Southernisation And Southernization
When studying history, one may generally focus on European culture and its effects on the rest of the
world. Southernization is the development of Southern Asian cultures and how they truly affected
most cultures on the Eurasian and American continents. Southernization, though quite unheard of by
most people, is very important to modern day Europe and the effects of westernization. Though
southernization incorporates all of South Asia, it focuses more on the impact India had on China and
other regions. Without southernization, westernization would not have developed, logistically by
exchange of mathematics and philosophy, technologically through advancements in maritime trade,
and economically specifically the trade of produce like sugarcane.
Although the west did have its own cultivation of knowledge, the majority of westernized thinking
originated in India and other Southern Asian countries. The people of India invented Hindi numerals.
Arabs gave these numerals the title, Hindi numbers . These numerals included the concept of zero and
allowed mathematicians to make fast, accurate calculations. Once Arabs had begun using the Indians
numerals and concept of zero, Europeans were then introduced to these concepts and called them Arab
numerals . Chinese used Indian mathematical concepts but advanced the ideas which allowed them to
expand in that field of knowledge. The methods that the Chinese used based off of the ideas of
Indians, shows how methods were spread. Since the

Analysis Of Sylvia Plath s Initiation
In the short story Initiation by Sylvia Plath, the protagonist Millicent, a girl at Lansing High School is
being tried as a member of an elite sorority. The girls must go through a week of being an older sister s
servant to be then tried on Friday at Rat Court. Only the most popular girls are accepted into the
sorority. These popular girls are also the ones who get the most, popular boyfriends. Everything seems
like a dream to Millicent except for the fact that her best friend Tracy wasn t even considered.
Although she wants to belong in the sorority, Millicent finds out that things might not be as perfect as
they seem. In Initiation by Sylvia Plath, the author uses the point of view third person omniscient to

She imagines herself after initiation week as she answer[s] her invitation to enter the ballroom through
the main entrance marked Initiation (Plath 3). In her dream, entering] the ballroom can be an analogy
to getting accepted into the sorority. Millicent enters this ballroom through the main entrance marked
Initiation . The entrance marked Initiation refers to Rat Court, the process where the girls either accept
or decline her. From the tone of the daydream, we understand that being in the sorority is a dream to
Millicent. All aspects of her fantasy indicate that it is like a fairytale to her. Being able to see into
Millicent s mind helps the reader know how badly she wants to be in the group. Plath s brilliant usage
of point of view cues in the reader to see that getting accepted to the sorority is all Millicent wants.
Sylvia Plath s usage of point of view helps the reader comprehend why Millicent decides not to join
the sorority. Beverly Mitchell is Millicent s big sister. Bev is the toughest and meanest big sister there
is. Millicent must be Bev s servant for a week to prove she s worthy of being accepted. Bev is making

To let the liver function properly it is important to detect cirrhosis in early stage. Now a days several
noninvasive imaging techniques have been developed recently for detection of liver cirrhosis such as
CT, USG, MRI. In this paper we have used CT scan images of liver cirrhosis and applied some
statistical operations on those CT images such as mean, median, standard deviation and mode.
II. Methodology: CT scans are challenging because of the different image characteristics that must be
considered. Here we will be considering the statistical features of a CT scan of liver which is having
liver cirrhosis as a disease. The methodology followed is given below:
Fig.1 Flow Chart of Methodology Used
(1).Image Acquisition : To get an image of which you want to extract some features.
(2).Image Preprocessing : It is common practice to perform preprocessing on acquired CT scan images
before extracting the features of images. Here we have applied the statistical operation on the
preprocessed images After acquiring the image various preprocessing methods can be apply. The aim
of this step is to improve the quality of the image that suppress unwanted distortion and enhance the
image features which is important for further processing. Such as increase or decrease brightness,
shape, contrast, remove the noise from the image.

Buck V Bell Case Summary
Buck v.Bell. 274 U.S. 200. Supreme Court (1927). Rpt. in Bioethics and The Law. Ed. Janet L. Dolgin
Lois L. Shepherd. New York: Wolters Kluwer Law and Business, 2013. 254.
Written by Justice Holmes, the infamous Buck v Bell opinion, gives a summary and an analysis of
how the court reached the decision to uphold Virginia s sterilization statute. The case involved Carrie
Buck, an 18 year old women in a Virginia institution for feeble minded individuals, she was to be
sterilized after being found to be feeble minded. In addition to the summary of the case, Holmes raises
his concerns with having more feeble minded individuals and criminals parading the streets which
justifies coerced sterilization.
Justice Holmes opinion creates a picture of negative eugenics which makes this case a pinnacle in
coerced sterilization discourse. Written in 1927, this opinion is the only primary source on this list,
with the exception of the opinion by Justice Douglas concerning Skinner v Oklahoma. It is also
important to note that this opinion is the only source advocating for coerced sterilization.

