Novel realizations of concurrent computations utilizing three-dimensional lattice networks and their corresponding carbon-based field emission controlled switching is introduced in this article. The formalistic ternary nano-based implementation utilizes recent findings in field emission and nano applications which include carbon-based nanotubes and nanotips for three-valued lattice computing via field-emission methods. The presented work implements multi-valued Galois functions by utilizing concurrent nano-based lattice systems, which use two-to-one controlled switching via carbon-based field emission devices by using nano-apex carbon fibers and carbon nanotubes that were presented in the first part of the article. The introduced computational extension utilizing many-to-one carbon field-emission devices will be further utilized in implementing congestion-free architectures within the third part of the article. The emerging nano-based technologies form important directions in low-power compact-size regular lattice realizations, in which carbon-based devices switch less-costly and more-reliably using much less power than silicon-based devices. Applications include low-power design of VLSI circuits for signal processing and control of autonomous robots.

In recent years, they have become an increasingly important part of 3D virtual environments for the interactive analysis and communication of complex hierarchical information, for example in routing, logistics optimization, and disaster management. A variety of rendering techniques have been proposed that deal with integrating transportation networks within these environments, but have so far neglected the many challenges of an interactive design process to adapt their spatial and thematic granularity (i.e., level-of-detail and level-of-abstraction) according to a user's context. This paper presents an efficient real-time rendering technique for the view-dependent rendering of geometrically complex transportation networks within 3D virtual environments. Our technique is based on distance fields using deferred texturing that shifts the design process to the shading stage for real-time stylization. We demonstrate and discuss our approach by means of street networks using cartographic design principles for context-aware stylization, including view-dependent scaling for clutter reduction, contour-lining to provide figure-ground, handling of street crossings via shading-based blending, and task-dependent colorization. Finally, we present potential usage scenarios and applications together with a performance evaluation of our implementation.

High-quality rendering of 3D virtual environments typically depends on high-quality 3D models with significant geometric complexity and texture data. One major bottleneck for real-time image-synthesis represents the number of state changes, which a specific rendering API has to perform. To improve performance, batching can be used to group and sort geometric primitives into batches to reduce the number of required state changes, whereas the size of the batches determines the number of required draw-calls, and therefore, is critical for rendering performance. For example, in the case of texture atlases, which provide an approach for efficient texture management, the batch size is limited by the efficiency of the texture-packing algorithm and the texture resolution itself. This paper presents a pre-processing approach and rendering technique that overcomes these limitations by further grouping textures or texture atlases and thus enables the creation of larger geometry batches. It is based on texture arrays in combination with an additional indexing schema that is evaluated at run-time using shader programs. This type of texture management is especially suitable for real-time rendering of large-scale texture-rich 3D virtual environments, such as virtual city and landscape models.
Acceleration of the Longwave Rapid Radiative Transfer Module using GPGPU
This poster presents Weather Research and Forecast (WRF)
model is a next-generation mesoscale numerical weather
prediction system designed to serve both operational forecasting
and atmospheric research communities. WRF offers multiple
physics options, one of which is the Long-Wave Rapid Radiative
Transfer Model (RRTM). Even with the advent of large-scale
parallelism in weather models, much of the performance increase
has came from increasing processor speed rather than increased
parallelism. We present an alternative method of scaling model
performance by exploiting emerging architectures like GPGPU
using the fine-grain parallelism. We claim to get much more than
23.71x, performance gain by using asynchronous data transfer,
use of texture memory and the techniques like loop unrolling.
2.5D Clip-Surfaces for Technical Visualization
The concept of clipping planes is well known in computer graphics and can be used to create cut-away views. But clipping against just analytical defined planes is not always suitable for communicating every aspect of such visualization. For example, in hand-drawn technical illustrations, artists tend to communicate the difference between a cut and a model feature by using non-regular, sketchy cut lines instead of straight ones. To enable this functionality in computer graphics, this paper presents a technique for applying 2.5D clip-surfaces in real-time. Therefore, the clip plane equation is extended with an additional offset map, which can be represented by a texture map that contains height values. Clipping is then performed by varying the clip plane equation with respect to such an offset map. Further, a capping technique is proposed that enables the rendering of caps onto the clipped area to convey the impression of solid material. It avoids a re-meshing of a solid polygonal mesh after clipping is performed. Our approach is pixel precise, applicable in real-time, and takes fully advantage of graphics accelerators.
Rendering of Complex 3D Treemaps (GRAPP 2013)

