The And Medicinal Purposes Of Ginger
Zingiber officinale, commonly known as Ginger, is a prevalent kitchen spice that has both been used
for dietary and medicinal purposes around the world. A member of the Zingiberacae family, ginger is a
flowering plant that is said to have originated in India, but was harvested to extinction. It is now
cultivated predominately in India, China, and Jamaica. Although this is a flowering herb, the root or
rhizome of the plant is regularly utilized for cooking or for medicinal purposes. The powder of the
rhizome is often made into a tonic that is consumed by the patient. Ginger has been used traditionally
in various cultures as a remedy for a number of different conditions. In Bone and Mills (2013), it is

addition, 6 gingerol is a phenol that is rapidly metabolized in comparison to the rates of other isolated
components of the ginger rhizome. The metabolism rate of the compound has been documented at
about 30 minutes (Benzie Watchel galor, 2011, Ch.7 p.6). The concentration of the phenol is also
found to be higher within the tissue when compared to plasma. The combination of a high metabolism
rate and tissue concentration levels makes 6 gingerol the most bioactive component within the ginger
rhizome. The highest concentration of 6 gingerol can be found in the gastrointestinal tract (Benzie
Watchel galor, 2011, p. 6). This is important when considering treatment of GI conditions using
ginger.
Ulcerative colitis is an idiopathic, chronic inflammatory condition that is characterized by the
inflammation of the colon and rectum. This is a disorder that affects the innermost layer of the colon,
known as the mucosal layer. Similar to other inflammatory bowel diseases, ulcerative colitis results
from abnormal and increased activation of the intestinal immune system. The increased presence of
the inflammatory mediators within the tissue leads to the disruption of the mucosa and ultimately
ulceration of the tissues( El Abhar, Hammad, and

News And Newspapers
News and Newspapers
News is simply delineated as a report of a recent event; something one has not heard of before
(Websters, 282). Conceding that it is inelaborate in its definition, news is much more intricate as it
succumbs to corporate moneymaking ideologies. The corporate essence of news is prevalent in the
form of the newspaper a paper published periodically for circulating news that is sold therefore
making news a business. In business the saying goes that the customer is always right making news
subject to the demands of these consumers.
The underlying purpose of news is to provide facts upon which decisions are based (Mencher, 56). Yet
this purpose is tainted to accommodate the newspapers need to sell papers. Journalism is ... Show

Why Knights Were Respected In The Middle Ages
Did you know knights were one of the most important parts of the middle ages? And do you know if
they really followed all the rules and if they were acknowledged in the medieval age? Well, this essay
will inform us everything we need to know about why Knights were respected in The Dark Ages, and
that they respected all the rules. Now starting off, a knight is a mounted soldier, the word mounted in
the medieval age was to ride on something like a horse and that s why we see most of the knights on
horses. All knights followed the code of chivalry, knights served their lord, and knights were respected
by all. This essay will argue about whether if knights were respected in the medieval age. And this

A knight s job was to defend women and children and anyone in a difficult situation or trouble. If a
knight protected no one in distress, he would not deserve to be a knight. Now let s talk about the

represented how a knight should act and behave. A knight was said to remain a knight by his father. If
the father is a knight then most probably the son will also be a knight. Whenever a knight is at war or
at any conflict, he will have to save the people first and then engage into fighting. A knight is always
supposed to fulfill his duty. Even though the lead crucial role of the knight was to serve and protect his

The Positive Effects Of Violence And Violence In Video Games
Henry Jenkins states that the worst thing a kid can say about homework is that it is too hard. The worst
thing a kid can say about a video game is that it is too easy, meaning the harder the game, the better
the experience. The Psychological group reports that more than 90% of children in the U.S. play video
games. Among the kids between the ages of 12 and 17, the number rises to 97%. Eighty five percent
or more of video games on the market contain violence. CBS says that within reviewing more than
150 research papers, the task force found a consistent relationship between the games and the increase
in aggressive behavior. August 12, 2013 Adam Lanza shot 26 people in Newtown, Connecticut at
Sandy Hook Elementary school. Investigators went looking around at addresses in Adams GPS to find
out that he went to a theatre quit often and found out that he went to a theatre and played one specific
arcade game every time he showed up. A few times the manager had to unplug the game just to have
him leave the theatre before closing. Violent video games are active while watching tv is passive.
People learn better when they are actively involved. Players of violent games are more likely to
identify with a violent character. Violent games directly reward violent behavior such as by awarding
points or by allowing players to advance to the next games level. In some games, players are rewarded
through verbal praise such as hearing the words Nice Shot! after killing the enemy. It is well known
that rewarding behavior increases its frequency. The video game industry is the fourth largest
entertainment industry in the world. Many as 97% of U.S. kids age 12 17 play video games,
contributing to the $21.53 billion domestic video game industry. More than half of the 50 top selling
video games contain violence. In 2008 video game sales peaked with almost 300 million units being
sold. Of that amount 28% were rated teen by ESRB (entertainment software rating board) and five
percent rated mature. In 2004, teen related games made up 33% of all games manufactured and
produced while mature rated made up 12%. By 2007 teen rated made up only 20% and mature made
up six percent. While the numbers of violent video

