Speech Essay Outline
Crafting an essay on the topic of "Speech Essay Outline" can be a challenging endeavor, as it
requires a combination of organizational skills, critical thinking, and a deep understanding of the
subject matter. The difficulty lies not only in expressing your thoughts coherently but also in
creating a structured outline that effectively conveys your ideas.
To start, you need to analyze the specific requirements of the essay and develop a clear thesis
statement that encapsulates the main point of your speech essay. This involves a comprehensive
understanding of the subject, the intended audience, and the purpose of your essay. Once the
thesis is established, constructing a well-organized outline becomes crucial.
The challenge intensifies as you navigate through the intricacies of arranging your ideas logically.
Each section of the outline must seamlessly flow into the next, creating a coherent and
persuasive argument. Transitioning between paragraphs and ensuring a smooth progression of
ideas demands careful consideration and a keen eye for detail.
Furthermore, the task involves researching relevant information to support your arguments. This
requires time and effort to gather credible sources, extract pertinent data, and integrate it
seamlessly into your essay. Balancing your own insights with external evidence is a delicate task
that adds another layer of complexity to the writing process.
Additionally, crafting an engaging introduction and a compelling conclusion poses its own set of
challenges. Capturing the reader's attention from the beginning and leaving a lasting impression
at the end require a mastery of language and rhetorical techniques.

of analytical skills, organization, and effective communication. It is a task that necessitates

Battle Of Manassas
The first major battle to be fought during the American Civil War took place on
July 1, 1861 near Manassas, Virginia. The 1st Battle of Manassas, commonly
known as The Battle of Bull Run by Union forces, saw an estimated 28,400 Union
soldiers attempt to quickly defeat the Confederate army whose numbers out manned
theirs. Believing the war would not last long and that the South would fall if
defeated in a major battle, Brigadier General Irvin McDowell, under the instruction
of President Lincoln, led an army who was overwhelmingly under trained in a major
battle setting to confront the forces of General Pierce Gustave Beauregard in
Northern Virginia. General Beauregard had been recruiting men for the war effort
since the spring of 1861 in an
An Enquiry Concerning Human Understanding By David
Hume Essay
Universal Perfect Doesn t Exist: Genuine Knowledge Means Shift
It has been many years, the foundation of all genuine knowledge, whether they are
found on experience (empiricism) or they could simply gain from pure reasoning
(rationalism) has been the subject of academic debate among scholars. However, we
will only focus on the limitation of pure reasoning, compare both David Hume and
Rene Descartes views of knowledge, and decide whose belief works better to attain
genuine knowledge in this paper. In the book An Enquiry Concerning Human
Understanding , David Hume specifically clarifies on how moral reasoning
(induction) works in the knowledge of cause and effect and he shares on its
limitation. Accordingly, he writes [i]n reality, all arguments from experience are
founded on the similarity, which we discover among natural objects, and by which
we are induced to expect effects similar to those, which we have found to follow from
such objects (p. 23). Based upon his writing, Hume explains people tend to reason a
particular instance and expect the future outcome depending on their past
experiences; they make conclusions with inductive reasoning. However, the induction
has the limitation because it doesn t guarantee future instances will resemble
previously observed ones.
An example of induction argument: Previously, the temperature of mid summer in
California has been always above 100 degrees Fahrenheit. Therefore, the temperature
of mid summer in California will always be

English Reflection
Growing up, English was always a struggle for me, I didn t like to read or write and, I
always found myself, especially trying to avoid reading at all costs. Up until first
grade Spanish was all I knew, so when I began school I had to learn the language
everyone already knew, English. English scared me and became difficult as I
feared that I was falling behind in a subject I should have already know. Soon I
found out I was right, during the dreaded parent conferences where my parents were
told I was below reading and writinglevels. My parents tried to encourage me write
and read more but I had no interest as at the time I felt that I was always gonna be
behind in English no matter how hard I tried. Later when I got high school things
changed, I took an advanced English class just challenge myself after that class, I
continued with advanced placement courses as I knew it was time to change my
mentality. After high school when I tested into English 49, I became disappointed
with my results of finding out that I needed to take English 49, as I believed my
writing skills were slightly more developed. Today I am glad that I got the
opportunity to take English 49 as with this course this semester I have improved in
structuring and organizing a five plus paragraph essay, in grammar and punctuation
and, in the analysis of an author s writing.
Throughout my writing I noticed that my ideas in my paragraphs were not always
organized I would talk about one topic and then jump to the
Jonas Salk Accomplishments
In the medical field, there have been many achievements by both men and women.
Whether it was developing, discovering, or being the first person to do something,
they all shared an impact on the way the medical field is today. I researched Jonas
Salk, the man who developed the Polio vaccine. I selected him because I believe he
has one the of biggest impacts on the medical field today. In my opinion, without
him, the Polio epidemic would still be killing many people, in not only the U.S., but
around the world as well. Jonas Salkwas born on October 28, 1914, in New York.
He grew up with parents who had never finished school. His parents had always
encouraged him to do well in school, and do better than they did. In fact, Jonas was

He knew that Polio caused paralysis, and invaded the nervous system. As a result,
he wanted to end the greatest epidemic in America at that time. As he began
researching, the president of the March of Dimes Foundation, Basal O Connor,
wanted to help Salk create the Polio vaccination. His goal was to fund Salk to find a
cure against Paralytic Poliomyelitis, or Polio. Jonas devoted the next 8 years of his
life working to develop the vaccine. He finally was able to create the vaccine, using
formaldehyde, or a chemical compound. Salk used the killed Polio virus to
immunize without being infected, or becoming infected after the injection. Soon
after the vaccine was created, they began to test it on monkeys; and then they
tested it on children who already had Polio at the Watson Institute. After that trial
was done, the testing spread to volunteers who wanted the vaccine; this included
Jonas, his wife, and his family. By 1954, national testing began on children
between the ages of 6 9. On April 12, 1955, they were able to conclude that the
vaccine was safe and effective. Salk became known as a miracle worker, although
he remained selfless. Jonas wanted no major payment, or recognition for the creation
of the vaccine. In fact, he credited that the vaccine creation was accomplished due to
the help of John Enders, a Harvard researcher. Enders was the man
How Does Tangylor Present Joey In Tangerine
The realistic fiction, Tangerine written by Edward Bloor is about a family
uncovering secrets in the first person point of view of, the main character, Paul
Fisher. Sight was used multiple times, in this novel, symbolically and was very
important because the character with the worst vision is the one who could see the
most. Through the motif of sight, Paul has a growing understanding of his friends,
familyand, himself.
In the first group Paul, experiences a growing understanding of his friends. Joey,
one of Paul s friends, believes that he is above better than everybody in Tangerine
middle. Nah. I just said I didn t need it. What do I need a guide dog for? A guide
dog? You re calling Theresa a guide dog? (151) When Joey calls Theresa a guide dog
he says it very casually. He calls theresa that as if he doesn t even care. So when
Paul questions him, he doesn t see how upset Paul actually is or how rude he is
being. However, Pauls other friend, Tino can see certain truths about Paul. You take

In the beginning of Tangerine Paul, doesn t understand why he has always hated
and been scared of his brother, Erik. Why didn t I answer the question? I used to
have an answer ready for that question.(39). Paul started questioning himself even
though he had a story. He didn t understand why he started to question his story.
However later in the story, he starts to remember his story. I remembered Castor.
Vincent Castor... I remembered spray paint on that wall. Erik and Vincent Castor had
found a can of white spray paint, and they had painted something... You re gonna pay
for telling on Castor. (263). As soon as Paul starts remembering he, finally, starts to
understand, see, why. Why he has always been scared, hated and not wanted to
confront Erik. He is finally able to uncover truth about himself, and he feels different,
happy and brave, now that he
Dwight D. Eisenhower s Speech
Dwight D. Eisenhower was one of Americas most influential presidents. He ended his
successful public career with a farewell speech outlining the growth of the nation and
warnings about the future. Firstly, I will examine the effectiveness of Eisenhower s
speech.
I found his speech to be well written, it held my attention and gave a clear message
to protect the future of the nation and its resources. I define a well written speech as
one that can keep an audience listening and wanting more. An effective speech must
also have a clear message, and not contradict itself. Eisenhower s speech concluded
his second term as President on a good note, and it gave the nation critical
information on national defense, innovation, and the future for our people.
Eisenhower s speech gave a clear message of national pride while also giving advice
on our scientific and military future.
Now I will discuss the location and historical significance of the speeches.
Eisenhower televised his speech live from the White House. This use of technology
allowed him to reach a wide audience, some of which who would not have been able
to attend his speech. The historical significance of his speech was the long successful
presidency that he was handing over to the much younger John F. Kennedy.
Now I will examine the structure of Eisenhower s speech. His speech began with a
brief introduction thanking the broadcasting companies and giving his blessing to his
successor, John F. Kennedy. The main
Gun Control vs. Gun Rights Essays
The second amendment states The right of the people to keep and bear arms . What
does that mean to us, basically and person in the United States is allowed to own
and keep a fire arm in house. Gun control advocates believe that right does not
extend to ownership of military style firearms that are otherwise known as assault
weapons. To curb gun related violence certain checks are made, such as mandatory
child safety locks, background checks on those wishing to purchase a gun, limits on
the number of guns a person can buy and raising the age limit for gun ownership.
Gun rights groups, led by the National Rifle Assocation, argue that these and other
proposals infringe on the constitutional rightsof law abiding citizens. They maintain...

