STRINGY SENTENCES
Stringy sentences- a long “string” of clauses
joined by the word „and‟ each time.

Ex.- Yesterday morning, I woke up and went
downstairs and found out that the electricity
was off and I went upstairs to get ready and fell
on the stairs and I finally got to my room and
  got dressed.
FIXING STRINGY SENTENCES…
1. Split the overly long sentence into a few smaller ones.
2. Reread sentence and decide if there are unnecessary parts that could
   be cut out.

electricity was off and I went upstairs to get ready and fell on the stairs and
I finally got to my room and got dressed.

stairs as I went upstairs to dress; but finally made it to my room and got
dressed.
STUFFED/OVERLOADED SENTENCES
Overloaded sentences-a long string of phrases
and clauses joined by various words like
  because, when, then, so, etc.

Ex. When I was younger, I loved to go bowling
because it was so much fun and my friends all
would come with me because they like bowling,
too, then after we would sometimes go to the
movies if something good was playing, then we
  would go out to eat.
FIXING OVERLOADED SENTENCES…
1. Break sentences up into smaller ones.
2. See if some phrases can be combined into the same one.
3. See if some details are not needed and can be deleted.