Cultural Sensitivity In Healthcare
Cultural sensitivity is being aware of different cultures and customs and beliefs of other people and
having the skills to interact with others on a daily basis without hindering their cultural beliefs and
traditions. As health care professionals, it is very important to have cultural sensitivity and
competence so that we can overcome the barriers to communication as well as providing adequate
treatment to a patient. In health care facilities, we may come across many people who are from
different backgrounds, social classes, race, and ethnicity. In order to provide proper care, a health care
professional must be competent enough to recognize and respect patients who come from different
culture than their own. In a pharmacy work setting, pharmacists ... Show more content on

One was Humalog, which is a human insulin analog and the other was porcine derived insulin. Some
populations like the Muslim culture have a taboo against porcine products and hence they would
refuse to get treated if the doctor prescribed a porcine derived insulin. The physicians thus needs to be
aware and be able to meet the patient s preferences or be able to provide alternative drugs so that they
can improve the health of their patient. Such minor details like preference for bovine derived insulin
or a human insulin analog can only be known if the health care professional establish a good
relationship with the patient and get to know the patient and their background. Another example of a
situation where cultural sensitivity applies is during patient counseling. It is not okay to assume that a
patient s health literacy is high just because they have a college degree and not offer a proper
counseling. Especially in the case of a patient who was born and brought up outside the United States
and migrated here, they may have expert knowledge about their field of study, and do not know
anything about taking medications. It is important to gain the trust of the patients by acknowledging
and respecting their culture. At a hospital pharmacy setting, we may not come across a lot of patients,
but a clinical pharmacist will be interacting with patients from morning till evening and therefore it is
very important for them to have cultural sensitivity in order to be efficient in their

Theme Of The Absolutely True Diary Of A Part Time Indian
This book, The Absolutely True Diary of a Part Time Indian by Sherman Alexie, is about a boy called
Arnold Spirit aka Junior. He is a Native American that lives in an Indian Reservation. He isn t really
satisfied with his life, since he s pretty poor, but he gets along. He doesn t really accept himself, since
he has multiple medical problems, and he has been beaten up since he was little. When he starts to
gain more friends in this new (American) school, he starts to like and accept himself more than before.
In this book, The Absolutely True Diary of a Part Time Indian (by Sherman Alexie), the main theme is
about Arnold trying to accept himself. At first Junior didn t like himself; he was constantly beaten up,
he had a lisp and stuttered so he had no self confidence. When he made the decision to go to Reardan,
a white school, even Rowdy left him. Rowdy thought Junior was betraying their school by going away
and transferring so Rowdy didn t talk to Junior anymore. Without his best friend, Junior completely
lost hope. He was scared of the white people and did not expect them to welcome him. He was right.
Most of the Americans were cold to him and he did not try to raise his status. Many of the white
people made fun of him, and when one guy, Roger, said Did you know that Indians are living proof
that niggers f*** buffalo? (pg. 64) he felt that he had to stop it. So he punched him. Junior was

To Pimp A Butterfly Analysis
Kendrick Lamar s third studio album, To Pimp a Butterfly, sheds light on the struggle of achieving
rich and fame and the trials that come with. Rolling Stone and Billboard praised the album awarding it
the best album of 2015. The album depicts the difficulties of fame by putting the trials and tribulations
on display; the inability for those to adjust to their new lifestyle and the potential temptations that
creep in. To Pimp a Butterfly has been both a divisive and uniting factor in its emergence in popular
culture.
Kendrick Lamar grew up in the city of Compton. Lamar s father was a member of a gang in Chicago
before they moved to Compton. His mother s brothers had ties to the notorious gang the Compton

Lamar states that Although the butterfly and caterpillar are completely different, they are one and the
same. Caterpillars can become butterflies through metamorphosis, or in the case of Kendrick Lamar,
through finding their gifts and talents. A caterpillar only becomes a butterfly when it breaks out of its
cocoon.
The title To Pimp a Butterfly is in and of itself the central message Lamar is communicating with the
listener. To Pimp a Butterfly refers to the downfall (whether that be intellectually or physically) of
butterflies. That downfall occurs when butterflies become seduced by fame and fortune often by their
own desires or, in some cases, by their exploitation. A pimped butterfly perpetuates the idea that the
only lifestyle to live is one based on status and wealth.
The opening track of the album is entitled Wesley s Theory. Wesley, in this instance, is in reference to
Wesley Snipes. Wesley Snipes is known for his income tax conviction which, when juxtaposed onto
Lamar s extended metaphor, makes him a pimped butterfly. The track divides each of the two verses
into separate perspectives. The first verse is from the caterpillars perspective in the mindset of
consumption, I ma buy a brand new Caddy on fours/Trunk the hood up, two times, deuce

fortune. The second perspective is capitalist America represented by Uncle Sam. Lamar states I can