Some gun manufacturers have volunteered support for safety locks, but the NRA
has criticized safety locks for placing an undue burden on gun manufacturers
without a proven benefit to the public. At the forefront of the debate over guns is
the assault weapons ban that went into effect in 1994. The ban, which was part of a
larger anti crime bill passed by Congress and signed by President Clinton that year,
applies to 19 specific models of semi automatic firearms and to other guns with
assault weapon features. The ban expired Sept. 13, 2004, and gun rights groups were
pressing Congress to allow the ban to lapse. Gun control advocates responded with a
massive public relations campaign encouraging voters to tell their elected
representatives that Congress should renew the ban.
The issue has become a hot potato in a presidential election year, with President Bush
and Sen. John Kerry taking positions designed not to infuriate voters on either side of
the debate. Bush said he supports an extension, but gun control advocates accused
him of failing to pressure Congress into action. Kerry announced his support for
extending the ban, even as his campaign sought to boost the Democratic presidential
nominee s credentials as a gun owner and hunter.
Republican congressional leaders say the ban was allowed to lapse because gun
control advocates in the House and Senate did not have enough votes to extend it.
They may be right.
Augustus Caesar
Augustus Caesar The First Roman Emperor
In ancient history there have been many great leaders who had saved the Roman
Empire from destruction and demise. The leaders and heroes of the Roman Empire
are countless, but one leader stands out from all the rest. Augustus Caesar s
contributions to Roman history helped make Rome the dominant empire we know of
today. Augustus Caesar was without a question the greatest political leader in the
history of the Roman Empire.
As a young adolescent, Octavian demonstrated his leadership ability long before
having thoughts of becoming the first emperor of Rome. His strengths, features, and
accomplishments as a military leader show only a part of his great political skills he
possessed. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Octavian could then concentrate his efforts on moving against Marc Antony, for total
control of the Roman Empire. The Battle of Actium in 31 BC was arguably one of
the most important naval battles in the history of the Roman Empire. The following
year in Egypt, Octavian and his army again defeat Antony. Consequently, Antony and
Cleopatra (Anotny s wife) commit suicide. With the victory at the Battle of Actium,
Octavian was now sole ruler of Rome and all its provinces.
Upon the defeat and death of Antony, Octavian proclaimed the restoration of the
Republic of Rome. However, he had no intention of stepping down as leader. In 27
BC Octavian placed the republic at the disposal of the Senate and the Roman people.
Octavian s position was now legitimized by the Senate s request that he command and
lead Rome. He was given the military command, known as Imperium for ten years.
This office included the administration of Roman provinces that required the presence
of the army. The official name of Octavian became Imperator Caesar Augustus From
that time would be known as Augustus, which means the Exalted .
Augustus received the tribuncian power for life and assumed the role of protector of
the Roman people. He also received the right to intervene in those provinces
administered by the Senate. The backbone of Augustus power came from being
Imperium of the military. It was of great importantance
Caproic Acid Synthesis Essay
Introduction In this lab, caproic acid was synthesized in a multi step process that
involved the synthesis of three intermediates diethyl n butylmalonate, potassium n
butylmalonate, and n butyl malonic acid respectively. An IR was used to characterize
the starting material, n bromobutane, and the first intermediate, diethyl n
butylmalonate; while IR and NMR were used to characterize the final product,
caproic acid.
Reactions, Mechanism and Theory
Caproic acid a.k.a n hexanoic acid is a carboxylic acid derived from hexane which
has the general formula C5H11COOH. It is a colorless oily liquid with a really
pungent odor associated with goats. Caproic acid was synthesized in a multi step

Damon The Mower Essay
In the final stanza, the Mower remembers back to the ideal past described in the first
stanza where he was in positive alignment with the Meadows. He then climactically
proclaims his final intentions to definitively murder the Meadows and himself. This
reference to earlier thoughts helps to justify Damon s actions by indicating advanced
forethought and reflection prior to his upsetting actions. Without this reference, his
murderous engagements would be seen more strongly as a whimsical decision based
upon fleeting emotional anguish rather than an unavoidable logical decision based
upon deep contemplation. Although no deathis directly depicted, the emotions of true
loss come across due to the finality of the Mower s dictations. This definiteness...

The Mower may be viewed as a twisted and corrupted version of this shepherd. A
shepherd represents the linear ideas of development, wisdom, and nurture in a
working environment and is often biblically idealized as a constant guiding force
that provides the world with a direct and noble service (Anderson 134 36). A
mower, while maintaining the essence of this occupation, represents ideas that have
been altered to more fully incorporate the axioms of paganism. A mower is only
occupationally active for short seasons each year, emphasizing an innate temporal
isolation or cyclic nature in this character by definition (Anderson 134). Where a
shepherd drives the constant development of life without any direct insinuation of
death, the Mower brings about new life through tightly stacked cycles of murder
(201 3). Each swing of his curved scythe slashes through blades of grass, creating
life in the new potential for continued growth and the potential nourishment offered
by hay while extinguishing the life contained in the severed shoots. The Mower
destroys what once was by creating something new in cycles that exist outside of a
shepherd s linear time. We can also see that the Mower is, in a biblical sense, fallen.

Email Scam Essay
It could be said that Phishing and Email scams are something that every Internet user
has to face at some point, probably almost on a daily basis. Over the last several
years phishing and email scams have increased tremendously, promising to enrich the
recipient with just a couple clicks and some personal information. Phishingalways
spikes with holiday shopping, celebrity scandals, weather disasters and big sporting
events (Bond, 2011). Phishing scams generally use fear and expectations. It is
almost unimaginable that there might be an Internet user with an email address that
hasn t received an email promising large sums of money from a Nigerian Prince. As
mentioned in other sections of this project, the goal is have consumers enticed into
revealing their personal identification and financial information on fraudulent
websites, also known as spoofed websites (Brody, Mulig, Kimball, 2007). As time
has gone on since these scams began appearing on the Internet, the scammers have
become more sophisticated. Emails appear more legitimate, appearing to be from
sources like the users bank, from the IRS and many other financial entities. In this
section we are going to discuss the various ways to discover these scams and what
steps should be taken to prevent falling victim to these scams.
In today s world, many Internet users visit websites in which require the use of
personal data, such as online banking sites, Paypal accounts, the Internal Revenue
Service, Facebook accounts, as
Enforcement Of Inspections Of Ffl Dealers
8. Enhance the enforcement of inspections of FFL dealers. In 2014, of the 140,000
FFL dealers in the U.S., only 10,429 were inspected (Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco,
Firearms and Explosives, 2015). This means roughly 7.5% of FFL dealers were
inspected during the 2014 fiscal year. By law ATF can only inspect FFL dealers
once a year, but it seems they aren t even capable of doing that. Dealers with
expired licenses, hazardous store conditions, stolen firearms and a myriad of other
issues and safety concerns go virtually undetected and continue to run their
business. It is no surprise that the illegal firearms market continues to grow and
that firearms dealers contribute heavily to this issue. In making sure FFL dealers
receive their annual inspection, it would increase the chance of a violation
becoming detected and therefore dealers possibly being more cautious and less
likely to conduct illegal transactions. 9. Increase the amount of cameras in parking
lots and inside firearms store. By increasing the number of cameras in parking lots
and inside stores you are increasing formal surveillance of potential buyers. If
dealers placed a camera in the store that had a sign stating the camera was
monitored by the ATF or another federal agency, it could deter potential straw
purchases by scaring potential buyers. Dealers could also bring customers to fill out
paperwork in an area that has a camera with a motion sensor light, another possible
scare tactic to make potential buyers second
The United States Post Civil War
The United States post Civil War era from 1875 to 1900 experienced massive
economic and industrial growth, especially in the North. The rise of new machines,
industries (railroad, oil, steel), and buildings contributed to a major upsurge in the
prosperity of the American nation. In 1860, no American city had a population over
one million; by 1890, three cities had passed the million mark. New York City
became the second largest city in the world after London in 1900. The substantial
growth of the U.S economically can be contributed to a group of wealthy capitalists
that ran businesses/industries and stimulated economic growth. However, historians
have argued over whether these capitalists were robber barons that were corrupt and
took advantage of the American people or captains of industry that helped the U.S
grow at unparalleled speeds. Wealthy capitalists such as Andrew Carnegie and John
D. Rockefeller were indeed captains of industry who enlarged American industry and
businesses, used their wealth to better their communities, and elevated the United
States to new heights as one of the leading industrial powers of the entire world. The
major wealthy capitalists of the time Andrew Carnegie, John D. Rockefeller, J.
Pierpont Morgan, and Cornelius Vanderbilt all played a tremendous role in
developing American industry and ultimately the economy as a whole. Through their
business ventures, they vastly increased the industrial output of America. For