Gay Rights Movement Essay
The start of the Gay Rights Movement
During the 1960s and 1970s lesbians began to speak up and fight for equal rights. The New York City
s Stonewall riot in June of 1969 is understood as the dawn of the gay rights movement. The 1960 s is
when lesbian mothers argued in court for the right to raise children and when they joined other
political movements like the civil rights movement; a movement that includes people of color, women
and the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer community. The civil rights movement is a battle
to receive political and social freedom and equality.
In 1973, the Roe vs. Wade case affirmed the legality of a women s right to have an abortion under the
14th amendment. This case continued for over a decade ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I m sure Professor Robert Jensen had this reflection before the year 2009, but maybe he hadn t think
of feminism in this way at the dawn of the gay rights movement in 1969. Andrea Dworkin wrote this
between 1976 1989, at a time that men didn t listen to women, and maybe researchers would argue
that women aren t listened to, especially if you re female and black.
The Shift to Marriage Equality Andrea Dworkin s essay s was more than a writer doing his or her job.
It was the impact of re developing marriage. Women had their own opinions and feelings and felt
comfortable sharing them. As the fight for same sex marriage evolved the way that gay rights activist
continued to argue for and against same sex marriage. The struggle by homosexuals for dignity and
respect at work and in life became known as gay liberation . Gay liberation is the ability to hold jobs
without having to play straight. The struggle for same sex marriage became marriage equality and
refers to a political status where homosexual married couples and heterosexual couples are considered
legally equal. For over 15 years, the two groups did not receive equal rights by law, which made
liberation through social institutions difficult. Marriage equality is important because it guarantees
benefits through social security and taxes, spousal privileges and even in death. Socially, if your
partner dies, funeral directions do not have to respect your union

Indonesia greets us.
With 500,000 hectares (six times the size of Singapore) of oil palm plantations spread across
Indonesia s archipelago, it takes a large amount of travel time to visit all locations. Hence why Golden
Agri s Chairman, Franky Widjaja, early on recognised that investing in technology would be essential
to help manage the company s vast palm oil operations. Designed 15 years ago and taking 10 years to

Hiring a contractor from another industry that just happens to offer power washing services can be

Essay on God and Daniel Defoe s Robinson Crusoe
Robinson Crusoe and God
As Robinson Crusoe salvages anything useful for his subsistence off of the shipwreck, he alludes to
his materialism.
...O Drug!.. what art thou good for, thou art not worth to me, no not the taking off of the ground, one
of those knives is worth all this heap, I have no manner of use for thee, e en remain where thou art,
and go to the bottom as a creature whose life is not worth saving...
However, upon second thoughts, I took it away... (Defoe 57)
It is easy to take Crusoe s statement literally and dismiss him merely as an ostentatious person;
however, Crusoe sees real beauty in the saving hand of God. The dominant theme in Robinson Crusoe

Even after the first stage in his adventures, which he culminates in Crusoe s amassing a modest
fortune, he refuses to follow his fathers ethics and settle down. Intent on his own inclination , as he
says, he leaves his plantation and once again takes up the uncertain life of seatrade.
But I, that was born to be my own destroyer, could no more resist the offer than I could restrain my
first rambling designs, when my father s good counsel was lost upon me. (Defoe 29) He again
provokes Providence by becoming a salve trader. As punishment his ship is wrecked in a storm, and he
escapes to an uninhabited island.
Stripped of all his illusions, limited by necessity to one small place, Crusoe is thrown back upon
himself, confronted by an immense emptiness. What is this earth and sea which I have seen so much?
Whence is it produced? And what am I and of the creatures, wild, tame, human and brutal? Whence
are we?
All of these questions predate Crusoe s religious conversion, the central and most significant act of the
novel. His answer to the question is that all creation comes from God and that the state of creation,
including his own, is an expression of the will of God.3 Upon this act of faith, he rebuilds not only his

Kid Kustomer Essay

No matter where children are or what they are doing they ll always find some sort of advertisements.
It can be when their casually watching television, reading a magazine or just playing games on their
computer. Advertisements are different forms of communication whose purpose is to make their
product known to the public. Marketers aren t partial to certain people; they target anyone and every
age group, but recently there has been an upsurge of advertisements aimed towards children. In Eric
Schlosser s article, Kid Kustomers, he demonstrates how child advertising has boomed by the tactics
marketers use to get children to want and demand certain companies products. The big boom in child

Schlosser refers to the Joe Camel ad campaign, which used a hip cartoon character to sell cigarettes. A
1991 study published in the Journal of the American Medical Association found that nearly all of
America s six year olds could identify Joe Camel, who was just as familiar to them as Mickey Mouse.
Interestingly enough, another study found that one third of cigarettes illegally sold to minors was in
fact Camels. Not only do advertisers need a way to get kids to want their product, they also need
children to be able to persuade their parents into buying them that product. The concept of children
persuading other people to buy them what they want is known as the surrogate salesmen. James U.
McNeal s, professor of marketing at Texas A M University, classified kids nagging tactics into seven
major categories; pleading, persistent, forceful, demonstrative, sugar coated, threatening, and pity
based appeals. Kids learn what appeal or style works best on their parents and stick to that ploy
whenever they want something. Observing children in their own environment allows marketers to
understand the minds of children. Advertisers conduct surveys, organize focus groups, analyze
children s artwork, study academic literature on child development and even have cultural
anthropologists observe children without them knowing. Marketers do all that research so they can get
a grasp on what children are most