Aristotelian Tragedy Macbeth Essays
Aristotelian Tragedy: Macbeth Aristotle is known widely for developing his ideas on tragedy. He
recorded these ideas in his Poetics in which he comments on the plot, purpose, and effect that a true
tragedy must have. The structure of these tragedies has been an example for many writers including
Shakespeare himself. Many of Shakespeare s plays follow Aristotelian ideas of tragedy, for instance
Macbeth does a decent job in shadowing Aristotle s model. Aristotle describes one of the most
important elements of a tragedy to be a tragic hero. The tragic hero however must present certain
qualities such as nobility and virtue. In the play Macbeth, Macbeth is a perfect example of a tragic
hero. Macbeth begins the play coming home from battle, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, Macbeth does not go unpunished as he suffers countless dreams and illusions that drive him
to insanity. The loss of his wife also brings Macbeth to his final denouement. In the end, Macbeth is
killed by Macduff; because of his arrogance he believed he was invincible even after being told his
fate. Macbeth reaches his end through the same way he lived his life, through murder and deception.
Many argue over the fairness of Macbeth s life, but the goal of a tragedy in Aristotle s view point is to
strike fear and pity in the audience through harsh punishment upon the hero in extreme ways. Finally,
Aristotle claims that in order for a tragedy to be effective, the fear and pity must be released from the
audience through catharsis. First the tragic hero must gain some knowledge from his tragic life.
Macbeth shows this self realization in his yellow leaf soliloquy when he expresses remorse for his
actions. Also, in the end he knows he must fight until the end whether his fate is death. At this point
the audience is cleansed of the emotions of the plot and the tragedy is finished. Macbeth is a primary
example of a typical Aristotelian tragedy. It follows the structure necessary from the tragic hero, to his
downfall and ultimately to the catharsis necessary for an original Greek drama. The aspects of this
play are a perfect example of the tragedies of that

This investigation will answer the question, how significant was William Tecumseh Sherman s march

Sherman s march to the sea campaign was a major turning point in the civil war because of how cruel
the total war tactic was. The scope of this investigation focuses on how successful William Tecumseh

Alternative Sources Of Alternative Energy
Introduction Since the industrial age, fossil fuels have been used as a source of energy and power. The
fossil fuels are used and converted into coal, oils, and gasses. The products of fossil fuels are mostly
Carbon, which is harmful to the environment, leading to global warming and climate change, and O
zone destruction. These conditions cause global temperature increase, ocean acidification, rising sea
levels, health problems due to pollution, and the destruction of ecosystems (climate.nasa.gov).
Considering these issues, alternative energy sources are something that can be used to help combat
harmful fossil fuels and lessen humanity s Carbon footprint (the amount of carbon dioxide and other
carbon compounds emitted due to the consumption of fossil fuels by a person, group, etc.). There are
multiple alternative and renewable energy sources available on the market today. Some of these
include: solar panels, geothermal systems, and wind turbines; However, another alternative energy
source could be harvesting lightning. Unlike the previous alternative energy sources, lightning can
produce large amounts of power in a single strike. A single lightning bolt carries enough energy
comparable to the energy stored in 145 liters of petrol (Malavika1, Vishal, p. 23). The lightning does
not have to be built or mass produced, only the system used to harvest it. Harvesting the power of
lightning would allow for a decrease on the reliance of fossil fuels for power as well as help solve

Life Orientation Line Dancing Portfolio
10 August 2015
Section B:
Definition: a type of country and western dancing in which dancers line up in a row without partners
and follow a choreographed pattern of steps to music.
History: Line dancing originated before Christ and it originated from another kind of dance called
Contra dancing which was done in the New England states in the early 1800s. The Contra was set up
in such a way that there would be two lines facing each other one line would be men and the other line
would be woman. A couple would then step into the middle and do their own routine down the line
and then the next couple would come forward and so on and so forth.

