STEPS OF THE WRITING PROCESS PREWRITING DRAFTING REVISING EDITING PUBISHING
PREWRITING In this first step of the writing process you will: Select key ideas to get started Brainstorm and organize ideas Plan and think about what you are going write *Graphic organizers will help you stay organized
DRAFTING When drafting you will: Use ideas from the previous step and write a rough draft Write your ideas in order Develop a main idea, supporting details and a body * Do not focus on spelling, grammar, and punctuation
REVISING When revising you will: Rearrange you writing to clarify meaning Add descriptive words and details Take out words and sentences that do not belong and make changes to improve your writing *Be sure to have a classmate or teacher provide feedback
EDITING When editing you will: Check for correct spelling, punctuation, grammar and word usage  Proofread and correct mistakes Use proofreading marks to keep track of changes *Make sure you have someone proofread your work
PUBLISHING When publishing you will: Read what you wrote aloud Prepare a final draft and write your final copy Share your writing with others *What are other ways you can share your work?
