How to make an investor pitch deck that really worksDeck Rooster
In sales, a well established principle is, before one starts pitching to a customer, one should listen to what the customer has to say. That is because if you listen carefully he will lay out his needs in front of you, letting you present your solution in a way that fits into his needs perfectly.
The principle should be equally useful while pitching to an investor while raising funds. I can’t see a reason why it won’t be. But no one seems to be suggesting “you should listen more and talk less during an investor pitch”. Probably it is assumed that we already know what investors look for in a business. Is it a rockstar team; or may be a huge market size or is it traction or a break-through technology? Or may be different investors look for different combination of those things.
Actually all of those are means towards an end. They help investors figure out something more specific and quantitative that all investors look for in a startup before investing. But what is it?
A 10x return on their investment. That is it.
That number may vary from an early stage investor to a growth stage one, but you get the point, right? Not everyone says it out loud, because it makes them look money hungry, but that is what an investor business is all about.
But, now with that knowledge, how do you tweak your pitch and your pitch deck to make an investor feel that you are offering him an investment opportunity that could deliver a 10x return? And more importantly, can your business even deliver 10x return?
The above presentation by Deck Rooster answers those questions and offers a structure (not a template) for an investor pitch deck for startups. Check it out.
A good pitch should do more than just say stuff about your business. It should present the compelling points briefly and in an order that is logical and engaging.
This is the handout from a presentation that I made at a startups workshop in Jakarta, Indonesia. I was amazed at the lack of clarity that most of the participants had in their "pitches" and the lack of understanding of the need to tailor your pitch to the audience, as well as your own objectives.
Of course, the actual presentation was less wordy, and adhered to Guy Kawasaki's 30/20/10 rule as well as the 7 x7 mode of slide presentation

The Money Path can help you look at your business differently. It guides you through a process to evaluate your products and services and their potential to earn money prior to implementation.
Startups don't win because of a great vision, but because of a superior strategy. If you want to have the superior strategy, you must simply have a better customer insight. Customer discovery principles can help you to get real insights about your customers.
The first rule is to fall in love with a problem, not your solution or business idea. You must have a clear picture what your product is hired to do. With customer interviews and different types of tests your job is to prove value hypothesis (that people are prepared to pay for your solution).
You can write down all your hypotheses on business model canvas, running lean canvas or even in a spreadsheet. Then you have to constantly sketch out alternative business models by asking yourself difficult questions and testing different assumptions.
Steps to customer discovery include developing a vision, setting the hypotheses, getting out of the building and performing a reality checks. The best way to start the customer discovery process is with the riskiest assumptions.
Important tools that can help you with customer discovery are also segmentation, personas, empathy map and value proposition canvas. After exploiting all the tools you should have a clear picture what are your customer's pains and gains and what are they willing to pay for.
When you are doing the customer discovery interviews to get the market insights you have to avoid doing any behavior predictions or being satisfied with compliments, opinions or stalling. What are you looking for is a real commitment from early-evangelists.
Remember, wrong assumptions are mother of all fu*ck-ups, and with customer discovery you can make sure you are not building your business based on the wrong assumptions.

The Roman Empire A Historical Colossus.pdfkaushalkr1407
The Roman Empire, a vast and enduring power, stands as one of history's most remarkable civilizations, leaving an indelible imprint on the world. It emerged from the Roman Republic, transitioning into an imperial powerhouse under the leadership of Augustus Caesar in 27 BCE. This transformation marked the beginning of an era defined by unprecedented territorial expansion, architectural marvels, and profound cultural influence.
The empire's roots lie in the city of Rome, founded, according to legend, by Romulus in 753 BCE. Over centuries, Rome evolved from a small settlement to a formidable republic, characterized by a complex political system with elected officials and checks on power. However, internal strife, class conflicts, and military ambitions paved the way for the end of the Republic. Julius Caesar’s dictatorship and subsequent assassination in 44 BCE created a power vacuum, leading to a civil war. Octavian, later Augustus, emerged victorious, heralding the Roman Empire’s birth.
Under Augustus, the empire experienced the Pax Romana, a 200-year period of relative peace and stability. Augustus reformed the military, established efficient administrative systems, and initiated grand construction projects. The empire's borders expanded, encompassing territories from Britain to Egypt and from Spain to the Euphrates. Roman legions, renowned for their discipline and engineering prowess, secured and maintained these vast territories, building roads, fortifications, and cities that facilitated control and integration.
The Roman Empire’s society was hierarchical, with a rigid class system. At the top were the patricians, wealthy elites who held significant political power. Below them were the plebeians, free citizens with limited political influence, and the vast numbers of slaves who formed the backbone of the economy. The family unit was central, governed by the paterfamilias, the male head who held absolute authority.
Culturally, the Romans were eclectic, absorbing and adapting elements from the civilizations they encountered, particularly the Greeks. Roman art, literature, and philosophy reflected this synthesis, creating a rich cultural tapestry. Latin, the Roman language, became the lingua franca of the Western world, influencing numerous modern languages.
Roman architecture and engineering achievements were monumental. They perfected the arch, vault, and dome, constructing enduring structures like the Colosseum, Pantheon, and aqueducts. These engineering marvels not only showcased Roman ingenuity but also served practical purposes, from public entertainment to water supply.