Summary and Analysis of The Parson s Tale Essay
Summary and Analysis of The Parson s Tale (The Canterbury Tales)
Prologue to the Parson s Tale:
When the Manciple s Tale was done, it was then four o clock. The Host claimed that only one tale
remained. The Parson, however, refused to tell a foolish story, for Paul advised against telling false
stories. He says that he will tell a virtuous tale in prose.
The Parson s Tale:
There have been many spiritual ways that have led people to Jesus Christ and to the reign of glory.
The most prominent of these ways is Penitence. St. Ambrose claims that Penitence is the acceptance
of guilt for what a man has done and a pledge to do no more. Perfect Penitence requires contrition of

Sixth, a man should hope to forfeit sin and receive the gift of grace and the glory of heaven. This
contrition should be universal. The second part of Penitence is confession, the sign of contrition.
Confession is the showing of all sins to a priest. All sins stem from the original sin of Adam, and there
are two types, venial sins and sins of deed. The latter occur when a man loves any creature more than
Jesus. Venial sins occur when a man loves Jesus Christ less than he ought.
There are seven deadly sins. Pride is the worst of them, for the other sins, Ire, Envy, Sloth, Avarice,
Gluttony and Lechery, stem from Pride. Pride can be manifest in many forms, including the wearing
of ostentatious clothing. The remedy for Pride is humility, when a man holds himself as not worthy of
heaven, despises no other man and cares not what men think of him. Envy is the sorrow in others
fortune and delight in others pain. The remedy for Envy is love of God first and trust in one s fellow
man. After Envy there is Ire, which manifests itself in hate. The remedy against Ire is patience and the
acceptance of suffering. Sloth is the anguish of a troubled heart. The remedy for this is fortitude.
Avarice is the desire to have earthly things. Avarice can be distinguished from Envy, for Envy is to
covet things that one does not have, while Avarice is to keep things that one has without rightful need.
The remedy for Avarice is pity. Gluttony is the immeasurable appetite to eat or drink.

Capital Punishment and Methods of Execution
Capital Punishment Thirty two out of the fifty states in the United States of America accommodate to
the death sentence, with Virginia being the one of the largest contributors following that of Texas. In
1976, the death sentence was reinstated by the Supreme Court; this produced the outcome of Texas
holding the largest number of executions within all the states. Every year, people are brutally killed by
inhumane methods of death. Who s to say whether another person has the right to live or not? By
taking the life of another, is to play God. In spite of the fact that some find it to be unethical taking
another man s life, about 70% of the public agree with the continuation of the death penalty.
Methods of execution include lethal injection; being the first option for most, electrocution, gas
chamber, hanging, and lastly by firing squad; which is only legal in two states, Oklahoma and Utah;
however is it only used if lethal injection is deemed unconstitutional. Many Countries support this
ideal; however, there are those who greatly oppose of it. According to the writers on
Religioustolerance.org, Some countries, such as Italy, routinely refuse to extradite accused murderers
to the US because of the possibility that they might be executed. Canada originally refused to extradite
suspected mass murderer Charles Ng to California for a trial. The government ruling was later

Things Fall Apart Customs And Tradition Analysis
The Importance of Customs and Traditions
Religions around the world share similar fundamentals but can differ tremendously depending on what
is being practised. Although, there are some practises that are not accepted throughout our world.
Human nature tends to be frightened or uncomfortable with what we do not understand and therefore,
we judge. It is not uncommon however, it is psychologically proven that the human brain follows The
Crowd Effect. Simply put, when an individual is placed in a group scenario, the bias of the individual
can be strongly influenced. Whether or not the accepted truth is fact or fallacy. Having the ability to be
open minded and not jump to conclusions would have a great effect on our societies today.
Tradition has played a major factor throughout our world s history and continues to grow each day.
Sometimes tradition changes from its present form into a new custom. In the book Things Fall Apart
the Ibo people of Umuofia, believe that there is one creator, God, also called Chineke or Chukwu. The
creator can be approached through numerous other deities and spirits in the form of natural objects.

his prose. In any of his pieces, there s a raw sense of emotion and vulnerability that no other Romantic
shows. William Blake wrote of nature and religion. William Wordsworth wrote of the beauty of nature
and how it made him feel in hindsight. Samuel Taylor Coleridge wrote of the supernatural and a sense
of peace that eventually fades away. All of those Romantic poets used a piece of their life in their
works, whether large or small, but not to the extent that Lord Byron did. The way that Byron pours his
personal life into the prose without overtly putting himself in there, putting in emotion and internal
dialogue without being too ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Another important part in Childe Harold s Pilgrimage, Byron unknowingly gives the first glimpse into
what would later be referred to as the Byronic Hero. The Byronic Hero is usually a man who is smart
and cunning. He s sophisticated, moody, and anti authority. He s an arrogant, cynical exile who knew
himself the most unfit Of men to heard with Man; with whom he held Little in common (lines 100
102) and engages in self destructive behavior including sex, drugs, and alcohol. He was Proud though
in desolation; which could find A life within itself, to breathe without mankind (lines 107 108) which
shows that the Byronic hero did not need anyone else. While this describes most of Byron s
characters, it also describes clichéd love interests in modern day teen novels and a classic trope in film
and television. By describing himself and drawing upon himself for inspiration, Byron created
something so iconic and unwavering that, very likely, will never die down. While Byron is himself the
original Byronic Hero, other Romantics did not follow his footsteps: a fever at the core, Fatal to him
who bears, to all who ever bore, (lines 377 378) most Byronic Heroes die relatively young, in a blaze
of flames and rebellious greatness. Blake and Wordsworth died at 70 and 80 years of age, respectively.
Byron, however, died at the age of 36 fighting in

