2. STAGES OF THE WRITING PROCESS:
Writing is a process that involves at least four distinct steps.
The five steps of the writing process are made up of the following stages:
1. Pre-writing.
2. Drafting.
3. Revising.
4. Editing.
5. Submitting/Publishing.
3. STAGES OF WRITING:
1. Pre-Writing:
In this stage, we brainstorm ideas, plan content, and gather the necessary information to ensure our
thinking is organized logically.
The prewriting stage covers anything we do before we begin to draft our text. It includes many things such
as thinking, brainstorming, discussing ideas with others, sketching outlines, gathering information through
interviewing people, assessing data, and researching in the library and online.
In this stage we do three main things:
1. Understanding the conventions of the text type.
2. Gathering up facts, opinions, ideas, data, vocabulary, etc. through research and discussion.
3. Organizing resources and planning out the writing process.
4. STAGES OF WRITING:
2. Drafting:
In this stage of writing we construct ideas in basic sentences and paragraphs without getting caught up with
perfection. It is the stage where the pre-writing process becomes refined and shaped.
3. Revising:
This is where we revise our draft and make changes to improve the content, organization, and overall
structure. Any spelling and grammatical mistakes might also be improved at this stage.
5. STAGES OF WRITING:
4. Editing:
It is the stage of checking our revised writing line by line for mistakes or errors. It is also a proofread for
errors after writing the final copy of our writing.
5. Publishing:
It refers to sharing the final copy of our writing. Publishing comes in many different forms depending on the
purpose and audience for our writing.
