 Understand the unusual features (Sight , smell ,
hear, sleep , sound etc. ) of animals and their
responses to light , sound ,food etc.
 Get information about some endangered animals
and natural parks
 Understand the interdependence among animals
and humans

SUPER SENSE OF SMELL IN SOME ANIMALS
1. ANTS
Ants smell the food by their antennae . When the
ants move they leave a smell on the ground .
The other ants follow the smell to find the way .
SUPER SENSE OF SMELL IN SOME ANIMALS
2. Silkworm
A male silkworm can find the female worm many
kilometres away just by her smell .
SUPER SENSE OF SMELL IN SOME ANIMALS
3. Dogs
A dog has a strong sense of smell . Dogs sniff here
and there to mark out their own area on the road .
Policeman use the dogs to catch the thieves and
detect the bombs .

4. Mosquitoes
A mosquito can smell us by the smell of the sole of
our feet and body .
Super sense of see in some animals
1. Eagle , Kites , Vultures
They can see their pray from far away.
They eyesight is so great that they are able to see
the things from 8 k.m. That we can see from 2
k.m.
Whybirdsmovetheirheadsooften
 The eyes of the most of the birds are fixed on the
side of the head . So to see around they need to
move their neck .
Super sense of seeing
Some birds like owls have their eyes on the front of
the head. They can rotate their head in 270ᵒ .
Colours the animals can see
 The animals that are usually awake during the
day can see more colours . The animals that
awake during the night can see the things only in
black and white .
Super sense of hearing
 Snakes don’t have external ears . They use
vibrations on the grounds to detect where an
object is .
Sounds to send messages
 A langur can warns others of dangers like a tiger
or leopard by making a special warning call .
Sounds to send messages
 Birds even have different sounds for different kind
of dangers.
 Fishes give alarm call by electric signals .
Dolphins make different sounds to message to
each others.
SLEEPING –WAKING TIME OF VARIOUS ANIMALS
 Giraffe :- 02 hours a day
 Koalas :- 20-22 hours a day
 Elephants :- 02 hours a day
 Deer , Sheep :- 03-04 hours a day
 Cow :- 04 hours a day
 Python :- 18 hours a day
 Cat :- 12 hours a day
 Sloth :- 17 hours a day

 Food habits :- Carnivorous Animal
 Characteristics :- A tiger can see six times better
at night than us . Its hearing sense is so sharp
that it can differeniate between the sound of
leaves and an animal moving on the grass. Its
whiskers are very sensitive to sense the
vibrations in the air . Its roar can be heard upto 3
kms away .
 What did I like about it :- It seems to me more
powerful than many animals .

AT THE END OF THE LESSON WE’ll able to  Explain the super senses  Understand the unusual features (Sight , smell , hear, sleep , sound etc. ) of animals and their responses to light , sound ,food etc.  Get information about some endangered animals and natural parks  Understand the interdependence among animals and humans
  • 3. OUR FIVE SENSES Sense Organ that helps Sense of see Eyes Sense of smell Nose Sense of hearing Ears Sense of touch Skin Sense of taste Tongue
  • 4. SUPER SENSE OF SMELL IN SOME ANIMALS 1. ANTS Ants smell the food by their antennae . When the ants move they leave a smell on the ground . The other ants follow the smell to find the way .
  • 5. SUPER SENSE OF SMELL IN SOME ANIMALS 2. Silkworm A male silkworm can find the female worm many kilometres away just by her smell .
  • 6. SUPER SENSE OF SMELL IN SOME ANIMALS 3. Dogs A dog has a strong sense of smell . Dogs sniff here and there to mark out their own area on the road . Policeman use the dogs to catch the thieves and detect the bombs .
  • 7. SUPER SENSE OF SMELL IN SOME ANIMALS 4. Mosquitoes A mosquito can smell us by the smell of the sole of our feet and body .
  • 8. Super sense of see in some animals 1. Eagle , Kites , Vultures They can see their pray from far away. They eyesight is so great that they are able to see the things from 8 k.m. That we can see from 2 k.m.
  • 9. Whybirdsmovetheirheadsooften  The eyes of the most of the birds are fixed on the side of the head . So to see around they need to move their neck .
  • 10. Super sense of seeing Some birds like owls have their eyes on the front of the head. They can rotate their head in 270ᵒ .
  • 11. Colours the animals can see  The animals that are usually awake during the day can see more colours . The animals that awake during the night can see the things only in black and white .
  • 12. Super sense of hearing  Snakes don’t have external ears . They use vibrations on the grounds to detect where an object is .
  • 13. Sounds to send messages  A langur can warns others of dangers like a tiger or leopard by making a special warning call .
  • 14. Sounds to send messages  Birds even have different sounds for different kind of dangers.  Fishes give alarm call by electric signals . Dolphins make different sounds to message to each others.
  • 15. SLEEPING –WAKING TIME OF VARIOUS ANIMALS  Giraffe :- 02 hours a day  Koalas :- 20-22 hours a day  Elephants :- 02 hours a day  Deer , Sheep :- 03-04 hours a day  Cow :- 04 hours a day  Python :- 18 hours a day  Cat :- 12 hours a day  Sloth :- 17 hours a day

  • 18. ANIMAL PROFILE  Name of the animal :- Tiger  Sound of the animal :- Growl , Roar  Food habits :- Carnivorous Animal  Characteristics :- A tiger can see six times better at night than us . Its hearing sense is so sharp that it can differeniate between the sound of leaves and an animal moving on the grass. Its whiskers are very sensitive to sense the vibrations in the air . Its roar can be heard upto 3 kms away .  What did I like about it :- It seems to me more powerful than many animals .  Any National Park or sanctuary related to it :- Sundarban N.P. , Jim corbett N.P.
