Swine Flu is a respiratory illness in pigs that can infect humans. While rare historically, cases increased recently leading to a global pandemic. In Mexico from March to April 2009, 854 cases and 59 deaths were reported. All cases had a history of travel to Mexico or contact with a confirmed case. The virus is a triple reassortant strain combining human, avian, and swine influenza viruses. Symptoms include sudden fever, cough, and sore throat. Transmission occurs through close contact with an infected individual.
