DEMOGRAPHIC RESEARCH
THRILLER SURVEY ANALYSIS
Demographic
Research Thriller
Survey
In order to complete my survey I had
shared the link on 4 different types of
social medias in order to have more
people complete it and have an over
reliable result for my thriller film, this
was much better to do as it meant that I
had different age groups take my survey
and different genders, whereas if I had
only my peers in my class take it, it
would have been less accurate.

RESULTS- Question 1
I used the question ‘what is
your gender?’ first to show
the difference in how many
people who answered who
were male or female. From
this bar graph you can see
that there were more
females who answered my
demographic research
thriller survey than male,
this may be because
females tend to watch more
thriller films than males.
From this graph you can
see that most people
that had taken the
survey had favourite the
sub-genre action thriller
films, this had the
highest percentage of
33.33% whereas political
thrillers only had 0%
suggesting no one is into
watching films about the
government but are
more prone to watch
action thrillers as they
are filled with more
excitement.
Question 2
Question 3
Overall most people believe that suspense and
the storyline is the things that make up a good
thriller emphasising the fact that people love
feeling the excitement and prefer having the
thrill but this cannot happen without a good
storyline.
Question 4
Thriller always have an
important element in the
film and that is what
makes up the thriller film
itself, from this graph
most people believe that
the plot is the most
important, measuring
59.26% on the other
hand only 7.41% people
thought that
props/costumes and
other were important.
The other things
that were specified
were sound and
star power which is
a person who acts
in a lot of thriller
films
Question 5
From these results I have gathered in question 5 most people dislike the fact
that most thriller films are very typical and as they are very typical and
repetitive, overtime they eventually become boring so the population of the
audience is decreased and also, some mysteries are never explained and
therefore the audience do not really understand what is going on so they also
stop watching thriller films because they’d rather not have to question every
moment of the film.
Question 6 In Question 6 most people
believe that thriller films
are set in the city, the
overall result it has shown
to be is, 70.32% whereas
the suburbs, deserts and
coastal are more calmer
areas where people tend to
be relaxing, in the city most
people are always busy and
you get more thrills there as
it is a popular area.

Question 7
From this question , other than the
other box response, most people
who took the survey prefer to stay
home, this measures up to 22.22%,
I asked this question to clarify the
ideal location I could use for my
thriller film opening as it’ll give me
an idea of what people prefer to do
every Saturday. However only
7.41% usually like to spend their
Saturday’s going cinema, this could
be because there are not new films
coming out every week therefore it
will eventually get boring after a
while.
Question 8
The mise-en-scene
consists of the props,
lighting, costumes and
location. From the
survey I had people
taken, people have
thought to believe that
the mise-en-scene is
very important, the
percentage was 2.29. I
asked this question
because I personally
believe it is the most
important because
without the location and
props etc the movie is
not complete.
Question 9
There is always a specific element
that appeals to an audience, from
this survey that I have had people
take, most people appeal to the
surprising twists, this may be
because most people like having
mysterious plots that they have not
expected. This measured 59.26%,
whereas the directors had the least
measuring 11.11%, as directors are
never really featured in the film
however without the directors,
there would be no movie.
Question 10
Overall I chose for my last question to be ‘how much would you
rate a thriller film?’ . This is because
I wanted to find our overall what people generally think of thriller
films and so I used a scale of 1 to 5. From this most people have
rated the overall thriller genre to be 4, measuring 48.15%
suggesting it is highly loved by particularly the age groups of 16-
24. No one rated the thriller genre 1, this suggest people enjoy this
particular genre.
