The government and media both warned people to evacuate the city and move to inland or to higher ground. By any means necessary, to leave town. For those with access to a vehicle, gas money, a place to stay and the funds to carry them over for a 3-5 days, they left.
Hurricane Katrina makes landfall in New Orleans at 6:10am. Metal gated levees located in Orleans Parish were not working so engineers used sandbags to close the levee. But a 9 foot storm surge breaks through the sandbags and the city of New Orleans begins to flood.
Over 100K people stayed in New Orleans to face
Followed by two years of dealing with the economic fallout. And just when a recovery is about to happen, BOOM!