My Personal Philosophy Of Different Religions
There are many different religions around the world like Christianity, Hinduism,
Buddhism, Atheism, Islam, etc. In my opinion all human beings have some sort of
their own personal philosophy that is guided mainly by their religion, if they have
one. Also each individual has gone through certain events that shape you as a person
and create their unique personal philosophy. In my case, my personal philosophy
mainly revolves around Catholicism.
Both of my parents were raised Catholics and have kept their religion until now.
They passed it onto my siblings and I. I remember going to church and praying at
mornings, before eating, and going to sleep since I was a child. Like most every
other small kid, I didn t like going to church and sit down for a whole hour, but now
I enjoy going to church and I feels normal to go there every Sunday. I went to a

In other words, you are not born extraordinary, you become extraordinary
depending on your actions. For example saving someone s life makes you
extraordinary, because this action must be done by someone who has an immense
amount of courage and a great heart and not every single one of us has those . I
definitely not agree with Raskolnikov s theory that extraordinary people have the
right to kill. In my opinion no one has the right to take away someone else s life,
and nothing will ever justify murder. It gets complicated when I think about self
defense for example, because if I was in a life or death situation where I had to kill
someone in order to survive, I think I wouldn t like to die, so I would kill the
person who wanted to harm me. Even though I really didn t want to kill this
person, I had to, it still doesn t justify it because only God decides who dies. Even
though someone may have to kill in order to survive, the fact that you killed someone

The Nazi Of The Third Reich And The Notorious Nazi Party
The empire of the Third Reich and the notorious Nazi Party will forever go down
in history as one of the most brutal and evil government organizations of the 20th
century. Inspired by the ideologies of ethnic cleansing and how Germans should be
the purest of all races, these ideas became rampant all across the country, and many
citizens believed that this horrible wrongness could be justified, it would be for the
greater good of the true Aryan people. The Nazis sent millions of innocent minorities

These ideas were born into a time when the very concepts of what race was and
how we differed as human beings was just starting to be explored. For centuries
people had lived in an age of ignorance, but that time was coming to pass. The age
of religious hysteria of the Great Awakening was slowly fading, while the time of
science and engineering was developing. People knew very little about the world
around them, and wanted to become educated to the theories of science. People
knew that different races existed, but wanted to know why. God had indeed created
them differently, but for what purpose? This question and more sparked society s
curiosity into the new topics of race and origins. Scientists were very intrigued about
the development of the human and devoted many years of study. One of the most
famous researchers was naturalist Charles Darwin, who wrote The Descent of Man
in 1871. Darwin compared man to animals, and that in order to produce healthy
offspring, the fittest could only survive to pass on the desired traits. With savages, the
weak in body or mind are soon eliminated; and those that survive commonly exhibit a
vigorous state of health. Darwin also agreed that races were indeed different species
of the human race. Races had ...many differences in structure and constitution. .
Scientists even compared blacks skulls to the ones of chimpanzees, noting the
similarity in contrast

United States Navy was the ivy league of the military branches and sticking with
his families urge to maintain public image, he did not want to enlist in the Army.
From a young age, Kennedy showed strong leadership skills; he led by example.
As a training officer, on one of the PT boats he commanded, they became stuck on
ground and wanted to know what was under there, rather than send somebody else
over the side, he went over himself. He didn t say to the executive officer, You go
over and look. He did it himself. He knew there are certain dangers in going over it
(Wood, 2005). By going over the side of the boat to see what they were stuck on,
Kennedy demonstrated that he was no better than any of his men and no task was
beneath him to complete personally. This is the sign of a true leader. Leaders have
an inner desire to better themselves; he was not content with just being a training
officer. He soon applied for combat duty

Rhode Island Nightclub Fire A fire can happen anywhere at any time, if the
conditions are right. These conditions could be, the condition of the building is in,
the weather, how many people are in the structure, or what is going on inside that
structure. A fire is defined as the rapid oxidation with evolution of heat and light
(flame) or as an uncontrolled combustion. An investigation happens at every fire so
that way the cause and origin are known (DeHaan, 2). A specific fire happened on
February 20, 2003, at a night in Rhode Island. The night club is called The Station,

Tim Beckman Violations In Sports
Tim Beckman, the head coach of The Fighting Illini collegiate football was fired
for allegations of mismanaging the health of student players on Friday, Aug. 28.
Athletic director Mike Thomas made the decision based on reviews. The
University of Illinois had a press conference regarding the issue at 4 p.m. ET. The
Chicago Tribune interviewed 50 players who were coached by Beckman and a law
firm interviewed 90 people while investigating allegations of misconduct. Beckman
was accused of pressuring players into playing despite physical injuries. Both of
those findings are unsettling violations of University policy and practice and do not
reflect the culture that we wish to create in athletic programs for our young people,
stated Thomas. I

Arrhythmias can lead to other complications like myocardial infarction, ventricular

Spider Man Stan Lee Quotes
Quote: With great power comes great responsibility. That quote came from the
Spider Man comic books but is most famous for the movie Spider Man in 2002. But
it has quite a bit of meaning. It is telling you that if you have power over something
you need responsibility to control that power. When Stan Leemade Spider Man he
knew he would have to have a special quote that would run through the whole
series. When Stan Lee first started making the comics into what he wanted to see,
and people loved it! Stan Lee completely changed the way comics were made, I
guess you could say that Stan Lee could have changed the world too. When Stan
Lee made the comics and then the movies about his heroes, it gave people
inspiration to be able to do things they were to scared or they thought were not
possible before. Just about everywhere you look you see something from marvel
something about his heroes. I believe that Stan Lee changed the way people saw the
world. And maybe how people saw each other. Stan Lee changed the world with his
heroes, and he can change you too.

Stan Lee was born on December 22, 1922, in Manhattan. His family included his
parents, Jack Lieber and Celia Lieber, and Stan Lee had a younger brother named
Larry Lieber.
Stan Lee loved to read and some of his favorite authors were Stephen King , H.G
Wells, Mark Twain, Arthur Conan Doyle, William Shakespeare, Charles Dickens,
Harlan Ellison and many more. Stan Lee was the older brother of Larry Lieber.
When his mom died later on during the great depression, Stan Lee had a lot of
responsibility when he was in charge of his brother. Stan Lee never really played
outside either because the weather was often bad. He mostly just stayed in his
house and read books that he really liked. Maybe the early reading influenced his
career in making comic books later in life.
Social Effects Of Smoking
Smoking, a word everyone is familiar with. From the time tobacco and cigarette were
created to today, the total number of smokers are still boomingгЂ‚On this planet,
millions of smokers inhale smoke right now. Smoking could bring good feelings to
the smokers but it s also could bring bad things to them. For smokers, they heard
smokingis bad for health, it causes heart attack and lung diseases and many other
things, they knew the dangers of smoking but many of them can t quit it or not
willing to quit it. People usually become less addictive to something they already
knew it s dangerous, but for smoking, it s not the case. So, I think smoking might
give smokers something special, and many positive feelings or results. A man also
told me he needs the help of cigaretteto become energetic and there are many social
values of tobacco. For example, in China, sometimes smoking is good for social
connection, it s could help a stranger to get closer to each other when people met for
the first time, they often ask each other do you smokeпјЊif the answer is yes, people
will give them cigarettes to smoke. It shows kindness and helps to develop a
friendship. The fact that people use cigaret to socialize with people interested me, so
I interviewed an ex smoker for a better understanding of smoking. This interview was
conducted over the phone because he and I live in two different countries. In short, it
was a very good opportunity to talk with him and get to know many things from
Gait Rehabilitation
An important aspect of the rehabilitation process is gait training following
amputation. Majority of amputees can regain the ability to walk functional distances
after surgery, but gait deviations are extremely common. Gait impairments contribute
to increasing energy requirements for walking as well as the development of
debilitating musculoskeletal diseases. Transfemoral amputees often demonstrate
deviations in frontal plane kinematics of the pelvis and trunk; they have a
contralateral rise of the pelvis during midstance on the prosthetic limb instead of
maintaining a neutral position. Normalizing this frontal plane deviation following an
amputation is important in restoring a stable gait pattern, but doing so with available

The Fate of the True Woman in The Blithedale Romance
The female characters in Nathaniel Hawthorne s The Blithedale Romance, Zenobia
and Priscilla, differ in their representations of womanhood. Zenobia begins as an
independent character, whom later surrenders to Hollingsworth s control, whereas
Priscilla is ever submissive to his desires. This determines how the male characters,
Coverdale and Hollingsworth, view both women. Coverdale and Hollingsworth are
first enamored by Zenobia s charm, but both fall for Priscilla s docility. Zenobia
represents female independence and Priscilla embodies feminine subservience; the
triumph of Priscilla casts the male vote in this novel unanimously ... Show more