One of the strengths that I realized while dancing was that I have a good ear for hearing the beat of the
music and find it easy to keep to the rhythm of the dance. I also found it easy to remember the steps
and the order of the steps. I struggled with the technicalities of certain steps. In the beginning I also
struggled with the enthusiasm that was needed in the dance due to a lack of confidence but this
enthusiasm increased as my confidence with the dance increased. I enjoyed learning choreography and
dancing in time to the music but I did not enjoy how some people were singled out and forced to
dance in front of the entire class. Line dancing was very beneficial not only physically but it also
teaches a lot of life lessons that cannot be learned anywhere else such as discipline and to respect and
appreciate women. I would participate in further line dancing activities because it is a good
opportunity to get to know new people and become involved in new thing and learn new skills. Line
dancing can improve confidence and self esteem so I would therefore do it again if I was struggling
with these things. I personally highly enjoyed going to the line dancing lessons as it was a way for me
to escape from the busy life of a matric student. It gave me a chance to forget about all other work and
subjects and allowed me to express myself in such a way that it relieved stress from my everyday

This wolf howl is needed towards the end of the movie, when Tyler realizes that George and Angeline

becomes more aware of the wolves, he realizes that they are not the killers that people assume they are
and his experiments, evidence and experiences will all go back with him, back to civilization. This
archetype is covered a few times in the movie, Never Cry Wolf. Beginning with the Inuit Myth, this is
shown in the movie, as Tyler finds out when he sees for himself that the pack makes unsuccessful
attacks on the caribou, so he tries to make the caribou go towards the wolves, and they eventually
make a catch, but upon examination by Tyler, the caribou is weak and diseased, showing that the
wolves only kill and eat the weak caribou, and the strong caribou stay strong. Destruction also occurs
with the family of George and Angeline, their pups are left scared and lonely, as their parents are gone
for good, killed by Mike, who has a new smile with a new set of teeth (although at first Tyler thought
it was Rosie that had killed and taken them), this brings rage to Tyler who knows he has to protect the
pups and eventually calls on the pack to come

Definition Essay On Patriarchy
Guess What? You re a Feminist! Feminism is not a radical movement or a fringe movement or an
embarrassment or a fraud. Feminism is simple. The patriarchy does exist. To identify as a feminist is
to acknowledge that women are people, and, as such, women deserve the same social, economic, and
political rights and opportunities as other styles of people (i.e., men people). To be a feminist is also to
acknowledge that the world is not, currently, a fair and just and safe place for women to exist. Because
it is not. Obviously (see: everything ever). To deny these things makes you, at worst, a bad person who

Upon deciding this, immediately, different emotions were present. I started off very optimistic and

working on creating the website, I often felt waves of sadness and even began to tear up as I presented
pieces of the project to my peers and even the students in my class. Upon completing the project, I
began to feel at ease and felt as my grandmother were alive, she would be very proud of the life
decisions I am making. The time has come to now present the final project to my father and my father

Examples Of Father Son Relationships In Long Day s Journey...
Father Sons Relationship
Long Day s Journey into Night is one of the greatest dramas written by Eugene O Neil, somewhere
between 1939 and 1941. His plays were very innovative in this period due to his experimentation with
expressionism and realism. Moreover, this particular drama involves psychological intrigues within a
seemingly dysfunctional family. Namely, the Tyrones dysfunctionality is presented by single day
ongoing in which the readers/audience can find out the causes of the family s discord.
The dominant theme of the play is the past. It shaped the relationship between James Tyrone and his
sons: Edmund and James Jr. Furthermore, the past is seen as a burden and therefore, a common father
sons relationship cannot be realized. James ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The relationship between Edmund and Jamie seems to be an ordinary relationship between two
brothers. Jamie, an as elder brother, calls his brother a kid and seems to be really angry at his father s
negligence and stinginess for Edmund s sickness. But, as every character in this drama, Jamie as well

The Primate Family Tree By Ian Redmond
Use of Metaphor in The Primate Family Tree
Although some may think of metaphor as ornamental and inapplicable for use in subjects other than
English literature, metaphors are necessary for communication in all disciplines. The use of metaphor
is crucial in the field of education because one cannot understand completely new ideas without
making a connection to previously known information (Oshlag and Petrie). Textbooks readily employ
metaphor to convey new information to students. Pages 28 29 of The Primate Family Tree by Ian
Redmond illustrates the evolution of primates through a diagram of a tree and describes how the
theory of evolution has changed since the nineteenth century. The Primate Family Tree willfully
utilizes metaphors regarding abstract complex systems and the Great Chain of Being to explain
scientific concepts to an audience that is uneducated in complex zoological and evolutionary
processes. Two main metaphor systems categorize many metaphorical expressions: the Great Chain of
Being system and the Event Structure system (Kovecses 151). The Great Chain system is based on a
vertical scale of complexity, or being, and accounts for how one conceptually analyzes metaphors that
compare two things or nouns (Kovecses 151). The Great Chain metaphor is prevalent in English
literature to describe both comparisons and differences between nouns. One can better interpret a
complex thing, such as a human, by making comparisons between the human and another noun that