What Distinguishes Weber s Account Of Power
What distinguishes Weber s account of power from Arendt s account of power?
The concept of power has been a topic of interest of many sociologists as they seek to define the term.
Ensuring that the exercise of power is legitimate is a key integral to the concept of power in present
day. However, although the power is seen as legitimate, it also has to be exercised appropriately as;
power tends to corrupt and absolute power corrupts absolutely (Dalberg Acton, 1907: 504). Max
Weber and Hannah Arendt are two sociologists whose ideology of what the concept of power is, are at
the opposite ends of a pole. It is different in the fact that both theories approach different aspects of
power. Weber s account of power is more associated with everyday understanding and use of power,
whereas Arendt s account of power focuses more on power as a tool when speaking and acting in
concert (Goverde H. Lentner H, 2000).
Max Weber is renowned as one of the founding fathers to modern sociology. He defined power as
being, the ability of an individual or group to achieve their own goals or aims when others are trying
to prevent them from realizing them (Weber 1925b/1978:926). His concept of power unfolds
continuously as he breaks down power into two categories, coercive and authoritative. Coercive power
is where an individual exercises power through the use of force. This is in contrast to authoritative
where power is seen as legitimate. Legitimate because those exercising power do so

Dissimilarity In Tom s Duration
The producer of this film uses the dissimilarity between real and imaginative to reveal the myopic
perspective of the main character. Throughout the movie s duration, the main character, Tom, has a
distorted view of reality and his relationship with a woman named Summer. Tom s passionate feelings
for Summer cause him to exist in an imaginative state for majority of the film. After his first sexual
encounter with Summer, he is shown walking down the street in a musical like setting; dancing and
talking with strangers. At one point, he even interacts with animated birds that clearly aren t a part of
the real world. Tom is in a dream like trance whenever he is around or has an encounter with Summer.

Theory Of Games And Economic Behavior Essay
Introduction I first was interested in game theory after having learned about the topic in economics
during my junior year. I fell in love with economics and game theory was a major aspect of
microeconomics. Furthermore, the notion that a company could decide what course of action to take
based simply off of a chart astounded me. It caused me to truly wonder how such actions could occur
and how game theory truly worked. It simply begged the question, what was the underlying basis of
game theory and how did a company choose the most probable option that would increase their
profits.
Game theory, by definition, is the branch of mathematics concerned with the analysis of strategies for
dealing with competitive situations where the outcome of a participant s choice of action depends
critically on the actions of other participants. The theory was first presented via a proof by John von
Neumann. This was followed by the book Theory of Games and Economic Behavior, co written with
Oskar Morgenstern and published in 1944, establishing the field of game theory.
The theory holds a prominent place when having been applied in the field of economics and has
produced various methods for advancement and analysis. Most notably, to me, the theory provides an
ability to look into how businesses will act, especially those that act as that of a duopoly. Such a
market structure allows an in depth view that would allow a business to make a decision based on
analyzed data. Being that I am

PROCESS ANALYSIS
INTRODUCTION
There are clearly more questions than answers right now about what has caused Apple s iPhone 4
woes in particular, the phone s antenna design and the company s struggle with supply and demand.
Apple recently released the fourth generation iPhone with a design flaw in the antenna that
substantially degrades the reception when held in the palm of your hand. This, in turn, has created the
problems the company has had with meeting the needs of the consumer, as well as with the future
launch of the white version of the iPhone 4. Rumor mill says the white phone s manufacturing delays
are a direct result of Apple s covert attempt to correct the antenna design issue prior to its release. The

Employee satisfaction remains strong at Apple, with designers and engineers being well compensated.
They remain committed to the company not because of their salaries, but because of the amazing
products they are able to create. The work challenges the mind and the teams are passionate and
dedicated to the focus of the organization. Apple s future success largely hinges on the ingenuity of
these employees to overcome the iPhone adversity and present an alternative antenna design that has
less signal loss when held by the human hand.
ANTENNA DESIGN
During the iPhone 4 development process, testing was theoretically performed in house to identify any
potential technical glitches in design, performance or overall functionality of the device. Apple has
spent millions of dollars in antenna design and test labs. These advanced facilities are exclusively used
to measure the antenna and wireless performance, featuring seventeen different antenna anechoic
chambers that record antenna strength. Apple engineers logged thousands of hours performing various
signal tests throughout the two year development period. Lab tests lead to eventual field testing which
has been documented to be done under various conditions simulating realistic conditions. Apple had
ample time to discover any antenna signal loss deficiencies in the iPhone 4 design and speculation has
begun to brew as to how this issue failed to be identified long ago.
Many believe Apple was