Coverdale describes her as being like a flower shrub that had done its best to
blossom in too scanty light (Hawthorne 27). The only time she appears truly aroused
is when she hears Zenobia and Coverdale discussing the idea of women in power,
and distraught, asserts she cannot think this is true and does not wish it so
(Hawthorne 122). Priscilla is only agitated by one concept the destruction of the True
Woman.
In the beginning, both Hollingsworth and Coverdale are enamored by Zenobia
Hollingsworth by her wealth and Coverdale by her beauty. It is apparent that wealth
is Hollingsworth s true attraction to Zenobia since the realization that she is not rich
is what drives them apart. She says to him, I was willing to realize your dream . . .
though it should prove the ruin of my fortune; however, when she has no fortune to
ruin he no longer wants her (Hawthorne 217).
Coverdale claims that he is attracted to Zenobia s intelligence and independence.
When she relates her plans to lecture on behalf of women s rights, he thinks it surely
behoved [sic] Zenobia to be the champion of her sex (Hawthorne 123). It seems,
however, that he is mostly attracted to her physical charms. He alludes to her beauty
often, and even ventures to say that something in her manner, irresistibly brought up a
picture of that fine, perfectly developed figure in Eve s earliest garment (Hawthorne
17). Such allusions, combined with his later betrayal, indicate that his attraction is

lifecycle. These writings can take many different forms. From speeches, personal or
public journal entries, newspaper or magazine writings, to internet blogs; just to
name a few. In my lifecycle now and in the future I will use writing in several
different forms. College papers, is the first form of writing that I am currently

Journal writings for me are personal. Although, I do use journal writings within this
English course as well. While writing most of my journals are personal, it does feel
wonderful to get my thoughts and feelings out onto paper. It is the most freeing and
enjoyable form of writing that I use. Speeches are the third form of writing that I
currently use and will continue to use throughout my college career. Speeches are
the most dreaded form of writing for me. When writing a speech I have a tendency
to overthink and revise my speech several times, never getting it to be just perfect.
Although speeches are a form of writing that I currently use and will use throughout
my college career, I am hopeful that I will not have to use them after college. Emails
and letters are the final form of writing that I use in my day to day and will continue
to use throughout life. While emails and letters are a shorter form of writing, I find
that if they are not composed correctly, they can be misconstrued. When composing
these writings, as with most writings you need to watch the format, wording,
capitalization, and punctuation. I find this to be the most frequently used form of
writing that I currently use and will continue to

Maxine Hong Kingston s autobiography, The Woman Warrior, features a young
Chinese American constantly searching for an unusual bird that would serve as her
impeccable guide on her quest for individuality (49). Instead of the flawless guide she
seeks, Kingston develops under the influence of other teachers who either seem
more fallible or less realistic. Dependent upon their guidance, she grows under the

The first response, Yes, I have . . . Thank you. signifies the conventional Chinese
response, valuing politeness, displaying modesty and consideration of the other,
saving face (Ling 147). However, Kingston wants to give the assimilated American
response, valuing honesty and directness, frankly looking out for number one, and
tinged with humor, and Kingston thinks to herself No, I haven t. . . . I m starved.
Do you have any cookies? I like chocolate chip cookies (Ling 147). As evidence of
Kingston s indecisiveness, Ling clarifies Kingston s cultural disorientation
perceptible in her word choice:
The expressed fondness for chocolate chip cookies seems a playful and somewhat
greedy response, which I m sure Kingston intended. Can it then be that Kingston is
advocating Chinese politeness at the same time that she is complaining about it? Is
she subverting American directness while seeming to embrace it? (Ling 147).
At this point in her autobiography, Kingston remains disoriented about her position in
the two enveloping cultures, and Ling suggests this idea by considering the
significance of Kingston s two culturally different responses rather than only one
either American or Chinese.

What some of the society thinks is that farming was a good idea and others think

transition from hunting and gathering. It has caused people to not have to work just

farming provided humans with much greater quantities of foodthan hunting and

With families being able to settle that meant that they did not have to move around
so often but with hunting and gathering you would have to move around more and

Secondly, After all, aren t we better off today than hunter gatherers were, thanks to
our clever agricultural ancestors? We do not have to hunt wooly mammoths for
meat, dig for roots, chew hides to soften them for clothing, or build our houses

Surely, our lives today are a great improvement over the lives of hunter gatherers.

body measurements. So it is very important for a dress maker to know how to take
accurate measurements. For a successful garment cutting, one must know the size

with the eight head theory (Adu Boakye et.al 2012). 2.1.1 Body Anatomy The father
of tailoring Mr. Wampon drew seven imaginary lines across the body structure for the
purpose of easy measurement in tailoring. The whole body structure was lengthwise

Depictions of the Afterlife
The afterlife as a residence for souls after death has long been a topic of discussion
and debate. This idea intrigues many. As Christians we believe that heaven is a
place where believers go where life there will be a continuation of their present life,
while hell is a place of judgment and punishment where many experience severe
treatment. Direct experience is the only way individuals can experience these
concepts, but once we obtain the experience it cannot be shared. This ultimately
makes us want to know more leading many to visualize the afterlife. Starting with
the earliest Greek Epics, such as The Iliad, society has imagined an Underworld, a
place beneath the Earth where souls go once the body dies. Our thoughts and
expectations about such an idea have changed over time; the idea of the
Underworld continues in many Greek and Latin poems and it still used today
(Spiegel). The best descriptions of the afterlife are found in Dante s Divine Comedy.
In his first book, The Inferno, Dante explores Hell, a place in which sinners dwell
after they die. His account is mainly taken from Book VI of Virgils The Aeneid,
which describes Aeneas s journey into the Underworld to visit his father. These two
works, written many years apart share similar ideas about life after deathand it makes
us consider the changes in society s thoughts over these times. There are obvious
differences found between these two stories and they correlate with the different
beliefs society has about the

Intelligence Correlations Between Brothers Decrease With Increasing Age Difference
Topic Background/Introduction
In this article, the researchers is the study how the age difference between brothers
affect the correlation between their intelligence test scores. They describe how there
has not been much research on the effect of age difference between siblings
(specifically brothers) on intelligence. There have been many other studies that have
shown that while both genes and differences in one s environment may create
differences between people, familial similarities are caused mostly by shared genes
(SSS. Studies using participants that were adopted show that intelligences seems to
vary with age. For instance, the correlation between the intelligence test scores of
young children who are not related is much higher than that of the same children
during adolescence. Other studies, using twins, suggest that shared environmental
effects are present in childhood and early adulthood, but are absent in late adulthood.
The researchers mention that studying adopted children, who are usually brought into
affluent and well functioning? Homes, show that they are not representative of the
entire population. There are many more factors, when studying adopted siblings, and
identical/fraternal twins that can lead to an overestimation or underestimation of the
effects of either the shared environment or familial genetics. The researchers suggest
that new data in needed to solve
The Celsus Ephesus Library
In the modern day Turkey, wide road of Marble slopes down to Celsus Ephesus
Library, one of the ancient world libraries. In Ephesus, the library is one of the
most beautiful structures. Construction of the building took place between 117AD
and 135AD (Laale, 76). Vitruoya, a Roman architect designed the structure. The
library was to memorize Celsus Polemeanus, a Roman senator, province of Asia
General Governor. It was Julius Aquila Celsus son initiative. Specifically Celsus
loved books. The design of the library takes the form of Roman architecture
(Francis, Jarzombek, Prakash, 65). Celsus grave was under the ground floor inside a
tomb of marble and in a lead container. The grave was across the entrance and over it
was the Athena statue. This is because Athena was wisdom goddess. A significant
element about the buildingis the storage of manuscript scrolls. They manuscripts
scrolls were put in cupboards in the walls niches. Behind bookcase were double
walls to prevent the scrolls from extreme humidity and temperature. The library had
a capacity of over 12000 scrolls (Foss, 78). The other main reason for the library was
as a monument for Celsus.
According to Foss, (119) Celsus library was the third wealthiest library in the
ancient period after Pergamum and Alexandra. The structure was made of perfect
marble and bedecked with figures of Nike, garlands in relief, Eros and rosettes
(Laale, 98). The building shows the attributes of Emperor Hadrian age. The library

Just like many keyboard designs that utilize the letter or word frequencies to layout
their keys, we want to utilize the blocks frequencies. To accomplish this, we
looked for Blockly programs sources. Code Studio, a website offering online
courses created by Code.org, is used by millions of students [14]. It relies heavily
on Blockly to teach programming concepts. Therefore, we choose it as a reference
for Blockly programs. We counted the frequency of each block that was asked to
be input in all the offered activities. However, if the activity asks the users to input
less than 10 blocks we did not include that activity in the statistics. We chose not to
include such activities because they have few blocks that do not represent a
common block base program. Commonly, an activity with few blocks just teaches
how to input blocks rather than teaching programming concepts or problems
solving. This left us with 47 Blockly programs from courses 2,3, and 4. We found
that the average input task consists of 19 blocks. Table I shows the frequency of
block types. The Code Studio activities did not ask the students to input all the block
types in Blockly as can be noticed from the
Disadvantages Of Shinhan Bank
Shinhan Bank America is a non member bank with a headquarters in New York. A
non member bank is a state chartered commercial bank, but not a member of the
Federal Reserve System ( All Institution Types Defined ). It is spread out in five
different states with 16 domestic branches, with total assets of $1,308,996,000. The
Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) regulates Shinhan BankAmerica with
the purpose of preserving and promoting public confidence in the U.S. financial
system by insuring deposits in banks and thrift institutions for at least $250,000; by
identifying, monitoring and addressing risks to the deposit insurance funds; and by
limiting the effect on the economy and the financial system when a bank or thrift
institution fails ( Who is the FDIC ).
Shinhan Bank America specializes in commercial lending. Commercial loan enables
a business entity to activate and subsequently obtain a finance stream, to help

