This document discusses environmental engagement and awareness in youth. It outlines common issues like climate change denial and technological reliance. The author then examines three types of environmental dissent among youth: dutiful dissent through awareness activities, disruptive dissent through activism and protests, and dangerous dissent through alternative ways of thinking. Greta Thunberg is presented as the ultimate example of youth dissent, inspiring millions to protest for climate action. Statistics on pollution and fossil fuel usage are also provided. The document argues that today's youth are uniquely positioned to spread environmental awareness due to their exposure to rapid ecosystem degradation on a global scale.
This presentation argues for adoption of inter-faith monotheistic commons. A textual description is partly reflected in the document on agenda for ecologically safe cities.
During our November 18 webinar, we discussed the most effective campaigns to stop corporations from polluting the planet with single-use plastic. From global cleanups and brand audits hosted by Break Free From Plastic to campaigns scoring companies for their use of toxic PVC plastic and phthalates, there are projects happening near you, where you can add your voice. The webinar was moderated by Emily DiFrisco, Director of Communications at Plastic Pollution Coalition, and panelists included: Shilpi Chhotray, Global Communications Lead, Break Free From Plastic; Mike Schade, Mind the Store Campaign, Director Safer Chemicals, Healthy Families and Judith Enck, President, Beyond Plastics.

The Global Greening Project and future organization was founded many years ago as the main project of the Greening Deserts and Trillion Trees Initiative. The founder published many articles, innovative ideas and papers about the regreening and reforestation movement. GlobalGreening.org is and will be the main platform in the future, also for the development organization. The project is linked to Greening Deserts developments such as the global Greening Camps. It has long been a private initiative as part of the Trillion Trees Project. The Global Greening Institution wants to build an additional platform for Southern Europe and Africa, including the Drought Research Institute with its online platform DroughtResearch.com.

UNDERSTANDING WHAT GREEN WASHING IS!.pdfJulietMogola
Many companies today use green washing to lure the public into thinking they are conserving the environment but in real sense they are doing more harm. There have been such several cases from very big companies here in Kenya and also globally. This ranges from various sectors from manufacturing and goes to consumer products. Educating people on greenwashing will enable people to make better choices based on their analysis and not on what they see on marketing sites.
Characterization and the Kinetics of drying at the drying oven and with micro...Open Access Research Paper
The objective of this work is to contribute to valorization de Nephelium lappaceum by the characterization of kinetics of drying of seeds of Nephelium lappaceum. The seeds were dehydrated until a constant mass respectively in a drying oven and a microwawe oven. The temperatures and the powers of drying are respectively: 50, 60 and 70°C and 140, 280 and 420 W. The results show that the curves of drying of seeds of Nephelium lappaceum do not present a phase of constant kinetics. The coefficients of diffusion vary between 2.09.10-8 to 2.98. 10-8m-2/s in the interval of 50°C at 70°C and between 4.83×10-07 at 9.04×10-07 m-8/s for the powers going of 140 W with 420 W the relation between Arrhenius and a value of energy of activation of 16.49 kJ. mol-1 expressed the effect of the temperature on effective diffusivity.

2. Common Trending Issues in Youth
Denial in climate change
Technological reliance
Fear/Resistance
Disengagement/Disinterest
Dissent… which I will discuss further.
3. The Politics of Dissent
Young people engage in environmental awareness
through 3 different types of dissent:
-Dutiful
-Disruptive
-Dangerous
4. What is dissent?
- a sentiment or philosophy of a non-agreement or
opposition to a prevailing idea or an entity
- the expression or holding of opinions at variance
with those previously, commonly or officially held
5. Dutiful Dissent- Awareness
Joining activities/organizations that express resistance to
mass fossil fuel production, consumerism, etc
Example: Environmental Youth Alliance(EYA)
Green transport (carpooling), support sustainable
development (monitoring water usage), reducing waste
Picking up trash in the ocean
6. Disruptive Dissent- Activism
Challenging power relationships, politics
Joining petition campaigns, boycotts
Example: Protest of oil drilling in the Yasuni National Park in
Ecuador by planting trees on oil site in 2018
Disrupting international climate meetings
This type of dissent is often necessary for social change (Should not
be perceived in a negative light)
7. Dangerous Dissent- Alternatives
New ways of organizing society- more individualistic perspective
Transform social norms
Resistance of powerful ideologies- withdrawal from organized systems
Recognize that the lifestyle of industrialized countries can only be achieved at
expense of environmental resources
Example: Creating alternative ways of thinking that threaten vested societal
interests Ex: Challenging powerful corporations and factories
8. Ultimate example of dissent in youth:
Greta Thunberg
Started protesting at 15 and is now 17
9.3 million Instagram followers
Started protesting outside the Swedish Parliament – “Fridays for Future”
Nominated for the Noble Peace Prize
Spoke at United Nations COP24 in 2018- “How Dare You” speech
9. Statistics
Approximately 8 million pieces of (very small to very large) plastic pollution
find their way into the ocean daily
The United States only recycles approximately 9% of its plastic trash
Air pollution kills an estimate of 7 million people world wide annually
93% of children worldwide live in areas where air pollution exceeds World
Health Organization’s guidelines
10. Rise of Fossil Fuel Usage:
Since 1970,
CO2 emissions have
increased by about 90%,
with emissions from
fossil fuel combustion
and industrial processes
contributing about 78%
of the total greenhouse
gas emissions increase
from 1970 to 2011.
11. Why the youth is so important:
Millennials are the first generation that have witnessed rapid degradation
of crucial ecosystems at a global scale, however have not heavily engaged
in awareness & dissent
These globally deteriorating events that the youth have experienced can
alter how they:
Value the environment, understand what needs to be done, and realize
the severity- more than any other generation
Due to this mass exposure, we hope that the youth of today, like Greta of
Generation Z can use this information to spread awareness.