The Most Important Qualities of Content in Research
There are three important qualities of content that researchers use as an assumption for most every
research. The first is the kind of atoms that the content is created up of. You have your fairly neutral
components and your substance components. Atom comes from the Ancient term atoms significance
inseparable. (Trefil, 2010) Atoms create up everything we can see, therefore content, and atoms have
very different qualities within themselves, as well as having different methods of being organized or
of connection together, all of which impact the actual and substance qualities of whatever is created up
of those atoms. Most components either perform electric current or don t succeed to perform electric
current. However, there is a third kind of content that is not a really excellent electric conductor, and
simultaneously, is not really an excellent insulator either. These components are known as
semiconductors, such as rubber and germanium (Trefil, p. 243). The fairly neutral components have
the same quantity of protons and electrons, which generally terminate each other out making them
fairly neutral. The substance factor offers with mixing more than one factor. The second is the way
those atoms are organized. An excellent example of this is by evaluating atoms of fluid and atoms of
shades. For example the atoms of fluids shift around freer than atoms of shades which are loaded
together. The third is the way the atoms are insured together. There are for key qualities to

Why Invest in Germany?
Germany is an excellent country to expand new products and services into as it is located in the heart
of Europe, following a constitutional monarchy with a parliamentary government and a Prime
Minister which has the power to appoint and remove ministers. As a member of the G8, Germany
contributes significantly to the world s economy. The Gross Domestic Product in Germany was valued
at USD $3634.82 billion in 2013 which is equivalent to 5.86% of the world s economy. In Germany,
more than 95% of the population speaks German as their first language.
Germany is Canada s 8th largest trading partner. Canadian exports to Germany are mainly comprised
of aircraft parts, iron ores, coal and copper. Canada s trade to Germany is primarily resource based
while Germany exports are mostly automotive parts. However, other major imports include
medicaments, medical instruments, and blood fractions.
Investing in Germany provides numerous businesses with large opportunities to expand their business
into Germany. Germany has the largest economy in all of Europe, with an access to 454 million
consumers. Productivity has risen over 30% in the past 5 years. Adding on to that Germany is also the
world s second largest exporter. The geography of Germany plays a very important role for business
opportunities. Germany is in the centre of

Piano Concerto Analysis
The piano concerto in the 1800s was still very standard. By 1850, the piano was still being used in a
conventional manner. The two Brahms piano concerti are demonstrative of Brahms employing a
classical, conservative style. The first concerto is in a traditional three movements, with a long
orchestral introduction, a slow second movement, and a rondo finale. The second concerto came
decades later and is in four movements. In the first movement, the piano interrupts the horn solo that
begins the piece. The second movement is a scherzo. The slow third movement has a cello solo
beginning the movement, giving a prominent role to the orchestra, not just the piano. The final
movement goes back to tradition. Both concerti are exceedingly long, clocking in around fifty
minutes.
Tchaikovsky also wrote all three piano concerti post 1850. These pieces also demonstrate the
influence of nationalism, showing distinctively Russian themes. The Second Concerto, similar to
Brahms, features a violin and cello solo in the second movement, creating a piano trio amongst the
greater orchestration. The Third Concerto was originally a symphony but completed as a one
movement work for piano and orchestra.
Saint Saens wrote five concerti for piano, in addition to several other programmatic pieces for piano
and orchestra, including Wedding Cake and Africa. This was a divergence in form from the standard
concerti, creating one movement works where both piano and orchestra were featured, rather than

Dysfunctional College Campuses
College campuses function as a collective organization, meaning that all of the offices and
departments play an integral role in making the college experience great. The departments need to
work together to guide students in matters such as financial aid, class registration, student accounts,
and so many more. For example, if a new student were to contact the CONNECTIONs Orientation
office and ask about their housing, the department secretary should either know how to answer the
question, or know who to connect the student with. The current issue that we are finding on campus is
that offices aren t working together. Students are being directed to a different office, each time being
told that the answer will be at the following office, and these types of experiences can make or break
whether a student wants to come back to Kutztown University. Organizational structure and
connectedness are necessary to avoid a dysfunctional campus environment. The issue does not only

The Six Sigma And Tools
2.3. Six sigma and tools
The Six Sigma improvement method is problem focused and its main objectives are decreasing scrap,
earning income and creating value (Saghaei et al, 2012). Motorola developed this concept in 1986.
There were three meanings of six sigma provided by Brue (2006). It is the level of quality that a
process assures, it is a problem solving methodology and lastly it is a management philosophy.
Alternatively it is also said to be a project driven approach to process and product quality
improvement (Ray and Das, 2010). This approach ensures the process to be 99.9996% defect free. The
performance level of a project can be obtained by subtracting the average of readings of errors in a

There are mostly two types of variation in a process. A common cause variation is an uncontrollable
variation that is bound to occur. Whereas special cause variation has a specific reason and occurs less
frequently. These variations are caused due to 5Ms; Man, Material, Machine, Method or
Measurement. These are unacceptable variations and can be developed or changed. There are six steps
and two methodologies to implement a Six Sigma project in an organization. These are inspired by
Deming s Plan Do Check Act cycle. The two methodologies are DMAIC and DMADV. DMAIC is
used for projects aimed at refining an existing business process. DMADV is used for projects aimed at
creating a completely new product or process designs.
The DMAIC project methodology has five phases. Define phase has three approaches of defining a

