Suffixes can be added to the end of words to form new words. Adjective suffixes added to bases or roots can turn a word into an adjective or adverb. Adjectives modify nouns or pronouns, while adverbs modify verbs, adjectives or other adverbs. To form many adverbs from adjectives, simply add -ly to the end, though for adjectives ending in -y or -le, the ending changes to -ily or -ly before adding the -ly ending, and adjectives ending in -ic add -ically to form the related adverb.