Multi-core GPU – Fast parallel SAR image generation

Graph Regularised Hashing
Hashing has witnessed an increase in popularity over the
past few years due to the promise of compact encoding and fast query
time. In order to be effective hashing methods must maximally preserve
the similarity between the data points in the underlying binary representation.
The current best performing hashing techniques have utilised
supervision. In this paper we propose a two-step iterative scheme, Graph
Regularised Hashing (GRH), for incrementally adjusting the positioning
of the hashing hypersurfaces to better conform to the supervisory signal:
in the first step the binary bits are regularised using a data similarity
graph so that similar data points receive similar bits. In the second
step the regularised hashcodes form targets for a set of binary classifiers
which shift the position of each hypersurface so as to separate opposite
bits with maximum margin. GRH exhibits superior retrieval accuracy to
competing hashing methods.
Network Optimization Brief
This document summarizes a majorization-minimization approach to designing power transmission networks. It models power flow as current flow in a resistive network. It formulates the problem of designing the network topology and line sizes to minimize power loss as a convex optimization problem. To impose sparsity, it introduces a non-convex penalty term and solves the problem using a majorization-minimization algorithm that solves a sequence of convex subproblems. The approach can also design robust networks that are resilient to failures by optimizing for the worst-case power loss after failures.

In this research, we propose a MapReduce al- gorithm for creating contiguity-based spatial weights. This algorithm provides the ability to create spatial weights from very large spatial datasets efficiently by using computing re- sources that are organized in the Hadoop framework. It works in the paradigm of MapReduce: mappers are dis- tributed in computing clusters to find contiguous neighbors in parallel, then reducers collect the results and generate the weights matrix. To test the performance of this al- gorithm, we design experiment to create contiguity-based weights matrix from artificial spatial data with up to 190 million polygons using Amazon’s Hadoop framework called Elastic MapReduce. The experiment demonstrates the scal- ability of this parallel algorithm which utilizes large com- puting clusters to solve the problem of creating contiguity weights on Big data.
ARPS Architecture
This document describes a VLSI architecture for block matching motion estimation using the Adaptive Rood Pattern Search (ARPS) algorithm. It aims to enhance the performance of video encoders. The proposed architecture uses ARP and URP modules to perform an initial search and refined search. It consists of address generation, comparison, and sum of absolute difference blocks. Simulation results show the architecture achieves similar PSNR to full search with significantly fewer search points, indicating better computational efficiency.
Automatic road environment classification 20121002
This document presents a method for classifying road environments using images from a vehicle-mounted camera. It extracts color and texture features from subregions of road images and classifies them using k-NN and artificial neural networks (ANN). For a four-class problem distinguishing off-road, urban, major road, and motorway classes, the accuracy is around 80%. For a two-class problem distinguishing off-road and on-road, the accuracy increases to around 90% using ANN classification. The method achieves a near real-time classification rate of 1Hz by classifying one video frame per second.
Mapping Parallel Programs into Hierarchical Distributed Computer Systems
This document presents research on mapping parallel programs to hierarchical distributed computer systems. It introduces a heuristic algorithm called TMMGP that partitions task graphs and maps them to optimize execution time. Experiments show TMMGP reduces execution time of MPI benchmarks on two computer clusters by up to 40% on average compared to standard MPI mapping tools. (RCMH) a new cross-modal hashing model that projects
annotation and visual feature descriptors into a common
Hamming space. RCMH optimises the hashcode similarity
of related data-points in the annotation modality using an
iterative three-step hashing algorithm: in the first step each
training image is assigned a K-bit hashcode based on hyperplanes learnt at the previous iteration; in the second step the binary bits are smoothed by a formulation of graph regularisation so that similar data-points have similar bits; in the third step a set of binary classifiers are trained to predict the regularised bits with maximum margin. Visual descriptors are projected into the annotation Hamming space by a set of binary classifiers learnt using the bits of the corresponding annotations as labels. RCMH is shown to consistently improve retrieval effectiveness over state-of-the-art baselines.