The Effects of High School Start Times on Teens
According to a 2015 CDC study 72% of high school students felt they were not getting enough sleep.
We ve all been there. But many medical associations agree that the effect of prolonged sleep
deprivation could be detrimental to teen health. This is why the AMA suggests that middle schools and
high schools should start no earlier than 8:30 in the morning. Unfortunately, the average starts time for
high schools is 7:59A.M and for middle schools it s 8:04A.M (NCES).Middle schools and high

According to the American Academy of Pediatrics, teenagers need 8.5 to 9.5 hours of sleep. However,
only 34% of teens report getting 8 hours of sleep on a school night (Ming, Koransky, Kang, Buchman,
Sarris, and Wagner). If we started schools later student s health would improve. It could also
potentially help prevent some bad conditions that the CDC associates with prolonged sleep
deprivation. People who do not get enough sleep are at a higher risk of diabetes, problems with
obesity and poor mental health. This would also minimize crashes during morning commutes. This is
because many teens drive themselves to school are inexperienced. If they are drowsy when driving,
they could endanger themselves and the people around them. According to an article by Fred Danner
and Barbra Phillips, delaying school start times may decrease the risk of motor vehicle crashes.
Secondly, many students academic scores would improve. This is because sleep deprived students are
more likely to have attention and behavior issues. Plus, students will absorb more information in class
because they are more focused or at the very least not falling asleep in class. As a result students
would be more productive and learn the material in class so they will be less likely to pull all nighters
the night before tests causing students to lose more sleep. This will make the classroom overall more

Modularity of Mind
In 1983 Jerry Fodor opened the introduction to his new research of Modularity of mind with the
phrase; Behavior is organized, but the organization of behavior is merely derivative . This meaning
that behaviors are simply imitations, never original nor created. Fodor created a theory of how the
mind was structured and how would perform. He studied the architecture of mind in modules; a term
that will describe that the mind had different specific structures that had precise purposes. Jesse J.
Prinz just like Fodor was a philosopher who was in opposition of the Modularity of the mind theory.
This essay will have as a purpose to create an argument on the explanation and disagreement that
Prinz wrote cluster by cluster against the theory Modularity of mind in an article called Is the mind
really modular?
Prinz publication Is the mind really modular? demonstrates a various examples and explanations,
highlighting each and everyone one of the modular systems that Fodor created. The number of
descriptions created for the modules is composed by individuals who share different points of view.
This doesn t prove that the theory is wrong, it will simply state that there is no certainty of being a
hundred percent sure. My position on this essay will be in contradiction to the approach that Prinz
argues to disapprove the Modularity of the mind theory.
Localized: modules are realized in dedicated neural architecture

businesses and information technology companies. Cloud computing involves the subscribing services
and obtaining a network based storage space as well as computer resources over the Internet.
Basically, cloud computing is the delivery of computing resources over the Internet. It gives people
and businesses an opportunity to make use of hardware and software that are under the control and
management of third party companies located in remote locations. Some of the examples of cloud
services are webmail services such as Yahoo and Gmail, online business applications, online file
storage and social networking sites. The cloud computing technology enables companies to access
information and other computer resources from any part where a network connection is available. The
technology provides a pool of resources that are shared. The pool of resources includes networks, data
storage space, and computer processing power and customized user and corporate applications. What
cloud can do for companies? There are various benefits the cloud can offer to companies. The first one
is saving costs of the cloud. Choosing cloud enables the business to save money in many ways. For

techniques and effects of persuasion on targeted audience, while at the same time referring to style and

Advertisers have applied the sex sells rule of advertising on this commercial, with the change of men
being objectified rather than women, and mixed it with humor in order to create a desirable effect.
Before turning to analysis of other techniques, it is important to mention the use of language and
sentences as well, which cannot really be seen as a persuasive technique but is a powerful tool in
manipulating audience. Sentences in the commercial are brief and straight to the point. The narrator is
confident and he knows what he is talking about no stops in between the sentences, no improvisation
and no commas, which, aside with random images, helps to create the desirable dynamic effect.
Dynamic commercial embodies the dynamic lifestyle led by the targeted audience, which consists of
young people who are always on the move and trying to keep up with the modern world.
As for the style and tone of the author, it is important to mention that the narrator states his point of
view up front, the language is forceful and persuasive, making the narrator sound arrogant and
powerful, even superior to the audience he is talking to. He is even making fun of the audience, which
is, however, not to be taken seriously, taking into account that the parodying tone is present from the
very beginning and it is clear that the intention is to make fun of the male and female stereotypes,
rather than the audience.
After analyzing the messages,

Psychological Ethical Egoism
When it comes to life every person main is goal is to make themselves as happy as possible in any
choice that they make. Students that attend college want to have fun at school and get a degree that
benefits them. A degree might cost a lot of money but the benefits of being happy with a good job in
the future is greater than the cost. Every person has one life to live why not make the best of it by
focusing only on your own happiness. Ethical Egoism is a theory that each person should pursue his or
her own self interest exclusively. Ethical Egoism and Psychological Egoism sometimes get confused
with each other but they both have different meanings. Ethical Egoism states that people ought to
pursue his or her own self interest exclusively. While Psychological Egoism states that people do in
fact pursue his or her own self interest exclusively. An example of Ethical Egoism would be that a

