Marina G. Dayrit Lecture Series 2016 with the topic Spotlight on Users: an
Introduction to Client-centered Collection Assessment on February 19, 2016, 1:00
pm to 5:00 pm at the Asian Institute of Maritime Studies, Roxas Boulevard, Pasay City.
The lecture series, named in honor of our founding president Ms. Marina G. Dayrit, aims to
provide a fertile learning environment for new ideas and enlightened discussions among
library and information professionals in the country.
As academic libraries face budget cuts during these lean years, the need to make careful
decisions in acquiring library materials is crucial. To help librarians understand and meet
the needs of the users while assuring administrators that the institutions resources is put
into good use, a systematic evaluation of the library’s collection is necessary. This lecture
aims to aid librarians in their conduct of collection assessment. Specifically it intends to:
 familiarize participants with the different client-centered collection assessment
techniques;
 develop in the participants a framework of identifying useful data for collection
assessment; and
 guide participants in the preparation of collection assessment studies/reports.
Registration starts at 12:00 noon. Members will be assessed a registration fee of Php300
and Php350 for non-members. Students may avail of a discounted rate of Php200.
Renewal and application for membership are also encouraged. Membership fees are at
Php200 for individual and Php500 for institutional. Additional information on membership
will be entertained at the registration/secretariat’s desk.