This talk focuses on high-dimensional problems for signals and
discrete entities: when dealing with many, correlated, signals or
entities, it is useful to extract representations that capture these
correlations.
Matrix factorization models provide simple but powerful representations. They are used for recommender systems across discrete entities such as users and products, or to learn good dictionaries to represent images. However they entail large computing costs on very high-dimensional data, databases with many products or high-resolution images. I will present an
algorithm to factorize huge matrices based on stochastic subsampling that gives up to 10-fold speed-ups [1].
With discrete entities, the explosion of dimensionality may be due to variations in how a smaller number of categories are represented. Such a problem of "dirty categories" is typical of uncurated data sources. I will discuss how encoding this data based on similarities recovers a useful category structure with no preprocessing. I will show how it interpolates between one-hot encoding and techniques used in character-level natural language processing.

VLSI IMPLEMENTATION OF AREA EFFICIENT 2-PARALLEL FIR DIGITAL FILTER
This paper aims to implement an area efficient 2-parallel FIR digital filter. Xilinx 14.2 is used for synthesis and simulation. Parallel filters are designed by using VHDL. Comparison among primary 2–parallel FIR digital filter and area efficient 2-parallel FIR digital filter has been done. Since adders are less weight in
term of silicon area, compare to multipliers. Therefore multipliers are replaced with adders for reducing area and speed of the filter. 2-parallel FIR filter is used in digital signal processing (DSP) application.
Context-Aware Recommender System Based on Boolean Matrix Factorisation
In this work we propose and study an approach for collaborative filtering, which is based on Boolean matrix factorisation and exploits additional (context) information about users and items. To avoid similarity loss in case of Boolean representation we use an adjusted type of projection of a target user to the obtained factor space.
We have compared the proposed method with SVD-based approach on the MovieLens dataset. The experiments demonstrate that the proposed method has better MAE and Precision and comparable Recall and F-measure. We also report an increase of quality in the context information presence.

This document discusses fast distance matrix computation using contraction hierarchies. It begins with an overview and introduction to distance matrices and their uses in logistics problems. It then discusses standard graph algorithms like Dijkstra's algorithm and bidirectional Dijkstra. Challenges with naive algorithms are presented, including large search spaces. Contraction hierarchies are then introduced as a technique to preprocess the graph to reduce the search space for queries. With contraction hierarchies, the number of explored nodes is reduced dramatically, leading to much faster computation of distance matrices. Results show improvements from hours to seconds for larger problem sizes.
Graph Regularised Hashing
Hashing has witnessed an increase in popularity over the
past few years due to the promise of compact encoding and fast query
time. In order to be effective hashing methods must maximally preserve
the similarity between the data points in the underlying binary representation.
The current best performing hashing techniques have utilised
supervision. In this paper we propose a two-step iterative scheme, Graph
Regularised Hashing (GRH), for incrementally adjusting the positioning
of the hashing hypersurfaces to better conform to the supervisory signal:
in the first step the binary bits are regularised using a data similarity
graph so that similar data points receive similar bits. In the second
step the regularised hashcodes form targets for a set of binary classifiers
which shift the position of each hypersurface so as to separate opposite
bits with maximum margin. GRH exhibits superior retrieval accuracy to
competing hashing methods.
Network Optimization Brief
This document summarizes a majorization-minimization approach to designing power transmission networks. It models power flow as current flow in a resistive network. It formulates the problem of designing the network topology and line sizes to minimize power loss as a convex optimization problem. To impose sparsity, it introduces a non-convex penalty term and solves the problem using a majorization-minimization algorithm that solves a sequence of convex subproblems. The approach can also design robust networks that are resilient to failures by optimizing for the worst-case power loss after failures.

