The presentation will introduce the audience to microservice architecture and how it is different from a monolithic one. It will focus on the different components that are necessary for a microservice architecture such as discovery service, configuration service, api gateway and others. Service discovery and registration are key components of most distributed systems and service oriented architectures. In this session we will talk about what, why and how of service registration and discovery in distributed systems in general and OpenStack in particular. We will talk about some of the technologies that address this challenge like Zookeeper, Etcd, Consul, Mesos-DNS, Minuteman, SkyDNS, SmartStack or Eureka. We will also address how these technologies as well as existing OpenStack projects can be used to solve this problem inside OpenStack environments.

K8s also trying to cater the different requirement of these workload one such example is headless services which is basically used for stateful service set. Role of LB is most important when it comes to scaling of services and service discovery be it ingress or E-W. For stateful services exposed using clusterIP/NodePort to ingress default Round Robin loadbalancing will not work. Amazon gives us the flexibility to tap into massive amounts of resources, but how we use and manage those is a constantly evolving and ever-growing task. We have developed Titan to make cluster management, application deployments using Docker and process supervision much more robust and efficient in terms of CPU/memory utilization across all of our servers in different geographies. Titan, a combination of Docker and Apache Mesos, is an application infrastructure gives us a highly resilient and dynamic PAAS, that is native to public clouds and runs across multiple geographies. It makes it easy for us to manage applications in our complex infrastructure and gives us the ability to make changes in the IAAS layer without impacting developer productivity or sacrificing insight into our production infrastructure.

As DevOps practices have been put into wide use, it's become evident that developers and operations aren't merging to become one discipline. Nor is operations simply going away. Rather, DevOps is leading software development and operations - together with other practices such as security - to collaborate and coexist with less overhead and conflict than in the past. In his session at @DevOpsSummit at 19th Cloud Expo, Gordon Haff, Red Hat Technology Evangelist, will discuss what modern operational practices look like in a world in which applications are more loosely coupled, are developed using DevOps approaches, and are deployed on software-defined, and often containerized, infrastructures - and where operations itself is increasingly another "as a service" capability from the perspective of developers. How does the operations tool chest change? How does the required skill set differ? How are the interactions between operations and other IT and business organizations different from in the past? At the core of product innovation at Netflix is consumer science; Netflix constantly tests and iterates on new ideas for every aspect of the streaming service. This experiment-oriented culture uses data from actual customer usage of the product to quickly understand which ideas are great. At the 2012 O'Reilly Open Source Convention (OSCON), Rochelle King and Matt Marenghi described the consumer science process in detail. They demonstrated how it can apply to everything from a new UI concept to a new back-end algorithm. They also discussed how the company culture and the product development approach inter-relate, and shared how this customer focus drives decision-making at every level of the company. They also discussed some of the limitations of consumer science, and how to make decisions where science can’t easily shine a light.
