How to Move from Monitoring to Observability, On-Premises and in a Multi-Clou...Splunk
With the acceleration of customer and business demands, site reliability engineers and IT Ops analysts now require operational visibility into their entire architecture, something that traditional APM tools, dev logging tools, and SRE tools aren’t equipped to provide. Observability enables you to inspect and understand your IT stack on premises and in the cloud(s); It’s no longer about whether your system works (monitoring), but being able to task why it is not working? (Observability). This presentation will outline key steps to take to move from monitoring to observability.
Presentation on Data Mesh: The paradigm shift is a new type of eco-system architecture, which is a shift left towards a modern distributed architecture in which it allows domain-specific data and views “data-as-a-product,” enabling each domain to handle its own data pipelines.
On the Application of AI for Failure Management: Problems, Solutions and Algo...Jorge Cardoso
Artificial Intelligence for IT Operations (AIOps) is a class of software which targets the automation of operational tasks through machine learning technologies. ML algorithms are typically used to support tasks such as anomaly detection, root-causes analysis, failure prevention, failure prediction, and system remediation. AIOps is gaining an increasing interest from the industry due to the exponential growth of IT operations and the complexity of new technology. Modern applications are assembled from hundreds of dependent microservices distributed across many cloud platforms, leading to extremely complex software systems. Studies show that cloud environments are now too complex to be managed solely by humans. This talk discusses various AIOps problems we have addressed over the years and gives a sketch of the solutions and algorithms we have implemented. Interesting problems include hypervisor anomaly detection, root-cause analysis of software service failures using application logs, multi-modal anomaly detection, root-cause analysis using distributed traces, and verification of virtual private cloud networks.

To be able to use analytics effectively and thus leverage the data treasures in the company, you need a modern and scalable data platform that can react flexibly to events and was designed with a DataOps mindset from the very beginning.
How deeply can you understand what is happening inside your application? In modern, microservices-based applications, it’s critical to have end-to-end observability of each component and the communications between them in order to quickly identify and debug issues. In this session, we show how to have the necessary instrumentation and how to use the data you collect to have a better grasp of your production environment. On AWS, CloudWatch collects monitoring and operational data in the form of logs, metrics, and events, providing you with a unified view of AWS resources, applications, and services. With AWS X-Ray, you can understand how your application and its underlying services are performing to identify and troubleshoot the root cause of performance issues and errors. X-Ray provides an end-to-end view of requests as they travel through your application, and shows a map of your application’s underlying components. AWS App Mesh standardizes how your microservices communicate, giving you end-to-end visibility and helping to ensure high-availability for your applications.
Survive the fog of system development! Developers' lives have gotten more complex in the last decade. There is too much to learn and understand now, and you need a co-pilot. Let AIOps be that co-pilot.
In this webinar, we'll share use cases and discuss:

A guide for assessing where to automate
Service meshes are relatively new, extremely powerful and can be complex. There’s a lot of information out there on what a service mesh is and what it can do, but it’s a lot to sort through. Sometimes, it’s helpful to have a guide. If you’ve been asking questions like “What is a service mesh?” “Why would I use one?” “What benefits can it provide?” or “How did people even come up with the idea for service mesh?” then The Complete Guide to Service Mesh is for you.
Scaling and Modernizing Data Platform with DatabricksDatabricks
Today a Data Platform is expected to process and analyze a multitude of sources spanning batch files, streaming sources, backend databases, REST APIs, and more. There is clearly a need for standardizing the platform that scales and be flexible letting data engineers and data scientists focus on the business problems rather than managing the infrastructure and backend services. Another key aspect of the platform is multi-tenancy to isolate the workloads and able to track cost usage per tenant.
In this talk, Richa Singhal and Esha Shah will cover how to build a scalable Data Platform using Databricks and deploy your data pipelines effectively while managing the costs. The following topics will be covered:
Key tenets of a Data Platform
Setup multistage environment on Databricks
Build data pipelines locally and test on Databricks cluster
CI/CD for data pipelines with Databricks
Orchestrating pipelines using Apache Airflow – Change Data Capture using Databricks Delta
Leveraging Databricks Notebooks for Analytics and Data Science teams

Rage WITH the machine, not against it: Machine learning for Event ManagementSplunk
Simplify service operations and improve reliability of events with machine learning and analytics
Your data centre creates a lot of events — from low-level disk warnings to critical network issues and even service-level failures. With so many events and false positives, how do you know which events are important and which ones to ‘throw away’? Your current rules-based tools don’t work they are inflexible, cannot handle event volumes from today’s transient infrastructures and do not provide actionable alerts that help you fix the important problems first.
Join this webinar to learn how Splunk IT Service Intelligence employs the power of machine learning to provide actionable human scale alerts with service context in an integrated solution, enabling IT teams to focus on fixing what’s broken quickly and easily. Learn how you can rapidly apply machine learning to:
- Catch anomalous behavior to detect events before they become critical incidents
- Avoid having to create manual rules and set adapt thresholds dynamically
- Automatically correlate data to generate highly qualified information, so you can take fast action
- Prioritize and speed up investigation on the most important incidents with service context

Blockchain is one of the most popular talking points in the IT industry today, with thousands of technical proofs, use-cases and experiments being planned and delivered to show the value of this technology. For all of this, when asked about production deployments of blockchain for the real enterprises of today, most of the proponents of this value will demur when it comes to talking production. Bridging this gap between science experiment and an enterprise quality platform for the modern business requires a great deal of work, much of which is done by the growing community of vendors who are collaborating to deliver not just the technical requirement and use-case solutions for blockchain, but also the practical tools to use blockchain in a meaningful way within a business. join this session to hear about the 5 key qualities that any practically usable enterprise blockchain will need to deliver and how the collaboration of enterprise vendors is making the practical use of Blockchain a reality for organisations in 2018.

Linde Healthcare launched a new digital valve for hospital gas cylinders. The valve informed clinicians the amount of time that a cylinder had left to deliver gas. Rather than using a new cylinder in case it ran out, the existing inventory could be used more efficiently. Customers were somewhat sceptical of the full value, until… This case study shows how a lean start-up approach can be used to identify incremental business value within a healthcare environment, and deliver a tracking and monitoring solution customers value.

Effective Application Security in Software Delivery lifecycle using Deployment Firewall and DBOM
The modern software delivery process (or the CI/CD process) includes many tools, distributed teams, open-source code, and cloud platforms. Constant focus on speed to release software to market, along with the traditional slow and manual security checks has caused gaps in continuous security as an important piece in the software supply chain. Today organizations feel more susceptible to external and internal cyber threats due to the vast attack surface in their applications supply chain and the lack of end-to-end governance and risk management.
The software team must secure its software delivery process to avoid vulnerability and security breaches. This needs to be achieved with existing tool chains and without extensive rework of the delivery processes. This talk will present strategies and techniques for providing visibility into the true risk of the existing vulnerabilities, preventing the introduction of security issues in the software, resolving vulnerabilities in production environments quickly, and capturing the deployment bill of materials (DBOM).
