Surprise Luncheon in Honor of Mayor Moncrief
Mayor speechless and tearful as formerly homeless individuals give thanks for their new homes
FORT WORTH (May 25, 2011) – There wasn’t a dry eye in the house when 100 formerly homeless individuals and
Directions Home agencies gathered to honor Fort Worth Mayor Moncrief to thank him for his leadership and dedication
to solving homelessness in Fort Worth. The luncheon, hosted by the Tarrant County Homeless Coalition (TCHC) included
heartfelt thank you’s by formerly homeless individuals who are now housed as a result of the Mayor’s leadership.
During his leadership, the Tarrant County Homeless Coalition reports:
Homelessness decreased by 23% since 2007;
568 persons served through Directions Home programs moved from homelessness to a permanent home; and
The Continuum of Care achieved their 6 year goal of developing 536 new permanent supportive housing beds in 3
years
“There is no separating the success in our community in developing innovative solutions to ending homelessness and the
leadership of Mayor Moncrief. It was deeply important to persons experiencing homelessness to have an opportunity to
express their gratitude in a very personal way before the end of his historic term as Mayor of Fort Worth. This day will
give them this opportunity.” said Cindy J. Crain, TCHC executive director.
