THRILLER OPENING PITCH
By Shanice Khalef
What Sub-genre am I going to use?
The sub-genre I plan to use is psychological thriller. Psychological
thrillers highlight the abnormal psychological state of a character in
a film. The effect of this is usually to create a mystery plot, drama or
action type of plot, this allows the suspense and tension to build up
more thoroughly for the audience allowing more viewers to want to
join and watch and also leaving the audience questioning why the
character is doing this.
An example of a psychological thriller that contains these elements is
the film called ‘The Stepfather’, the man gets married to the woman
and treats her well but all this time he was only planning how to kill
them, although she never done anything to him, he still wanted to
hurt her and her family.
My Intended Target Audience
My thriller opening film will be targeted at young people age
from 16 to 24. This is because young people are the ones
who ten to visit the cinemas to watch thriller films rather
than adults as they are much more busy with work and
children always tend to be age restricted. I also have
chosen to have my target audience as young people
because it is usually more relatable and it is more thrilling
to them and appealing because of the young characters and
the audience.
Setting:
The location I would like to use for my thriller opening is the outside of a
restaurant, when the sky is dark and the characters are more prone to
danger. I have chosen the outside of a restaurant because it is usually
busy and I don’t want to isolate my character yet- this is because I would
like the suspense and tension to build up later on where we just start at a
normal scene where everything is normal then suddenly something bad
happens.
My Idea:
To begin with, the scene with start with four
girls finishing dinner at a restaurant talking
about one of the girls who keep receiving
weird anonymous messages but only thinks
it someone pulling a prank, the girls the
leave the restaurant. As we get up three of
the girls go one way and the last girl goes
the opposing way on her own in the streets.
She then walks ahead and hears footsteps
behind her as she turns around nothings
there so she eventually decides to speed up
and then she sees a shadowed figure later
on and just as she’s about to scream, she is
killed. After this her three friends get a text
saying ‘you’re next. –V’. Straight after this
scene the news comes on reporting the
death of a girl however they believe to think
that it was suicide.
