Over 2,200 individuals were unsheltered in Hawai'i in 2015. 2) The document examines best practices for addressing homelessness and housing from cities like Chicago, Denver, Portland, and San Francisco. These include housing first approaches and prioritizing permanent supportive housing. 3) Key initiatives involved leveraging federal funds, increasing affordable housing, improving income opportunities, and coordinating services to help reduce homelessness. Chicago reduced its total homeless population by 12% using these strategies.
