absolute legal prohibition on the use of the death penalty against people under the age of 18 years at the time of the crime,” said Said Boumedouha, Deputy Director of Amnesty International’s Middle East and North Africa Programme.

Connecting With the Disconnected
Keynote address (Feb, 2016) to the educators in the Fort Nelson school district. We all know that we cannot teach a child without a concection... without a relationship. In the hustle and bustle of our jobs as educators, we often forget our why, the reason we got into education, of trying to make a difference with kids. In this talk, 6 Keys to Connecting are shared and discussed with the challenge of creating a more positive climate and better connections with kids in our classrooms, schools, and organizations.
The changing demographics of the uninsured in MN and the nation
The document analyzes changes in the demographics of the uninsured in Minnesota and nationally between 2013 and 2014 following coverage expansions under the Affordable Care Act. It finds that uninsured rates declined significantly in both Minnesota and all 50 states. While the characteristics of the uninsured remained largely the same, the uninsured population is now more likely to be Hispanic, non-citizens, and Spanish speakers in both Minnesota and nationally. The uninsured are also less likely to be children in Minnesota and very low income or Asian nationally. Continued outreach efforts are needed to enroll groups with historically high uninsurance rates.

Overview of the Asian American market and influences and factors of the segment's participation in philanthropy
Why do people become foster parents
This document summarizes surveys of local and nationwide foster parents. For local respondents, the top reasons for fostering were kinship care (30%) and having experienced abuse or neglect themselves (23%). Nationwide, the top reasons were a desire to add to their family (46%) and religious calling (15%). Both surveys found that the majority of foster parents were female, married, and between 31-40 years old. Most local respondents fostered to foster (60%), while nationwide most hoped to foster to adopt (65%). The document concludes by considering trends in foster care referrals in Washington state and whether fewer children needing foster care could lessen the foster parent pool.

New prevention methods like PrEP drugs and greater access to antiretroviral therapy have helped control the epidemic. The COVID-19 Societal Impact Project (CSIP) seeks to utilize the power of public opinion research to examine and understand important societal changes unfolding during the COVID-19 era
Foreign Labor Migration Report_June 22 (1)
This study examined the migration processes and impact of remittances among 300 households in Nepal that have current or returned migrant workers. It found that most migrants were male and traveled through informal channels like agents or friends rather than safe government programs. Many paid over the legal service charge limit to migrate. Remittance amounts increased with longer stays abroad, and more educated migrants sent more money home. Households primarily used remittances for daily consumption rather than investment. The study aims to inform programs supporting safe migration and financial literacy.
Final Report
The survey assessed the knowledge of 46 attendees of a community event on sexual health issues. The key findings were: 1) 64% correctly identified Syracuse as having the highest rate of syphilis infections. 2) 83% correctly said all populations are at risk for HIV/AIDS. 3) 61% would get tested at a doctor's office. 4) 98% knew the main service provided is HIV/AIDS education. 5) 56% understood PrEP prevents HIV. However, the small sample limits generalizing the results.

Combined Illegal, Unregulated and Unreported (IUU) Vessel List.
The best available, up-to-date information on all fishing and related vessels that appear on the illegal, unregulated, and unreported (IUU) fishing vessel lists published by Regional Fisheries Management Organisations (RFMOs) and related organisations. The aim of the site is to improve the effectiveness of the original IUU lists as a tool for a wide variety of stakeholders to better understand and combat illegal fishing and broader fisheries crime.
To date, the following regional organisations maintain or share lists of vessels that have been found to carry out or support IUU fishing within their own or adjacent convention areas and/or species of competence:
Commission for the Conservation of Antarctic Marine Living Resources (CCAMLR)
Commission for the Conservation of Southern Bluefin Tuna (CCSBT)
General Fisheries Commission for the Mediterranean (GFCM)
Inter-American Tropical Tuna Commission (IATTC)
International Commission for the Conservation of Atlantic Tunas (ICCAT)
Indian Ocean Tuna Commission (IOTC)
Northwest Atlantic Fisheries Organisation (NAFO)
North East Atlantic Fisheries Commission (NEAFC)
North Pacific Fisheries Commission (NPFC)
South East Atlantic Fisheries Organisation (SEAFO)
South Pacific Regional Fisheries Management Organisation (SPRFMO)
Southern Indian Ocean Fisheries Agreement (SIOFA)
Western and Central Pacific Fisheries Commission (WCPFC)
The Combined IUU Fishing Vessel List merges all these sources into one list that provides a single reference point to identify whether a vessel is currently IUU listed. Vessels that have been IUU listed in the past and subsequently delisted (for example because of a change in ownership, or because the vessel is no longer in service) are also retained on the site, so that the site contains a full historic record of IUU listed fishing vessels.
Unlike the IUU lists published on individual RFMO websites, which may update vessel details infrequently or not at all, the Combined IUU Fishing Vessel List is kept up to date with the best available information regarding changes to vessel identity, flag state, ownership, location, and operations.

This report explores the significance of border towns and spaces for strengthening responses to young people on the move. In particular it explores the linkages of young people to local service centres with the aim of further developing service, protection, and support strategies for migrant children in border areas across the region. The report is based on a small-scale fieldwork study in the border towns of Chipata and Katete in Zambia conducted in July 2023. Border towns and spaces provide a rich source of information about issues related to the informal or irregular movement of young people across borders, including smuggling and trafficking. They can help build a picture of the nature and scope of the type of movement young migrants undertake and also the forms of protection available to them. Border towns and spaces also provide a lens through which we can better understand the vulnerabilities of young people on the move and, critically, the strategies they use to navigate challenges and access support.
The findings in this report highlight some of the key factors shaping the experiences and vulnerabilities of young people on the move – particularly their proximity to border spaces and how this affects the risks that they face. The report describes strategies that young people on the move employ to remain below the radar of visibility to state and non-state actors due to fear of arrest, detention, and deportation while also trying to keep themselves safe and access support in border towns. These strategies of (in)visibility provide a way to protect themselves yet at the same time also heighten some of the risks young people face as their vulnerabilities are not always recognised by those who could offer support.
In this report we show that the realities and challenges of life and migration in this region and in Zambia need to be better understood for support to be strengthened and tuned to meet the specific needs of young people on the move. This includes understanding the role of state and non-state stakeholders, the impact of laws and policies and, critically, the experiences of the young people themselves. We provide recommendations for immediate action, recommendations for programming to support young people on the move in the two towns that would reduce risk for young people in this area, and recommendations for longer term policy advocacy.