Examples Of Sexism In Whale Rider
Whale Rider Paragraph 2 Jonathon Hogg A major theme in the film Whale Rider
(produced in 2004 and directed by Niki Caro) is Bullying mainly in the form of
sexism. Throughout the film Koro (Paikea s Grandfather), is sexist towards Paikea
(Main Character and Heroine) and children of the male gender. The theme is
relevant to society today because there will always be sexist people wherever you
go. The director (Caro) shows that Koro is sexist by subjecting male and female
roles and making sure that the traditions of the Maori stay the same. Paikea is
unable to do the traditional dance of the Maori or use the Taha because it was
considered a Male Role within the tribe and Males weren t supposed to cry because
it would make them seem weak
Pros And Cons Of A Car
Car is one of the basic transportations that are needed by us. It goes along with trains,
buses, ships, airplanes, and any other means of transportations, which help people
travel to different places without so much effort and time wasted.
In ancient times, people only walk if they wanted to go to a different place, while
others are using horses to make the journey faster. However, not all of them are rich
enough to have a horse. As time passes by, few people were born with gifted minds
and were able to discover and invent the train. And without people noticing, new
technologies were introduced in different aspects such as communications,
machineries, transportations, etc.
Car is the result of those never ending innovations in transportation technology. Every
year, new car models with unique and specific functions are released and introduced
to the public. From the steam powered ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Because of these, many rental car companies penalize even those young drivers with
good records by restricting some type of cars that will be rented, charging high daily
fees and sometimes, banning some drivers to rent a car.
In most times, drivers at the age of 18 to 21 are impossible to rent since they are
renting a car under 25 years of age. But now, if you are in the ages between 21 and
24, you can rent cars in different places managed by Thrifty, Enterprise, Advantage,
Budget, Avis, Dollar, National and Hertz. However, they still need to pay daily fees
which vary on different locations. Luxury vehicles and SUVs are also prohibited for
this age bracket although some companies may reconsider to have these cars be
rented but with higher daily fees.
So, if you want to rent a car even though you rent a car under 25 years of age at car
rental companies, here are some of the things that you need to
La Haine Review Essay
La Haine Review
La Haine , a 93 minute film regarding about three adolescents(Vincent Cassel,
Hubert Kounde, and Said Taghmaoui) who struggle to cope in a poverty stricken
environment in which hatred and violence are part of everyday life. Even the title
La Haine which is a French word, translated to The Hatred suggests what the film is
about. Based on a true event, La Haine is inspired by a real event where a young man
was murdered while being questioned at a Parisian Police station. In exploring racism
in the Paris suburbs, this film has a direct contrast with more typical French films,
such as Amelie(2001) which presents a far more romantic and idyllic vision of
French life. The beginning of La Haine shows the beating of a ... Show more content

This environment reinforces the adolescent s need to construct a masculine identity
as Les Banlieues is a dangerous, threatening society to live in so this reinforces the
need for a masculine identity because the adolescents feel that they have succeed in
certain situations that requires physical strength and fitness and also tend to express
themselves verbally and physically. This is shown after the beginning when Vinz has
a banter with Said.
Kassovitz develops the identities of Vinz, Said and Hubert in certain scenes. In
the scene where Vinz finds a policeman s gun, his normal persona changes as Vinz
vows to kill every policeman if the trio s friend,Abdel, dies. This depicts his
masculinity as Vinz is subtly pressured to act masculine due to Abdel being in
hospital and if Vinz appears to look or become weak then it will appear to Said and
Hubert that Vinz is more feminine if Vinz expresses his emotions. This will also, as
a whole, ruin Vinz s self esteem. Another scene where there is another development
of Vinz s identity is the scene where the trio confronts an off duty cop. Vinz
seemingly plays with the cop with the gun in his hand, suggesting that they should
kill the cop. This shows another development in Vinz s masculine identity as Vinz is
was challenged by Hubert that he won t kill a cop and this threatens his identity and

The Cinematic Features Displayed in Pleasantville and The Truman Show
The following essay, which I have composed, is based on two important films of
the last decade. Their titles are Pleasantville and The Truman Show . Starting with
the Pleasantville , the general overview of the film s plot gets more complicated the
further you get into it. It brings up several issues all of which I have commented on
in this essay.
The film starts with two teenagers, David and Jennifer. David has an addiction to old
reruns of a fifties sitcom also by the name of Pleasantville . Jennifer is the complete
opposite of her brother, leading a rather promiscuous lifestyle. During an argument,

This television show would be live twenty four hours a day, seven days a week
filming this unwanted pregnancy s life. They name the baby Truman Burbank, and
the show, The Truman Show. The film starts when Truman is in his mid to late
twenties with an ideal job, wife and home in the town which is Seahaven. I will
relate more to this town in the next section. All this is, from actors to the weather, is
controlled by Christof, the director of the show. He controls everything around
Truman and will be talked about more in the next section.
The towns of Pleasantville and Seahaven, the sets for both films are similar in
ways and different in others. The main similarity is how both are supposed to be
perfect worlds . Pleasantville, the first perfect world, is based on what most
American fifties sitcoms were truly like. They also repeat re runs of these shows
even today just like Pleasantville the TV show is in the film. These sitcoms
usually featured wholesome American families consisting of a father, mother and
two children, a boy and a girl. Their lives were basically the same. The two children
would grow up, get married and have children whilst the husband would go to work
and the wife would stay at home. In Pleasantville the town, this is what the
population s lives are really like. They also have tacky phrases such as Honey, I m

Famine In Somalia Research Paper
Disasters in Somalia How many of you know what famine is? Famine is an
extreme and long term shortage of food that leads to widespread hunger and
sometimes death to millions of people. Granted, many of you may be aware of what
famine might be, however, there are very few if not any of you that have experienced
this firsthand. Unfortunately, the people of Somalia and Ethiopia don t happen to be
as fortunate as us. Everyday thousands of people continue to die from starvation,
dehydration, diseases, and the list can go on. Both Somalia and Ethiopia are located
within the far north eastern part of Africa. Famineproblems within this part of the
country dates back to the late 1900 s. During the early 1990 s, more than 300,000
Comparing Sheridan s Ice Cream
Many of us have days where our sweet tooth is outrageous, and nothing will satisfy
our craving until we sit down and have a big bowl of ice cream. Living right in the
middle of Sheridan s and Dairy Queen, two well known ice cream places, I found
myself debating where I should go to get ice cream all the time, but later found out
that these two places are extremely different. Sheridan s has better quality ingredients
in their products, allows the buyer to get what they paid for, and has an overall better
menu than Dairy Queen. To start off, Sheridan s offers better quality ingredients.
Around the beginning of September, when autumn is right around the corner, both
places start serving the traditional pumpkin pie dessert. Working at Dairy... Show

The products they put into everything that they make are a better quality. You
actually can see all of the ingredients and know where everything that you are
eating is coming from. Sheridan s prices are amazing for the quality and sizes of
the treats they serve. Even though you are paying $5.00 for something, they give
you enough that you can easily share with another person, and if you did decide to
share it would only be $2.50 a person! On top of all this, Sheridan s menu is
predictable, yet unpredictable. They constantly are having new things added to the
menu that you can try, but if you know that you won t like something, they have
the things you know you will like to fall back on, making customers have more
choices, and want to come back more because they won t get bored of the same 10
choices. Overall, Sheridan s is the better ice cream place to
The Story Of Drinking
Cliff sat down next to Jensen watching the other alpha down two whiskey shots in

admonished. C mon Jensen, I watched you kick Jared s ass today. What s going on
with you? Christ, I don t know, I m losing my mind. It s not one thing that Jared
did, more of a series of things that have happened. Give me an example? Jensen
paused for a few minutes. When Jared first started his tour he d call me every night;
then he couldn t because they had to have dinner with this guy or go to a party with
that guy etcetera, etcetera. I was irritated, but I did get it, so I let it slide. Well, I

shook his head. Weak Ackles. Go collect your mate tonight; teach him his place
and breed him. It s that simple. Jensen stood up tossing a few twenties onto the bar.
Cliff downed his drink and attempted to stand up, but Jensen reached out grabbed
his shoulder and pushed him back down. I ll walk. I need to clear my head. Jensen
said. The next morning Jared and Misha arrived at the studio early. Jared decides
to wait in his trailer for Jensen to come and talk to him. Finally, a knock at the door
had Jared up and off the couch racing to the door. Opening the door his face
dropped when he saw it was the costume manager. Happy to see you too, sunshine.
C mon it s time to get ready for your scene. Yeah, ok. I ll be right there.
Disappointed Jared closed the door grabbed a few things including his collar
before leaving his trailer. He didn t see Jensen until their first scene together.
Jensen hit his lines perfectly, but Jared was nervous; missed his cue, and the
director had to cut the scene. Cut! Ackles get control of Jared. We re fucking
wasting time here. Jensen grabbed Jared by his elbow leading him away from the
crew. Get your head out of your ass, don t embarrass me again. Jensen hissed in Jared
s ear.
Letter of Appeal Essay
I am studying to become a Licensed Practical Nurse. I am writing to appeal for my
financial aid. I feel a letter was proper because of certain circumstances that occurred
during my life that contributed to me withdrawing from Psychology, College prep
writing, college prep arithmetic and failing PRN 0374. I began attending MiamiDade
College in the fall of August 2006 right after I graduated from high school. I enrolled
in several courses which were Psychology, College prep writing and College prep
arithmetic. In October 2006 I found out I was pregnant with my daughter Jada. After
finding out I was pregnant one month later I began getting really sick with morning
sickness. My morning sickness lasted until my fifth month of pregnancy,... Show