In this research, we propose a MapReduce al- gorithm for creating contiguity-based spatial weights. This algorithm provides the ability to create spatial weights from very large spatial datasets efficiently by using computing re- sources that are organized in the Hadoop framework. It works in the paradigm of MapReduce: mappers are dis- tributed in computing clusters to find contiguous neighbors in parallel, then reducers collect the results and generate the weights matrix. To test the performance of this al- gorithm, we design experiment to create contiguity-based weights matrix from artificial spatial data with up to 190 million polygons using Amazon’s Hadoop framework called Elastic MapReduce. The experiment demonstrates the scal- ability of this parallel algorithm which utilizes large com- puting clusters to solve the problem of creating contiguity weights on Big data.
ARPS Architecture
This document describes a VLSI architecture for block matching motion estimation using the Adaptive Rood Pattern Search (ARPS) algorithm. It aims to enhance the performance of video encoders. The proposed architecture uses ARP and URP modules to perform an initial search and refined search. It consists of address generation, comparison, and sum of absolute difference blocks. Simulation results show the architecture achieves similar PSNR to full search with significantly fewer search points, indicating better computational efficiency.
Automatic road environment classification 20121002
This document presents a method for classifying road environments using images from a vehicle-mounted camera. It extracts color and texture features from subregions of road images and classifies them using k-NN and artificial neural networks (ANN). For a four-class problem distinguishing off-road, urban, major road, and motorway classes, the accuracy is around 80%. For a two-class problem distinguishing off-road and on-road, the accuracy increases to around 90% using ANN classification. The method achieves a near real-time classification rate of 1Hz by classifying one video frame per second.
Mapping Parallel Programs into Hierarchical Distributed Computer Systems
This document presents research on mapping parallel programs to hierarchical distributed computer systems. It introduces a heuristic algorithm called TMMGP that partitions task graphs and maps them to optimize execution time. Experiments show TMMGP reduces execution time of MPI benchmarks on two computer clusters by up to 40% on average compared to standard MPI mapping tools. The research aims to develop models and algorithms that better account for the hierarchical organization of modern distributed systems and structure of parallel programs. Future work includes mapping to arbitrary subsystems and integrating the algorithm with resource management systems.

training image is assigned a K-bit hashcode based on hyperplanes learnt at the previous iteration; in the second step the binary bits are smoothed by a formulation of graph regularisation so that similar data-points have similar bits; in the third step a set of binary classifiers are trained to predict the regularised bits with maximum margin. Visual descriptors are projected into the annotation Hamming space by a set of binary classifiers learnt using the bits of the corresponding annotations as labels. RCMH is shown to consistently improve retrieval effectiveness over state-of-the-art baselines.

This talk focuses on high-dimensional problems for signals and
discrete entities: when dealing with many, correlated, signals or
entities, it is useful to extract representations that capture these
correlations.
Matrix factorization models provide simple but powerful representations. They are used for recommender systems across discrete entities such as users and products, or to learn good dictionaries to represent images. However they entail large computing costs on very high-dimensional data, databases with many products or high-resolution images. I will present an
algorithm to factorize huge matrices based on stochastic subsampling that gives up to 10-fold speed-ups [1].
With discrete entities, the explosion of dimensionality may be due to variations in how a smaller number of categories are represented. Such a problem of "dirty categories" is typical of uncurated data sources. I will discuss how encoding this data based on similarities recovers a useful category structure with no preprocessing. I will show how it interpolates between one-hot encoding and techniques used in character-level natural language processing.

This paper aims to implement an area efficient 2-parallel FIR digital filter. Xilinx 14.2 is used for synthesis and simulation. Parallel filters are designed by using VHDL. Comparison among primary 2–parallel FIR digital filter and area efficient 2-parallel FIR digital filter has been done. Since adders are less weight in
term of silicon area, compare to multipliers. Therefore multipliers are replaced with adders for reducing area and speed of the filter. 2-parallel FIR filter is used in digital signal processing (DSP) application.
Context-Aware Recommender System Based on Boolean Matrix Factorisation
In this work we propose and study an approach for collaborative filtering, which is based on Boolean matrix factorisation and exploits additional (context) information about users and items. To avoid similarity loss in case of Boolean representation we use an adjusted type of projection of a target user to the obtained factor space.
We have compared the proposed method with SVD-based approach on the MovieLens dataset. The experiments demonstrate that the proposed method has better MAE and Precision and comparable Recall and F-measure. We also report an increase of quality in the context information presence.