People are not forced to exercise so they could be equal with the stronger; rather the strong must equal
themselves by adding weights to make them weaker. This produces a sickly and depressing view of
society. The people themselves become lesser. After time, the dictatorship of downward living
becomes almost a way of live. George has been carrying this burden of forty seven pounds for so long
now around his neck that he says it does not bother him anymore. It has become apart of him. When
one has become desensitized from the situation, there is no hope for an uprising or change.
This is why the person who is in their mid thirties living with their parents all their life are most likely
not going to move out anytime soon on their own will. After a longer period of time, it almost
becomes comfortable and natural. To move on would actually be harder to accomplish.
This imagery shows the complete control on all aspects of life by the dictator. Any type of free thought
is immediately forgotten after sounds of automobiles crashing and shotguns going off. In reality, this
can be controlled by altering all aspects of the media, as a man takes over and impresses his will on
the given society, what he wishes to be let out to the public can be publicized; what he does not want
to be exposed, however, will not be publicized. (Compaine) The government in the story, with the
playing by the orchestra in an ill manner, does the same thing. The true beauty of music is hidden, and

The Holocaust In The Twentieth Century
The Holocaust
From extreme prejudice to mass genocide, I think everyone could agree that the holocaust was one of
the worst things to happen to the world in the twentieth century.
The holocaust also known as Shoah in Hebrew started around 1933, it was a mass genocide where
almost six million Jews were brutally killed as a deliberate attempt to get rid of the entire Jewish
population. Adolf Hitler came into command as the chancellor of Germany on January 30,1933; he
continued to rule until May 8, 1945. The Nazis believed that the Germans were racially superior and
felt that the Jews were a racial threat to the German racial community. However the Jewish

The Dilemmas Of Desire In The Franklin s Tale
Genesis Valdez ENG 4120 4 December 2017 The Dilemmas of Desire In Chaucer s Franklin Tale the
plot revolves around a married couple: the knight, Arviragus, his young wife, Dorigen, and a young
squire, Aurelius who importunes and attempts to Dorigen. The characters can be said to oscillate
between desire and their ego honor which affects what they say and do. Lacan s definition of desire
tells us that we desire for recognition from this Other. Our desire is to become what the other person
lacks. Duby s model of courtly love is a concept that focuses on chivalry, nobility and women being at
the center. In this paper, I will examine what the story reveals about the relation each character has to
his or her desire, how they act in accordance to their desire and the role magic or illusion plays in the
plot and how it affect characters relation to desire. In The Franklin s Tale, Dorigen marries Arviragus
and he promises to be true to her and never take an authoritarian role over her. Dorigen promises that
in return she will be his humble true wife and will give him his sovereignty. Arviragus gives Dorigen
power in the relationship and has dominion. Arviragus demonstrates courtly love because he serves
her in a way that allows freedom. The Franklin s Tale states, In such lordship as men have over their

problems of farmers. It took a long term view and set quotas to reduce farm production so that prices

farmers modernize. Unfortunately modernization meant that many farm labourers lost their jobs.
Another important act that was introduced during the 100 days was the National Industry Recovery

Advantages Of Measuring Body Fat
A common goal for anyone who goes for the first time in a gym is to give body fat a proper send off.
Body fat is the fat that you can see in the mirror. Once you get rid of unwanted fat, you will be able to
see more cuts . On the other hand, the higher it is, the more fat is covering your muscles. Therefore, if
you want to see more cuts , you need to shrink the layer of fat which is under your skin and covers
your muscles.
How can you determine the body fat percentage?
One of the most accurate and efficient way to determine this aspect is with a caliper. These products
are designed to clip the fat and measure it under the skin. There are multiple pinch tests, but it s
recommended to use a four or seven point caliper test. Whatever method you are going to use, the key
element is consistency. It s important to be as consistent as possible when taking the measurements. In
short words, you have to take them under the same conditions. For example, it s advisable to do them
in the morning after using the restroom, because this will eliminate any discrepancies with fluctuation
throughout the day. Additionally, you can also use other methods for measuring body fat percentage,

Essay On The Alaska Permanent Fund
Alaska is one of the many few states that obtains numerous energy resources such as oil and gas.
Ranking second in the nation in crude oil production, many oil reserves are found in the Alaska North
Slope and Cook Inlet basins. Prudhoe Bay is also the highest oil field in the United States and North
America with a production of 400,000 barrels per day. With that, Alaska s economy is based upon four
factors, petroleum revenue, non petroleum revenue, federal revenue and investment revenue. Being so
reliant on oil, in 2015 after a decrease in oil, the state began going into a budget crisis. For every $5
drop in oil prices the state loses $120 million. From 2015 to the present, barrels used to run from $100