Throughout the course of the LPN I ve came across several trial and tribulations
where there were several occasions I had to come to class with my daughter
because I could not find someone to watch my daughter, which was the reason
why I failed the PRN0374 course. There were days that I had to miss class because
I could not find a babysitter and there were times where my babysitter would cancel
on me last minute. Many of the times I took chances bringing my daughter to school
with me and having to hide her in the back of the classroom just so the professor
wouldn t send me home because she was with me.
Now that I ve found a reliable sitter for my daughter I am doing a lot better in my
PRN class and I m looking forward to going to clinicals and graduating with my
classmates. I ve come very far with different obstacles that I was faced with but I
am determined and motivated to finish Miami Dade College and become a nurse
to give my daughter the future she deserves. I refuse to let anything come in
between me reaching my goals and finishing school. I ve learned now before I
withdraw from anything in life to look at other options in order to handle the
situation better. Education is extremely important to me and I am a student who is
very serious about my future and the upcoming semester will prove so. Regardless
of my previous poor work ethic, I am a mature person and if given a chance, I will

Narnia Foils
In literature, a foil is a person, object, or idea that is contrasted with another in
order to highlight and enhance its qualities. These are great literary devises which
are used to draw focus to the desired emphasis of a story. For example, in The
Chronicles of Narnia, specifically The Silver Chair and The Last Battle, Jill and
Eustace are foils for each other. Their personalities balance each other out which
allows them to highlight each other s strengths and weaknesses. However, they aren t
just foils for each other, though. In The Silver Chair, the two of them together serve
as foils for the characternamed Puddleglum. They are eager to dive head first into
their adventure while Puddleglum, with his pessimistic outlook, is always either...

He serves as a guide and a protector for the children. There are multiple occasions in
which Puddleglum saves the children from almost certain death. The first instance
that comes to mind is also in the giant city of Harfang. Had it not been for
Puddleglum, the children would have likely gone into completely panic, been
caught, and certainly been eaten. Instead, Puddleglum does a wonderful job of
keeping the children calm for as long as possible and giving them the perfect time
to make a break for it and escape. Once the company made was in Underland and
the Queen returned to find them there, she attacked them at once and tried to put all
of them under a spell. Puddleglum bravely lunged towards the Queen and put out
the magic fire. He severely burned himself in this process and yet he continued to
watch after the children. The Queen turned herself into a serpent and attacked
Prince Rilian Eustace and Rilian himself, along with Puddleglum, despite his
wounds, kill the Queen with their swords. In a way, Puddleglum is almost a foil for
himself! He displays all the attributes of a heroic character while being perpetually
distraught and pessimistic. These traits typically do not mix, yet Lewis does an
outstanding job of making it work for this
Outlawing The 8th Amendment
The constitution says nothing pertaining to capital punishment, thus the supreme
court left the decision up to individual states to decide what to do with their residents.
Some states, such as Michigan, do not partake in the death penalty. Eighteen states
have completely outlawed the act, and many more have not executed a person in over
a decade. This permissible act is degrading to human dignity and violates the eighth
amendment. This amendment states that the federal government is not allowed to
impose excessive bail, excessive fines, or cruel and unusual punishment upon United
States citizens, yet every state was given the power to execute its occupants if they
are involved in a wrongdoing of sorts. The sentencing process is too significant

Brain tumor detection is a tedious job because of the complex structure of the brain.
From the MR images, the information such as tumor location can be understood. It
provides an easier way to diagnose the tumor and plan the surgical approach for its
removal. Doctors do not have a method that can be used for brain tumor detection and
standardization, which leads to varying conclusions between one doctor to another.
There comes the requirement of an automated system for locating tumor in Magnetic
Resonance Image (MRI).
The existing classification methods have limitation in accuracy, exactness and require
manual interaction. So, designing automated system using image segmentation
techniques helps make the detection accurate and efficient.
A new system that can be used as a second decision for the surgeons and radiologists
is proposed. In this system, brain tumors have been segmented with the help of two
methods that is Enhanced K Strange Points and K Means algorithms followed by
Morphological Filtering.
The Enhanced K Strange Points Clustering algorithm converged faster with less
number of steps than the K Means Clustering algorithm.
Segmentation of brain image is imperative in surgical planning and treatment
planning in the field of medicine. In this work, we have proposed a computer aided
system for brain MR image segmentation using Enhanced K Strange Points Clustering

The Value Of How I Am Seen
The Value of How I Am Seen Frequently traveling and uprooting what I have
considered to be home has left my family as one of the only constants in my life.
Through the great deal of experiences and challenges I have faced alongside my
family, I have learned through both positive and negative means some of the things I
truly value. The interactions between my sister and I in particular are predominantly
amiable, but over some of the coarser periods of time in our relationship, our personal
vendettas against one another have shown me that I valuemy public image above
most things in life. It is for this reason when asked to give something of true value
away, I have chosen to hand the keys of my kingdom to my sister, in the form of
my Facebook email and password information. While this material may seem like
an inconsequential offering to observers of different generations or walks of life,
it is the nature and history of my relationship with my sister coupled with the
significance this information holds to me that tells of the true sacrifice made in
giving access to such a powerful tool. Before analyzing the degree to how much I
valued what I gave my sister, it is important to understand what true value is. While
value in terms of a currency or some means of exchange is seemingly one of the
easier ways to determine something s worth, an item s history to the owner and the
impact of its absence is a better determinate of its true value. I have found that in my

Differences in slave laws in British North America and Colonial Brazil Slavery as it
existed in colonial Brazil contained interesting points of comparison and contrast with
the slave system existing in British North America. The slaves in both areas had been
left with very little opportunity in which he could develop as a person. The degree to
which the individual rightsof the slave were either protected or suppressed provides a
clearer insight to the differences between North American and Brazilian slavery. The
laws also differed greatly between the two areas and have been placed into three
categories: term of servitude, police and disciplinary powers, and property and other
civil rights. Point One: In both systems of slavery,... Show more content on

The law also made a more concerted attempt to protect the slave against mistreatment
by his master. Mistreatment of a slave could lead both to the freedom of the slave
and to the imprisoning of the master. Point Three: The slave in British North America
could not own property and had absolutely no civil rights. The law clearly stated
that he could neither own, inherit, nor will property, couldn t engage in buying or
selling anything except at the pleasure of his master. In contrast, the slave in Brazil
could own property, could engage in buying and selling, and was also guaranteed
Sundays, holidays, and other times which to work for his own advancement. In
short, the law implied that while the master could own a man s labor, he could not
own the man as a person. In conclusion, it is not easy to make a comparison
between the two slave systems. Brazilian slave masters often evaded the law and
could be exceedingly brutal and British North American masters were often much
more lenient than the law required. Conditions were usually more severe in Brazil
and this may have worsened the actual material situation of the Brazilian slave. In
North America the slave was treated like a thing and in Brazil there was some
attempt to treat him as a man. This fact made a profound difference in the way the
two systems affected the slave as an individual and in the way in which they
impinged upon the development of his

  • 2. Battle Of Manassas The first major battle to be fought during the American Civil War took place on July 1, 1861 near Manassas, Virginia. The 1st Battle of Manassas, commonly known as The Battle of Bull Run by Union forces, saw an estimated 28,400 Union soldiers attempt to quickly defeat the Confederate army whose numbers out manned theirs. Believing the war would not last long and that the South would fall if defeated in a major battle, Brigadier General Irvin McDowell, under the instruction of President Lincoln, led an army who was overwhelmingly under trained in a major battle setting to confront the forces of General Pierce Gustave Beauregard in Northern Virginia. General Beauregard had been recruiting men for the war effort since the spring of 1861 in an
  • 3. An Enquiry Concerning Human Understanding By David Hume Essay Universal Perfect Doesn t Exist: Genuine Knowledge Means Shift It has been many years, the foundation of all genuine knowledge, whether they are found on experience (empiricism) or they could simply gain from pure reasoning (rationalism) has been the subject of academic debate among scholars. However, we will only focus on the limitation of pure reasoning, compare both David Hume and Rene Descartes views of knowledge, and decide whose belief works better to attain genuine knowledge in this paper. In the book An Enquiry Concerning Human Understanding , David Hume specifically clarifies on how moral reasoning (induction) works in the knowledge of cause and effect and he shares on its limitation. Accordingly, he writes [i]n reality, all arguments from experience are founded on the similarity, which we discover among natural objects, and by which we are induced to expect effects similar to those, which we have found to follow from such objects (p. 23). Based upon his writing, Hume explains people tend to reason a particular instance and expect the future outcome depending on their past experiences; they make conclusions with inductive reasoning. However, the induction has the limitation because it doesn t guarantee future instances will resemble previously observed ones. An example of induction argument: Previously, the temperature of mid summer in California has been always above 100 degrees Fahrenheit. Therefore, the temperature of mid summer in California will always be

