3. INTRODUCTION OF SBM
• SWACHH BHARAT MISSION was launched on 02 oct
2014 on the 145th birthday of mahatma gandhi by our
honourable prime minister narender modi at rajpath.
• The estimated cost of the project is about 1.96 lakh
crores.
• The prime target of the mission is to make india ODF
and aware people about sanitation.
• The government is aiming to achieve it by 02 oct 2019
on the 150th birthday of mahatma gandhi.
• PM asked every indian to give 100 hrs every year for
SBM.
5. NEED OF SBM
• India topped the list of countries where people
practice open defecation with 626 million people
i.e more than the twice of sub-total of next 18
countries.
• According to WHO report of air quality of delhi
only 1 day out of every 15 days is suitable for
human.
• 13 indian cities listed among the 20 most
polluted cities with delhi at the top.
• Spread of diseases like diarrhoea and other
vector borne diseases.
• Loss of wealth of country due to health problems
of its citizens.

10. SOLID WASTE MANAGEMENT UNDER SBM
• Solid waste management is a crucial component of swachh bharat
mission because in an estimation urban india generates about 47
million tonnes of solid waste every year.
• Technology is being used on a large scale to convert waste into
wealth in rural and urban areas in the form of biofertilizers and
different forms of energy.
• 6 solid waste management plants are established under SBM to
generate power from garbage at –
1. Hyderabad
2. Ghazipur
3. Narela-bawana
4. Jabalpur
5. Telangana
6. Chennai

16. LAUDABLE JUDGEMENT OF
UTTARAKHAND HIGH COURT
• On 20th march 2017 UK high court recognised Ganga
and Yamuna as living entities that have seen years of
damage at the hands of humans.
• The recognition came while court was hearing 2014
public interest litigation (PIL) by the bench of justice
rajiv sharma and alok singh.
• In addition just after 10 days, Gangotri and Yamunotri
also declared as living entities.
• A similar judgement was also seen when newzealand
court declared its third largest river; Whanganui as
living entity and appointed two people as its guardian.
17. TALK ABOUT OUR STATE HARYANA
• CM manohar Lal launched SBM on 01 nov 2014
from faridabad.
• Haryana ranks 4th in cleanest state from 6th in
2015 and gurugram and faridabad are on 37th
and 51th respectively in cleanest city list by NSSO.
• Upto dec 2016 16 district; panchkula was first,23
blocks,19 cities, 5948 GPs and 6636 villages
including janoli and tilpat have been declared
ODF.
• In haryana 90.2% people have household toilets.
18. TALK ABOUT OUR CITY FARIDABAD
• 22 GPs and 27 villages has been declared as
ODF.
• Sec-16 is identified as the cleanest locality of
faridabad.
• A monthly magazine is released by municipal
corporation,faridabad depicting about the
progress of SBM.
• ‘Life is better without litter’ slogan shouted by
deputy commissioner sh sameer pal.

• About 2.5 crores toilets have been constructed
from oct 2014 to dec 2016.

• 100% - 2019
21. • Railway set a target of making entire network
discharge free zone by sept 2019.
• As of june 2016,railway has installed about
3700 bio-toilets,40,000 are being installed and
30,000 more to be installed .
• Indian army conducted ‘swachh bharat
swachh himalaya’ from 12 0ct to 25 nov
2014.