Every fall, when the PFD checks are received, Alaska s stores experience an economic increase
compared to the other states during tax refund season. Since the Permanent Fund is projected to
continue to increase more money from its earnings, the state could still spend a portion of earnings
and keep the reserve fund. Another option is the state could put a lock on the amount of Permanent
Fund dividends due to how its calculated by the average of the Fund s income over five years.
The States next solution, income tax. HB 115 would raise an estimated $700 million a year, while
separate legislation to increase oil taxes and restructure the Permanent Fund would generate $2 billion
more. Since the Trans Alaska Pipeline brought billions of dollars in oil revenue in 1980, Alaska has
not had any state taxes. Although statewide income tax would be very unpopular amongst Alaskan
residents, it would also be the most effective way to generate revenue. An income tax proposal
introduced by the Alaska State House would generate $660 million per year that could be used
towards the budget deficit. Revenue from an income tax alone would not be enough to fix the state s
budget deficit, but would take off a significant amount. Introducing income tax would make a
significant contribution toward ending Alaska s budget deficit in a shorter time, while in the future, it

A Long Period Of Learning And Teaching Guitar Essay
Many people who pick up the guitar as a hobby, quickly become discouraged. If you are one of these
people, please don t feel bad at all. I personally took a few months before I began to even get the
majority of the simplest concepts. After a long period of learning and teaching guitar, I ve boiled down
several techniques to easily and quickly pick it up. Let s get started! First, make a log of everything
you do in practice. This one sounds kind of goofy, but, trust me, it s monumental in your progress.
Steve Vai noted in several interviews, that everything he practiced in guitar, he wrote down. Not only
did he write down what he practiced, but how he practiced it, when he practiced it, and why he
practiced it. Do this, and see what kinds of patterns you are developing. Second, if you ve got a weak
area in your practice, write it down, then practice it! Write down in your log, I m weak in
scales/chords/finger speed/etc, and will practice it for 30 45 minutes. Do this. I did it, and it helped me
more than doing anything else. Now, is just writing down what you re weak in and what you need to
do going to change it? No, not at all. You have to make the COMMITMENT to practice it, if you want
to get better at it. This sounds like common sense, but the majority of people do not make the
commitment to practice something they re not good at for an extended period of time, and opt instead
to use several excuses, such as: I m just not good at it. It s boring. I d

My Fear is a simple poem in which the author, Lawrence Raab, portrays fear as a person who is

inevitable and is something we all deal with.
Raab begins with the first stanza introducing the antagonist that is fear himself, who follows and
records the fears that trouble our mind. Through personification we are able to visualize the possibility
of a lighter side to fear s character. Fear is typically an emotion we don t like, but Raab takes a line to

And now unemployment is growing too fast. The problem is that Italians tend to enter the work force
at an older age. They take longer to find jobs and tend not to leave those jobs once they have them. As
a result of it, many Italians turn to more flexible but illegal work. Speaking about criminality, it is
necessary to say about Italian mafia. Based on the report of 2009 year, commissioned by Italy s
parliamentary anti mafia commission, it is possible to say that now it is silently prospering, moving on
from spectacular crimes and massacres to business and politics, with a prudent dose of intimidation
and violence in a bid to take over the fundamental role of the state. The highest concentration of
people living under the shadow of the mafia, 95.9%, was in the province of Agrigento in Sicily,

We Grow Accustomed to the Dark...
We grow accustomed to the dark... Darkness is a recurring image in literature that evokes a universal
unknown, yet is often entrenched in many meanings. A master poet, Emily Dickinson employs
darkness as a metaphor many times throughout her poetry. In We grow accustomed to the dark (#428)
she talks of the newness that awaits when we fit our Vision to the Dark. As enigmatic and shrouded in
mystery as the dark she explores, Dickinson s poetry seems our only door to understanding the
recluse. As she wrote to her friend T.W. Higginson on April 15, 1862, the Mind is so near itself it
cannot see, distinctly (Letters 253). In this musing, she acquiesces to a notion that man remains locked
in an internal struggle with himself. This inner ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

These lines set up darkness as an internal conflict to come. The conflict intensifies in lines 10 and 11
as we are bombarded by an explosion of 8 syllables in each line. These lines present the conflict
within one s own mind at its most desperate. After this climax, the syllables in the last nine lines
resolve the conflict presented. In these lines, Dickinson presents us with an archetypal figure that is
faced with a conflict: the bravest hero. These lines present the resolution in lines that alternate
between 6 and 7 syllables. Just as the syllables decrease, the falling action presents us with a final
insight. This insight discusses how darkness is an insurmountable entity that, like the hero, we must
face to continue straight through Life (line 20). The next seemingly arbitrary decision is Dickinson s
capitalization. The capitalization at the beginning of the sentence must be capitalized; therefore, we ll
focus on the capitalizations that lie within each sentence. In this poem, each of these words is a noun.
Past this simple reading, what may we deduce from these capitalizations? Each stanza presents a
different set of capitalized objects

conditions such as anxiety disorders, depression, schizophrenia, and others. According to the World

