Community Responds to Urgent Need to Provide Homeless with Valid IDs
Tarrant County Homeless Coalition to conduct ID Blitz Initiative

March 12, 2011 (Fort Worth) - In the wake of the tragic van accident that took the lives of at least two homeless
individuals last week, the Tarrant County Homeless Coalition (TCHC) will conduct an ID Blitz, an initiative that removes
barriers common to persons experiencing homelessness such as getting a copy of their birth certificate, applying for a state
ID, or acquiring a replacement social security card.

The ID Blitz initiative will take place at the 2011 Feed By Grace Unity Park "Spring Fling" event. TCHC will seek to
enroll a minimum of 100 homeless individuals in the Invisible Bracelet (IB) program. Initiated by MedStar, the IB
Bracelet program allows medical first responders to establish identity, access emergency contacts, and obtain critical
medical background information.

During the 3/12 event, TCHC will also promote the Texas Driver Responsibility Program that offers an amnesty program
for persons with surcharges that prevent homeless from securing a current ID or Drivers license because of an accrual of
surcharges.

“Many of the individuals facing homelessness are unable to be identified because they do not have proper identification,
which is frequently lost in the everyday activities of surviving while homeless,” said Cindy J. Crain, executive director of
TCHC. “This ID Blitz marks an aggressive action to eliminate this persistent obstacle, the first step for those who want to
move from homelessness to gainful employment and secured housing.”

When: Saturday, March 12th
Time: 8:30am – 12pm
Where: Unity Park - 1401 East Presidio Street, Fort Worth, TX 76102