  • 5. English Reflection Growing up, English was always a struggle for me, I didn t like to read or write and, I always found myself, especially trying to avoid reading at all costs. Up until first grade Spanish was all I knew, so when I began school I had to learn the language everyone already knew, English. English scared me and became difficult as I feared that I was falling behind in a subject I should have already know. Soon I found out I was right, during the dreaded parent conferences where my parents were told I was below reading and writinglevels. My parents tried to encourage me write and read more but I had no interest as at the time I felt that I was always gonna be behind in English no matter how hard I tried. Later when I got high school things changed, I took an advanced English class just challenge myself after that class, I continued with advanced placement courses as I knew it was time to change my mentality. After high school when I tested into English 49, I became disappointed with my results of finding out that I needed to take English 49, as I believed my writing skills were slightly more developed. Today I am glad that I got the opportunity to take English 49 as with this course this semester I have improved in structuring and organizing a five plus paragraph essay, in grammar and punctuation and, in the analysis of an author s writing. Throughout my writing I noticed that my ideas in my paragraphs were not always organized I would talk about one topic and then jump to the
  • 6. Jonas Salk Accomplishments In the medical field, there have been many achievements by both men and women. Whether it was developing, discovering, or being the first person to do something, they all shared an impact on the way the medical field is today. I researched Jonas Salk, the man who developed the Polio vaccine. I selected him because I believe he has one the of biggest impacts on the medical field today. In my opinion, without him, the Polio epidemic would still be killing many people, in not only the U.S., but around the world as well. Jonas Salkwas born on October 28, 1914, in New York. He grew up with parents who had never finished school. His parents had always encouraged him to do well in school, and do better than they did. In fact, Jonas was the first... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He knew that Polio caused paralysis, and invaded the nervous system. As a result, he wanted to end the greatest epidemic in America at that time. As he began researching, the president of the March of Dimes Foundation, Basal O Connor, wanted to help Salk create the Polio vaccination. His goal was to fund Salk to find a cure against Paralytic Poliomyelitis, or Polio. Jonas devoted the next 8 years of his life working to develop the vaccine. He finally was able to create the vaccine, using formaldehyde, or a chemical compound. Salk used the killed Polio virus to immunize without being infected, or becoming infected after the injection. Soon after the vaccine was created, they began to test it on monkeys; and then they tested it on children who already had Polio at the Watson Institute. After that trial was done, the testing spread to volunteers who wanted the vaccine; this included Jonas, his wife, and his family. By 1954, national testing began on children between the ages of 6 9. On April 12, 1955, they were able to conclude that the vaccine was safe and effective. Salk became known as a miracle worker, although he remained selfless. Jonas wanted no major payment, or recognition for the creation of the vaccine. In fact, he credited that the vaccine creation was accomplished due to the help of John Enders, a Harvard researcher. Enders was the man

  • 8. Dwight D. Eisenhower s Speech Dwight D. Eisenhower was one of Americas most influential presidents. He ended his successful public career with a farewell speech outlining the growth of the nation and warnings about the future. Firstly, I will examine the effectiveness of Eisenhower s speech. I found his speech to be well written, it held my attention and gave a clear message to protect the future of the nation and its resources. I define a well written speech as one that can keep an audience listening and wanting more. An effective speech must also have a clear message, and not contradict itself. Eisenhower s speech concluded his second term as President on a good note, and it gave the nation critical information on national defense, innovation, and the future for our people. Eisenhower s speech gave a clear message of national pride while also giving advice on our scientific and military future. Now I will discuss the location and historical significance of the speeches. Eisenhower televised his speech live from the White House. This use of technology allowed him to reach a wide audience, some of which who would not have been able to attend his speech. The historical significance of his speech was the long successful presidency that he was handing over to the much younger John F. Kennedy. Now I will examine the structure of Eisenhower s speech. What does that mean to us, basically and person in the United States is allowed to own and keep a fire arm in house. Gun control advocates believe that right does not extend to ownership of military style firearms that are otherwise known as assault weapons. To curb gun related violence certain checks are made, such as mandatory child safety locks, background checks on those wishing to purchase a gun, limits on the number of guns a person can buy and raising the age limit for gun ownership. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Some gun manufacturers have volunteered support for safety locks, but the NRA has criticized safety locks for placing an undue burden on gun manufacturers without a proven benefit to the public. At the forefront of the debate over guns is the assault weapons ban that went into effect in 1994. The ban, which was part of a larger anti crime bill passed by Congress and signed by President Clinton that year, applies to 19 specific models of semi automatic firearms and to other guns with assault weapon features. The ban expired Sept. 13, 2004, and gun rights groups were pressing Congress to allow the ban to lapse. Gun control advocates responded with a massive public relations campaign encouraging voters to tell their elected representatives that Congress should renew the ban. The issue has become a hot potato in a presidential election year, with President Bush and Sen. John Kerry taking positions designed not to infuriate voters on either side of the debate. Bush said he supports an extension, but gun control advocates accused him of failing to pressure Congress into action. Kerry announced his support for extending the ban, even as his campaign sought to boost the Democratic presidential nominee s credentials as a gun owner and hunter. Republican congressional leaders say the ban was allowed to lapse because gun control advocates in the House and Senate did not have enough votes to extend it. They may be right.

The leaders and heroes of the Roman Empire are countless, but one leader stands out from all the rest. Augustus Caesar s contributions to Roman history helped make Rome the dominant empire we know of today. Augustus Caesar was without a question the greatest political leader in the history of the Roman Empire. As a young adolescent, Octavian demonstrated his leadership ability long before having thoughts of becoming the first emperor of Rome. Octavian could then concentrate his efforts on moving against Marc Antony, for total control of the Roman Empire. The Battle of Actium in 31 BC was arguably one of the most important naval battles in the history of the Roman Empire. The following year in Egypt, Octavian and his army again defeat Antony. Consequently, Antony and Cleopatra (Anotny s wife) commit suicide. With the victory at the Battle of Actium, Octavian was now sole ruler of Rome and all its provinces. Upon the defeat and death of Antony, Octavian proclaimed the restoration of the Republic of Rome. However, he had no intention of stepping down as leader. In 27 BC Octavian placed the republic at the disposal of the Senate and the Roman people. Octavian s position was now legitimized by the Senate s request that he command and lead Rome. He was given the military command, known as Imperium for ten years. This office included the administration of Roman provinces that required the presence of the army. The official name of Octavian became Imperator Caesar Augustus From that time would be known as Augustus, which means the Exalted . Augustus received the tribuncian power for life and assumed the role of protector of the Roman people. He also received the right to intervene in those provinces administered by the Senate. He then climactically proclaims his final intentions to definitively murder the Meadows and himself. This reference to earlier thoughts helps to justify Damon s actions by indicating advanced forethought and reflection prior to his upsetting actions. The Mower may be viewed as a twisted and corrupted version of this shepherd. A shepherd represents the linear ideas of development, wisdom, and nurture in a working environment and is often biblically idealized as a constant guiding force that provides the world with a direct and noble service (Anderson 134 36). A mower, while maintaining the essence of this occupation, represents ideas that have been altered to more fully incorporate the axioms of paganism. A mower is only occupationally active for short seasons each year, emphasizing an innate temporal isolation or cyclic nature in this character by definition (Anderson 134). Where a shepherd drives the constant development of life without any direct insinuation of death, the Mower brings about new life through tightly stacked cycles of murder (201 3). Each swing of his curved scythe slashes through blades of grass, creating life in the new potential for continued growth and the potential nourishment offered by hay while extinguishing the life contained in the severed shoots. The Mower destroys what once was by creating something new in cycles that exist outside of a shepherd s linear time. We can also see that the Mower is, in a biblical sense, fallen. Through the

