First Years are often intimidated by administration, health center, general grown-ups. JAs have been trained, and receive training throughout the year in how to handle very sensitive situations (i.e. bad grades, smelly room mates, drinking problems through to abusive parents and abortions.) If nothing else, send them to the Dean’s office. It’s a clearing house. It’s also one of the few places that will have access to a more complete picture (grades, health center records, financial picture, problems in an entry or house) International students – Jenifer H exists.
