Talk Title: Open Science for Covid-19 Genomics
Talk Description: Genomic science is critical in humanity’s Covid-19 response,
from tracking the evolution of this virus to designing effective drugs. In my talk, I’ll
present an introduction to Covid-19 genomics, describing what we can learn from
the viral genome, and how DNA and RNA sequencing allows us to observe what
happens when this virus infects our cells.
Although scientists and researchers around the world are under lockdown, this
pandemic is also bringing them closer, breaking down barriers and encouraging
collaboration and open data sharing. The Covid-19 Virtual Biohackathon brought
together hundreds of biological and computational experts to research Covid-19,
collaborating online and using public data. All the research performed was open
and reproducible. I will share our findings from this event, both about Covid-19 and
about free and transparent science.
Speaker Bio: Dr. Avantika Lal is a Deep Learning and Genomics Scientist at NVIDIA
and was previously a researcher at Stanford University. She holds a PhD in genomics
and has spent ten years studying the genomics of infectious diseases and cancer.
She applies machine learning and deep learning methods to analyze the genome
sequences of humans and the pathogens that infect them, and to help develop new
and targeted medical treatments.

Talk Title: Computational design of antibody drugs against COVID19
Talk Description: Monoclonal antibodies (mAb) have been harnessed by medical research to
tackle all kinds of diseases. They have seen success as treatments and preventative
measures in many diseases. Standard methods of mAb drug discovery have slow turnaround
times, however, and in the event of a new pandemic such as COVID-19, these technologies—
which universally rely on time-consuming lab work—are insufficient.
Macromoltek’s computational drug development platform is bridging the gap between
disease and treatment for COVID-19. With our platform, we can produce virus-neutralizing
antibodies against SARS-CoV-2 in a fraction of the time required for traditional methods. We
have already identified several virtual antibody therapeutic candidates which are undergoing
in vitro and in vivo testing over the next few months, before progressing towards clinical
trials.
Speaker Bio: Monica Berrondo, Ph.D., is an entrepreneur, scientist, and software engineer.
Her expertise lies in using computational approaches to complex scientific problems, in
particular, using algorithms for drug discovery and protein design. Macromoltek is a biotech
company using innovative methods to improve research outcomes and reducing the cost
associated with drug discovery through computational modeling. She completed her doctoral
degree in Chemical Engineering at the Johns Hopkins University, where she received the
NIH’s prestigious Ruth L. Kirschstein fellowship to conduct her doctoral research studying the
effects of mutations on protein structure and function. Dr. Berrondo has led Macromoltek
through Phase I and II SBIR grants from the NSF and the Y Combinator accelerator in Winter
2018. Monica strives to build a better world by bringing together a multi-disciplinary team to
work on big problems.

Talk Title: Using AI to Align Anticipated Demand During COVID-19
Talk Description:
Summary - Using AI to align anticipated demand for medical supplies by location, ensuring hospitals are properly resourced to
effectively treat those infected with COVID-19; at the same time providing tools to individuals for increased access to referenced
material for education and risk assessment.
Rates of COVID-19 are spreading at a considerable rate. At CloudMedx, we believe in planning ahead. CloudMedx has tools that
assist states, cities, hospitals, and employees to plan ahead so that resources are delivered when and where needed. CloudMedx's
Surge Predictor acts like an air traffic control for nationwide logistics and distribution of medical resources and equipment, down
to the state, city, and hospital-level. Using AI to process massive amounts of data from public and proprietary sources in real-
time, CloudMedx reduces the time between identifying an inbound patient’s needs and ensuring that medical resources are
properly allocated, because a patient’s needs may not align with what the closest hospital is able to provide.
With a visual interface customizable to individual stakeholder needs, the Surge Predict Command Center provides details on the
pandemic’s duration, its attack rate (i.e. the percentage of the population that will contract COVID-19) and surge prediction date
by location, in order to anticipate the number of patients that will be admitted at the state, city, and hospital-level, as well as
the number of ICU beds (capacity) that will be needed for a specific surge moment by location. This overview offers vital capacity
planning information for administrators, as well as for patients who are deciding which hospital to visit.

Talk Description: The outbreak of COVID-19 has placed unprecedented demands and stress
on the healthcare system. As COVID-19 continues to spread throughout the world, traditional
health care continues to struggle to deal with these demands and serve patients in a timely
manner. As a result, there has been a drastic shift towards adopting virtual care and
telemedicine in the wake of these unprecedented times. At Curai, we are building a
telemedicine platform with the mission to scale healthcare access to everyone. Our
approach to virtual care involves integrating AI with practitioners for delivering affordable
and quality care to patients. In this talk, I will discuss our AI based approach to COVID-19
virtual care.
Speaker Bio: Sindhu Raghavan leads the machine learning team at Curai, a health-tech
startup using AI to provide the world’s best healthcare to everyone. Prior to joining Curai,
Sindhu has held research and engineering positions at Netflix and Samsung Research. She
holds a PhD in machine learning and natural language processing from the University of
Texas at Austin. Her interests and work spans across several areas of machine learning
