3. The needs of end users:
• Road users need good road conditions to drive on.
• Road users need as little car expenses as possible because petrol and car
services are already so expensive on their own, so they need to be able to
know they will not incur any more expenses just from hitting a pothole.
• Road users need a quick and inexpensive way to find out about the road
damages in order to avoid them.
• Road users need the government to help work together with the
community to make it a better place to be.
This App/wiki will help to provide all these needs to the users which have been
neglected in the past. It will provide a quick and easy way to find out about
potholes/road damages thus reducing car damages. It will bring the government
and the community together by having them work together thus bringing about
the better road conditions for everyone, making everyone happier and safer
whilst driving on the roads.
4. What is it?
• In South Africa instead of fixing the roads, a road sign is rather
just added as a warning.
• This an app can therefore be used by people to inform each other
about where the potholes are in advance, in order to avoid them.
• When someone posts on the app that there is a pothole, it is linked
to the local municipality of the area that you are linked to and they
will then get a notification of where the potholes are so that they
can be fixed.
5. What will it do?
• Connect the people of a community together
• Connect the community to the municipality/government by
• Informing them about the potholes
• Keep notifying the municipality to fix the roads
• Better the community
6. How will it work?
1. Go onto your mobile app store and find the Application and download it.
2. Once on the app, enter your province and suburb. This will link you the the Municipality.
3. When you spot a pothole go onto the app and enter the road name. (Or pin your current GPS
location using Google maps which will be linked to the app)
4. After being verified, this will notify the municipality and any other people registered for that area.
5. You will also get the notifications that others put up if your current location is near any major
potholes or problem roads.
6. The municipality/road service providers will respond and fix the road and then post to the App
when it is fixed, removing the warnings.
7. If the road is not fixed then notifications will keep being sent to the municipality and reasons for
not being fixed will be posted.
8. You can also post other issues about the community for example road works but the main reason
for the app is for the maintenance of potholes.