Positive mental health also copes with the stresses of life. They are capable of handling hard situations
and are able to balance life because they are contented of the things that they have. Mental health

your mental health is suffering but sometimes mental health problems often manifest physical
symptoms. If you don t pay attention to your mental and emotional needs, your quality of life suffers;
your work suffers; your relationships suffer; your physical health suffers. The absence of diagnosable

acknowledge to make ourselves free from the things that keeps us near to any indicators of mental
health problems. It is important to remind ourselves that mental illness and mental health are not
stationary it means they can change over time depending on the factors. Some of the factors that affect
mental health are: stress in the workplace; lifestyle and health; exposure to trauma; and genetics. An

A member of the Zingiberacae family, ginger is a flowering plant that is said to have originated in India, but was harvested to extinction. It is now cultivated predominately in India, China, and Jamaica. Although this is a flowering herb, the root or rhizome of the plant is regularly utilized for cooking or for medicinal purposes. In addition, 6 gingerol is a phenol that is rapidly metabolized in comparison to the rates of other isolated components of the ginger rhizome. The metabolism rate of the compound has been documented at about 30 minutes (Benzie Watchel galor, 2011, Ch.7 p.6). The concentration of the phenol is also found to be higher within the tissue when compared to plasma. The combination of a high metabolism rate and tissue concentration levels makes 6 gingerol the most bioactive component within the ginger rhizome. The highest concentration of 6 gingerol can be found in the gastrointestinal tract (Benzie Watchel galor, 2011, p. 6). This is important when considering treatment of GI conditions using ginger. Ulcerative colitis is an idiopathic, chronic inflammatory condition that is characterized by the inflammation of the colon and rectum. This is a disorder that affects the innermost layer of the colon, known as the mucosal layer. Similar to other inflammatory bowel diseases, ulcerative colitis results from abnormal and increased activation of the intestinal immune system. To Pimp a Butterfly refers to the downfall (whether that be intellectually or physically) of butterflies. That downfall occurs when butterflies become seduced by fame and fortune often by their own desires or, in some cases, by their exploitation. A pimped butterfly perpetuates the idea that the only lifestyle to live is one based on status and wealth. The opening track of the album is entitled Wesley s Theory. He recorded these ideas in his Poetics in which he comments on the plot, purpose, and effect that a true tragedy must have. The structure of these tragedies has been an example for many writers including Shakespeare himself. Many of Shakespeare s plays follow Aristotelian ideas of tragedy, for instance Macbeth does a decent job in shadowing Aristotle s model. Aristotle describes one of the most important elements of a tragedy to be a tragic hero. The tragic hero however must present certain qualities such as nobility and virtue. In the end, Macbeth is killed by Macduff; because of his arrogance he believed he was invincible even after being told his fate. Macbeth reaches his end through the same way he lived his life, through murder and deception. Many argue over the fairness of Macbeth s life, but the goal of a tragedy in Aristotle s view point is to strike fear and pity in the audience through harsh punishment upon the hero in extreme ways. Finally, Aristotle claims that in order for a tragedy to be effective, the fear and pity must be released from the audience through catharsis. First the tragic hero must gain some knowledge from his tragic life. Macbeth shows this self realization in his yellow leaf soliloquy when he expresses remorse for his actions. Also, in the end he knows he must fight until the end whether his fate is death. At this point the audience is cleansed of the emotions of the plot and the tragedy is finished. The fossil fuels are used and converted into coal, oils, and gasses. The products of fossil fuels are mostly Carbon, which is harmful to the environment, leading to global warming and climate change, and O zone destruction. These conditions cause global temperature increase, ocean acidification, rising sea levels, health problems due to pollution, and the destruction of ecosystems (climate.nasa.gov). Considering these issues, alternative energy sources are something that can be used to help combat harmful fossil fuels and lessen humanity s Carbon footprint (the amount of carbon dioxide and other carbon compounds emitted due to the consumption of fossil fuels by a person, group, etc.). There are multiple alternative and renewable energy sources available on the market today. Some of these include: solar panels, geothermal systems, and wind turbines; However, another alternative energy source could be harvesting lightning. Unlike the previous alternative energy sources, lightning can produce large amounts of power in a single strike. A single lightning bolt carries enough energy comparable to the energy stored in 145 liters of petrol (Malavika1, Vishal, p. 23). The Contra was set up in such a way that there would be two lines facing each other one line would be men and the other line would be woman. In the beginning I also struggled with the enthusiasm that was needed in the dance due to a lack of confidence but this enthusiasm increased as my confidence with