Over the last several years phishing and email scams have increased tremendously, promising to enrich the recipient with just a couple clicks and some personal information. Phishingalways spikes with holiday shopping, celebrity scandals, weather disasters and big sporting events (Bond, 2011). Phishing scams generally use fear and expectations. It is almost unimaginable that there might be an Internet user with an email address that hasn t received an email promising large sums of money from a Nigerian Prince. In 2014, of the 140,000 FFL dealers in the U.S., only 10,429 were inspected (Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, 2015). This means roughly 7.5% of FFL dealers were inspected during the 2014 fiscal year. By law ATF can only inspect FFL dealers once a year, but it seems they aren t even capable of doing that. Dealers with expired licenses, hazardous store conditions, stolen firearms and a myriad of other issues and safety concerns go virtually undetected and continue to run their business. It is no surprise that the illegal firearms market continues to grow and that firearms dealers contribute heavily to this issue. In making sure FFL dealers receive their annual inspection, it would increase the chance of a violation becoming detected and therefore dealers possibly being more cautious and less likely to conduct illegal transactions. 9. Increase the amount of cameras in parking lots and inside firearms store. By increasing the number of cameras in parking lots and inside stores you are increasing formal surveillance of potential buyers. If dealers placed a camera in the store that had a sign stating the camera was monitored by the ATF or another federal agency, it could deter potential straw purchases by scaring potential buyers. Dealers could also bring customers to fill out paperwork in an area that has a camera with a motion sensor light, another possible scare tactic to make potential buyers second
  • 15. The United States Post Civil War The United States post Civil War era from 1875 to 1900 experienced massive economic and industrial growth, especially in the North. The rise of new machines, industries (railroad, oil, steel), and buildings contributed to a major upsurge in the prosperity of the American nation. In 1860, no American city had a population over one million; by 1890, three cities had passed the million mark. New York City became the second largest city in the world after London in 1900. The substantial growth of the U.S economically can be contributed to a group of wealthy capitalists that ran businesses/industries and stimulated economic growth. However, historians have argued over whether these capitalists were robber barons that were corrupt and took advantage of the American people or captains of industry that helped the U.S grow at unparalleled speeds. Wealthy capitalists such as Andrew Carnegie and John D. The major wealthy capitalists of the time Andrew Carnegie, John D. Rockefeller, J. Speeches are the most dreaded form of writing for me. When writing a speech I have a tendency to overthink and revise my speech several times, never getting it to be just perfect. Although speeches are a form of writing that I currently use and will use throughout my college career, I am hopeful that I will not have to use them after college. Emails and letters are the final form of writing that I use in my day to day and will continue to use throughout life. While emails and letters are a shorter form of writing, I find that if they are not composed correctly, they can be misconstrued. When composing these writings, as with most writings you need to watch the format, wording, capitalization, and punctuation. I find this to be the most frequently used form of writing that I currently use and will continue to

  • 38. Depictions of the Afterlife The afterlife as a residence for souls after death has long been a topic of discussion and debate. This idea intrigues many. As Christians we believe that heaven is a place where believers go where life there will be a continuation of their present life, while hell is a place of judgment and punishment where many experience severe treatment. Direct experience is the only way individuals can experience these concepts, but once we obtain the experience it cannot be shared. This ultimately makes us want to know more leading many to visualize the afterlife. Starting with the earliest Greek Epics, such as The Iliad, society has imagined an Underworld, a place beneath the Earth where souls go once the body dies. Our thoughts and expectations about such an idea have changed over time; the idea of the Underworld continues in many Greek and Latin poems and it still used today (Spiegel). The best descriptions of the afterlife are found in Dante s Divine Comedy. In his first book, The Inferno, Dante explores Hell, a place in which sinners dwell after they die. His account is mainly taken from Book VI of Virgils The Aeneid, which describes Aeneas s journey into the Underworld to visit his father. These two works, written many years apart share similar ideas about life after deathand it makes us consider the changes in society s thoughts over these times. There are obvious differences found between these two stories and they correlate with the different beliefs society has about the

Intelligence Correlations Between Brothers Decrease With Increasing Age Difference Topic Background/Introduction In this article, the researchers is the study how the age difference between brothers affect the correlation between their intelligence test scores. They describe how there has not been much research on the effect of age difference between siblings (specifically brothers) on intelligence. There have been many other studies that have shown that while both genes and differences in one s environment may create differences between people, familial similarities are caused mostly by shared genes (SSS. Studies using participants that were adopted show that intelligences seems to vary with age. For instance, the correlation between the intelligence test scores of young children who are not related is much higher than that of the same children during adolescence. Other studies, using twins, suggest that shared environmental effects are present in childhood and early adulthood, but are absent in late adulthood. The researchers mention that studying adopted children, who are usually brought into affluent and well functioning? Homes, show that they are not representative of the entire population. There are many more factors, when studying adopted siblings, and identical/fraternal twins that can lead to an overestimation or underestimation of the effects of either the shared environment or familial genetics. For example, in The Chronicles of Narnia, specifically The Silver Chair and The Last Battle, Jill and Eustace are foils for each other. Their personalities balance each other out which allows them to highlight each other s strengths and weaknesses. However, they aren t just foils for each other, though. In The Silver Chair, the two of them together serve as foils for the characternamed Puddleglum. They are eager to dive head first into their adventure while Puddleglum, with his pessimistic outlook, is always either... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He serves as a guide and a protector for the children. There are multiple occasions in which Puddleglum saves the children from almost certain death. The first instance that comes to mind is also in the giant city of Harfang. Had it not been for Puddleglum, the children would have likely gone into completely panic, been caught, and certainly been eaten. Instead, Puddleglum does a wonderful job of keeping the children calm for as long as possible and giving them the perfect time to make a break for it and escape. Once the company made was in Underland and the Queen returned to find them there, she attacked them at once and tried to put all of them under a spell. Puddleglum bravely lunged towards the Queen and put out the magic fire. He severely burned himself in this process and yet he continued to watch after the children. The Queen turned herself into a serpent and attacked Prince Rilian Eustace and Rilian himself, along with Puddleglum, despite his wounds, kill the Queen with their swords. In a way, Puddleglum is almost a foil for himself! He displays all the attributes of a heroic character while being perpetually distraught and pessimistic. These traits typically do not mix, yet Lewis does an outstanding job of making it work for this
  • 52. Outlawing The 8th Amendment The constitution says nothing pertaining to capital punishment, thus the supreme court left the decision up to individual states to decide what to do with their residents. Some states, such as Michigan, do not partake in the death penalty. Eighteen states have completely outlawed the act, and many more have not executed a person in over a decade. This permissible act is degrading to human dignity and violates the eighth amendment. This amendment states that the federal government is not allowed to impose excessive bail, excessive fines, or cruel and unusual punishment upon United States citizens, yet every state was given the power to execute its occupants if they are involved in a wrongdoing of sorts. The sentencing process is too significant

Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Brain tumor detection is a tedious job because of the complex structure of the brain. From the MR images, the information such as tumor location can be understood. It provides an easier way to diagnose the tumor and plan the surgical approach for its removal. Doctors do not have a method that can be used for brain tumor detection and standardization, which leads to varying conclusions between one doctor to another. There comes the requirement of an automated system for locating tumor in Magnetic Resonance Image (MRI). The existing classification methods have limitation in accuracy, exactness and require manual interaction. So, designing automated system using image segmentation techniques helps make the detection accurate and efficient. A new system that can be used as a second decision for the surgeons and radiologists is proposed. In this system, brain tumors have been segmented with the help of two methods that is Enhanced K Strange Points and K Means algorithms followed by Morphological Filtering. The Enhanced K Strange Points Clustering algorithm converged faster with less number of steps than the K Means Clustering algorithm. Segmentation of brain image is imperative in surgical planning and treatment planning in the field of medicine. In this work, we have proposed a computer aided system for brain MR image segmentation using Enhanced K Strange Points Clustering algorithms
  • 54. The Value Of How I Am Seen The Value of How I Am Seen Frequently traveling and uprooting what I have considered to be home has left my family as one of the only constants in my life. Through the great deal of experiences and challenges I have faced alongside my family, I have learned through both positive and negative means some of the things I truly value. The interactions between my sister and I in particular are predominantly amiable, but over some of the coarser periods of time in our relationship, our personal vendettas against one another have shown me that I valuemy public image above most things in life. It is for this reason when asked to give something of true value away, I have chosen to hand the keys of my kingdom to my sister, in the form of my Facebook email and password information. While this material may seem like an inconsequential offering to observers of different generations or walks of life, it is the nature and history of my relationship with my sister coupled with the significance this information holds to me that tells of the true sacrifice made in giving access to such a powerful tool. Before analyzing the degree to how much I valued what I gave my sister, it is important to understand what true value is. While value in terms of a currency or some means of exchange is seemingly one of the easier ways to determine something s worth, an item s history to the owner and the impact of its absence is a better determinate of its true value. I have found that in my case, given

Differences in slave laws in British North America and Colonial Brazil Slavery as it existed in colonial Brazil contained interesting points of comparison and contrast with the slave system existing in British North America. The slaves in both areas had been left with very little opportunity in which he could develop as a person. The degree to which the individual rightsof the slave were either protected or suppressed provides a clearer insight to the differences between North American and Brazilian slavery. The laws also differed greatly between the two areas and have been placed into three categories: term of servitude, police and disciplinary powers, and property and other civil rights. Point One: In both systems of slavery,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The law also made a more concerted attempt to protect the slave against mistreatment by his master. Mistreatment of a slave could lead both to the freedom of the slave and to the imprisoning of the master. Point Three: The slave in British North America could not own property and had absolutely no civil rights. The law clearly stated that he could neither own, inherit, nor will property, couldn t engage in buying or selling anything except at the pleasure of his master. In contrast, the slave in Brazil could own property, could engage in buying and selling, and was also guaranteed Sundays, holidays, and other times which to work for his own advancement. In short, the law implied that while the master could own a man s labor, he could not own the man as a person. In conclusion, it is not easy to make a comparison between the two slave systems. Brazilian slave masters often evaded the law and could be exceedingly brutal and British North American masters were often much more lenient than the law required. Conditions were usually more severe in Brazil and this may have worsened the actual material situation of the Brazilian slave. In North America the slave was treated like a thing and in Brazil there was some attempt to treat him as a man. This fact made a profound difference in the way the two systems affected the slave as an individual and in the way in which they impinged upon the development of his
