Survey- Pre-Reading Activity Read the  title  of a chapter Skim the  introduction Read  headings  in the chapter Look at  visuals Notice how many  pages Read  vocabulary  words Check for  summary  and read it Notice  unique  things about chapter

Read headings and following sentence  Survey-
Look at pictures and captions Survey-
Notice how many pages are in the chapter Survey-
Notice vocabulary words and read them Survey-
Check for a summary and read it Survey-
Notice any other unique things about the chapter charts graphs related readings special sections Survey-
Turn each subheading into a question Question Who? What? When? Where? How? Why?
An example: Read How did the war begin? What was the relationship between Washington and the Continental Army?   What was the Battle of Bunker Hill? Where was it?
Read Read the chapter/section/paragraph Answer your heading questions Highlight answer when found (don’t overdo it)
Recite Repeat your question after reading section Answer in your own words Understand  your answer
Review Reread your questions Answer without referring to section Review highlighted sections if stuck