the dance increased. I enjoyed learning choreography and dancing in time to the music but I did not enjoy how some people were singled out and forced to dance in front of the entire class. Line dancing was very beneficial not only physically but it also teaches a lot of life lessons that cannot be learned anywhere else such as discipline and to respect and appreciate women. I would participate in further line dancing activities because it is a good opportunity to get to know new people and become involved in new thing and learn new skills. The Primate Family Tree By Ian Redmond Use of Metaphor in The Primate Family Tree Although some may think of metaphor as ornamental and inapplicable for use in subjects other than English literature, metaphors are necessary for communication in all disciplines. Textbooks readily employ metaphor to convey new information to students. The Primate Family Tree willfully utilizes metaphors regarding abstract complex systems and the Great Chain of Being to explain scientific concepts to an audience that is uneducated in complex zoological and evolutionary processes. The Great Chain system is based on a vertical scale of complexity, or being, and accounts for how one conceptually analyzes metaphors that compare two things or nouns (Kovecses 151). The Dilemmas Of Desire In The Franklin s Tale Genesis Valdez ENG 4120 4 December 2017 The Dilemmas of Desire In Chaucer s Franklin Tale the plot revolves around a married couple: the knight, Arviragus, his young wife, Dorigen, and a young squire, Aurelius who importunes and attempts to Dorigen. The characters can be said to oscillate between desire and their ego honor which affects what they say and do. Lacan s definition of desire tells us that we desire for recognition from this Other. Our desire is to become what the other person lacks. Duby s model of courtly love is a concept that focuses on chivalry, nobility and women being at the center. In this paper, I will examine what the story reveals about the relation each character has to his or her desire, how they act in accordance to their desire and the role magic or illusion plays in the plot and how it affect characters relation to desire. In The Franklin s Tale, Dorigen marries Arviragus and he promises to be true to her and never take an authoritarian role over her. Dorigen promises that in return she will be his humble true wife and will give him his sovereignty. Arviragus gives Dorigen power in the relationship and has dominion. Arviragus demonstrates courtly love because he serves her in a way that allows freedom. The Franklin s Tale states, In such lordship as men have over their wives; and in order that they might lead their lives together the more blissfully, of his free will he swore to her as a knight that never in all his life, by day or ... I personally took a few months before I began to even get the majority of the simplest concepts. After a long period of learning and teaching guitar, I ve boiled down several techniques to easily and quickly pick it up. Let s get started! First, make a log of everything you do in practice. This one sounds kind of goofy, but, trust me, it s monumental in your progress. Steve Vai noted in several interviews, that everything he practiced in guitar, he wrote down. Not only did he write down what he practiced, but how he practiced it, when he practiced it, and why he practiced it. Do this, and see what kinds of patterns you are developing. Second, if you ve got a weak area in your practice, write it down, then practice it! Write down in your log, I m weak in scales/chords/finger speed/etc, and will practice it for 30 45 minutes. Do this. I did it, and it helped me more than doing anything else. Now, is just writing down what you re weak in and what you need to do going to change it? No, not at all. You have to make the COMMITMENT to practice it, if you want to get better at it. This sounds like common sense, but the majority of people do not make the commitment to practice something they re not good at for an extended period of time, and opt instead to use several excuses, such as: I m just not good at it. A master poet, Emily Dickinson employs darkness as a metaphor many times throughout her poetry. In We grow accustomed to the dark (#428) she talks of the newness that awaits when we fit our Vision to the Dark. As enigmatic and shrouded in mystery as the dark she explores, Dickinson s poetry seems our only door to understanding the recluse. As she wrote to her friend T.W. The first nine lines alternate between 8 and 6 syllables. These lines are concerned, as any narrative is, with exposition. These lines set up darkness as an internal conflict to come. The conflict intensifies in lines 10 and 11 as we are bombarded by an explosion of 8 syllables in each line. These lines present the conflict within one s own mind at its most desperate. After this climax, the syllables in the last nine lines resolve the conflict presented. In these lines, Dickinson presents us with an archetypal figure that is faced with a conflict: the bravest hero. These lines present the resolution in lines that alternate between 6 and 7 syllables. Just as the syllables decrease, the falling action presents us with a final insight. This insight discusses how darkness is an insurmountable entity that, like the hero, we must face to continue straight through Life (line 20). The next seemingly arbitrary decision is Dickinson s capitalization. The capitalization at the beginning of the sentence must be capitalized; therefore, we ll focus on the capitalizations that lie within each sentence. In this poem, each of these words is a noun.