1. HOW TO NAIL YOUR
PITCH
IN 5 MINUTES
A quick guide to help you organize your presentation for
the final pitch at Startup Weekend
By:
Nezar Kadhem
Tomas Paulauskas
2. In today’s competitive and fierce funding climate, entrepreneurs
must stand out, and pitch their ideas in a convincing &
compelling manner. At startup conferences & Angel / VC
meetings, all you have is 5 minutes, yes, 5 minutes to step on
stage and convince your potential investors, partners, and
customers to pick you. Getting this presentation right is crucial
as it can lead to financing, buzz, and growth; AND getting it
wrong: doesn’t.
3. YOUR 1ST SEXY LOGO
SLIDE
• On your first slide, you will need nothing but a logo.
• Plaster your slick & attractive logo that you created during the
weekend
• Introduce yourself.
4. PROBLEM STATEMENT
• Nothing sounds better than starting your pitch with a
problem statement.
• And want your listeners to believe it?
• Start it off with a story.
• How big is the problem?
• Can you relate it to someone who has the pain? How many of
people are like this person?
5. SOLUTION
• The Solution is… Your Product / Service
• Right after name it, state your mantra
• A Mantra is a tagline that summarizes your business in clear and
concise framing of 2 sentences, not more.
• Clearly explain how you alleviate the pain
• Ensure that the audience clearly understands what you sell, and
what is your value proposition to your customer.
6. HOW DOES IT WORK?
• Clearly explain in steps how your product of service works
• Users Open the app / webpage
• Users login
• How do they pick the service?
• How do they pay?
• Users use your service… And are satisfied.
• Give examples. Showing off your prototype is extremely
useful.
7. HOW DO YOU MAKE
MONEY?
• Clearly describe your business model
• Show the monetary inflow and outflow between your company
and relevant stakeholders in exchange for value proposition.
• Create a diagram that demonstrates the process between you,
the customers, and key partners.
• Example:
Groupon.com
8. THE FACTS!
“As convincing as your business might sound to you, it’s important to
recognize that it is still largely untested guesses & hypothesizes that
will almost certainly change”
- Ash Maurya
• Prove that your customers want you! Go out to the field.
• Conduct surveys (Quantitative)
• Interview / Talk to your customers (Qualitative)
• Talk to your key partners
• Want to impress?
• Great to add quotes from people you spoke with “… I would
definitely pay…”
• Even better? Tell us how much they said they are willing to pay.
9. YOUR MARKET
• Who is your customer?
• Specify your target customer persona
• How big is your market?
• Give concrete numbers
• Explain how you got them
• Who is your competitor?
• How are you better?
• Differentiation strategy? Low-cost strategy? Diversification
strategy?
10. MARKETING
• What is your market-entry strategy?
• How are your going to reach your early adopters?
• What is your customer acquisition plan?
• Be creative. Most investors dislike ideas that have a high burn
rate for marketing
• Even though your business idea is promising and
scalable, you must elaborate on the small steps you will
execute to successfully enter the market.
11. BUSINESS
ECONOMICS
• Don’t confuse the judges with excel tables!
• Investors are looking for key numbers:
• What is the initial required investment to start your business?
• What is your pricing strategy? Can you back it with your customer
surveys?
• When do you forecast to breakeven?
• How many products / services do you need to sell to breakeven?
• Show a graph of where / when your
• Costs (customer acquisition costs) are going to decline. Be ready to
explain why.
• Cash flow’s are positive
12. KILLER SLIDE!
• Give a reason for us to believe that you are ready to… ROCK!
• End your presentation by mentioning:
• That you have successfully identified a customer pain point
• That you have a prototype (landing page) that you created over the
weekend.
• That you found a clear market entry strategy, and that you need (x)
amount of money to begin your venture.
• And of course… Thank you!
13. WE WISH YOU THE
BEST OF LUCK !
If you have any questions…