Southernization is the development of Southern Asian cultures and how they truly affected most cultures on the Eurasian and American continents. Southernization, though quite unheard of by most people, is very important to modern day Europe and the effects of westernization. Without southernization, westernization would not have developed, logistically by exchange of mathematics and philosophy, technologically through advancements in maritime trade, and economically specifically the trade of produce like sugarcane. Although the west did have its own cultivation of knowledge, the majority of westernized thinking originated in India and other Southern Asian countries. The people of India invented Hindi numerals. Arabs gave these numerals the title, Hindi numbers . These numerals included the concept of zero and allowed mathematicians to make fast, accurate calculations. Once Arabs had begun using the Indians numerals and concept of zero, Europeans were then introduced to these concepts and called them Arab numerals . • 22. What Distinguishes Weber s Account Of Power What distinguishes Weber s account of power from Arendt s account of power? The concept of power has been a topic of interest of many sociologists as they seek to define the term. Ensuring that the exercise of power is legitimate is a key integral to the concept of power in present day. However, although the power is seen as legitimate, it also has to be exercised appropriately as; power tends to corrupt and absolute power corrupts absolutely (Dalberg Acton, 1907: 504). Max Weber and Hannah Arendt are two sociologists whose ideology of what the concept of power is, are at the opposite ends of a pole. It is different in the fact that both theories approach different aspects of power. Weber s account of power is more associated with everyday understanding and use of power, whereas Arendt s account of power focuses more on power as a tool when speaking and acting in concert (Goverde H. Lentner H, 2000). Max Weber is renowned as one of the founding fathers to modern sociology. He defined power as being, the ability of an individual or group to achieve their own goals or aims when others are trying to prevent them from realizing them (Weber 1925b/1978:926). His concept of power unfolds continuously as he breaks down power into two categories, coercive and authoritative. Coercive power is where an individual exercises power through the use of force. I fell in love with economics and game theory was a major aspect of microeconomics. Furthermore, the notion that a company could decide what course of action to take based simply off of a chart astounded me. It caused me to truly wonder how such actions could occur and how game theory truly worked. It simply begged the question, what was the underlying basis of game theory and how did a company choose the most probable option that would increase their profits. Game theory, by definition, is the branch of mathematics concerned with the analysis of strategies for dealing with competitive situations where the outcome of a participant s choice of action depends critically on the actions of other participants. The theory was first presented via a proof by John von Neumann. This was followed by the book Theory of Games and Economic Behavior, co written with Oskar Morgenstern and published in 1944, establishing the field of game theory. The theory holds a prominent place when having been applied in the field of economics and has produced various methods for advancement and analysis. Most notably, to me, the theory provides an ability to look into how businesses will act, especially those that act as that of a duopoly. Such a market structure allows an in depth view that would allow a business to make a decision based on analyzed data. Being that I am ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The first is the kind of atoms that the content is created up of. You have your fairly neutral components and your substance components. Atom comes from the Ancient term atoms significance inseparable. (Trefil, 2010) Atoms create up everything we can see, therefore content, and atoms have very different qualities within themselves, as well as having different methods of being organized or of connection together, all of which impact the actual and substance qualities of whatever is created up of those atoms. Most components either perform electric current or don t succeed to perform electric current. These components are known as semiconductors, such as rubber and germanium (Trefil, p. 243). The fairly neutral components have the same quantity of protons and electrons, which generally terminate each other out making them fairly neutral. The substance factor offers with mixing more than one factor. The second is the way those atoms are organized. An excellent example of this is by evaluating atoms of fluid and atoms of shades. • 28. Piano Concerto Analysis The piano concerto in the 1800s was still very standard. By 1850, the piano was still being used in a conventional manner. The two Brahms piano concerti are demonstrative of Brahms employing a classical, conservative style. The first concerto is in a traditional three movements, with a long orchestral introduction, a slow second movement, and a rondo finale. The second concerto came decades later and is in four movements. In the first movement, the piano interrupts the horn solo that begins the piece. The second movement is a scherzo. The slow third movement has a cello solo beginning the movement, giving a prominent role to the orchestra, not just the piano. The final movement goes back to tradition. Both concerti are exceedingly long, clocking in around fifty minutes. Tchaikovsky also wrote all three piano concerti post 1850. These pieces also demonstrate the influence of nationalism, showing distinctively Russian themes. The Second Concerto, similar to Brahms, features a violin and cello solo in the second movement, creating a piano trio amongst the greater orchestration. The Third Concerto was originally a symphony but completed as a one movement work for piano and orchestra. Saint Saens wrote five concerti for piano, in addition to several other programmatic pieces for piano and orchestra, including Wedding Cake and Africa. This was a divergence in form from the standard concerti, creating one movement works where both piano and orchestra were featured, rather than ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 29. Dysfunctional College Campuses College campuses function as a collective organization, meaning that all of the offices and departments play an integral role in making the college experience great. The departments need to work together to guide students in matters such as financial aid, class registration, student accounts, and so many more. For example, if a new student were to contact the CONNECTIONs Orientation office and ask about their housing, the department secretary should either know how to answer the question, or know who to connect the student with. The current issue that we are finding on campus is that offices aren t working together. Students are being directed