Abstract
Squirrels are members of the family Sciuridae.
Squirrels belong to the rodents.
They are small and funny animals live in the wild.
Homeland
Squirrels are found in Asia, Europe and America. It
also is found in Africa, but with different Species.
Squirrels live in trees and they build their nests from
branches of trees then they cover them by leaves.
Characteristics
Squirrels typically have slender bodies with bushy
tails and large eyes. Their fur is soft and silky.
The color of squirrels is highly variable between
species.
The hind limbs are longer than the fore limbs, and
they have four or five toes on each paw.
Squirrel is characterized by the ability to plan and
collect food busily.
Feeding
Squirrels cannot digest cellulose, so they must rely
on foods rich in protein, carbohydrates, and fats.
Squirrels feed on nuts, oak, fruit, and eat the eggs
and chicks of birds nests.
Squirrels are victim for birds of prey, snakes and foxes.
Life cycle
Squirrels breed once or twice a year and give birth
to a varying number of young after three to six
weeks, depending on species.
The mother looks after its squirrels until they grow
and be 10 weeks old.
The squirrels can live form 10 to 20 years.
