3. What is stoping?
Stoping is mainly used in metal mines, In which we extract
an ore body that has already been developed.
4.
5. Factors for the choice of method of Stoping:-
• Shape of the deposit.
• Size of the deposit.
• Strength of the ore deposit.
• Character of the walls.
• Geological structure of the deposit.
6. Classification of stoping methods.
There are mainly four types of methods of
stoping that are given below:-
1. Naturally supported Stopes.
2. Artificially supported Stopes.
3. Caved Stopes.
4. Combination of supported and Caved Stopes.
7. OPEN STOPES:-
• Part of naturally supported stopes
• No filling is used to support walls
• Both wall rocks and the ore should be strong
• If it will not be strong the roof will fall
• Strong ore and walls permits us to do drilling, loading and hauling.
• Open stopes is further divided into:-
1. Overhand stoping
2. Underhand stoping
3. Breast stoping
8. Overhand stoping:-
• We proceeds from lower main level towards the upper main level (i.e; RAISE)
• The ore is extracted in steps like benches by the help of drilling and blasting
• Ore body should be strong
• Inclination > 40 degree to 90 degree
• Thickness is upto 4-5 m.

11. Underhand stoping:-
• We proceeds from upper main level to the lower main level (i.e; WINZE)
• Ore body should be strong
• Inclination > 45 degree to 85 degree.
• Thickness is not more than 1.5 m.