to a different office, each time being told that the answer will be at the following office, and these types of experiences can make or break whether a student wants to come back to Kutztown University. Organizational structure and connectedness are necessary to avoid a dysfunctional campus environment. The issue does not only affect the students that have to ... With organizational commitment and essential needs analysis the organization could easily make interconnected and synergistic programs to address many problems at once. • 30. The Six Sigma And Tools 2.3. Six sigma and tools The Six Sigma improvement method is problem focused and its main objectives are decreasing scrap, earning income and creating value (Saghaei et al, 2012). Motorola developed this concept in 1986. There were three meanings of six sigma provided by Brue (2006). It is the level of quality that a process assures, it is a problem solving methodology and lastly it is a management philosophy. Alternatively it is also said to be a project driven approach to process and product quality improvement (Ray and Das, 2010). This approach ensures the process to be 99.9996% defect free. There are mostly two types of variation in a process. A common cause variation is an uncontrollable variation that is bound to occur. Whereas special cause variation has a specific reason and occurs less frequently. These variations are caused due to 5Ms; Man, Material, Machine, Method or Measurement. These are unacceptable variations and can be developed or changed. There are six steps and two methodologies to implement a Six Sigma project in an organization. These are inspired by Deming s Plan Do Check Act cycle. The two methodologies are DMAIC and DMADV. DMAIC is used for projects aimed at refining an existing business process. DMADV is used for projects aimed at creating a completely new product or process designs. The DMAIC project methodology has five phases. Define phase has three approaches of defining a problem. High School Start Times Research Paper Lillian Nash Mr. Harrell Pre A.P English One The Effects of High School Start Times on Teens According to a 2015 CDC study 72% of high school students felt they were not getting enough sleep. We ve all been there. But many medical associations agree that the effect of prolonged sleep deprivation could be detrimental to teen health. This is why the AMA suggests that middle schools and high schools should start no earlier than 8:30 in the morning. Unfortunately, the average starts time for high schools is 7:59A.M and for middle schools it s 8:04A.M (NCES).Middle schools and high schools should follow the AMA s recommendations because it will improve student s health, academic wellness, and may actually help prevent fatalities in motor vehicle ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... According to the American Academy of Pediatrics, teenagers need 8.5 to 9.5 hours of sleep. However, only 34% of teens report getting 8 hours of sleep on a school night (Ming, Koransky, Kang, Buchman, Sarris, and Wagner). If we started schools later student s health would improve. It could also potentially help prevent some bad conditions that the CDC associates with prolonged sleep deprivation. People who do not get enough sleep are at a higher risk of diabetes, problems with obesity and poor mental health. This would also minimize crashes during morning commutes. This is because many teens drive themselves to school are inexperienced. If they are drowsy when driving, they could endanger themselves and the people around them. According to an article by Fred Danner and Barbra Phillips, delaying school start times may decrease the risk of motor vehicle crashes. Secondly, many students academic scores would improve. This is because sleep deprived students are more likely to have attention and behavior issues. Plus, students will absorb more information in class because they are more focused or at the very least not falling asleep in class. As a result students would be more productive and learn the material in class so they will be less likely to pull all nighters the night before tests causing students to lose more sleep. This will make the classroom overall more ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 32. Modularity of Mind In 1983 Jerry Fodor opened the introduction to his new research of Modularity of mind with the phrase; Behavior is organized, but the organization of behavior is merely derivative . This meaning that behaviors are simply imitations, never original nor created. Fodor created a theory of how the mind was structured and how would perform. He studied the architecture of mind in modules; a term that will describe that the mind had different specific structures that had precise purposes. Jesse J. Prinz just like Fodor was a philosopher who was in opposition of the Modularity of the mind theory. This essay will have as a purpose to create an argument on the explanation and disagreement that Prinz wrote cluster by cluster against the theory Modularity of mind in an article called Is the mind really modular? Prinz publication Is the mind really modular? demonstrates a various examples and explanations, highlighting each and everyone one of the modular systems that Fodor created. The number of descriptions created for the modules is composed by individuals who share different points of view. This doesn t prove that the theory is wrong, it will simply state that there is no certainty of being a hundred percent sure. My position on this essay will be in contradiction to the approach that Prinz argues to disapprove the Modularity of the mind theory. Statutes, however, are unclear as to exactly what constitutes great bodily injury. Advertisers have applied the sex sells rule of advertising on this commercial, with the change of men being objectified rather than women, and mixed it with humor in order to create a desirable effect. Before turning to analysis of other techniques, it is important to mention the use of language and sentences as well, which cannot really be seen as a persuasive technique but is a powerful tool in manipulating audience. Sentences in the commercial are brief and straight to the point. The narrator is confident and he knows what he is talking about no stops in between the sentences, no improvisation and no commas, which, aside with random images, helps to create the desirable dynamic effect. Dynamic commercial embodies the dynamic lifestyle led by the targeted audience, which consists of young people who are always on the move and trying to keep up with the modern world. As for the style and tone of the author, it is important to mention that the narrator states his point of view up front, the language is forceful and persuasive, making the narrator sound arrogant and powerful, even superior to the audience he is talking to. He is even making fun of the audience, which is, however, not to be taken seriously, taking into account that the parodying tone is present from the very beginning and it is clear that the intention is to make fun of the male and female stereotypes, rather than the audience.
